Another Donna Grant winner. Good book, good characters. Amazing read!
I always dread reading the newest book in this series. I hate having to wait for the next but once I get started I just get enveloped in this world and fly through it.
This book takes place alongside book 10 timewise. It connects with other events and makes things click together.
Anson is out on a mission with Kinsey and Esther to take down a company called Kyvor. They chose someone who is moving up in the ranks and believe would care enough to help them. That person is Devon.
Devon has worked hard to get where she is and has always believed in what she was doing. Until the three pop up and show her otherwise. Dragged into the world of magic she has no other choice but to follow her curiosity and see where it takes her.
It takes her to Druids, Warriors, Fae, and of course the Dragon Kings. Her world is tossed upside down and all her beliefs are shattered and pieces together differently. Now that her eyes have been opened to a new world, she never wants to close them.
As per usual, we get answers and then more questions. The game is getting more intense now that the Warriors are being brought back in to play! There is definitely a storm brewing now that Balladyn and Ulrik are done playing around. Things are getting real and I'm pumped for whatever is coming our way!
*side note... Rhi's King is so damn close yet so far. Nuff said.
Dark and sinister shapeshifting dragon? Check. Strong and independent woman? Check. Magic, Fae and deceit and betrayal? Check.
So, a lot of ingredients to make a wonderful read. And it was, definitely. But... (you could feel the but coming, right?) Although it was a great story in the Big-Brother-is-watching-you kind of way, the story was probably easier to get into, when you had read the rest of the series. Since I hadn't read any of the previous Dark King stories (10 in all), I just kind of fell face forward into a pool of old enemies, dark relationships and old grudges.
So, it was not always easy to understand why dragons and fae don't get along and why Ansons is set on getting infiltrated in Kyvor. We also meet Devon, a gorgeous woman, driven to be the best in her company. When she finds out that Kyvor has been tracking her movements and her work, she gets scared. Although she works at a security company, she would never have guessed that they would use the advanced technologies on their own employers. But why are they following her? And what does Anson have to do with this?
When Anson explains her about the magical world, she does not believe him. Surely, she is attracted to him, but fae and magical creatures? Not in Devon's book. So, unsure of who to believe, Devon is torn between helping Anson and his friends or being loyal to the company where she has been working for years.
But time is running out, and people (or other beings) are making a play. So Anson and Devon have to decide quickly who to trust. After the first encounters with all the characters, the story unfolds with twist and turns. So, after the big BUT in the beginning of the story, hang on for the ride. It is a wonderful ride. Maybe I'll read this one again after I've read the first 10 parts of the Dark King series. Four out of five stars from me. And a thank you to St. Martin's for the ARC.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Anson is a shapeshifter, a Dragon King. Dragons have been around longer than man. Someone is out to hurt the dragons and it is felt that a company called Kyvor is involved. Kyvor has already hurt others to get to the dragons...
Devon loves working at Kyvor. She is determined to move up through the company, maybe even become the first female executive, so she works relentlessly. The only thing missing from her life is companionship.
Anson is at Kyvor to protect Kinsey and Esther, who are trying to get info on who there is trying to hurt the Dragons. Both Kinsey and Esther are victims of those in Kyvor, losing memories of what happened there. The ladies feel that Devon would be a good "insider" and help them gain information. They approach her but she doesn't believe them until they tell her their story. Anson doesn't add much, especially the fact that he is a shapeshifting Dragon! She agrees to help.
The attraction grows between Anson and Devon and they give into it. Now Anson has to protect the 3 ladies and isn't happy about Devon being without protection in the building. His instinct is right because someone else is watching Devon....
Will Anson be able to keep Devon safe? How will she react when she finds he is a dragon? Will love win out? Will they get any answers about who is out to get the Dragons?
Devon learns a lot more than she ever thought she would. Dragons? Dark and Light Fae? Kill all humans?
Devon is abducted but they really want Anson. Anson will do anything to save Devon, even sacrifice his life. Devon and Anson must fight together if they are to survive.
This story has twists and turns galore. It's hard to comment on it though because I don't want to give anything away. I did like the story, as I have enjoyed many of Donna's books.
BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY!!!
This is not an everyday genre for me to read. So , I was not so very excited to get the arc. I would of missed one of the absolute best paranormal books I have read this year! From page one until the final page, I did not lay the book down. I walked around the house with my kindle. I answered the phone while reading and put people off. My husband laughed at me when I bribed him to fix dinner for the two of us.... (Instead he bought pizza!). I am going to back up and get every one of this series and read through for I so enjoyed this book. The way it was written was enthralling and this author has the way of building the story in your mind and making you a part of it while you are reading along. It is definitely one of the best I have read this month! So if you are looking for an absolutely fantastic hands down Great Read, then buy this book! I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna
How FANTASTIC is this book??? What a series. I love all of the characters, the cameos from the other interwoven series - everything. WHO IS THE KING?? Please put me out of my misery and tell us :) Anson and Devon are a lovely couple and their story is a great addition to the franchise. I wonder what's going on with Usaeil. Oh I so want the next one ASAP.
I enjoyed this book. I'll have a review up on release week!
