A big thank you to Loveswept and NetGalley for the ARC for my honest review.
First time reading this author. I liked the idea but didn't feel the chemistry between the characters Bastian/Julia. I found the premise of hiding important facts in a relationship awkward-if he hides that what else is he hiding? Sexual harassment/bullying is not taken lightly today yet she never reported it. I found that odd as well. It was a quick read but I didn't connect with the characters. Courage one moment, spineless the next.
3 stars- The Cinderella/Prince is the idea... with today being the time and the wallet being the left behind. The idea had merit... but all in all it was just ok..
I found this to be a quick, fun, entertaining read. Julia is an adorably hot mess, and it's fun to watch her put the sexy-as-hell rich guy in his place. Their struggles with their respective issues realistically shape who they are, and I was holding my breath while hoping for their HEA. Despite the deep underlying struggles with self-esteem and a debilitating illness, this book was light and filled with hope. I laughed out loud several times. I felt like the resolution came a little too easily, but it was probably a spot-on reaction for someone who is head over heels.
I loved this book & could not put it down! If you're looking for a fun romantic comedy, this book is for you. Reading from Julia's & Bastion's points of view added a lot of depth to the characters. I especially love how it starts with Julia noticing Bastion at her work & her & her best friend /co-worker nicknaming him Big Sexy. I highly recommend getting this book & reading about Julia & Bastion.
I enjoyed this one. There wasn't anything particularly earth shattering about it but I found it to be well-written and nicely paced. Both main characters were fairly likable. The heroine was a little naive, and annoying at times, but not enough for it to bother me. Bastian, I really liked. There wasn't any OW/OM drama and not much angst. The ending was cute, but I would have liked to have seen a more into the future look at the couple.
All in all, it was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
Very good. I like the angle that Bastien isn't perfect, he has a fatal flaw right from the beginning.
I have mixed feelings on this one. If I keep in mind it's a light hearted, fun, erotic read then it wasn't too bad. It had some very funny times throughout and the sexy times were steamy and hot. However I disliked the fact that I don't think the author did enough research on Lupus to write a believable character affected by this disorder. In addition I never really felt the connection between Sabastian and Julia. For me this one was just an ok read.
I'd have to give this one 3.5 stars. It was a very quick read and predictable, but I still enjoyed it. Unfortunately, there wasn't a whole lot of romance going on, which was a bit disappointing. It started out great and I was excited to continue reading, but the middle was just blah and really only about sex. The ending was great though, but again, predictable.
Julia is the sample girl at a local grocery store and she's had her eye on the sexy guy who is always in the vitamin aisle. He seems oblivious to her though, so she just continues to lust for him at a distance. One day though, he finally approaches her sample table, asks for a sample and she has to go in the back to get more. When she returns, he's passed out on the floor. She checks his wallet for ID, calls 911 and keeps the wallet so that someone else doesn't steal all the money out of it. Of course, she tracks him down and returns the wallet.
Bastian Rich runs his family's investment firm and he thinks the sample girl is sexy, but he keeps his distance. He's not the playboy he once was, but his illness keeps him from commitment. Once Julia returns his wallet though, he decides to go out with her.
I loved the banter between these two. Julia was cute, quirky, smart and had sass - not to mention she knew how to fix motorcycles...not at all who you'd think Bastian would be attracted to. Bastian was hot and sexy and a bit of the jealous type, but he let his illness cloud his judgement and really didn't give Julia the chance she deserved.
There wasn't much romance and I didn't really feel the love between these two. Yes, they had chemistry, but they spent very little time with one another in person and rather had a lot of text conversations for a while since they were both so busy (or not speaking to each other). I would have loved to see how their relationship actually developed into love instead of just getting more sex scenes thrown in there.
Oh and I loved Kevin :-)
I expected to love this book. It's just the type I love to read, but it was missing something. A lack of emotion, mostly. I posted a review on Goodreads.
I really enjoyed my first read by Virna DePaul. This book was sweet, funny & sad. The characters were very well written with strong back bones & major chemistry. The storyline was sweet & intense with the illness that Bastian suffered from & the intense desire that he felt for Julia. It was funny with the sassy, take no prisoners way Julia had in handling Bastian. It was sad when Bastian couldn't get past his feelings concerning his illness & Julia. This book had me hooked & I couldn't put it down until I finished it(at 4:30 in the morning). I definitely recommend this book & look forward to reading more by 'this author.
Julia manages the sample table at a grocery store, and lusts after Bastian, the hot sexy guy who frequents the grocery shop.
Sebastian finds the sample girl hot, and when he walks up to her to talk to her, he faints right there in the grocery store.
When Sebastian knows the reason he fainted, he decided to stay away from Julia. But when she comes into his office to return his wallet she had taken to give info to the 911 operator, and tells him off, he can't stay away.
Mr Rich is a quick, light, hot, romantic read. Julia vivid imagination had me in splits. I enjoyed the way they were stumbling trying to make their relation work amid their insecurities. A cute read that is perfect to curl up with.
I enjoyed this book and the passion between the two main characters, but it felt like there was too much happening too fast between them. I wanted to be more invested in their plot lines but I felt like there wasn't truly much else besides the physical. With that being said, it was a cute read and definitely steamy.
