'Suit Your Selfie: A Pearls Before Swine Collection' written and drawn by Stephan Pastis is a collection of hilarious comic strips with some pretty bad puns included.
Poor pig is the innocent butt of rat's jokes. The crocodiles are still trying to have their zebra neighbor over for dinner. The cartoonist himself shows up to provide really bad puns. There are some pop culture jokes and quite a few about technology.
I really like this comic strip and the humor seems to stay pretty consistent. The art is good for a strip and the topics feel pretty current. I have read a few of these and I always enjoy them.

This book tells several stories that happen in the Pearls Before Swine universe.
The characters are the same as always and the stories feel the same. Some are funny, a lot aren't.
Either way, it's a short read that, if you have time to spare and don't mind reading an okay book, you can read this.
Long a Pearls Before Swine fan (love Rat, Goat, Pig, Zebra, and the befuddled Crocodiles, especially when any of them interact with author Pastis's hand-drawn version of himself!), it was with eager anticipation that I started this super-sized (176 pages) collection of the sarcastic, punny, even quite witty comic (even politically aware) strip. That said, as opposed to trying to breeze through the book in one marathon run - like ice cream, sometimes too much a good thing for me - Suit Your Selfie is the kind of collection you want to keep by your bedside, every night forgetting the more negative events of the day before going to bed by laughing (often out loud) at Rat's snarkasm, Pig's naivete, or the never-ending battle of Mr. Crocodile to catch and eat Mr. "Zeeba". Like visiting old friends again, even the less-funny entries here will keep you entertained between the punches of laugh-out loud liberally interspersed throughout, and any fan of the original strip will be happily reminded, over and over, of the artwork, characterizations and humorous cynicism that made you a fan in the first place. 4/5 stars
Note: I received a free ARC of this title via NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
This graphic novel is about Rat, Pig, Goat and other animals. It is about their daily life and it is quite funny.
I've already read some books of this series but I don't consider that it is needed to enjoy this one.
There's not much I can say about this book, just that it was funny and silly, just like I remember.
If you enjoy humorous graphic novels, you can try this series. I prefer the older volumes but it might be just because they were the first ones I read.
Pearls Before Swine is one of my favorite modern comic strips. This collection is no exception. Stephan Pastis' collection of characters is funny, quirky and silly. I don't laugh out loud reading many strips, but this one has me "lol-ing" often.
Pearls Before Swine never disappoints. Hilarious, punny, and utterly original. I can never get enough.
I am a big fan of the comic strip Pearls Before Swine. Stephan Pastis has created a world with wonder, innocence, friendship, and a lot of laughs. There is also selfishness, malice, evil, and really bad elaborate puns, but like in life, the good outweighs the bad. And so it is with Suit Your Selfie, the fifth compilation of Pearls Before Swine created with middle schoolers in mind. What does that mean? It means that these comics are hilarious, honest, and fun for the whole family.
Follow along as Pig finds the key to happiness, as Goat starts a blog, and as Zebra dresses as a unicorn to throw the crocodiles off their game. And through it all, Rat keeps track of everything that happens and the writer appears with his puns and pajamas in the midst of his mid-life crisis.
The sweetness of Pig against the self-interest of Rat, the vulnerability and intelligence of Zebra shown against the fierceness and simple-mindedness of the crocodiles--it makes for an interesting and realistic depiction of life's relationships and gives readers a chance to step back from daily life and see our problems through a different lens. If you are getting this for a middle schooler, it could offer a way into difficult discussions of bullying, friendships, and hard choices.
It's also really, really funny.
If you're a fan of Pearls Before Swine, if you're looking for a good book you can share with your kids, or if you just love to laugh, then check out Suit Your Selfie, or any of Stephan Pastis' Perals Before Swine books. They will be worth your time. Pig said so.
Galleys for Suit Your Selfie were provided by Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley.com, with many thanks.
I'm a fan of Pearls Before Swine. It's sharply funny - puns, cultural and psychological observations. I don't understand marketing it to kids. Sure, the strips have been carefully selected to weed out any taht refer to alcohol, suicide, or violence. That doesn't mean kids will get them, That aside, this collection is certainly up to Pastis's standard.
It's a funny book. There are many different stories about job interviews, selling stuff, and using technology. As always, the characters are cute and endearing. Middle grade readers will enjoy this book.
