This is the first book that I have picked up by Sarah, and I loved the trip back in time! It was an enjoyable Regency style story.

Mariposa is in desperate need of help. She can only think of one person to turn to. Jason Jonquil. He has come highly recommended by his brother and she knows that if anyone can uncover the truth it will be him. But she must take heed to not give too much away. Her life and her family's lives depend on his utmost discretion. She does not like deceiving him, but she must keep her family safe!

Jason cannot believe the nerve of Mariposa! How dare she insult his intelligence and character! He has never met someone so condescending in his life! He will do his best to help her with her dilemma as quickly as possible so he can get the infuriating woman out of his life!

But the more time he spends with her, the more intrigued he becomes. There is definitely more to the story than she is telling and slowly, he sees her firmly placed mask slipping. This spitfire of a woman is going to be the death of him. But heaven help him, he just can't walk away. Somewhere along the way, he has fallen in love with her and can no longer picture his life without her in it. He will help her solve her mystery and then he will do whatever it takes to keep this fiery Spanish beauty in his life for good.

While I really enjoyed this book, I didn't love it like I have the others in the Jonquil Brothers series. I had a hard time connecting with Mariposa. I get why she did what she did, but at times I think she went way overboard. There were times during the story that I was willing Jason to just run far away! But, being a Jonquil, he saw past her faults and fell in love with the person she truly is. I did end up liking her more in the end but the beginning was definitely rough for me.

I absolutely love the Jonquil brothers! I have enjoyed all of their stories so far. Years ago, I read one too many regency/historical romances in a short period of time and got burned out on them. I have avoided them ever since. BUT I am happy to announce that rereading this series has made me fall in love with this genre all over again! I can't wait to reread more of Ms. Eden's books!

And speaking of Ms. Eden, from the moment I read my first book by her, I knew she would always be a favorite of mine. I have adored all her books. I know I will be reading and rereading her books years from now! I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next! If you haven't read anything by her then you are definitely missing out!

Sarah Eden has written an entertaining story in A Fine Gentleman. There were a few times I actually laughed out loud. Mariposa and Jason are a charming couple whos wit is a perfect foil for each other. They are both well thought out characters and I did not want to say goodbye to them. My only issue was that this was book four and I have not read the first three, so stay tuned for more reviews in the future.

I was given this book by NetGalley.com for review purposes. All thoughts are my own.

From Amazon:

London barrister Jason Jonquil has spent his entire life working to establish his identity as a gentleman, a man of refinement like his father and brothers. But when fiery Spanish beauty Mariposa Thornton walks into his office, he finds himself losing his grasp on his dignified character. The woman is infuriating, pushing him to the limit of his legendary patience. However, her case seems simple enough—a small matter of inheritance. Or so he believes.Once a well-born lady, Mariposa fought to survive the brutalities of Napoleon’s war on Spain. She braved horrific perils and undertook dangerous missions on behalf of those fighting against the invading French army. But her greatest battle still lies ahead: after being separated from her family, Mariposa sets in motion a plan to reunite with her loved ones in England. To avoid drawing the attention of the French, Mariposa dons a carefully crafted persona to conceal her true purpose. As Jason and Mariposa are drawn together by the case, they come to know the people beneath the masks they both wear. When the truth of Mariposa’s quest is revealed, the couple is pulled into a mystery that will test the limits of their courage—and expose the true desire of their hearts.

This book was exactly the kind of historical romance I needed in my life during a busy and stressful week. I loved the different cultural elements, the strong family ties, and the humor in this book. I will absolutely be seeking out more books by this author as soon as possible as her storytelling reminds me of my beloved Julia Quinn,

Struggled to like the characters, Jason in particular.

