This book is amazing. If it does not get kids imagination flowing, I don’t know what will. Even better, it's using stuff most people have around their house. Cardboard of varying thickness (old cereal boxes), check, duct tape, check, glue check. Let's get creating. The instructions are full color and easy to follow. Plus there are some of these projects, that as an adult I want to make. I see a new knight's helmet in my future, a an igloo for the dogs.

Out of the Box is a brilliant resource for crafts and projects using (mainly) cardboard, paint and glue, perfect for all ages. The resulting crafts look to be sturdy and up to the challenge of lasting through hours of play.
The projects include wearable masks, outside games, pirate ships, a 'cityscape', and a selection of cute animals. Directions for each are described simply and effectively in steps with photos.
Highly recommended for any teacher, library, camp counselor, daycare provider, parent of young children, and anyone wanting to entertain and participate in crafts with children.
This book is a great addition to any Maker Space! I delighted in page after page of rather whimsical cardboard creations. I bought a copy and can't wait to try it out with the kids at the community center I volunteer in.
“Out of the Box” by Jemma Westinghouse is a great book for inquisitive kids and adults. I got this book because I was going to visit relatives who have a nine-year-old child. He loved the projects and wanted to make every single one. Some projects are made from cardboard boxes and similar items readily available, and others require gathering (or saving) supplies. We selected on one to make now, and one to plan to make later.
The format for each project was easy to follow with both written step-by-step instructions and supply lists and color examples as well. This makes it easy for both readers and non-readers to gather supplies and to follow instructions. We were able to get all the materials needed and easily finish our first project and we started saving up the materials needed for the next project.
NetGalley gave me a copy of “Out of the Box” in exchange for my impartial review. The projects are geared to a variety of skill levels, and everyone, adults and kids, will find projects they love. I know we will be making these fun and easy things from boxes again and again.
This book would be a perfect addition to any makerspace or home tinkering area. I lived the vivid illustrations, step-by-step instructions and connections to other activities. It would have been box to have an index that listed the connected standards.
I liked this title it was what drew me into wanting to read and explore this book in the first place. I was considering going to get my nieces so that they and my boys could work on some these together while I supervised and did some of the more technical stuff if called for. I will certainly be on the look for it at my bookstore. Can't wait to get to my hands on an actual copy the book.
