Second chance at love
New firefighter captain is in Glacier Creek. Former army ranger Sam Gaskill is in Glacier Creek to start a new job and start a new life after losing a wife. He is ready to drop off his late wife’s horse at a ranch she he meets feisty, smart mouth Lauren Keenan. He is attracted to her right away but his failed marriage still lingers in his mind. He just wants to start fresh without any complications.
Lurel can’t believe she is talking so brash to new comer Sam. She doesn’t behave this way with anyone but he brings out on her. She is interested but she has not alone, she has a son to worry about.
Sam’s horse is in Laurel’s ranch and she had to train the horse so it will make to the competition which was his late wife’s dream. They kept running into each other and sparks are flying.
Nothing comes easy for both. Laurel need to figure out if Sam is right for her and Sam is afraid to start a new relationship since he failed one before.
Amidst of their relationship, they are facing a wild fire that could cost both more than their relationship...
I did enjoy reading. All the characters were great and I can’t wait to read about all the other firefighters.
.We have Sam and Laurel, to very stubborn people, who are attracted to each other and not sure if they are willing to put their hearts on the line again. I always love stories of firefighters, and military men, so right there it had one me over, I loved the rest of the guys, it was cute story, and kept me fairly interest, new series, hopefully will keep my interest, enjoy.
This is book one in The Firefighters of Montana series and it features Laurel Keenan and Sam Gaskill. The attraction between these two was incredibly strong from the moment they met. I love these two! Laurel has no brain-to-mouth filter and Sam is the brooding, sexy Captain. They both have their reasons to keep it casual but things don't always work out that way. Laurel's son Tyson is a little cutie. I really liked that his father was involved and he wasn't a total failure as a part-time father.
Fantastic story in an equally fantastic series. I can't wait to read the next book!
The thrill of danger helps him forget the pain of loss. Can the love of a good woman help him learn to live again? Sam is a man on a mission. Start over and leave the past behind. A new town and an adventurous job should be just what he needs to escape the helpless guilt and grief that has been his constant companion. What he doesn't count on is finding a second chance at love. Smolder is as intense as it's title, but the beauty of Ms. Solheim is she can deliver breathless romance while crafting a heart-stopping thrill.
Smolder is the first book in the Firefighters of Montana Series and was a very enjoyable book that has me looking forward to the rest of the series. Tracy Solheim is a new author to me but I really liked her writing style and I loved reading about the smoke jumpers.
This book centers around Sam who is a former Army Ranger with a complicated past, a lot of guilt and a very dangerous job. Laurel is the daughter of ranch owners and horse trainers who at one time competed with horses but once she became pregnant with a extreme snow boarder's child and ended up a single mom her life changed dramatically. Now her life revolves around her son and trying to be safe and make smart decisions. She has no place in her life for a man with a dangerous job but the attraction between the two is fierce.
At right around 150 pages this book packs a lot of story, emotion and romance into a short amount of space but never makes you feel like you are missing anything. The pacing is superb, the storytelling is compelling and the romance is both steamy and emotional. I thoroughly enjoyed the secondary characters and was given just enough information about both horse training and smoke jumpers to be entertained and informed but never bored. Both characters were likable and had very strong personalities. There was a good mix of action, suspense and romance and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more!

Is loving again the biggest risk of all?
Sam's life has had a lot of changes. He’s no longer in the military, his Army Ranger days are behind him after several deployments. He’s taken on the Captain position for a group of smoke jumper firefighters. It’s a dangerous job, as the death of the former Captain is proof of, but Sam is confident that he can handle the job and everything that comes with it. He’s not boastful but he is damned good at his job – he knows the risks and when they are worth it or not “I won’t send a man or woman into a fire that I wouldn’t jump into myself. It doesn’t have to be in my job description. It’s in my blood.”
He brings his late wife's champion palomino and boards the mare at the Whispering Breeze Ranch, meeting the owner's daughter Laurel Keenan and her 5 year-old son Tyler. Neither Laurel nor Sam can deny the spark of instant attraction between them but neither are looking for any kind of relationship.
This is the first book in a series about Firefighters of Montana, all written by different authors. I enjoyed this story. There wasn't a huge amount about smokejumpers but there was enough to fill in around the romance. It has some very sexy scenes so be forewarned.
My one a only complaint is that I wish it had been a longer book.
Looking forward to reading more in this series of already published books.
This series is a winner. Gritty, authentic, wonderful characters... there is absolutely nothing to dislike in the series.
I liked how the author tackled the thorny issue of replacing a much loved colleague, and how people didn't necessarily like it. That's a tough situation and the way the author handled it felt real.