A Regency romance with a bit of a twist. Jason Jonquil is a younger brother of a titled household, making his own way in the world as a barrister and trying to uphold his station in life as a gentleman, but when Mariposa Thornton walks into his life with a task which is somewhat beneath his dignity, he finds himself doing all he can to help the infuriating woman. She's been ousted from her home in Spain by the Iberian Peninsular wars and is desperately trying to find what's left of her family whom she believes may have fled to their English relatives. There are a few twists and turns, largely caused by Mariposa not being entirely forthcoming about her real quest or the man she believes means to harm her family. It took me a while to warm to Mariposa and Jason as a characters. In the end it's all resolved without bloodshed. I was somewhat disappointed that a character whom we never meet, but hear much of, doesn't have his story resolved at the end. It may be resolved in one of her other Jonquil Brothers books, but I had this as a review copy from Netgalley and the blurb didn't mention that it was number four in a series. To its credit it stood up on its own, except for resolving this particular character. Now that I know it's a series, I guess the next brother will be resolved in another book.

Charming and witty
This book had everything you could possibly want in a novel - close family ties; strong, honourable, handsome men; a brave, clever and beautiful woman; deception; laugh out loud humour; despair and anguish; and a HEA. This was a finely crafted story, heads above most "Regency" stories. It was such a relief to read a well researched historical novel that did not jar the reader with 21st century mores. Highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

Eden has written yet another fantastic Jonquil Brothers novel. I could not put it down. I want more!

This book, the fourth in the series, works well as a stand alone novel. Mariposa grabs you right from the beginning, and you really feel drawn into the story. Both of the main characters grow through the course of the story, and the humor is well written. The scars of war in the story appear true to life. I really enjoyed the sprinkling of Spanish and French throughout the book. A quality, quick read.

Incredible read.
Jason is one of six sons and a barrister. Mariposa is Spanish and in need of a soliciter.
I was quickly drawn into the story. The characters are complex but also warm, caring and funny. Throughout the characters began healing and changing for the better. The descriptions gave one a sense of where they and what was happening at the time. The plot was excellent but smooth and filled the need to get to know the characters or expand on our knowledge of them. I was very impressed with the author's writing and how she wove her tale. I really loved it and hope to read more.

A Fine Gentleman is the latest book in the Jonquil Brothers series. This one is about Jason, the twin brother of Corbin who was featured in the last book. This one takes place simultaneously with the last book and there are a few brief over-lapping events that I enjoyed revisiting from Jason's point of view. I also really liked getting to visit with Phillip and Sorrel in this book, and there was more time spent with them than I thought there would be.

In the beginning Mariposa really annoyed me and I thought the act she was putting on was really unnecessary, especially after she had secured Jason's services, why keep insulting him? I never thought Jason had anything to apologize for concerning that part of the book. For a while there I wasn't expecting to like this book much at all. I thought it would be my least favorite of the whole series, but as soon as Mariposa dropped the act she began to grow on me and I ended up liking this book quite a lot.

One thing I really appreciated about this book is there were very few contrived misunderstandings between Jason and Mariposa. Sure there were some during the time Mariposa was acting, but that was a little different. Notice I said very few, as in there was still a little bit of that. There were a couple of times when Jason acted pretty silly over getting close to Mariposa and his developing feelings for her, but it was not too annoying. Anyway it was a nice change from all the other books in this series that seemed to include a lot of that sort of thing. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series and if I had to guess I would say it will be about Stanley who is off in the war and whom everyone was worried about in this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher Covenant Communications for giving me a copy of this book.

This was my first book in the Jonquil Brother series. It intrigued me so much that I went back to the first three and read them. This is a great series and it is clean romance. I don't have to turn 5 extra pages without reading them because there is no sex involved.
This book is pretty funny. Jason is a Barrister and is pretty set in his ways, so when a fiery Spanish beauty Mariposa Thornton waltzes into his office and hires him as her Solicitor he can just nod and think, how did I agree to that. She baffles him at every turn and even manages to make him mad at times. In due time the full reason she needs him comes to light.
They are drawn together through her case. They manage one trial after another and through it all they become closer together.

Super sweet and romantic story with a heavy dose of emotion. I think I need to read the first two books in this series. These characters are so perfectly imperfect. I loved them all.

