The is also the girl's boss's ex..
So.. Uhh when they are thrown into working together she's scared cuz she doesnt wanna lose her job but he's determined.
Sorry for the inconvenience but I have lost interest in the concept. Thank you for providing the copy though. I look forward to reading some more titles of yours. Thanks!
I have to be honest, this book was not for me! I tried, I really did to get into this one. I started it and then set it aside just to try again. So based on that, I will not be leaving a review on my blog’s social media platforms.
Thank you for allowing me to try Michele’s work. I know that she is a new author. I wish her luck.
Good Debut with Room for Growth In Exploring Multiracial Characters
The steamy scenes were pretty well done. The first and last thirds were cluttered; too many characters, relationships, and situations fell on top of each other. Neither main character was particularly sympathetic to me, and I wasn't invested in their happy ending. I felt Bailey was whiny and immature, and Lucas, stereotypical. That said, there is something compelling at the core, and perhaps with the next book, the tightness of a debut will ease, allowing the characters to tell the story, and the author, to recede a bit. Finally, books that only address race as a challenge, diminish the potential of diverse characters. Why does being Black, matter? Tell us that, in addition to throwing in the disapproving Others, and the accidentally marginalizing comments about skin color.
Another billionaire who thinks he can have whatever he wants without any consideration of what anyone else wants.
Lucas Marx sets his sights on Bailey Walters, the part time waitress serving him. When it turns out that Lucas is the ex of Bailey's boss of her daytime job things get complicated.
Bailey is sent out to help Lucas design his home. She does whatever she can to keep away from him. Will she be able to deny her feelings for a man who always gets what he wants.
The writing was decent, but it's the same story told in most books of this type. I'm sure others really loved it enough to rate higher than 3 stars but it was only OK to me.
Devil's Deal is a mostly well written, steamy love story. Bailey is a waitress who also works as a designer at an interior design firm. She's working 2 jobs to pay off her debt, and hoping someday her dream job of head designer will come true, when she meets Lucas, a hot billionaire playboy, at her waitressing job. He hits on her and is really surprised that his usual lines don't work on her.
She's a little sensitive because she's been hurt by the insipid, cheating exes in her past, not to mention that she feels as if Lucas is only interested in trying to figure out her ethnic makeup. I can relate to that; I've been asked whether I'm everything from Mexican to Hawaiian to Native American, when in fact, I'm Filipina. It makes for a less than positive introduction to someone who's hoping to get to know you, and Bailey definitely didn't like it, either. But, he gets a chance later to make up for his misstep earlier, when he runs into Bailey at her design job, and he's even more delighted when Bailey is assigned to work on his home.
As their relationship takes a turn into sexual, even though Bailey had been adamant that she'd never sleep with him, it was nice to see Lucas be interested even after the first time they had sex. But, it was also at this point that I started to have some misgivings about this story. Some of the wording in the sex scenes was a bit cheesy, (ie: penis rather than c**k, vagina rather than p***y, and even labia. Ugh, such clinical terms have no place in steamy scenes!) and I was a bit disappointed that Bailey gave in so quickly to Lucas when she had been so strong before. The story languishes a bit, and there's some drama regarding exes of both Bailey and Lucas, and there's the inevitable point where they breakup because of miscommunication. It was all resolved rather quickly, though, with not too much angst.
I wavered between 3 and 4 stars, but because I like both Bailey and Lucas, I decided on 4 stars. I like their connection and the fact that this is an interracial romance, but that the race issue isn't the central point of interest. I do have to say that the epilogue was a surprise, and kind of a terrible way to end Lucas and Bailey's story, but, it does set up Sienna (Bailey's best friend) and Gavin's (Lucas' best friend) story, which I'm looking forward to. Here's hoping Michele will leave out the cheesy language in the sex scenes and keep Gavin and Sienna the interesting characters they are here in Devil's Deal.
Lucas was looking out his window and noticed a girl who he thought was hot then she got down on her knees to catch a runaway dog under her car. Then he noticed her go into Nuage Cafe to work. Lucas wasn’t a bad guy he had done a lot for his personal assistant Kara and the problems she had getting her mom into a caring place specializing with ALS patient. Bailey was the girl Lucas had noticed and he showed up at the cafe. Bailey’s best friend and roommate was Sienna They had been close since freshman year of college both girls had day jobs as well as the Cafe. Bailey hadn’t been with a man in three years. The two ex boyfriends Bailey had been involved with had cheated on her, So Bailey hadn’t been with anyone sexually in three years. So Bailey concentrated on on her career and paying off her student loan debt. Bailey saw Lucas and was attracted to him but felt all Lucas wanted was to sleep with her and then dump her. But Lucas wanted to get to know Bailey but he also wanted to sleep with Bailey. But Bailey’s boss was Lucas’s ex and she let it be known she wanted him back and Bailey felt she couldn’t chance her job. But Lucas helps out Sienna as she is an artist looking for a break and Lucas got her that break and then he asks Sienna for a favor and have Sienna talk Bailey into going on a date with Lucas and she did and Bailey said she would go on a date with Lucas if she could pick the place and what they did and Lucas agreed.
A good story and it kept my interest but dragged a little at times. The plot was great. The story was a bit predictable but did throw in a couple of surprises. I loved how close Sienna and Bailey were and how they loved each other as sisters. This was a great romance with some twists. I also loved Bailey and Lucas together. My heart broke for Sienna when she told her story and all this is a very good read. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.