Well I admit I almost gave up on this series but I'm really glad I've persevered. We all know that Ulrik is still out there plotting his revenge on Con the King of Kings and he's managed to involve the Dark Fae but they are slippery creatures whose alliances can change faster than the wind. However he's not the only one with plans in motion and that's were this book comes to life.
Devon is determined to rise to the top and her ambition has taken her pretty far up the ranks at Kyvor but she has no idea that the company she works for has a habit of removing any and all who oppose them. Well that is until she starts receiving cryptic messages and then meets Anson who is Devons idea of the perfect man except unbeknown to her he really isn't a man at all! Devon may be a workaholic but she's no simpleton and when she starts trying to delve deeper she gets caught up in a world of magic and obsession . Anson needs to discover who is pulling the strings behind Kyvor and stop their interference in the lives the Dragon Kings have so carefully cultivated but he never expected to feel so protective of one human woman. A woman who turns out to be far more important than the Dragon Kings realised !
Ok this story has the two lead characters happily enjoying their sizzling chemistry and to this reader it felt a little too immediate but then they have both been lonely so ok let happy times commence! This author always writes scorching romances but it's her constantly evolving work that keeps me entertained. I've enjoyed the way her Reaper series connects with these stories but now there's signs of her Dark Warriors and Dark Sword characters also being added to the mixture. Clearly a joy for longtime fans but also a treat for newer ones as its enriching the world building no end. If you enjoy her Dragons then seeing Druids, Immortal Warriors and even Gods get involved will surely leave you bouncing in your seat. Yes this series is certainly hotting up as secrets start to be revealed . Everyone's favourite Fae Rhi, is still torturing readers with "her King" but guess what ? He's not that far away ! Hmm I do have my suspicions but my lips are sealed. I would have liked more of a resolution as honestly apart from the mating I just didn't think there was any real progression here but yes I'm still very likely to read the next book.
A copy of this was provided for me with no requirement to review. I've voluntarily read it and these thoughts and comments are I believe a fair opinion
Another great read from Donna Grant with turbulent ups and downs that had me undeniably hooked throughout the entire thing.
This is the 11th installment in the Dark King series by Donna Grant. I highly recommend that you read the previous books before starting this book as they all tie together on one main story arc. Anson is a dragon king that has been sent to London to try to make bring down an enemy company, and hopefully have help to do it. Devon is the person they ask for help to bring them down. She works for the tech company and is higher ranking. She is thought to be someone they will think is trustworthy. Little do either of them know that this company already had it's own plans for her! I loved Anson! The way he is described and just his emotions towards humans in general are all completely understandable! I like how his past is gone into and explains not only his original actions but then explains his later decisions. Devon is also a likable character and you feel for her from the start. Especially when you find out what happened to her as a teen. Throw them together? Explosive chemistry! The fact that they are both so protective of each other, especially Devon after not even knowing about their world and being thrown into it. And then you have more pieces of the puzzle of Ulrik? Add in some characters from not only other books in this series but from one of her other series and you have a must read book. I loved every step of the journey in this book! I can't wait for the next installment!
Blaze is book 11 in the dark king series, unfortunately I had not read any of the previous books so came to this book with no prior knowledge or background information so was totally confused to begin with. What with Dragon shifters, immortals, Fae and lots of magic my head was spinning, but it soon settled into a great story of Anson a dragon king and Devon an 'ordinary' human.
Devon is slap bang in the middle of a secret war between the sinister Fae and the dragon kings. As the story unfolds Devon is drawn into this dangerous world as Anson needs her help but wants to protect her and so develops a passionate relationship.
Although this book can be read as a standalone I would have enjoyed it a lot more without my initial confusion, but it has introduced me to a cracking series so I will definitely be starting book 1 soon.
Thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book
I'm a huge fan of the Dark King series by DG. This one is Anson and Devon's story. Another dragon king finds his mate. The war with the dark fae is still going on. Anson goes to Kyvor with Kinsey and Esther to meet Devon and get her to their side. The story is interesting and well written. I love seeing each king meet his match. However the story does not progress in this release. I would call this a "bridge" book. None of the open threads are resolved or revealed and not much happens in this one to progress the story further. We still don't know who Rhi's king is but I think we can all guess who it is at this point. This story line has been dragged out to long. I'm ready to move the story along so I'm hoping the next release does. The epilogue hints that this might be the case. I hope so.
Even though not much happens I recommend reading this one if your a fan of the series. It still a great read and it was nice seeing all the kings again. I'm ready for V's, Con's, Ulrik's and Balladyn's story. And who is the new mystery blog writer? Looking forward to finding out.
Love, love, love Donnas dragon series. If I could give them more than five stars I would. She pulls you so fast into their word your left holding your breath and unable to put the book down. I love the strong characters and even stronger plotline. Everything gets explained and nothing is left hanging in the air. The romance is hot, controlling and leaves you panting for more. Donna is a must read.
I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for a fair review. I live Donna Grant books and Blaze is another great example of why she is a best seller. Anson is.fierceand protective of those he calls family. Devon has nothing in her life but her job but when a sexy man with midnight eyes shows her the evils of the company she works for she is forced to reconsider all she knows. she is swept up in danger, passion and omg Dragons! How much is a girl supposed to take? Fun story. only negative is the cliff hangers at the end of every book with more questions and no answers.
