The Dark Kings return with Blaze, the story of Anson and Devon. Anson will do anything to protect all that the Kings hold dear. Anson, Kinsey and Esther plan on infiltrating Kyvor. But to do so means enlisting the help of an unsuspecting human female. Strong, resilient and a rising star at Kyvor, Devon Abrams must put all that she holds dear on the line. After all she just so happens to be the type of help Anson needs. But what happens when everything you believed is shattered in the blink of an eye?
There is plenty of twists to keep the story moving nicely. Not quite an insta love story, as there are moments of ‘is this really happening’ but definitely instant sparks. Anson and Devon’s story seems to unfold more secrets. I look forward to revealing more about Rhi and her King, as well as Ulrik’s plans.
OMG...I love this series! Anson and Devon are great together. I love seeing the Dragon Kings fall in love.
This is the second in the Dark Kings series that I have read. The basic plot of this story was interesting and I felt the characters had believable chemistry, but the entire Dragon King subplot was a little ridiculous and over the top for me.
Well thoughout paranormal romance book, this ends in a HEA and is wonderfully written.
So I enjoyed this book... It was good, not great. When I think about all the dragon kings books this one does not stand out. It just kind of fades into the storyline as whole. Which is fine you know. With a series that has been going on for as long as this one has it's bound to happen. What I really got out of this book is that I want to go back and re-read the warriors books. I miss those characters. I loved that they were involved in this book.
Our main characters were Anson and Devon. Devon worked for the company that was responsible for attacks to the Dragon Kings and their mates in the past and the company has information on all of the Kings. They talk Devon into helping them find out how they got that information. Devon agrees because she had no idea the company she worked for was evil. Anson is kind of her body guard and they fall in love.
Really that's about all that happens. It's kind of the same story as a lot of the other books. And again that is totally fine! Because it was still an enjoyable story but I am ready for more things to happen in the series plot line. This book felt like a filler. And I am pretty sure I said that about the last book as well. So it's time for some action to happen.
Will I read the next one? Hell freaking yes I will. I am completely obsessed with theses characters. I love the warriors, the druids and the Kings!
Blaze by Donna Grant
Dark King #11
In the complex entertaining supernatural paranormal world created by Donna Grant there are dragons, fae, druids and more. In the Dark Kings series the dragon kings are featured and though I came in on book 10 and missed out on much I find I can read the books as they come out and not feel I need to have read the previous ones. That said, I do hope to find and read each one of them at some point in the future.
In this book the two main characters are Anson, dragon king of the browns, and his mate-to-be, Devon. Devon works at Kyvor, a business that the dragons want to get information from. Two women from past books in the series are working to ally Devon with their cause and Anson is there as their bodyguard. The novel is action-packed and includes spying, kidnapping, bad guys, fights, attempted rape, torture, friends that come to the rescue, romance and a bit of backstory, some catching up with major players not necessarily part of this book and preludes to what may be coming next. There are a number of characters still waiting for their stories to be told and I am eager to find out what will happen to all of them.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars
The timeline in Blaze overlaps some with Paris and Dmitri’s stories so Anson really does not know what has happened with those two and their mates. We are in London with Anson, Esther and Kenzi investigating Kyvor. The company that somehow has a Druid that messed with Esther and Kenzi’s minds. They also totally invaded Kenzi’s life and privacy in trying to capture Ryder.
A lot of pieces are starting to come together in Blaze. The possibility that all may not be Ulrick’s doing, and that there is someone that is impersonating him starts to enter the equation for the Kings. Things are not going according to anyone’s plans anymore since Mikkel has discovered Ulrick’s secret and in turn Ulrick learns of Mikkel’s Druid. The odds are starting to look kind of scary as to just what Mikkel is going to be able to do to Ulrick. This Druid is scary as the Druids of MacCloud Castle will attest. She has powers that are unheard of.
Devon is a great, independent woman. Loving her job and dabbling in the dating world. She reads a hilarious dating blog that even shows up at the end of the book so I’m kind of curious as to who is actually behind the blog. It may have nothing to do with the Kings and their world, but she sounds like quite the character and I think she’d fit in nicely with the family at Draegan!
Devon doesn’t believe in the magic at first but quickly gets introduced and is forced to accept that the man she is interested in is a dragon. It takes her some thinking, but she gets so overwhelmed by all the other magic, she is can’t help but just deal and finds that she actually has fallen in love with Anson, even in his brown dragon form.
