It's a cute comic, but it's not really laugh-out-loud funny.
An excellent story that was hilarious and excellently drawn. Great job.
I swear I want one of those "Antisocial Globes" LOL! This book was very funny. I think I had a smile on my face the whole time reading it. I just love Pig! I would recommend it to everyone who loves a quirky joke!
My thanks to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
Not a bad book, but more of a "not-the-right-book-for-me-right-at-this-moment" book. It never made me laugh out loud, or even snicker. The beginning was kind of rough going and I don't like it when he uses the lemmings committing suicide mythos (it reminds me of the fact that the Disney filmers MADE the lemmings jump to get "good" film. Makes me want to chase THEM off of a cliff, see how they like it!).
It got less unfunny towards the middle, but then it just got depressing when Rat was showing the kids around the museum of old stuff, like telephone booths, landline telephones with wires and the musician who wanted money for his music, etc. Made me feel old and sad. Especially when he brought up books.
BOOKS AREN'T DEAD YET!!! EVEN IF YOU CAN'T MAINTAIN COMPREHENSION OF THEM!!! (One of his panels was of him reading about Australia and not retaining ANY of the information he read. It was sad.)
So most of this book was sad to me. True, but sad. Probably better for younger readers, but would they understand all of the "historical" references? Not sure.
Three stars, because it was probably more a reader problem than a book problem, and purdy pictures. Not one I would go out of my way to recommend, but it's Pearls Before Swine, you can't go that wrong with it.
Fun compilation of comic strips by Stephan Pastis. It made me laugh, snort, giggle and roll my eyes. I definitely enjoyed it and will recommend it to my young patrons.
Not nearly as funny as I expected. I occasionally see this strip in the paper. I laughed a little, but mostly it just made me yawn.
If you've ever giggled at the Pearls Before Swine comic strip in the paper, then you will definitely enjoy "Suit Your Selfie," featuring a whole collection depicting the adventures of Pig, Rat, Goat, Zebra and the Crocodiles. If you're in need of a good laugh, then any page of "Suit Your Selfie" will help.
I wasn't aware that their was such a thing as the junior collections of Pearls, but being in the UK getting any collections can be a bit tricky.
Although this is supposed to be a junior book, it's a lovely way to introduce the strip to anyone who may not be familiar with it. Most the regular characters and running jokes are present, although there is a slight shortage of the labour intensive puns that Pastis is the undoubted master of.
Given the audience, some of the more risque/violent strips are missing, but even so, this is guaranteed to raise a smile.
I couldn't get past the first few pages. Nothing about this collection caught my attention enough that I would want to finish it. Kind of disappointed.
“Gather ‘round the smartphone, kids!”
Been barely a month since I read the latest collection of groan-worthy puns featuring Pig, Goat, Rat, and friends, but it turns out this is basically the same edition with some of the more risqué strips taken out, geared toward a younger audience. Beats me which ones were removed, but I enjoyed reading through them again; “elf storage” hit me more the second time.
I don't know about this book being targeted to 5th graders but I loved it. Super fun, with lots of puns and pokes at modern life as compared to life just 20 years ago. All of the usual beloved characters (pig, rat, goat, crocs, and zebra) are present, along with many new one off characters. Charming and zany, I recommend this for those in need of a laugh!
Pig, Rat, and the rest of the "Pearls Before Swine" gang returns once again to delight all their fans with a packed collection showing off their offbeat, bluntly absurd, and often pund-derful style humor that continues to make their ongoing presence on the comics page an absolute joy.
This collection wasn't nearly as funny as the last one. I think I enjoy the strips with Zebra much more than the ones that focus on Pig and Rat. Just not enough Zebra in this one.
If you're aware of Pearls Before Swine, it's hard to go wrong with a collection. I don't really follow the dailies, so this is a great way of catching up with what Stephan Pastis is up to lately (I feel like I can say that since he is one of the characters in the strips). There were many that made me grin or groan, and a few that made me laugh out loud. Also pleased to see the crocs and their long-suffering zeeba neighba make several appearances!
Thank you for Netgalley for letting me read Suit Your Selfie: Pearls Before Swine collection by Stephen Pastis for a honest review
I found this book cute, funny to read a pleasure to read.

Suit Your Selfie by Stephen Pastis is a collection of Pearls Before Swine comics, so if you like the strip you will like the book.
This is one of my favorite strips but I have fallen behind with the dailies so this book served as a wonderful reminder of how well written they are. The humor ranges from groanable (for which Pastis holds himself accountable within the strip) to the subtle.
I think anyone who likes the strip will like the book. I would also recommend this to someone unfamiliar with Pearls Before Swine because it offers a selection of the various characters and situations.
Reviewed from a copy made available by the publisher via NetGalley.
I always enjoyed reading Pearls Before Swine when it was in the Metro every day. This book shares some of the charm I remember, but lacks some of mouse's diabolical charm and only has a small number of kind hearted Larry the crocodile comics. As hand selling humour is so difficult, I won't be recommending it for the store as there are other better collections.
Suit Your Selfie by Stephan Pastis was a humorous collection of panels
A collection of Pearls Before Swine comics that feature comedy that’s punny, that pokes fun at the things the current generation is clueless about, the silly things that a certain pig gets up to (oh and that some crocs get up to too), lemmings, and more.
This had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion to the extent that certain pages required immediate sharing with my husband so he wouldn’t feel left out. A funny and clean collection that I definitely need to add to the library at our school (as well as the rest of AMP!’s Pearls Before Swine collections). It was just the laugh I needed this week.
Suit Your Selfie was a fun short collection of Pearls Before Swine comics aimed towards a younger audience.
Having been a fan of Pearls Before Swine for years, I have previously seen most of the comics included in this collection. My favorites in the collection are the ones where Rat is explaining old technology and items that kids these days wouldn't use (such as a phone booth, corded phone, etc.) while the kids are horrified at how slow and more difficult life used to be in the pre-cell phone era.
The collection has some strips that contain good tidbits about life and how we deal with everything that comes our way which is a good thing for younger audiences to read. However, overall the collection does skip around a lot and there isn't one flowing story as seen in the larger collections. This is likely due to weeding out the strips with adult content and probably couldn't be helped.
Sadly my favorite of the Pearls characters (Guard Duck) only makes one appearance in the collection. I'm guessing he's a bit too violent for the younger readers, but he is my favorite of the characters.
Overall, this was a fun short read that gave me a taste of one of my favorite comic strips on the market. I'd definitely recommend it for Pearls fans, and those with younger kids looking to get into comic strips.
