Family secrets? I am all in. Amelia seems to be a little bored with life. She’s a mom to two girls, married to a hot ex-firefighter who now owns a roofing business and he seems to be a real jerk. The kinda guy that makes Amelia feel like she’s not quite good enough. (He gripes about the dishes in the sink..hello??? Can you not do some stuff around the house?) Her you get sister, Ellie, is a paramedic and gets a call to a house where there have been gunshots. Well, the House happens to be her sister’s. Lots of awesome drama and secrets get spilled. A fast, quick read and one that I enjoyed.

Great thriller. I really liked the way the point of views the story was told from were interesting yet easy to follow. Sometimes it gets so confusing going between two different people. Another great book by Bleeker!

Thank you to the publisher and author for the ARC of this book which does not influence my review.

As a fan of the author's work I was thrilled to receive this book for review. This is a enthralling page turning thriller I could not put down ! The excitement builds from the beginning as Ellie is working. as a paramedic in her hometown. She had to return home to assist her sister in caring for their aging father. Ellie receives a call while on duty from her sisters house and arrives to find a terrible crime has occurred.

As the book progressed I gave up any hope of sleep. The suspense builds rapidly and a mystery around the crime has Ellie sure there is more to the story then her sister knows.

I loved this well crafted thriller that surprised me at every turn of the page. The character development is key to the story and the reader discovers they think they know the answers only to be pleasantly surprised. Its a nail biter that is enthralling from beginning to end.

I highly recommend this book for everyone that enjoys mystery and thriller reading. Well Done to the author .

Emily Bleeker's Working Fire takes readers into the lives of Amelia and her much younger sister, Ellie. Both have made sacrifices to care for their ailing father, but it's not enough to keep the past from catching up with them all.

Ellie, a paramedic who gave up medical school to come back home, gets a call that takes her rushing to her sister's home in the middle of the night. She finds that Amelia and her husband, Steve, have been shot in what looks like a home invasion. The police get involved and it seems that multiple people have been keeping secrets that are close to being exposed. Ellie, however, will not rest until the truth is out and she finds whoever hurt her sister.

This story is built on kept secrets and how we don't always know people as well as we might think, even those who are closest to us. Told in multiple perspectives taken from past and present, Working Fire takes readers into a deep web of mystery that quickly unravels. It rolls along at a steady pace that makes just enough room for all the drama and heartbreak that fills the pages. The characters are filled with lingering hopes for the future that make them all the more realistic.

With a mix of suspense and family conflict, Working Fire is perfect for fans of Kerry Lonsdale and Eliza Maxwell!

I honestly could tell by the writing of the first 2 chapters that it wouldn't be a good fit for our box and had to put it down. I may read it again in the future!

I loved the book blurb, there was so much suspense and mystery surrounding the sisters Ellie and Amelia. And the book was equally good for most parts. It did keep to the plot.
This is my first book by this author Emily Beeker and I loved the mystery which kept me turning the pages.
Ellie, who has come home to look after her father gets a call about her sister, Amelia getting shot and the story makes its twisted journey to get to the truth.
The narration is both from present day Ellie's and Amelia's point of view from a few days earlier. And the secrets continue to be unfolded till the grand finale. There are parts of it which I didn't like, especially at the end. But on the whole it was a light mystery and the book kept up its suspense. A whodunit of sorts.

Really loved this family drama, told in alternating chapters of the two sisters. Loved the characters, loved the book!

A wonderful way to spend a Saturday reading this book!
This was a story of secrets and families and what unfolds because of it. The characters were easy to like and I just kept turning the page to find out what was happening next. The author switches each chapter about a different character and I really liked that writing style.
I loved everything about this book. I cant wait to get the rest of Emilys books. She is my new favorite author!

Wow did this book have a jaw dropping ending! It came out of nowhere! I had my doubts but they were nothing like what really happened in this book.

I'm not going to be able to tell you a lot of specifics without including a spoiler. So I am just going to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Ellie and Amelia are two very likable characters and are sisters. Ellie has been away at college but comes back home to their small town when her father has a stroke. Now Ellie, having given up med school, is a paramedic. She couldn't pass the strenuous tests to be a fireman which include carrying a body, but she would have made a good one. Besides that, she helps take care of her father along with her sister, Amelia.

Amelia is married with two children to an ex-firefighter that now owns his own roofing company. The company is ran out of their house. Amelia is also a concert cellist, doing the odd wedding here and there. There's not a real symphony in their small town, so she takes smaller gigs when she can get them. She also helps out with her husband's company and, of course, runs the household.