Anson is sick to death of the no-fly rule and hiding from the humans. I felt like he was dangerous to have out since he didn’t really want to to try too hard to hide his true form. Even in front of humans. When he is trapped his choices are limited and even though he is falling into Kyvor’s plans, he shifts. Much to Kyvor’s delight. But, Kyvor is acting on assurances of protection from Mikkel and the Druid. He doesn’t seem to be the most confident CEO at times.
I was really scared that Devon was going to get the same forced treatment from the Dark that Denae received. The Dark Fae really creep me out and their powers of seduction and death are just wrong. Even if the woman does not understand what is happening to her, it just really freaks me out. Devon needed protection from them at all costs.
Bringing in this Druid to the story is adding another enemy and more danger to this war. Blaze seemed to build up more towards the final war than the previous books but we are left with a LOT of questions. We still have the wooden horse. Mikkel and Ulrick as well as Tareath and Balladin also have issues to be resolved. The web is getting tighter and every little bit of information may be a tipping point to all the tension that is hanging in the air. Explosions are a hair trigger away and battles are coming sooner rather than later.
I’m so wrapped into this series now. I’m dying to know what is going to happen to all these threads we have open. OH and we seem to be getting SO close to knowing who Rhi’s King is! I thought for sure that nugget was going to be outted, only to be disappointed. So close! This is why I love this world. Not only do we have the main couple of the book, but there are so many threads building that I feel pulled completely pulled into the story trying to puzzle out what the next moves on the board will be.
Blaze did not disappoint and I’m thrilled with how intricate this overall war arc has become. Some things tying together while others are keeping me guessing. I love that Con got caught up on mating ceremonies in this book as I fear the mates are going to need their immortality soon. Con’s attitude towards the mates has improved greatly and he has finally accepted that the Kings need their mates. They have all become family and Con is enjoying the feeling of them all together as well. It’s nice that the Kings don’t have to worry about his disapproval. Not that they really cared once they found their mates!
We still have a few mates that are flying solo, and I’m not sure if we are going to see them mate before hell breaks loose on the Kings. We do have relationship issues that need addressed and I hope they resolve peacefully. So much is happening, I’m dying for the next book to be released already!

Donna's books are to die for and I would recommend the series to any lover of amazingly well written paranormal romance with a bit of an edgy twist here and there.

Well done Donna and many thanks for the opportunity

This is the eleventh book in the Dark Kings series and it's an amazing series that I've become addicted to! I am a huge fan of the paranormal genre and am always searching for a great story in this category. I especially love fantastic stories written about powerful dragons that find their mates and this series has it all!
This is Anson and Devon's story and this was by far one of my personal favorites in this series so far! Anson is a dragon king and is on an important mission that will help to save his people and the world when he crosses paths with Devon. She is working for the company that Anson is attempting to find out information from and as a result, she ends up getting pulled deep into a world that she had no idea even existed.
I love how each of the stories in this series pulls you in and makes the world around you cease to exist while you're submerged deep within its pages. Whenever I read a book by this author I find that I not only don't want to put it down, but that I never want it to end!
I highly recommend this entire series to anyone to read and I hope to see much more from this amazing author in the future!
Blaze by Donna Grant is Book 11 of the Dark Kings Series and is fanfreakingtastic! This is Anson and Devon’s story. Ms. Grant knocks it out of the park once again with Blaze. This read is a delightful, gripping paranormal romance that will keep you spellbound until the very end with its twists and turns, defined world building, fantab characters, marvelous writing and kicking storyline.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
Post goes live 8 JUNE
I will confess I was a bit reluctant to read Anson’s story. All I knew about him was that he once supported Ulrik in his quest to destroy humans and that he was overly occupied with his need to find his sword. However, I decided to give the guy a chance since he did go back to Dreagan and he didn’t rejoin Ulrik. Plus, I needed to know what was happening with my girl, Rhi, so I jumped into Blaze head first ready to find out where all my favorite characters were at and to learn more about the Dragon King named Anson.
Anson won me over quickly and destroyed my reluctance with how protective he was with Kinsey, Esther and Devon. Devon also really brought out the better side of Anson. Their unexpected magical melding was a great addition to their love story. Devon is probably one of the most interesting mates we have met so far in the series. I’m hoping she is able to tap more into her ancestral connection to Druid Warriors and become one herself. It would be awesome to have her fighting combat wise alongside the Dragons without Anson’s direction. Speaking of warrior mates that scene with Esther and Nikolai. I’m not going to delve too far into it but I cannot wait to read which direction that budding friendship turns as well as Henry’s reaction to it.
