The Beguiled is a beautifully written dark tale set during the Civil War in Virginia. When a wounded soldier is found near the Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies, he is taken in to heal and insists he'll be of no trouble. Of course, a school of young woman with only one man present is sure to get troubling. Lust, lies, jealousy, violence, are all present and stem from the passion the the introduction to the soldier brings. The book uses unreliable narrators in a brilliant way. Overall, this is an intriguing story that does a great job at psychological suspense. Readers of historical thrillers should be sure to check out The Beguiled.
