I picked up Mr. Big mainly for the cover model. He’s got what I call “business abs.” By that I mean the phenomena of the male lead of a workplace based contemporary romance always having a ripped set of abs regardless of the fact that he spends countless hours at a desk and is rarely if ever seen working out. It’s a bit of contemporary romance magic that never falters. So when I saw this cover, I thought I was in for a book of awesome smutty delights. However, this was not the case. Well, there was smut (obviously) but Mr. Big wasn’t what I would call “delightful.” I’ll explain… I DON'T CARE!
The reason it took me so long to finally finish Mr. Big was that I had to force myself to keep reading. I was really hoping to find something engaging in here but I just couldn’t connect to the story or the characters. I really wanted to give a shit but I just couldn’t. The story wasn’t particularly unique and the characters didn’t feel like real people. I know Delancey Stewart tried really hard to develop the characters but I just didn’t connect to them whatsoever. In fact, I don’t even particularly like them. I can’t put my finger on exactly what’s wrong with the characters. They just had this air of artificiality about them.
Furthermore, both Oliver and Holland are the dumbest characters. All Holland does is complain and obsess about what other people think of her. Oliver is and asshole and a coward. They’re both kind of lousy characters and so, in that respect, they’re probably perfect for each other. I don’t want to be super spoiler-y but in their second (yes SECOND) inevitable breakup Oliver is a massive piece of shit. I could not fathom how Holland would just take him back immediately. At the very least he should have to work incredibly hard to regain her trust.I get it… they love each other and at the end of the day they desperately want to be together. However, it doesn’t change the fact that Oliver is a piece of shit and doesn’t deserve immediate forgiveness. It made me completely not respect Holland for taking him back so easily. I think the story could have used some retooling. I feel like if Oliver could have come to his senses earlier and then had to work for forgiveness I would have wanted to root for them more. As it is, I didn’t feel like there were satisfactory consequences for his actions.
In the end, Mr. Big was fairly mediocre. It had its moments, but overall pretty forgettable. This just wasn’t the book for me. I could see that Delancey Stewart tried very hard and the writing itself wasn’t bad. I just didn’t care about these characters and their story. I wanted to but I just couldn’t. However, that cover model is really something spectacular! At least the book still has that going for it.
Oliver’s world was rocked after the death of parents upon learning some shocking information. He reacts poorly, isolating and not caring about his career. Until h meets Holland, a motivated woman who challenges him and doesn’t know who he really is. These two pair up to save their company, and the sparks fly. Cute story. Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a bit of a slow starter for me. In the beginning, I really disliked the hero and was starting to think about not continuing this book. Then, he ran into the heroine and things started to get interesting. I finally started to get pulled into the story. The sexual chemistry between these two is quite strong and leads to some hot sex scenes. These two help each other and find love with one another. There are a few hurdles thrown in there that cause some problems, but they eventually get it right and get their HEA. This was just an okay read for me. They both had some bad moments, him more then her, where I wanted to shake them. They eventually got it right in the end though.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The story was a little far-fetched for my taste, but it was a so-so read. I could've done without the accidental pregnancy. That's straight out of an 80"s Harlequin book.
Loved this book. I like how the story went back and forth between Holland and Oliver and you git to experience feelings from both sides. Can't wait to read more by this author.
I really wanted to love this book, but unfortunately, the blurb was probably the best part. The book started out great (or the prologue did) - it reminded me a lot of Emma Chase. I was excited to continue reading since I love Emma Chase and her romantic comedies with a side of drama. Unfortunately, the book started slow, the hero/heroine both annoyed me by the end and I really didn't feel the love.
Holland graduated 2nd in her class, is incredibly smart and has a list of her life goals that control her life. First on that list, moving up in ranks Cody Tech. She has this great idea, but is stuck working in sales (since apparently the company has something against women...), so she works after hours trying to get a leg up on that promotion. She's in line at the company coffee shop one day when this arrogant jerk jumps in front of everyone in line. She's having none of that and proceeds to tell this guy off. Little does she know at the time that the guy is Oliver, CEO of Cody Tech.
