this was an okay story. I love the illustrations and how bright and colorful they are. I also love the simplicity of the pictures but the story was the same kind of story as 5 other books about a bat

I am Bat by Morag Hood is a picturebook about a bat who is a little grumpy, and very protective of his cherries. When they start going missing the bat searches for the thief, even blaming the reader. As he searches he discovers that cherries are not the only delicious fruit available.

I am Bat is a cute picturebook about a grumpy little bat afraid that his favorite foods will disappear. When he finds cherries gone he is desperate to find the cherries, and the culprit. I loved his reluctant admission that he likes pears too, when that option appears. The art is simply but bold, and reminds me of the art on Gravett's picturebooks (which is a good thing). It is a short, simply, fun read that plays well for a short read aloud while being simple enough for independent reading for the littles as well.

Was really looking forward to reading this with my daughter, but the words and pictures were often jumbled together, making it difficult to read.

A kind of cute, very simple story. Simple in plot, simple in illustration style. Its easily understood entertainment. And a good one to use to introduce visual interpretation, the integration of text and illustration.

I love the simplicity of this book. I can easily hear it being read in my own child's voice and see her acting out and reciting the text as she does with Elephant and Piggie books. The illustrations are wonderful and evoke the bat's emotions perfectly. A wonderful book for younger readers.

Okay, honestly, I got low expectation for this book as the cover not really appealing. I just request it for light read.

And well, it was a light read and also a fun read.

The illustrations very simple but attractive. The story is only about how Bat loves cherries and so sad when missed it. But well...

You got to read it! I believe kids would see it entertaining too

One of my favorite picture books this year. Bat is adorable. And he loves cherries. DO NOT TAKE HIS CHERRIES. He is quite serious about this, so you can imagine his distress when his cherries start disappearing! The reader's clued in, naturally - we see paws and ants sneaking cherries out of the book's margins while Bat stares at us, demanding to know what's going on. The animals leave him a pear, which Bat embraces - and the story is ready to begin again. There's bold, black fonts to make for expressive storytime reading, and Bat and Friends are just too much fun to read and play along with. Absolutely delightful storytime reading; just make sure you read this one before you get it in front of your group: you will squeal with glee the first couple of times you read it. Print out bat masks for the kids to color in as part of your storytime craft.

This was completely adorable. I clicked on it just because of the title and the cover art. I think kids will get a kick out of this!

Bat is a grumpy character, who states that he does not like mornings, but likes cherries. Bat guards his cherries, but when he puts them down they begin to disappear. His expressions are wonderful. We see other animals eating the cherries at the top of the page. When they leave him other fruit in exchange, he realizes that he likes fruit in general. A nice way to show children that if you taste food, you may find you like other things.

The illustrations were colourful and show expressions well. The story is adorable, especially for JK/SK classrooms. It is a picture book appropriate for ages 4 and up. I would recommend this book to schools, kindergarten classrooms and family libraries.

I wished I loved this story more, but it fell a bit flat for me. Bat is crazy about cherries, and very protective of them, but when some cherries disappear and are replaced by a pear, he can be just as crazy and protective of the pear, instead.

I wish the bat had been either cuter or more realistic, and that the story had some sort of message or lesson or something other than a brief chuckle at how quickly Bat decides that the pear is an acceptable alternative to his beloved cherries.

"I am bat. I do not like mornings." (I don't either!)
" I like cherries. They are my favorite of all things." (Same here! WOW!!)

There is an especially cute illustration of bat guarding some cherries. I resemble this illustration when I have cherries. Bat and I have a lot in common it seems.

I think this was adorable! As a teacher of preschool and elementary aged children, I highly recommend it. It is a picture book appropriate for ages 4 and up. I am certain all the kids I work with would eat it up. Just like I would cherries. And other fruit. Bat likes fruit. So do I!

Thank you Sourcebooks for a digital copy to read for a review. I greatly enjoyed it. Hope to purchase a classroom copy as I am sure it will be read often.

Fun children's book. Bat is a little protective and a little grumpy. I think kids will definitely enjoy this read. Especially if the reader has fun with bat's character and voice in the story. He has a bunch of cherries he is protecting and warns the reader not to touch his cherries. When he sets them down, they start to disappear. Who is taking the cherries? Will bat behind to find out who the culprits are? I enjoyed the illustrations, bat was expressive in his different moods and the bright colors will appeal to young reader's for sure. At the end, he doesn't quite find what he is looking for but I could see this turning into a series with bat searching for his lost 'items'.

I received a copy from the publisher, SOURCEBOOKS Jabberwocky, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

A grumpy bat loves his cherries. They are juicy. They are delicious. And you better not take them! So what happens when someone does take his cherries?

Kids will love I Am Bat. From its opinionated main character to the illustrations to Bat talking directly at them - kids will laugh at this cherry obsessed bat's antics.

Who is taking bat's cherries? Children will be delighted to be in on the secret as they flip through the pages of this great storytime book that has easy to read sentences and bright pictures with a vintage feel.

I am Bat is an adorably simple book about a bat that loves cherries. The text is short and easy to read and the images are large and bright. The little bat is the main character and he dislikes some things and loves others - cherries being the main thing. He is grumpy and a little nasty to the reader and very possessive over his cherries, he even blames the reader when they go missing, but other cute things happen and he is ok again.

I think this could be a fun book to use for interactive reading - the stealing of the cherries lends itself to 'where did they go?' 'who took them?' questions that can be posed to young listeners to the story. It is a chance to learn about both animals and fruits but also why sharing is important.

Overall this was a very endearing book and I thought the little grumpy bat was very funny.

I am Bat by Morag Hood is a simple picture book. There are many things children will enjoy about it. The main character, Bat, is grumpy and selfish with his food, but he is adorable. The illustrations are cute and the reader ends up liking this grumpy little bat. The drawings are simple, but are done well. The book touches on fruit, colors, feelings, and hints at friends.

I give this story 4/5 stars.

I received this book from Sourcebooks Jabberwocky via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this book had more potential, especially in the way of becoming a counting book.

Adorable drawings - of a bat no less. Really cute story line, how many children and adults have said this is mine and don't touch it. But then somehow someone takes it all, but oh - look - there is something else that catches the eye and once again - all mine, don't touch. I nominated this for Library reads - for a couple reasons - it can open a dialogue abouit parenting, dealing with 'selfish' kids, and it's just so darn cute and fun, I think everyone would get a lift from reading it ( even bat haters). I love this book

I Am Bat is a picture book about a bat who likes cherries. He doesn't want to share, but they mysteriously disappear anyway. Then, he gets a surprise. This book is wonderfully cute in concept, pictures, and wording. Touches on fruit, colors, feelings, and hints at friends. Color combinations and illustrations are great. I hope the author writes more adventures for Bat. Looking forward to recommending this book at the library!