What's a woman to do? Who will help solve Mariposa's inheritance questions? She finds Jason, an aspiring barrister, but will he proved to be a true gentleman - or send her elsewhere.

An amusing and creative story - worth taking on a trip or to the beach.

This was a lovely read. There are some comic elements, and while this is a series, this novel can be read as a standalone.
Jason's story, intertwined with Mariposa's is a fun, lovely read. I will say this, I have read almost all of what S. E. has written, and in my opinion, she has made strides as a novelist. While Mariposa provides some comic relief in the beginning of the novel, you see her heart, and see Jason's softening towards her. There is definitely attraction, but for me, the way both of the MC evolve, and their perceptions and understanding about themselves, their love interest, their empathy, and others made the novel more 'real' for me. Definitely a strong novel with that regard. Seeing that growth, not just in their feelings, but as characters as well made this more than 'just a romance', 'just a comedy'. It really was a novel with character growth and development.
Enjoy this, it is a lovely read!
I received a copy from Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I love Sarah Eden's books. I have read almost all of the Jonquil brother's books and love getting to know these brothers better and better with each book. This one focuses on Jason, the barrister. He had popped in and out in the other books so I was happy to finally get to really know him and watch his romance with Mariposa unfold. They were a fun couple with some great repartee. I thought this story's theme about why a person may put on a persona was interesting. I thought it was great to see Jason understand his older brother's persona and realize that he too was using one to deal with emotions he didn't want to work through. This was a great addition to this series and I look forward to finding out more about this family of brothers as they find their places in the world and the ladies that will help them in life.

Lovely clean romance.

I loved this so much I have already read it twice! (the first time I devoured it, the second time I wanted to read it to catch any nuances I missed the first time!)
I LOVE the sarcastic wit of Mariposa. She is a darling character. She is strong & competent and yet caring & compassionate. She is able to get under Jason Jonquil's skin like no one else. I love that she switches back and forth between Spanish and English-especially when frustrated! I think it makes her character more believable.
Jason is a great hero. He feels deeply the need to honor the family name, yet Mariposa is constantly belittling, demeaning or insulting him. He is wearing a mask just as much as Philip wears one. This is one of my favorite series!

My Review: 7/10

Mariposa's character had me laughing out loud which is something I always appreciate. The plot was predictable, but I'm a sucker for stories of war torn families being reunited, so I cannot help but be affected. The dialogue was frequently too sickly sweet for my taste, but this was not unexpected as I have read many books by this author. If that's your style or it doesn't interfere with your enjoyment of a story, I would recommend this book to you. And though I felt that the story dragged on a bit at times, I appreciated the ending, Philip's advice, Mari's new beginning, and being visited by loved characters from other novels. Very enjoyable read.

Jason Jonquil provides himself on his good character--he's dignified and refined, ever the gentleman...even if no one seems to fully appreciate him or think him quite equal to his brothers. When Mariposa Thornton arrives in his office, though, she tries his patience and flusters him in ways few people can. He can't wait to figure out Mariposa's matter of an inheritance and send her on her way.
Mariposa has escaped from Spain, having experience horrors in the war with Napoleon. She has come to England hoping that her mother and little brother have come to England as well and settled with her father's family. However, Mariposa doesn't know who her father's relatives are, so she doesn't know how to find them. She doesn't trust anyone, though, so she won't tell Jason what she really needs help with and hides even her true self from him.
While Jason doesn't care for how Mariposa treats him, he also can't abandon his principles--especially those that require him to help a lady--so he reluctantly aids her, and in so doing, she pushes him to reveal parts of himself that he had buried inside, as well as revealing who she truly is.

Sarah Eden rocks. I love her books, and this was no exception. I loved seeing Jason's interactions with Mariposa but also his interactions with his family and especially seeing why he acted the way he did. Mariposa was a bit frustrating in her initial treatment of Jason, but it was also realistic given her past. I loved seeing how they bantered later on, and I loved getting to see other Jonquils (especially Philip and Sorrel) in this book. Can't wait for more books by Sarah Eden!