Oliver has been away from the company for nearly a year. He receives some bad news at the beginning of the book that takes him away from his surfing in South Africa and back to the office. Only he goes a little crazy, is probably clinically depressed, hates the world and spends months away from the company he's supposed to be running. He's let himself go, so he pretty much looks like a homeless guy. This is why Holland doesn't recognize him all those weeks after they meet in the coffee shop.
Holland is working on this project of hers, but she needs a developer to help her iron out the technical aspects before she pitches it to the MLB. Oliver volunteers to help, but again, keeps his identity a secret. The jerk of a guy turns out to be kind of charming, but also a broken individual. But there's no denying the lust Holland has for him. Eventually they start something up but again, he doesn't tell her who he is. Once he does, she gets mad, thinks she gets the promotion just because she's 'sleeping with the boss' and ends things with him eventually.
Honestly, the on again-off again thing was a bit annoying in this book. They love each other, but not enough to give the other a chance. This continues for so long and then she finds out something and he accuses her of lying and leaves her. When he does this, he loses any and all respect I had for him and he couldn't redeem himself in my eyes after 7 months of the cold shoulder and lack of support. His giraffe gesture was probably the one thing that I loved about him since it was so thoughtful - it actually made me teary. I would have never let Oliver off the hook that easily after what he did (or didn't do).
And Holland was equally as annoying with her 'I have a plan and have to follow that plan exactly or it doesn't count' take on life. Life happens and it's not always as planned, so just go with it and get over yourself already!
I don't think I've ever read a book where I disliked both the hero and heroine, so this was just disappointing. They get their HEA, but I still didn't see how they could love each other when they didn't give themselves time to even work on their relationship.
I wish I could rate it higher, but unfortunately the incredibly slow pace and immature behavior of the characters just left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Spicy contemporary romance about a CEO and an underling, but their lives and this story is unique. The plot revolving around sports statistical equipment and its technology is intriguing, as well as the romance that blooms between these two characters. There are certainly a couple of times when I said" ok, added drama for no reason", but for the most part, this one is better than I expected from the title and description.
I am an avid reader and it is my escape from everyday's troubles, so I really hate it when I don't make a connection with a book, especially one I got through NetGalley in exchange for a review. I pick books that sound like an interesting story and usually I can tell right away if it will be a good read or not, and with this book I struggled. Now glancing at other reviews I noticed that I am in the minority, but we all have different tastes and expectations from the books we pick. Despite the fact that I was not crazy about the cover in retrospect it really made no sense, our hero is blond and there was very little "romance" going on besides the main characters finding each other hot etc. Now sex scenes are not vital to make a good read but it needs to have something to draw me in and this book just did not do it, it was predictable and I just never cared about the characters enough, I found myself skipping ahead, never a good sign. Very disappointing read for me.
DNF...although the writing was well done, the story was too cheesy for me to finish.
3 ok stars- sometimes things work... and sometimes they don't as you wish. This had another fall for boss/CEO and he wasn't too nice and she had to work for him...The chemistry seemed off for me.
Oliver is proof that being rich doesn't make you happy. He's lost his family and his ability to trust. He is numb to life until he meets Holland. Holland knows it's a man's world but she has a plan to make her way to the top. How these two get through to each other and come out the other side better people makes this story enjoyable. It's a hard fight but worth it when you meet the right person.
There is nothing more emotionally satisfying than a book that dissects a relationship and exposes the characters true self.
I loved reading this story of a man on the brink of a break down and whose world will be turned upside down. Oliver Cody is sexy, smart and struggling with news after a tragic loss. Holland will impact his life and show him that things aren't always as they seem.
It's great to plan but sometimes it's the unplanned events that matter the most and change our lives for the better!