Rhi, Oh Rhi, just when I give up on any notion that perhaps Con and Rhi aren’t meant to be together, new information is revealed and Con goes and changes my mind about the entire situation. Those two are frustrating. Yet I cannot get enough of them. When those two finally get back together (they better get back together!!) I am going to cheer and celebrate with a big glass of wine. Rhi deserves to have the love of her life and finally come into her own as the powerful leader of the Light that she is obviously meant to be.
This book was an exciting ride with the introduction of a mysterious and powerful new baddie Druid. It is the eleventh book in an ongoing series so the book contains a large cast of characters and connects to a larger plot but it is a good stand-alone romance. However, if you do want to know more about the world of Dragon Kings, dark and light fae, ancient Gods, chosen warriors and Druids I encourage you to read not only the other books in this series but Donna Grant’s other series which provide further detailed stories of some of the group of characters lightly touched on the Dragon King Series. Have fun reading. You will enjoy the ride Grant takes you on in each story and you will appreciate the magic of her storytelling. Anson and Devon will woo you and you won’t regret giving the Dragon King and his mate a chance to entertain you.
The war between the Dragon Kings and the Dark Fae continues in the Dark kings saga as the Dragon Kings try to put an end to the war and bring peace with the mortals. And as each Dragon King falls victim to the game of love, they have more to lose now than ever.
As the plot thickens and the secret of the Dragon Kings existence is blown open, Anson is tasked with infiltrating the company that has been leaking their secrets and trying to convince one of the top personnel, Devon Abrams to cooperate has been a hardship on his heart.
As Devon and Anson give into their desire, getting kidnapped was not in their plan of action. As they battle the evils with their allies, slivers of secrets seem to burst open in this constant battle of revenge…. secrets that may lead to devastation. Yet in the midst of this mayhem, the “Blaze” of love is a welcome respite as the Dragon Kings mate with their forever.
I love the way Donna Grant has been leading this story, giving the Dragon Kings some love, yet keeping the crux of the plot very open with glimpses of what the future might be, slivers of secrets among the powers of the universe, a see-saw of emotions as foes are separated from allies, and courage and fears are put to the test.
“Blaze” has opened up some secrets and the plot thickens with suspense and anticipation as to what the next book would reveal.
BLAZE is an amazing and thrilling offering by author Donna Grant. Every time I read about her Dark Kings, her gorgeous dragon kings, I am on pins and needles needing to see what happens next. There are always a number of small plots that stream through all the series but each book is centered on one couple. This is Anson and Devon's story and what a story it is. Anson does his best to fight the attraction and Devon, who seems so confident in herself, is at a loss with her thoughts of Anson. I enjoyed the twists and turns that take place and the truths that have a way of coming out when you least expect it. We visit again the dark Fae's world, deal with Rhi and her complications, the Warriors and Druids play a large part in this storyline and, of course, we get to touch base with Ulrik and get to be confused by his actions, again. I have to admit that I love this world and can't wait for the next one.
If you love sexy dragons, strong women who are willing to fight with and for their lovers, danger, intrigue and of course hot and steamy love then BLAZE will fit that bill beautifully.

There is a new player and this druid is very strong and no one knows why she is here now. Anson has been given the task of looking after a human that needs their help but he really doesn't like humans as they destroyed his family & he only has the kings now. So he isn't happy but Con has asked him to do this and as A king of the Browns he will do it. Devon can't understand why she is been watched and when she learns the reason she is angry & upset. She has worked really hard to work her way up in the company so when she hears how they have been spying on her so agrees to help the Kings. But someone wants Anson and they know that him & Devon are seeing each other so she will be used as bait. Anson knows he will do anything for Devon as she has stolen his heart and if that means loisng his life then he will happy with that. But the Kings aren't just going to give up, Rhi knows where to go and she fears that it might be too late already. Can Devon find her man before it is too late? Ulrik has now made a new friend in Balladyn it is time to end the fun and show everyone who is boss. Will Rhi ever find peace she is so miserbale even though she tries to hide it. How long with V stay for until he goes off again, his story is going to be very interesting.
I enjoyed the book, but would like to see some of the story threads have a resolution. I would hate to have to wait many books later before finding out how some of the storylines end. Too much up in the air.