Really liked this one, and is my favorite in the series. Hot hunky smoke jumpers, and passionate women make a fun book to read. Hard to put this one down. Highly recommend this book and author. This will make a great summer read.
This short novella was a great start to a new series. I really enjoyed the main characters, Sam Gaskill and Laurel Keenan, and her young son added to the book. It was great to read about the development of the sweet romance between Sam and Laurel.
I liked the storyline and really enjoyed the backdrop of the smoke jumpers and the Montana setting. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is part of w strong series about firefighters and they way they live and risk their lives. The new captain comes to this place and he is still feeling guilty about his deceased wife. Things were never as they should have been and now he is just trying to fulfill a promise of having her horse trained to show and have a chance at winning.
He has the horse come with him at his new location and he is boarding and training it a ranch which is known for expert show training.
Both main characters met and get on the wrong side from the start. She is to train his horse... and he is feeling interest for the first time in forever.
Their attraction Smolders and Burns.
First book in the Firefighters of Montana series where the reader is introduced to Sam, a smoke jumper and Laurel, a dreamer who returned to the family ranch. These two must find trust and love together in midst of their jobs and responsibility. Thoroughly enjoyed this story and characters.
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
I really liked the first half of this book. It had many elements I love-cowboys, firefighters, animals, Montana, etc. I really liked Laurel and Sam and their dynamic but I felt it completely fizzled in the second half. Especially because they walked away from each other for a month for no reason. I did like the character of Bryce and how he wasn't the typical asshole ex. The resolution with the kid and the fire just seemed too fast and crazy
Honey, you had me at smoke jumper! One of my favorite genres of the romance category is men in uniform, such as fire, police, or Armed Forces. This is both as our hero is a former Army Ranger who is now in charge of a group of smoke jumpers. Add in a little angst and this was a great book for me. Can't wait for the rest of the series.
Loved this story of adventure, suspense and love. Talk about hot firefighters! Smokin' hot smokejumpers! Can't wait to read more.
Smolder by Tracy Solheim
Firefighters of Montana #1
Smolder indeed! Great book! I enjoyed it from beginning to end and recommend it to those looking for a fun way to spend a few hours in Montana.
After looking online I found that five authors have worked together to create this series of books that deal with sizzling hot men who work as smokejumpers but also as search and rescue patrol and live in a base camp on forest service land in Montana. Each of the potential men and women who will star in their own romance novels is introduced in this first book and I have to say I am intrigued by more than one of the characters and eager to read their stories if they are even half as good as this one!
So, in this book…Captain Sam Gaskill has been hired to be in charge of the team of firefighters and has recently moved to town. He has brought his deceased wife’s horse to be stabled and trained at the Keenan ranch. He meets Laurel Keenan and her son Tyler almost immediately and there is a strong pull between the two of them. With both being rather impulsive it doesn’t take much time for them to heat up the sheets BUT with both also being leery of commitment there are some things for the two of them to work through if they are to have a HEA.
Thank you to NetGalley and Tule Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars
Smolder does live up to its title! Sam is certainly the smoldering hero that we love to read about. Him and Laurel are adorable together had such a wonderful witty passion. I really enjoyed all of the smokejumpers scenes and felt that the author really did her research on all of that. The push and pull between Sam and Laurel was well done and I enjoyed the struggle that they went through. Made for some nice angst throughout. The love scenes were well written and there were some great side characters added in (especially Laurel's girlfriends). Would have like to have seen a bit more dialog between Laurel and Sam before the "I love you's" started flowing but overall it was a quick and easy romance that left me more than satisfied!
Who doesn't love a firefighter, and when that firefighter is a smoke jumper the heat is sure to be turned up. Smolder is the first in the five book Firefighters of Montana series and is packed with action from the first page to the last. Tracy Solheim has done a great job with both her character development and her plot to deliver a believable second chance at love story, with plenty of action in and out of the bedroom. This was an afternoon read that I really enjoyed.
Ms Solheim has created two very dynamic characters in Sam and Laurel who grab your heart quite quickly...add in Tyson and you have a winning combination for a gripping and compelling yet heartwarming story.
There is so much intense emotional and physical chemistry throughout this story that you can't help but be completely captivated with Sam and Laurel. From the onset their pull is felt, especially with Sam's larger than life, yet approachable persona. His magnetic masculine character is the perfect draw to bring settlement to Laurel's impetuous nature. Each time they come together is heart racing and swoon worthy.
I look forward to reading more of the series because these men and women firefighters are easy to create an emotional attachment to and deserve their own HEA.
This advanced readers copy was provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
