"Making Love Last” was filled with great advice. I found it so helpful I purchased a copy for my newly married son and his wife.
I received this galley from NetGalley.
Making Love Last: Divorce-Proofing Your Young Marriage by Laura Taggart is a wonderful book from a marriage and family therapist. Laura Taggart goes through many different aspects of marriage and explains how to strengthen them. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to strengthen their marriage. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest review.
This book is a great tool for every married couple to have in their tool belt. With over 30 years experience as a counselor, Laura Taggart's wisdom and insights in the book are very helpful to be able to navigate the adventure of marriage and remain intact. Highly recommend!
The coming together of two unique individuals, with their own thoughts, backgrounds and ideas isn't as smooth and seamless as Hollywood or popular sources would have you believe. Many young people jump into marriage without the benefit of positive role models and without the full knowledge of what it really takes to blend two lives.
I appreciated the positive application of ideas and the thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter. I also appreciated the strong faith application and the reminder that Marriage is God's gift to us, and the reminder that by drawing closer to God we can draw closer with our spouse and have the marriage that God intended. This book is a wonderful resource for young married couples, and couples struggling to find their way back to each other.
(I received a complimentary digital copy of this book for review from Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
Making Love Last by Laura Taggart
This book is all about marriage. I will say, it was in-depth and intense at times. There is a lot of psychology behind the discussion of marriage, which is to be expected because the author is a marriage therapist. I did enjoy learning about through the writing how marriage is so affected by childhood. After learning about the problems in marriage, she also explores how there are protectors in marriage, and what they do to harm the marriage.
This book is split into three distinct parts. The first part is about how we should change our thinking about marriage and how to look at it differently. Part two goes into the deep parts about looking internally to see if you are the reason for problems in your marriage. The last part challenges the reader to look at marriage in a new light and to look forward.
I will say that the book is full of heavy content. If psychology is your thing, you will love it. I did enjoy learning about how my marriage can be so affected by things like childhood and how to work through some of these issues. It did take me longer than normal to get through this book because the content was heavy. I would recommend this book to anyone who is having struggles in marriage, or is wanting a deeper understanding of how your entire life will affect your marriage for its entirety. Also, use this as a tool to help you understand yourself more in light of marriage.
Taggart also weaves the truths of God into her book to help you connect marriage and your part to a greater being. I enjoyed the bits of biblical wisdom threaded through the chapters and the writing.
I did receive an advanced readers copy from the publisher. All opinions in this blog are my own.
This book is filled with some great advice for young married couples that I will gladly pass on to newlyweds I know. The book is written with a focus on young people and how generations have altered since the baby boomer marriages, it recognises that people now go into marriages with careers and more single life experience than before which is great. The advice is easy to apply.