The author did a great job with the characters and with the introduction of them and their lives. However, when the plot twists to that final turn, it was a crazy, out of left field turn. Jaw dropping.

A great read that I thoroughly enjoyed!

I received this ARC from netgalley.com in exchange for a review.

Paramedic Ellie receives a 911 dispatch that changes everything. The address is her sister’s house. Rushing to the scene, Ellie discovers that Amelia and her husband, Steve, have been shot in a home invasion.

I have to say I was frustrated with the ending but I loved how the story kept getting more and more convoluted. Who really was the "bad guy"? Written in two timelines, Ellie: current day and Amelia: a few weeks prior leading up to the shooting.

The conversation between characters was overly simplistic and felt unrealistic. Parts of the story was ok, but overall I felt let down by the writing.

2.25 stars

This was not a feel-good book and was disappointing after When I'm Gone. The main characters weren't likeable, especially Ellie whose constant preoccupation with her insecurities became tedious and were unrealistic in some instances. The first part of the book moved slowly but interest grew as the layers of intrigue were stripped away and the story unfolded. Several minor characters were interesting; dialogues were sometimes awkward and not what someone would naturally say under the circumstances.

I will start off by saying this book was quite hard for me to rate. One part of me wanted to give it 4 stars, the other wanted to give it 2, so I decided to rate it in the middle at 3/5.

This book makes you wonder what you would do in the same situation. You as the reader know everything that happens, but not all the characters find out what exactly happened. This really frustrated me because I am largely in fan of "the truth coming out in the end for all to hear". Also, Ellie's hidden secret at the end just made me angry. I was calling her an idiot the last 5 pages of this ebook. We don't want to give up the opinions we have of others, especially if they are good ones, but come ON Ellie.

I did love that this book had dual timelines and switched back and forth between Ellie and Amelia. I always love that component in a book, and it made this book more interesting for me.

Overall I still think this book will be worth the read for most people, and the mystery element was very appealing as I was reading. I wanted to get to the end to figure out what happened. I would definitely read more by this author.

Ellie thought she was leaving her home town forever and her ticket out was medical school. But sadly that didn't last long, her father had a stroke and she is forced to come back to Broadlands and help her sister Amelia take care of their father. Working as an EMT her world changes in a instant....the 911 dispatcher sends her to Ameila's house. Ellis walks into what looks like a home invasion gone wrong and the victims are her sister and brother in law. As Amelia is clinging to life Ellie uncovers a dark dark dark family secret!!!!!
This book was fasted paced and kept my attention! Emily Bleeker writes a unique tale with Working Fire! I look forward to reading more from Emily!

I really enjoyed this book! Haven't read any of Emily Bleeker's other books but now I will check them out! Great story about two sisters who grew up and live in a small town. Ellie is a paramedic and she receives a call to her sister's house where her sister, Amelia and her brother-in-law both severely hurt. The unfolding story of the sisters' has it all: tragedy, suspense, family relationships and secrets which make for a great book. Held my interest until the ending which I did not expect. Don't want to spoil the mystery. Definitely worth reading! Thanks Netgalley!!!

3.5 stars!!!
Emily Bleeker is a new author for me so I was beyond excited to read her work. It turned out to be a good read filled suspense, and full of twists and turns. At times, the story did seem to drag a little even though there was always something going on. The pace of the story was the only thing stopping me from giving this story 5 stars. When it comes to this book few people are who they seem to be and money is the root of all evil. Everything is wrapped up nicely and comes full circle. If readers are looking for a suspense filled read this book will not disappoint. I'm glad I was given the opportunity to read it.

This is the first novel that I've read from Emily Bleeker and I must say I enjoyed it so much. This novel is told in third person alternating between two sisters, Ellie and Amelia. The book opens with Ellie working a shift as an EMT when her and her partner receive a call for a potential shooting. To Ellie's horror the address is her sister's house. The next chapter continues with Amelia six weeks earlier. Amelia is struggling to manage her many responsibilities with her family, her ailing father and work. This character-driven novel continues in this fashion as the reader is slowly given details through Amelia leading up to the shooting and with Ellie after the shooting as she struggles to make sense of this tragedy. This book continued to be suspenseful as it delved into this family's secrets. This was definitely an entertaining read that still able to surprise me along the way
