Donna is Blazing with this one, as always she is on fire and the story is on point. I do not have anything bad to say
*4.5 stars*
There be fierce and outrageously handsome dragons...
I love this author’s cowboys, and paranormal romance, so picking up Blaze was a no-brainer. How I got started in the middle of the series though escapes me. I definitely felt like a duck out of water trying to get up to speed on the series story arc but Anson and Devon were a wonderful way to start. And get hooked…
Devon was leading a good life. A bit lonely but her focus was on her career and the company that was helping her achieve her goals. When she was approached out of the blue with information that put everything she knew on its ear, well, Anson helped pave the way. The sparks between them were immediate and their leap into more was quick. And, surprisingly, I wanted that for them. Considering what was happening around them their courtship was fast, furious and oh so good. They were good people and settled for less than what they deserved. Until now…
Suspense, tension, bold characters fighting for good and evil. It all came together in the perfect storm to create a paranormal world inhabited by fierce and protective dragons and the strong women brave enough to be their equals. I could only hope this world actually existed…
A happy ending for Devon and Anson didn’t mean the fight was over. Far from it. I have a lot of catching up to do!
Ok so I may have been a little lost since I hadn’t read the prior books in this series. it was a good book though. The right amount of action and romance. I am interested in reading the rest of this series now.
ARC received for review
Anson and Devon are another great Dragon King couple. Her situation and the way out of it are again completely different from the previous couples. Plus add in seeing the previous couples, plus the Dark Warriors coming to help. Rhi is getting back in my good graces again. Why can Con not put on his big boy pants and just kill Ulrick already?
Fantasy romance books are not really my cup of tea, and although I didn't immediately realize that's what this was - I quickly learned. Given that, I do like Donna Grant and I enjoy her writing style. While the content was not something I loved, her writing is engaging and brings the reader into the story and engages the reader to care and be invested in the characters. I felt a little tired of reading this at times, but I think that may be attributed to the story genre, which for me is difficult to really get into.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Blaze, book eleven in the Dark Kings series, centres mainly around a fierce Dragon King named Anson and his unlikeliest of allies Devon Abrams, a human woman. To fight against sinister Fae and protect the world, Anson must gain Devon's trust in order to defeat the enemy from within, where they least expect it, before humanity they know is killed. However, it's more difficult than it seems when Anson must fight Fae in order to protect Devon, as well as battle his own attraction to her before their passion sets ablaze his heart.
Blaze is an intoxicating and enthralling journey that will shake your world apart and burn it all down. What you find within these pages will captivate your mind and transform your heart. This is a stunningly complex and beautifully crafted story that continues the Dragon Kings series to a fever pitch. When you walk into this world, you will find a decedent love, an unyielding passion, and a fierce hope that will either conquer all or destroy everything in its wake. Nothing about this journey is for the faint of heart, but if you dare to wander into their world prepare for a life-altering experience that will forever leave its mark on your very soul.
All Anson ever wanted was a simple life. What he got was nothing that he could have ever imagined. His heartaches for all that he has lost, yet there is a spark of hope within that refuses to die. Living the life that he has resigned himself to, he agrees to a dangerous mission that if successful will ensure the safety of him and his family for a while longer. Devon just want to live a simple yet content life. She knows what can happen when we lose control and allow our passion to rule us. Instead, she has carved out a quiet life filled with the job that she loves, so when Anson blazes his way into Devon’s life, she knows that things will never be the same again. Suddenly life isn’t as happy and safe as it seemed to be, and nothing can change the terrifying truth that bleeds into every part of her life.
Anson is a new character for me to get to know, and I was amazed at what I discovered. Devon has a dark part that still haunts her, but she refuses to allow it to rule her life. These two characters complimented each other perfectly, and I loved watching them to get to know each other and work toward their common goal. There was so much more going on underneath the surface that you need to quiet your mind and heart to be able to see it all. This is such a marvelous story that I truly hated to see it end. However, the ending was just as perfect, so it made swallowing that bitter pill a little easier.
Donna Grant is truly a fantasy and romance powerhouse! She has created some outstanding series that are truly heart stopping and breath taking. I would recommend any of her books to a reader who is interested in getting a taste of her writing style and character development. No matter what she writes, she never fails to delight and entertain. Don’t wait to experience her brand of genius. Go and pick up one of her books right now.
Anson, a Dragon King, accompanies two mortal women to London on their assignment to watch the tech company, Kyvor. They meet a promising young employee, Devon, and have to convince her that she's in danger. Devon soon learns that she can only depend on Ester and Kinsey and Anson for her safety and her life.
