This book is all about espionage and spies. Oh lets not forget the Arctic ocean and a huge oil spill. It really jumps around a lot. Guess its ment to add to the suspense. But I found it confusing at times.

There is a lot of action. Too much happens at the beginning. It does get less confusing as the book go's on. It's just a lot of information all at once.

As a whole I found it an ok read.
If you like action and espionage then give this a go.

An implausible but compulsively readable novel. This one will keep you turning the pages. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I decided to take a risk with this one. I'm not really big on spy thrillers but the synopsis intrigued me so I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately I also didn't realize it was a second in the series book. I think i would have benefited from reading this from the series starter.

Not a bad story but became a bit confusing as there was a LOT going on. Maybe it's just my interest that waned because it's not the type I usually go for. Can't blame a girl for trying though right?

If you like the writing style of Michael Crichton then you'll love this book - I think anyone with a hankering for a good old international spy thriller will love this one.

War with America is coming.

A International thriller with the dynamic duo of Yuri Kirov and Laura. With their skills and experience, when teamed together they get results. Yuri has kept a low profile in Seattle with his girlfriend Laura and her infant daughter. When tragedy strikes, an oil leak in Alaska, Yuri is called up to investigate. The investigation leads to a video being leaked that Yuri is alive and well and the Russians want him back to finish a job.

The manipulation begins with Russian double agent Elena and the Chinese government that Yuri and Laura become entangled in the Pacific ocean. With the abduction of Laura and Yuri hot on the trail, he must determine how he is being used to cause a war between the Russians and the United States. Very fast packed thriller filled with intrigue and heart.

Since I did not read the first one, I feel like I may have missed some history between Yuri and Laura and the bond that they share. Definitely on the radar!

A Special Thank You to Pinnacle Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review

I've never encountered the author of this particular book before so read it with a bit of trepitation but also excitement.
Although I read some good and also some bad (and I mean bad) spy novels this was quite a refreshing change.

Although this is the second novel in the series I immediately went and bought the first novel, The Good Spy, once I'd finished this novel as I really liked the style of writing.
A really enjoyable read.

THE FOREVER SPY by Jeffrey Layton is a story about international espionage between the United States, Russia, and China. Yuri Kirov, a former Russian officer/spy, is forced into an international conflict where half truths and partial lies are everywhere and Yuri has to determine who and what he can really trust, especially when his wife and child are violently brought into the mix.
Layton lays out an interesting plot, with personal connections and loyalties are often questioned and sometimes strengthened, but the characters are a little obvious for me. I wasn't really surprised or shocked by any choice a character made and I could predict just about every choice they did make. A wild card character or a few questionable choices I think would have made for a more interesting book. That being said, I did like and pull for the good guys and want to see the demise of the bad. Not being well versed in aquatic terminology and weaponry, I feel a little behind and at times and slow to understand what I was reading, but mostly I was able to piece together what was going on and how the action played out in the water. Towards the end of the book, as any good thriller should do, I found myself reading faster and faster because I couldn't wait to see what happened at the end.
A good espionage/thriller, I enjoyed A FOREVER SPY and I would read another book in the Yuri Kirov series in the future.

The Forever Spy by :Jeffrey Layton
What's it's about:
shocking disaster threatens to trigger a new Cold War . . .
Deep beneath the ice-covered Arctic Ocean, a massive oil spill threatens destruction on an untold scale. Yuri Kirov, a former operative for the Russian Navy and an expert in state-of-the-art underwater vessels, is pressed into duty--America's only hope at limiting the damage. When Yuri's past is exposed by a turncoat spy, he is blackmailed into taking on a risky subsea espionage mission. With the future of his newly adopted country at risk--and his loved ones in the line of fire--Yuri must lead his crew into the iciest depths before tensions boil over--while an unseen enemy pushes both superpowers one step closer to the brink . . .

My thoughts:
5 stars
Even though this is book 2 in a series ,I had no problem getting lost in the story, once I started reading it, I was hooked, and couldn't stop reading , had to know what happened next. Loved the characters, there's something about Jeffrey Layton writing style that reminds me of some of my favorite authors like : Michael Crichton, and one of my all-time favorite authors James Rollins, their 2 authors I could definitely see writing something like this, this series is a must check out . Can't wait to pick up a copy of both books 1 and 2 so I can read them back to back, with that said I would love to think NetGalley for giving me a chance at finding a new author as well as a new series to read ,in a change for my honest opinion. I loved it . Can't wait to see what happens next.

Science fiction at its very best!
Jeffery Layton has written what most U.S. citizens are terrified of happening.
He's written with intelligence and horrific reality about something that could happen any day or even any minute.
This will keep you awake worrying about the possibility!

This book was interesting, but a bit too technical for my tastes.

Turin & Laura have appeared in an earlier book which I haven't read so I probably missed some of the emotional nuances but that said they're an interesting pair & the story is full of plots and tension. Not my usual genre and I won't say I'm a convert now to spy books but I did enjoy it.

This book has it all! It is also well written and plotted. I liked the characters because they were believable. The only downside was there was a lot of background information on the characters. Well in a way it was good if you didn’t read the first book but if you did it is a waste of time. The action was none stop.

This is another great Yuri and Laura thriller.

While setting some data measurers up in the Arctic Ocean area, some scientists discover oil in the water….lots of oil. After reporting this to Washington, Yuri and his team set out to investigate with their underwater submarine named Deep Explorer. This is a high tech. super modern sub with the capabilities that Yuri and his team need to explore the oil spill.

When Yuri’s past is exploited by a turncoat spy, Yuri is forced to go underwater on a rather questionable and dangerous mission.

This book has it all! The threat of war brings out all the bad guys. Spies from several countries all in the hunt regarding the oil spill. The book has drama, thrills, spills, chases and great descriptions of military and technological things. The action comes fast and furious, especially in the last part of the novel.

This book is well written and plotted. The characters are both likeable and believable. I liked the action interspersed with the descriptions of the technological stuff. There was not a lot of background information given on the characters, but we learned quite a bit about them in the last book.

I want to thank Netgalley and Kensington Books/Pinnacle for forwarding to me a copy of this great book to read.