An entertaining & funny read perfect for breaks from work and life. This book had me laughing and even reading out loud to my family! Page 154 was my favorite and had me laughing like crazy. I definitely recommend this book for anybody looking for a laugh!
Laugh Out Loud Fun
Tons of fun with Pig, Rat, Goat, Zebra and the Crocs, as well as a few appearances of the Lemmings. Anyone who enjoys reading the comic strip Pearls Before Swine will love this collection. Gotta say, my favorites will always be the ones that include Zebra and the Crocs adventures.
I loved Pearls Before Swine as a kid, so I was pretty interested in getting this and seeing how it held up for me, but I can't say that it lived up to my memories. Either it just isn't suited for my sense of humor anymore, or Stephan has lost his touch, but it was mostly just one overdone pun or one-liner after another. I do still love the crocodile strips, though.
Shut mouf, woomun. Shut mouf.
I thought this was a fun, easy to breeze through compilation with cute illustrations. Personally, I wasn't really familiar with the author/artist, so I didn't go in to reading it with any real expectations. I smiled and even snickered at a number of the comics within this collection. My 13 year old checked out several of them, yet while she seemed to enjoy some others definitely went right over her head. In that regard it strikes me as a book geared less towards kids than towards adults. I have to say I got a kick out of the jabs Pastis made at today's technology obsessions. The crazy huge phone and the cellphone selfies vs traditional cameras were especially funny. So, yeah, I don't know that, as a whole, the humor was strong enough to warrant a higher rating, but I'd give Suit Your Selfie a solid 3 stars.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the review opportunity.
I’m not a follower of this comic but I have seen several over the years that friends have shared over social media. There are running gags about breaking the fourth wall that are amusing and certainly self-depreciating to the creator. This comic is read for the jokes and not for any amazing graphics but it is well worth the read.
A great very cute book for children. It could be a new hit, my children loved it!!
This book is exactly as the blurb says - a whole host of comic strips features jokes and puns, some more cringe-worthy than others. The jokes are fun and the illustrations too. Some of the strips cover just a page, and others several, meaning that you can read a couple of the strips in one go, or read the whole book. It's a good book to pick up and flick through. The only downside for me was on some of the strips the text had very minimal spacing between the letters, making it look 'squished' and therefore not as easy to read.
Suit your Selfie is a Pearls Before Swine collection of 1-2 page comic strips following a grouping of wacky animal characters and their lives. There is Rat, Pig, and Goat as the mail characters but also Zebra and Crocodiles as well, even the cartoonist makes appearances.
These comic strips are laugh out loud funny but aimed at a younger audience than me - still funny though. Some of the panels hit really close-to-home and they are either very realistic events or quite crazy ones. For example, explaining a corded phone to the younger generation (hint: it really freaks them out), or a zebra running around as a unicorn and scaring crocodiles.
There were some life lessons, and notes about happiness, but many involved pizza - but that is the answer anyway right?! It was a great collection, I think younger readers will enjoy the humor in it, I did too, so this is a good one for many. If you like comic strips, definitely pick it up.
Review will be live on the blog on July 13.
Stephen Pastis's comic strip Pearls Before Swine is good, clean fun. His latest collection of comic strips, Suit Your Selfie, gets laughs out of weight gain, friendship, and, of course, cell phones. Pig and Rat have mixed feelings about new technologies like smart phones.
This is billed as a collection for kids, and I know kids will be amused by the funny animals and much of the humor. But a lot of it is really humor for adults, not in the sense that it uses foul language or sex jokes, but that it addresses adult issues like dieting and growing old. So, really, in the best sense, the comics are multi-generationally funny.
I thoroughly enjoyed this collection full of laugh-out-loud moments. Pastis makes several cameo appearances, allowing himself to be the butt of many a joke. Pick up the book, check them out in the paper (if you still read a newspaper), or read them online at: http://www.gocomics.com/pearlsbeforeswine.

I read completelly this book and I didnt like it AT ALL, sometimes i found that some strips are fun but this times wasn't the case. I must believe that just wasn't for me
I didn't really get the enjoyment from reading this that I wanted. It wasn't overly humorous, just ok. A few snickers here and there, but not really worth the time investment. Would make cute newspaper cartoons, but as a whole book it felt lacking.