Anson is a Dragon King who fought beside Ulrik in the Great War centuries ago--to end all humanity. When he saw that the war wasn't helping his beloved brown dragons survive, he flipped sides and joined Constantine to build the dragon bridge and send his dragons to another, hopefully safer, realm.
Now, his existence, and that of all the Dragon Kings, has been revealed to the human race again, and Kyvor Inc, a tech conglomerate, seems to be at the root of their troubles. We encountered Kyvor's trickery in SMOKE AND FIRE when Kinsey returned to Ryder--this time at Dreagon Distillery, the home base for all the Dragon Kings. Now, Anson is tasked with helping Kinsey infiltrate her old company, to see who knows what, and how they found out about the Dragon Kings.
Kinsey has identified a possible confederate, Devon Abrams, an up-and-comer at Kyvor who has no idea she's been shadowed by Kyvor agents for a long time. Anson's struck by Devon's beauty and fierceness--and inexplicably wants to protect her almost from the get-go. Is this the pull of a true mate? he wonders...
So, this book is a ramp up to the large showdown. That means there are many points of view all bringing the end of the story into alignment. For this reason, I would not recommend picking up this book first, if you are intrigued by the series. You really need to go back closer to the beginning because it's choppy and confusing if you haven't met any of the players before now. This book is a lovestory for Anson, but it's less fixed on his romance than I would have liked. Devon is a good lead for him, but they don't have much time to make a connection before they are both captured and tortured. The goal here is to get Anson to reveal his powers, and he's all too happy to do this, because, well, he has little love for humanity in any case.
For the first time Dragon Kings learn that their main adversary isn't Ulrik--but also his scheming uncle. And, the forces are marshalled to bring down the ultra-powerful Druid that nobody knew anything about--except the bad guys.
As a romance, BLAZE a little too cluttered with the long-range plot arcs of the series, for me. I really like to experience that high of meeting and falling, and it felt too convenient and too rushed--and too interrupted for me to really latch on. The ending climax is really intense though, and I'm still anxious to see what happens between Constantine, Ulrik, Rhi, and all the other characters--as well as the human mates of the Dragon Kings. So, I'll look forward to the next book, too. I received a review copy via NetGalley.
I enjoyed this book. Paranormal books are always fun and great to read. The beginning was a little bit slow but once the story started flowing it was very good.!
It was really nice going back to the Dark Kings world, I don’t why but I kind of stopped reading them around book 4 I think, anyways reading this one made me really want to go back and read the ones I didn’t and read the Druids series (Dark Sword/Dark Warrior) because I realised I had missed them. It also has made me really curious about the reapers series which I have not yet read.
Anson is the Dragon King of the brown dragons, with his current job to well babysit two women on a mission to bring down Kyvor, a tech company that might be working with the enemy of the dragon kings and is involved in some shady things happened in the past at Dreagan.
Devon Abrams is a human working at Kyvor, she completely happy with her life (yes she does miss having someone to love but she’s happy with what she has) and she loves her job. Finding out that Kyvor is not at all what it seems and getting those rose coloured glasses ripped away, Devon decides to help Anson and his friends and bring down Kyvor.
I really liked Anson and Devon, who wouldn’t? They were great characters and had strong personalities. Anson is of course an alpha hero, he’s protective, loyal and possessive of Devon. Devon similarly when she found out what Kyvor were doing, she wanted to get to the bottom of it even if it meant putting herself in danger and I admired her determination. Devon and Anson are attracted to each other from the get go but how can a human and Dragon king be together especially with all those enemies trying to get to them.??
I liked how their relationship gets build up, they had great chemistry and they worked really well together!
The danger is nigh in this book, with the enemies of Dragon Kings; Ulrick and Mikkel having their own struggle with each other and ofcourse fae who seems to be really involved everything. There are still loads of questions to be answered after this book but the end it seems is nearing. I would really like to know more about Rhi and her Dragon King (I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHO IT IS??!) and how dragon kings will defeat the fae and Mikkel and maybe Ulrick will get his own happy ending who knows??
While I think it would be okay to read it as a standalone, it would just be a great read if the reader is already familiar with the world, storyline and the characters because the cast of this series includes other series characters as well so it would just be better/more enyoyable if one’s familiar with them.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one and since I need some answers I will definitely be checking out the next book!
With each addition to this series more and more secrets are revealed about the Dragon Kings. This story is full of drama and suspense and I will admit I love this series. Anson and Devon’s story is excellent full of drama and suspense and the amazing of the charts hot chemistry. Looking forward to more in this amazing series!