This was my first Dark Kings story and it was rather complicated with the talk of dragons, fae, druids, and warriors. The action also shifted between London, Scotland, and Ireland and some of it was rather confusing. I felt that the author gave enough background to fill me in on the histories of the different couples but I can tell that there is much more to tell for future stories.
Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an ARC; all opinions are my own.
Anson and Devon are great protagonists. Devon's hacking skills are par excellent and she's gone a long way to exposing some of the Dragon Kings and Dreagan's secrets. When she finds out that her employers have been keeping close tabs on her and perhaps even controlling her mind, she's out and on the side of the Kings. Of course her potentially mating with Anson may have something to do with the blinders being lifted.
This is a pivotal story where some facts are brought into the open for the Dragon Kings that the readers knew about and other things are revealed to the readers.
The tide is turning against Mikkel. Can't wait to see where the story will go next.
Blaze: A Dragon Romance (Dark Kings Book 11) is a must read. This is the first book I have read in this series, and I will definitely will be going back to read the other books. Anson is with Kinsey and Ryder to investigate a tech company that Devon works for. They must enlist her aide to help them out. When Devon finds out that the company has her home, phone and computer on surveillance, her life is put in danger. I recommend this book to everyone. I give BLAZE 5/5 STARS.
I voluntarily read an advanced reviewers copy of this book
I love the direction of this series. This series really heats up with Anson and Devon's romance. I really liked the twist at the end and all of the bumps in the road that Anson and Devon encountered. I also loved how Devon kicked but; she was such a fighter and was not afraid to fight for the people she cared about.
Overall a great addition to the series.
Giving a rating of 4 stars as I see the potential in the story! But I've not read the other 10 books in the series and I'm losing engagement with the characters because I want to know all the other stories that built up to this one... I'll need to
Read the others before I can provide an honest review.
Blaze is book number 11 in the Dark Kings (Dragon Kings) series. Well I sadly must admit, even though I'm a huge Donna Grant fan, I've felt a few of these books have been drawn out and not a lot happened. However, Blaze had me on the edge of my seat and excited to read it! I could not wait to find out what happened next with Anson and Devon. Their story was sexy, intimate and left readers with more questions and maybe just a few answers....
I was very excited to see more from the warriors and druids in Blaze. I also liked some of the glimpses of Con that had me smiling and wanting to know more. Rhi's part in Blaze had me very interested and I can't wait to see how the rest of her story unfolds. Thank you Ms Grant for your amazing writing and sharing your dragons with us!
In the beginning I wasn't sure if Devon would be a strong enough primary female character for this book but she had a quiet strength about her that was refreshing and created a no-nonsense type feeling as she moved through this story. Readers will come to admire her and how she deals with all the unusual and scary things that begin to happen to her.
Mr. I don't need help, Anson, comes across as not caring or involved in what is happening but don't let this fool you. As a primary male character, he is continually evolving throughout the story showing him as caring and compassionate as well as angry and violent. The author does a phenomenal job of slowly letting his softer side come out while keeping the tension present.
This book has most of the characters from previous books to this series so it feels like home while you are reading. You learn a little more about Rhi and Con's lost relationship and you get to see more of the Evil Ulrick and his uncle. For me, Rhi's part in this book just keeps her pain up upfront and personal regarding her breakup with Con, constantly tearing at the hole in my heart when I think of them losing each other.
Also, woven into the story are characters from the Dark Sword series and the newer Reaper series. This is by far one of the parts that I love about the author, Donna Grant's writing. She always brings in previous series creating a larger world for the reader. I have read every book of these three series and many of her other series. How many have you read?
Because of the uniqueness of Anson and Devon's story I give this 4.5 Stars.
Returning to the Dark Kings, this tale features Anson, another dragon king. For those who have not read the previous books in this series, this book can be read as a standalone. Ms. Grant does an excellent job of quick recaps to help a reader get caught up to speed. That being said, it is recommended to read these books in order to understand the nuances between the different secondary characters. In addition, there are several subplots that wind through the multiple books which may be missed if this book is read out of order.
This book definitely appeals to my inner geek. I can easily identify with Devon Abrams. She is a woman working hard up the ranks of her company. She avoids the gossiping politics at work, does a great job and is thorough. So when she's targeted by her own company, she's blindsided. Why is someone who works so hard get penalized? Lucky for Devon, it isn't the first time this has happened to someone in the company. Her guardian angels are not what she expected, but they do offer the help she needs, whether she wants it or not. Sparking the interest in a Dragon King, Anson was not on her list of To-Do's but it happened anyway.
