*I received this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
After trying to read the first book, but running out of time and being put back on the hold list at my library, I found this one on Netgalley and knew I needed to snatch it up.
My fiance and I have been eating paleo (ish) for a few months now. It agrees with us, but I'm a horrible and lazy cook. Because of this I often need to look at recipes multiple times and I still get them wrong lol. Although I have a few good standbys. So, yeah, I'm always down to look at more paleo cookbooks.
This cookbook is beautiful. I love all the pictures which make the book so interesting and nice to look through. It is a cute and fun.
The set up is interesting too--definitely not what you see often, with the contents divided by how much time you have and if you have anything prepped to go! There is also a guide in the back which has all the recipes with their page#, and if they include eggs, nightshade, nuts, are freezer friendly, and/or whole 30 friendly. I only wish they included fish to this hahaha because unfortunately my fiance is allergic to fish and I can't eat it.
That being said, there are a TON of fish included recipes here (this is including fish sauce using recipes). So, kinda a bummer for me, but I can always just not use the fishy stuff and hope for the best ^_^
The other negative for me is that, as I said earlier, I am so lazy. Going into the kitchen is always a battle for me, so I push it off until the last minute or I get so absorbed in something I don't realize I have to cook until it is time to eat. So, I probably won't use this cookbook too much.... :( I don't think I'll spend time to make sauces and then use them later to make the food.
I also don't have a pressure cooker, so that leaves off more recipes.
In the end, this cookbook doesn't work for my lifestyle, but I loved reading it and looking through it and there are a few recipes I've bookmarked to try later. This is a book I'm sure many people--even not strictly paleo people can use!
Happy eating!
Looks like these are more healthy and delicious recipes. Can't wait to try some of them.
Although I'm not following a Paleo diet, I do make a majority of my meals in that style because of food allergies and preferences in my family. Michelle Tam's first book is my very favorite Paleo cookbook because her recipes use tools/ingredients I already use and help me think of new uses for them, and this is a great follow-up.
If you loved the first book as I did, then you will most likely love this one too because it's very similar in layout. There are so many pictures in this book! Every step is photographed for some recipes, and it's great to have that visual check as you're preparing a meal. Visual learners, this book is for you! Everything is broken down into manageable steps, and there's a variety of background information and practical tips that are useful for everyone and particularly handy for people new to cooking. There are quite a few Instant Pot recipes, but several recipes are presented using a variety of possible methods.
This book delivers the same beautiful photos, the fun design and cartoons, and the mouthwatering recipes. It is a must own for your Paleo/Gluten Free cookbook shelves.
I have never read any of her books, however I love to cook and can usually recreate a recipe easily. I loved this book, very visual, maybe a bit too much at times. But recipes were easy to follow, and I found many that I will be making. As a matter of fact, I made the macadamia Nut encrusted salmon just last night and it was delicious. This book makes it really easy for someone new to the Paleo diet, easy explanations, shopping lists and in-detail instructions makes cooking a breeze!
I am not a Paleo dieter but I do love many of the Paleo recipes and the Nom Nom crew have done it again with this book.
They are always creative and usually quite easy to make, although there are a few harder ones.
I love the background behind it all that she puts into the book.
All I can say is even if you aren't a strict paleo eater then you can still enjoy the Nom Nom books, this one is my new fav.
I received an e-copy of this book in return for an honest review but I know I need a proper copy for my kitchen now.
Was unable to download review copy. Will have to wait for pre-order.
A terrific addition to the library's ever growing paleo collection of cookbooks. I thought the whole description of the paleo diet was good, as well as everything you need to get started if you have never done paleo before. The recipes look great and are presented with beautiful color photographs and easy to follow step by step instructions. I would recommend this to anyone, following paleo or not!
I hadn't realised what Paleo was, so I got this book because I thought it was just the name of the blog of the poeple who wrote this book. So I had hopes to find some new recipes. Instead it is a diet/food thing, and totally not something I am going to do (maybe only occasionally when I feel like making one of the recipes). Plus there are quite a few recipes that need either pressure cookers or slow cookers neither of which I have at home.
Some of the recipes did look good, but I would still have to adapt quite a lot of them to my and my boyfriend's dietary needs (we both have allergies/stuff we can only eat in small doses). Plus finding a few of the ingredients would be a bit too hard/or I have no clue what the alternative would be in my country (and thus negating the recipes easiness).
But I did like how the book was formatted. With illustrations, with photo comics telling us how to cook these foods, with little personal stuff about family and how they have adapted to this diet, the various sections was also nicely done (though it doesn't really work well on a tablet).
