I like the 7 Fs but a bit heavy on the personal stories and anecdotes and found it to be a bit preachy/condescending/ know-it-all-ish. I supposed depending on where you are in life it could provide inspiration.
A self-help book with a 1970's vibe. Filled with personal stories of every difficult situation you may encounter as a woman with resolution and advice to get you there. It seems to reiterate the problems women go through no matter what decade you live in. Definitely helpful even if it does seem a little dated. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As women today continue to stress themselves out over trying to achieve the perfect work-life balance, finally there is Oola for Women providing a lifeline of hope and pathway for every woman to achieve One Big Life of OOLA!
Thank you HCI Books and Netgalley for An ARC in return for my honest review.
This was an enjoyable, easy to read book to inspire 7 different parts of my life. I look forward to reading more from this series in the future.
Thank you HCI for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was a great book with easy to follow steps on what to improve in your life to find balance. I enjoyed the personal stories that were included, some being very relatable to my own life. The 7 F’s were all feasible areas for life improvement and having them laid out like they were made it u derstandable. I enjoyed this book. For someone that is not religious most of the book made sense, I just ended up skipping over the section on God. Alternatively this section could have been more general with alternative faiths being represented. Overall a great read with valuable lessons and tools to improve ones life.
This book was a fun read an very helpful, encouraging, and inspiring. If possible I would give it more than 5 stars!
I would like to thank the publisher, HCI Books, and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this beautiful and practical book.
I heard the Oola concept and OolaPalooza events before, but had no idea what is was about. I am so happy that I got the opportunity to read this book and learn about it. I guess that the concepts in this book that are geared toward us being our best self and reaching balance on our lives is not new, but this presentation is, cool and very easy to understand and follow.
This book is geared towards women and it describes the importance of focusing on the seven areas to focus on, also referred to as the 7F’s. The seven F’s are: Fitness, Finance, Family, Field (career), Faith, Friends and Fun.
The book also addresses issues such as OolaBlockers, which are habits, beliefs and attitudes that can hold us back and OolaAccelerators that can propel us forward. OolaBlockers such as fear, guilt, and anger, jealousy are described, illustrated anecdotes and strategies to overcome are also given.
Some of the OolaAccelerators are daily practice of gratitude, love, discipline, Integrity, passion, humility and wisdom.
The importance of each F is briefly explained and then further illustrated with personal anecdotes that are very inspiring. Some may say that it is heavy on the personal anecdotes, but I think that, that is the strength of this book. The addition of the personal anecdotes make it just not as this is important and try to do this, but rather gives the reader a situation that they can relate to and see that there is light at the end of the tunnel if they do the work and that they are able to do it and persevere.
This book is very easy to read and I highly recommend it!
I regret not reading the first Oola book before this one, but the concept was easy to understand. I feel this book would be very empowering for some women, and others will find it helpful.
Love this book! I'm working on the steps now and loved it so much, I bought it in print...and bought the original Oola Find Balance for my husband. Very readable and I like that though they are Christians, and talk about God a lot...they also make it a point to say, "You be you."
Oola for Women is an interesting take on the typical self help book. It has 7 principles, which I feel like is a solid amount- not too much, not too little. I found great insight and information in 6 of the 7 sections. I especially learned a lot about my own finances while going through the Finance section. I found the Faith section the least helpful, buy can see the merit it in for people of Faith.
I liked that the book had personal stories throughout to connect it to the real world... hearing Oola used in practice was refreshing.
Overall, a good book for anyone looking for a little guidance or push in a healthy direction.
Be prepared to be inspired to live your best life! Oola for Women walks you through the 7 F's that will help you transform your life. I was a little worried that I would be lost in this book because I hadn't read their first book. That is definitely not the case. They lay out all the Oola concepts and explain how to live them with lots of inspiring stories mixed in.
"Oola means living life firing on all cylinders -- joyful, wholehearted, and ready to take advantage whenever good times and opportunity appear."
"Transform the juggling act you do every day into a dream lifestyle of simplicity, tranquility, abundance, and opportunity. That's what 'living Oola' means -- and for you, it's not only an attainable goal, but a well deserved reward."
The seven F's of Oola: Fitness, Finance, Family, Field, Faith, Friends, and Fun
The book walks through each of the seven F's giving a thorough description, real-life stories and examples of how you can live your best life in each area.
"From eliminating fear to learning how to erase guilt, anger, shame, and even overcoming laziness -- you'll discover how to banish self-sabotage and focus on your future. Once you're past these blocks, it's time to change the way you roll -- with accelerators like gratitude, love, discipline, passion, and wisdom."
Oola is described as a state of awesomeness. Living the Oola lifestyle means your life hums around you. I loved the section that talks about keeping a gratitude journal. They encourage you to keep a journal near your bed and to write down all the things you are grateful from that day before you go to sleep. What a great way to really reflect on the abundance of good in your day-to-day life! I will definitely be starting a gratitude journal. It's so easy to focus on the negative and let the good slip through the cracks.
"If life has you feeling battered but hopeful, realize that where you are right now is simply where you are, not who you are. You are designed for greatness. Your challenges don't define you. It's just a season you're going through."
The book concludes with a worksheet (or you can go online to answer the questions, which I highly recommend) that helps you figure out which areas of life could use a little more Oola and which areas are humming along. You get a score and can see on the chart where you are at in each of the 7 F's. You can come back and take this quiz anytime to see if your score has changed and/or if your 7 F's have shifted. You may increase a score in one area and find in that stage of life you have a new area that needs some balance.
This book is a quick read that is totally worth it. I found it inspiring and motivating! I've missed the Oola events in my area for this year, but I will definitely be checking their Facebook Events page to see when they are in my area next. I think a live event with them would be life altering.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is filled with inspiring stories of women who have overcome dire circumstances and who are well on their way to living their dreams and being successful.
There is a lot of great information, but it didn't feel "pushy" or "preachy".
5 stars!
The Oola Guys have written an excellent book focused on helping women find balance in the 7 F's in their lives. There were some very practical solutions, as well as inspirational stories and clear language. Although a little heavy in the personal anecdotes, I would definitely recommend this book to any woman who feels out of balance in her life, and needs some advice about how to become more fulfilled.