I really liked this billionaire romance. The story is good, the sex is steamy. Lucas and Bailey have amazing chemistry and the story has plenty of drama and emotion. An entertaining read.
I love this book and it's a great start to this series and by this author. It's got great characters and a great story you just can't help wanting to see where this series is going to go as it has so much great things going for it. Would recommend giving this book and author a go as you won't regret it as I know I didn't and will be looking for more books from this author from now on.
Devil's Deal is a great story. I couldn't stop reading it, very suspenseful. I will have to read more by Michelle Arris.
I really liked this romance. It was a believable story and I can't wait to read more.
This book wasn't bad (so I'll give it 2 stars) but rather your typical bland (IR) billionaire boyfriend romance that mildly annoyed me more than anything else, mostly due to the overuse of the boring tropes of this subgenre. You got the instant attraction/lust/love : check. The light skinned black woman with "unique" features that were repeatedly focused on by the writing so that if we missed it in the very first paragraph we were sure to not missed it the numerous other times we get reminded of those yes and "honey" browned caramel skin : check. The billionaire boyfriend who lavishes his lust/love interest with diamonds and shit, pays for her car and everything, save her job just cause he can and the lust/love interest who feebly opposes his grand gestures but then just let him : check. outrageously expensive Unnecessary fake triangle/jealousy/mean ex-lovers from hell plot : check. The slightly brutish jealous, possessive and manipulating billionaire love interest that quickly got on my nerves with the way he kept leering at the heroine and coming way too strong at her (with the requisite instantaneous rock solid "hard on" ugh!), and then got all jealous of her long time friend after one date, and then manipulated her friend and caused a rift between them, etc. He wasn't the worst
of this kind, I kind of tolerated him, but certainly not the best and I had a hard time finding him attractive. As for the heroine, Bailey, she had some potential but it all fizzled out the moment she saw him (and got instantly wet...), lost all of her professional distance, let him almost roll all over him, and the moment she got some back bone back she decided to get rid of it immediately by apologizing to him after he manipulated her weak ass.... So, yeah, she wasn't the worst kind but not the best either. Finally, if I could believe the lust, didn't buy the "luvvvv" that happened not even after knowing each other for all of 5 minutes. I also felt more for Kevin, who I find way more attractive, physically and also with the way he acted, than the billionaire lovers that I was supposed to be amazed by. So yeah, not the worst but not the most interesting.
Really like this book for about half way through. Then it appeared the author gave both main characters way too many hang-ups. So much so that I felt like both Lucas and Bailey acted more like teens than young adults.
Devil's Deal, Tarnished Billionaires 1, Michele Arris
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance, Erotica
I thought this sounded a fun read, I do love a romance with some spice ;-) but for me its a fail. Others love it and we all want different things though so might still be perfect for you even though it wasn't for me.
I found for a Billionaire "playboy" Lucas was far too quick to fall for Bailey, the lust between them was believable, but I found it hard to believe in the insta-love - it didn't fit the people I felt they were when they'd barely had a couple of dates...and not wholly successful ones at that.
I have a little trouble with insta-love scenes, when its people who've spent their life vying away from love. It needs to be a really special relationship and I didn't feel they'd got to know each other anywhere near enough for that.
Bailey is far to quick to push him away, too quick to lay blame at others door, and rely on past hurts, and yet friend Faith gets away with murder IMO. Sienna, the real friend, acted in a way I also found to be stretching credibility - it was far too predictable what was going to happen as a result of her actions, and then Bailey really over-reacted, not giving her a chance to explain.
Altogether it was a novel which I thought I'd like but fell short for me, but as ever you choose. Others love it.
Stars: Two and a half, it had promise and there were some parts that worked so it's more than a two, but doesn't really hit the three "good" rating.

4.5 Stars.
Wow I haven't had this much fun reading a book in a while. Lucas and Bailey's story is breathtaking, suspenseful, angsty, thought provoking, dramatic, and passionate. I wanted to grab a hold of the characters and shake them at times. Sandra, I knew from the first word that she was trouble and it felt like nails on a chalkboard every time she spoke.
Lucas and Bailey each have pasts that make relationships challenging for them. With a few missteps, some well intended events that went wrong and for good measure throw in a few crazies to it make it more difficult.
I fell for not only Lucas and Bailey but for Sienna and Gavin as well. I can't wait to get my hands on their story. You know you have a good book when the last line hits you and it's like they are real and you want to run to them.
Devil's Deal is a beautiful love story that brought a smile to my face. Made me feel good about humanity again and has me craving more. Michele Arris provided memorable characters, hot scenes, unexpected turns and she held me prisoner until the last word.
4.5 Star because there were a few predictable scenes and I felt that the pace slowed for a few chapters. Over all this is a very solid story line with characters that are easy to bond with and grab a hold of the reader.
A sexy romance, full of lust, misunderstandings, jealousy, occasional humour, good friends and lots of stubbornness.
Lucas gets hit by the Bailey bus, Insta lust, and he goes to some sneaky methods to get her. Bailey is, at times, painfully insecure and jumps to the wrong conclusions. Even with this angst, these two must be together. A rather sweet, sexy at times romance. Slow at first, then it became one of those books I didn't want to put down.