Don't miss this must read!

This was the first time I have read a Delancey Stewart novel and it will not be the last. I really enjoyed this book and it was a good story, had great characters and I enjoyed the overall feel of the book.
Oliver Cody has everything he could ever want - the job, the money, the close relationship with his parents and everything seems to be going in the right direction until it suddenly isn't. Oliver receives the worst news of his life and it throws everything into a tailspin, including everything Ollie always thought he knew about himself.
Holland O'Dell has always wanted to succeed in business and graduating near the top of her class, she hoped to get the job she deserved, but gender lines proved that would not be as easy as she had hoped. She decided to take a job just to get her foot in the door and then she'll prove why she should have the job that she originally applied for and didn't get.
When Holland begins to work on the project that could propel her work-life forward, she ends up meeting a guy who is willing to help her, but she's not sure that she should trust him. As they get to know one another, they see that they are very compatible, both with the work she's doing and also in a romantic sense, but will secrets that Ollie is keeping derail both her aspirations for her job and their romance before it really gets off the ground?
I enjoyed this book for so many reasons, one of which was because it explored the idea of equality in the workplace and that is so important these days. Regardless of gender, if you are capable of doing the job, you should have that opportunity. This book showed that, but also showed that you can have the other things outside of the office too. And, just because you think your life is the way it should be, things happen and people come into your life exactly when they are supposed to. I look forward to reading another Delancey Stewart book soon!
Now this book is very hard to review. It was super cute once you got into it but the start was very slow. I wanted to put it down many times but knew I had to finish the book. Once I have 1/3 of the way in the book started to pick up. The character's are great, the story has so much potential and there is angst. I would still recommend reading it but you just need to bear with it.
I was pretty stoked to read Mr. Big when I read the synopsis on Random House’s NetGalley page. I am a sucker for a romance that has a good plotline, a conflicted hero, and a strong heroine. I really thought that I was getting that when I started reading Mr. Big. But, I knew something was off after I read the first chapter.
Oliver rubbed me the wrong way. He decided, before the book began, that he needed a break from a company that he founded. That he was tired of being the CEO. So, he took off on a 6-month vacation. Then he gets a phone call that his parents were killed in a car accident and he found out something that turned his world upside down. I was alright with the book up to that point. It was how he dealt with that news turned me from him. The way he acted (not the way he felt because I could 100% see where he was coming from) was the biggest turn-off. It killed the rest of the book for me. Nothing like reading a scene where a grown man is throwing a temper tantrum by throwing potted plants around. I actually sympathized with the plants.
On the other hand, I really liked Holland. She was feisty and she was not afraid to stand up for herself. The scene in the café, when Oliver decided to cut ahead of everyone in line, perfectly illustrates my point. She went over and gave him a piece of her mind…which is what he needed. I also agreed with her views on women in the workplace. She also heard her biological clock ticking and as a joke, her sister (well foster-sister) brought over a few sperm bank. Let’s just say that her sister’s joke kind of bit Holland in the but during a crucial point in the book.
The romance between Holland and Oliver didn’t really do it for me. Maybe it was because of how I felt about Oliver (see above paragraph). The relationship seemed forced and I didn’t feel that there was any chemistry between them. The sex, while hot, didn’t do anything for me. I couldn’t get into it. Again, my feelings for Oliver were the reason I couldn’t get into it and usually sex scenes are my favorite scenes in these books.
Now, I was surprised by what happened later in the book. There were hints leading up to what happened but it was still a surprise. As was Oliver’s reaction to it. Which again, went in line with his idiot ness. Honestly, I didn’t believe it when he had a change of heart months later.
I am going to complain about the cover for a minute. It had nothing to do with the book. Oliver was blonde haired while the male model has brown hair. It does drive me little nuts when the covers do not have anything to do with the books.
