Definitely not my usual genre. Set in Columbia, drug wars, a fictitious story which could easily be real. Luzma is a likeable lead character and the book is well written. There are no heroes in this book but I would recommend it to anyone interested in this topic. Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads.

This was a very realistic portrayal of drug-related violence and abuse in Colombia, a cause that needs greater light shed on it. It was realistic to the point that I could feel the helplessness of the characters who were living in a state of constant fear and paranoia. The author did a great job of highlighting the different forces at work in a drug-ridden state, and captures the utter desperation and rage of someone who is forced to live and work under such circumstances. Though the writing wasn't magical by any means, there was an easy flow to the work and the suspense and tension remained constant.