This book not only has fantastic 150 recipes and many more suggestions for a healthy life - including what tools to use during the preparation process - but is also has great illustrations, as well as comics like episodes. It is a great introduction to healthy paleo recipes and lifestyle. The recipes are aimed for a family with many children-friendly recipes.
Well, Michelle Tam has done it again! Ready or Not! is the perfect follow-up to her Nom Nom Paleo cookbook.
In this cookbook, you will find high-quality, delicious recipes that are very easy to follow. For those that are visual like me, you will absolutely love all the colorful pictures of each recipe, you definitely don't see that in most cookbooks. You will also find beautiful illustrations with fun and entertaining personal cartoons throughout.
What I really loved the most was the first chapter, you get a complete explanation of the Paleo lifestyle with an in-depth list of supplies that you will need in your kitchen - perfect for the beginner.
Another plus for me was the recipe index, this will show you how to prepare a meal in advance, show you how to freeze it, and show you how to cook a meal for people who have different types of food allergies.
A must read for anyone on or just started out on the Paleo lifestyle - Highly recommended!
*I want to thank NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC of this book.
I love Michelle Tam and her approach to food! These recipes are super easy to follow, but most importantly tasty!
Tam and Fong are new to me, but I enjoyed this humorous, engaging book about paleo dieting. Quirky and fun.
Fans of Tam and Fong's previous recipe collection, "Nom Nom Paleo" won't be disappointed in the slightest. The wide assortment of recipes and dishes offered here in beautiful and easy-to-follow picture-rich and step-by-step format has something for every paleo-eater to enthusiastically enjoy.
I'm such a huge fan of Nom Nom Paleo on Facebook and was really blown away by the cook books' make ahead, easy dishes. I'm a ROTTEN cook and a fledgling paleo follower, so this book was right on the money for me!
This engaging cookbook is a great addition to any kitchen as recipes are presented with clarity and humour!
I have been a follower of Tam's for years now and I have to say she has done an excellent job once again. She has created an excellent resource for the followers of the Paleo diet. The recipes are not only healthy but also delicious. I love that there are photos given for every step to minimum any errors during the cooking process.
Get ready to read every word, chortle at the humorous antics and feel grateful for the step by step instructions with easy to follow photographs. Ready or No, nom nom nom is back with more recipes to embrace or tiptoe through a paleo diet. I greatly appreciate the flexibility and explanations of why and how throughout this cookbook series.
I’ve been following Nom Nom Paleo, off and on, for a few years. I was excited when I heard the blog’s newest cookbook, Ready or Not!, was to be released on August 1st of this year.
Michelle Tam’s blog is a staple in the Paleo community and I don’t think it is a stretch to say this will be a best seller in the cookbook section on Amazon. Very few of Michelle’s recipes have failed me and quite a few (hellooo, slow cooker kalua pig!) have become regulars on my kitchen playlist. Magic Mushroom Powder is also from Nom Nom Paleo and it is THE BEST THING that ever happened to a grilled hamburger. I also have NNP to thank for introducing me to InstantPot and Red Boat Fish Sauce.
But the truth? I have mixed feelings about this cookbook. I want to love it and give it 5 stars but I’m just not quite there.
From a graphic design standpoint, their formatting was an interesting, if slightly distracting, choice. Cookbook as graphic novel. I do wish they had decided to combine more traditional recipe formatting with the graphic novel approach. For me, it will keep it from being a book that I will go back and page through time and time again. I couldn’t help by compare it with Robin Ha’s Cook Korean!, which I’m fresh from reading. I think Cook Korean! was a little more successful in marrying the comic book/graphic novel format with a cookbook. Still, I can’t be too critical. This… this was a labor of love. The cook and designer in me can tell you a hell of a lot of work went into this project.
This is a thoughtfully put-together cookbook. They start out with assembling building blocks of a Paleo kitchen, both DIY and store bought. They move into the Ready, Kinda Ready, and Not Ready sections that are organized by how much time and effort you want to put into your meal. You’ll see many recipes referencing others, which can be a blessing or a curse depending on how well you plan. Example, there is a Sunday Gravy recipe that is used several times in some unexpected ways. Their point? Dinner can be delicious and healthful, whether you want to spend 30 minutes or a few hours on it.
My recommendation? If you’re Paleo and a foodie, check it out. Heck, check it out even if Paleo isn’t your bag. Good food is good food. And if you love kitchen gadgetry (pressure cookers, sous vide, etc), you’d probably really dig NNP. But I’d test drive a copy from your library before committing to adding it permanently to your book shelf.