How many stars will I give Mr. Big: 2
Why: A very unlikable hero, a likable heroine and an ok plotline
Will I reread: No (but I will read other books by the same author)
Will I recommend to family and friends: No (but I will recommend books from the author)
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex, language, violence

My first read from this author and I very much enjoyed it. Engaging characters, perfectly flowing storyline and lots of tension to keep the reader hooked. I'd advise to look past the cover and even the blurb as neither do justice to how deep this story actually goes. This isn't the light hearted read I expected to get.
LOVED this book! I love how Holland, despite a very rough start in life, had a plan and steps to achieve it. She's burning the midnight oil working on step one of her plan when she sees an arrogant jerk, Oliver, be rude to her co-workers. Oliver, however, is still reeling from the death of his parents and the secret their death exposed.
As Holland and Oliver continue to encounter each other, they build a relationship built on a glaring omission so significant that it feels like a lie. Throughout the novel, Holland and Oliver continue to have a push-pull relationship as one challenge after another spins their world around.
I felt connected to the characters and invested in their story. This book grabbed my attention from the first page and kept it until the very last page - - so much so that I was sorry when it ended.
This is a must read for fans of the genre. I've added the author to my must read authors' list.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. I have to say like the others the blurb drew me in. But this book was absolutely and unequivocally boring! I didn't understand Oliver's anger at being adopted. It's bad enough he had everything handed to him on a silver platter. And he bails because he doesn't know what to do with himself. But when he is called back home and he learns the truth, which the reader doesn't learn until many chapters in, he gets utterly stupid. I kept waiting for the pace to pick up, but with each page turn, it got worse. Holland was a pain in the butt too. Nothing likable about either of them.
This a gusty first time read by this author was wonderfully written & so full of emotions. The secrets that unexpected deaths bring turns Oliver's life upside down. Already on the edge of not knowing what he wanted from life he's crushed by a secret his parents held, until he meets Holland. She's got her life planned out ahead of her but it's taking longer than she thought it would. When she meets Oliver she's shocked how fast her dreams are coming true, but secrets get in the way & ruin not only a fledgling relationship but the memories of a lifetime. The up & down emotions of this story will keep you on the edge of your seat. Definitely recommend.
Before I start my review, let me just say, please don’t let the cover or even the title of the book give you any indication of what the contents of the book are. Because I know this looks like some giant sexy book, but I swear there is more to it!
With that being said, let me just say that this book was surprisingly delightful. Mr. Big is about a CEO who lost his parents and with that his identity. It’s not until he meets fierce, plan-everything, Holland that he actually starts to get his life back together.
What I loved about this book was how much both our characters battled with their own worth from how they were raised and who their parents or family was. This wasn’t a whirlwind romance between a CEO and a woman out to prove herself—okay, it was, but that wasn’t the entire premise of the story. It had depth in a way that hit familial issues as well as what you do when you find out you are into your boss.
Oliver/Hale was seriously a huge dick. It wasn’t something that went away either. There are times that he is a shining example of what some women might dream in a man. But oh my gosh, sometimes he really is a self-centered ass hole. He really was a man who acted like the world revolved around him, and sadly when he wanted to do something for Holland, I almost felt like he was doing something for Holland almost as a self-gratification to be feel like, I did this, I put that smile on her face, even if it wasn’t explicitly said in the text. It was honestly, just the vibe I got.
It was sort of hard not to root for Holland. Here was this selfless, hardworking, undervalued woman taking the bull by the horns. She had a plan and she was going to make it happen. There were times when I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her yelling, “of course you got here on your own merit!” But alas, she is a woman working in a big business that favored men.
This book was delivered everything I expect out of a good chick-lit novel. A story about a girl getting her life together, no matter how hard the world batted against her. A steamy romance that wasn’t a huge factor to change it from chick-lit to erotica. A gripping moment that has your heart aching right along with our protagonist. It’s there, it’s the whole package. It wasn’t the best I ever read, but it was most certainly entertaining and moving.