The characters in this story are fun. Devon is the disbelieving heads down working girl. She has a goal and she works towards it. Her world is filled with data and she loves her spreadsheets. To be drop kicked into the supernatural world could have sent her into the mental ward pretty quickly. It is nice to see how she stays in character and sticks to it. She logically tries to explain everything and when there are no other answers, the impossible becomes possible. It does not hurt that Anson is a hella sexy dragon in his human male form. Seriously are there any ugly dragons in human form? Doubtful.
The interactions between Devon and Anson are amusing with the "lost in translation". Basically, with Devon's narrow view of the world, Anson's explanations and actions are mystifying. This makes the dynamic between the two all the more fun to watch. Devon does hop onto the supernatural train rather quickly and the insta-lust hits both pretty fast. Their sexual chemistry is sweet and for me, a bit forgettable only because I'm a jaded erotic reader. I'm more interested in the several subplots slowly moving forward. In addition to why Devon's targeted by her company.
The book moves at a nice easy pace with just enough action and downtime. This book does build up the long running plot of two friends who became enemies over humans. As we learn a little bit more about the long running feud as well as the fae interference, I'm intrigued and wishing the next book would come quickly! This paranormal romance is recommended to dragon lovers.
Anson is a Dragon King. Unlike many of the others, he’s never trusted humans and he doesn’t see any value in them. When he is sent to protect two dragon mates while surveying a tech company that has been after the Dragon Kings, he can’t help his attraction to Devon, the human they think might help them get access to what they need. When Devon gets mysteriously contacted, her curiosity is peaked. As she starts to dig through the rabbit hole, she finds that nothing it what it seems at the company she has worked so hard for.
This is probably one of my favorites of this series so far. I really enjoyed it. It was a bit Matrixy, which worked. Devon is definitely one of my favorite females written by this author. She also did a great job in revealing even more in the series storylines. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I highly recommend.
Grant never disappoints and Blaze certainly lived up to its name! I lost a few hours of sleeping with this one, refusing to stop until I got to the end. Bravo!
Blaze by Donna Grant. This was definitely a case of it’s me, not you. I’ve never read Ms. Grant’s Dark Kings series though it has been on my radar for awhile. When I saw Blaze up for review, I didn’t immediately connect it with the series and thought it was a standalone. I was told I could probably jump in here because Grant does an excellent job of recapping and bringing the storyline up to date. Unfortunately, the recapping isn’t enough for those who aren’t up to date in the series. I was so overwhelmed and confused by the various characters and ongoing storylines, I wasn’t able to connect with it at all. I have learned my lesson and now will start at the beginning of series as one is supposed to do.
So hooked on this series now! I have to go back and read them all. This was a magical book. The characters were amazing, the storyline is addictive, and I literally couldn't put it down.
As Kinsey, Esther, and Anson are in London to find a way in to Kyvor, time feels like it's running out. After watching for weeks they have found their way in, Devon Abrams. She has something each of the women like and Anson just finds her beautiful. But while the girls want her help, he is questioning whether or not they should up end someone's life this way. If Kyvor didn't have his face he would go in by himself.
Finally they decide on Devon and contact her. Once their story is told and she finds out what the company has been up to she decides she will help. At the last minute, however, Anson tries to talk her out of it.
As they are planning a way to go in to get her if necessary she has been call to the boss's office and he has questions that she isn't willing to answer.
This is an intricate story that grows more convoluted and dangerous each time they find out something new. It's amazing for the readers. I loved it!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by this author and i got hooked. Obviously coming in late in the series there were a few things that obviously happened previously to set up this book, however with the way the author writes, she kept me interested in the here and now and although stuff had happened in the past i didn't feel too left out except when it came to Con and Rhi and whatever that was as there is a lot of allusion to that in this book.
However when it comes to Devon and Anson and how they interacted, this was explosive. With Devon trying to get to the top in her company ( a company who hunted another of the females previously) , the clan sees her as a way in as she seems the most to look out for anomalies. I liked Devon, she came in strong, yes there were a lot dropped on her, but she rallied and used her smarts to dig deep into what was actually going on in the company she worked for.
Anson, a dragon shifter never expected to fall for the human woman they were sent to recruit for their side, but after watching her and getting to know more about her, his protective side came out and he finds himself falling for this woman and wanting to protect her at all cost. But as the dangers heat up, both inside the company and from other forces, this story adds to the overall story arc while still giving a satisfying conclusion to Anson and Devon's story.
A fun and exciting PNR read,I would definitely give this author another go.