Mr. Rich is one of those books that make you sigh while reading it. With characters that you can relate to and a plotline that will make you laugh and cry, Mr. Rich is the perfect book to read if you are laying out by the pool or on the beach. Just make sure that you don’t have nosey people reading over your shoulder because the sex scenes are definitely not PG.
Julia had to be one of my favorite characters in the last 10 books that I have read. She was just a regular 20 something working at a dead-end job, trying to make ends meet and reflecting on her past mistakes. She was snarky and couldn’t keep her mouth shut. I loved her. If she was real, she totally would have been my BFF. I did think that her past, while sucky, did shape her. It made her cautious about trusting people and she refused to let anyone close. I died laughing when she found the pictures of him on the Internet and got yelled at by the customer.
Bastian is hands down one of my favorite male characters in the last 10 books that I have read. I just wish that he had been a little more open about his battle with lupus with Julia. He definitely lived up to his nickname “Big Sexy” in all ways…wink wink.
The romance between Bastian and Julia was one of the sweetest that I have read. Their feelings for each other was very tangible while reading it. What I didn’t understand is why there had to be a love triangle between Bastian, Julia, and Ryland. It added drama that I thought really wasn’t needed in the book. Julia’s personal drama, in my opinion, was more than enough.
The sex scenes between Bastian and Julia were insanely hot. While I was reading the first scene, I basically had the same thought as Julia when she saw Bastian’s package “Will it fit”….lol. Well, not only did it fit but it definitely fit well. LOL.
The ending was sweet. I think I cried when Bastian tracked Julia down (read the book to find out why). The epilogue really made me cry. Talk about romantic!!
How many stars will I give Mr. Rich: 4
Why: Likable characters, a romance that every girl wants and hot sex
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Language and sex
**I chose to leave this review after reading an advance reader copy**
I can always appreciate when the wealthy guy falls for the commoner. Julia works for a grocery store after leaving college unexpectedly. Bastian slowly falls for her but his secret puts a wedge between them. Despite the enormous amount of sex they have there really was a pleasantly sweet romance out of the sheets. Julia was a likable character but slightly self centered. Bastian was the same way but I felt he had reasons. I have been a big fan of DePaul and will always read her books, however this was very fluffy and not my favorite. I received a copy from Netgalley and wrote this review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed this book, it was different and it had me hooked from the first page.
Julia works in the local grocery store handing out samples, it's a job going nowhere but it pays the bills. Bastian has the hots for girl handing out the samples and the day he decides to make his move turns in to a nightmare when he passes out and falls at her feet, after calling 911 Julia is asked to go through his pockets to give the operator information on the mysterious man, things happen so quickly before she knows it he is whisked away by ambulance and she is left holding a wallet full of cash. What follows is a high speed taxi chase after the ambulance with some seriously funny comments from both Julia and the taxi driver. Will Julia get the wallet back to its hot owner and what will Bastian think of the girl he has admired from afar when she shows her true sassy personality.......
This book has just the right mix of secrets, drama and humour and did I mention it's hot !!!!
Looking forward to more from this author
"Mr. Rich" is written by Virna DePaul, and features Bastian Rich and Julia Rominger. I enjoyed this story Julia has an average job and her character quickly drew me in. However Bastian was a different story he grew on me as the story progressed (no spoilers here). This is a standalone short, sexy read that I would recommend if you are looking for something quick to curl up with.
I wouldn't consider this a Cinderalla story in any sense, but it was still a good read. I enjoyed the humor and the characters. Giving the story in duel points of view was great, and I always love getting both sides of the story. But I'm not completely sure I'm getting them falling in love because a lot of the book seemed more like lust to me than anything. Bastian and Julia really don't have a lot in common, but they don't make a bad couple. Bastian is a very well off financial advisor, and Julia is just a sample girl at a grocery store. But it's there they meet and soon can't stop thinking of the other. Because Bastian is sick there are some parts of contention because he doesn't want Julia to find out and instead she makes assumptions on why he disappears. Every time they fight, it gets worked out though with Bastian even being a man and actually apologizing to her. Until the end. They have a harsh break up and a few months apart before Bastian can't take it anymore and goes to get her back. Needless to say, it's a happy ending.
I’ve enjoyed some of Virna DePaul’s stories (especially “Deadly Charade”), but this one was not one of my favorites. I liked the characters, Bastian and Julia are nice people, but whilst reading this story I often felt that they were too immature, even puerile - I’m not sure whether because they were immature as people or undeveloped as fictional characters.
However, the story is cute with its take on the wounded hero, affected by a not very often dramatized condition. I also appreciated the kindness and tenderness between the main characters.
On the negative side, for me, anyway, was the usually annoying alternating first person POV with each character describing his/her sometimes trivial actions and movements, thoughts and feelings – but I don’t care and I don’t want to know what they do, think, feel or how they have sex with so many details. I fact, I would have liked to have seen more character development and less sex scenes. But I guess this is common in Young Adult romance.
I also thought that the Bastian’s justification for breaking up with Julia was so clichéd… I was expecting more originality.
I enjoyed this book a lot! A unique meeting brought Julia and Bastian together and they had a few ups and downs. Fun and sexy!
