The first NOM NOM Book was a sort of revelation to me so I was delighted to keep on reading about this funny family and their recipes. Very well written and explained and super pictures!
THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
Absolutely amazing cookbook, even for those who don't follow the paleo diet. Unique and tantilizing recipes. Step-by-step instructions are accompanied by full color photos illustrating each step, making each recipe approachable for cooks of any skill level. Recipes are grouped into how much time/effort one has available for the meal they're looking for - a brilliant and much appreciated touch.
Nom Nom Paleo serves us a hit again! Known for their InstaPot and slow cooker must-have recipes, Tam and Fong deliver in this new cookbook. Great for folks on the Whole30 or who just want to be thoughtful about what they are eating. Highly recommended!
Thank you to Netgalley, Andrews McMeel Publishing, Michelle Tam, and Henry Fong for the chance to read and review this ARC;
I love, love, love NomNomPaleo, NomNomPaleo Podcat, Michelle Tam, Henry Fong and the Double "O's for years, and so I jumped on this like a hot cake the second I saw I could add it to my Netgalley ARC's pile. I can tell you right from the get go that nothing about this book disappointed and that I'm glad I read it and reviewed it the same day I got my hands on it.
From the beginning, I love that you feel like you are in the house of this family, just like the website and the podcast makes you feel. It starts with cartoons of the family as well as family shot photos of all of them together in their house. I love the art on the website and am glad to see its transition here in the same fashion.
I love that the first chapter is devoted to explaining to you the lifestyle of paleo, handling all the necessary questions so anyone picking up this book of a bookshelf won't get lost. From there we get an in-depth view of the supplies you need to have in your kitchen to cook everyday paleo, both including the things you should have in your kitchen for cooking in the way of devices and objects as well as foods.
Then we jump into "the meat of the book" as the book, itself, puts it with a million mouthwatering recipes bound to make any person realize just how flavorful, colorful and multifaceted the eating of a paleo lifestyle can be.
I'm a longtime fan of the Nom Nom Paleo blog, and a few of their recipes have become regulars in our household. This new cookbook has really mouthwatering visuals -- I mean, a LOT of them. There are tons of recipes for staples and make-ahead meals, and they all look so delicious. I can definitely vouch for the Kalua Pork and the ribs, and I can't wait to make more of their recipes.
Thanks to Andrew McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Ready or Not! is a great cookbook, written for those following the Paleo diet. I'm not on the Paleo diet, but Michelle Tam cooks a lot of Asian recipes that I enjoy. Her recipes are creative and delicious. She also has a lot of great recipes for the pressure cooker, which is a great time saving device. Regular ingredients are easily substituted for Paleo specific ingredients if they are unavailable or if you choose not to use them.
The recipes are illustrated with cartoons, and are well written and easy to follow. There are some great dessert recipes, which is a little unexpected in a Paleo cookbook.
I especially liked the Mok Mok Wings, Chinese Chicken in a Pressure Cooker, and the Macadamia Crusted Sriracha Ranch Salmon.
I definitely recommend this cookbook, whether or not you're on the Paleo diet.
As an occasional reader of the Nom Nom Paleo blog, I was happy to see the blog's playfulness and humor transfer well to cookbook form. The art was clean and cheerful, and the cookbook's organization made sense. The paleo primer at the beginning was much appreciated. I liked the smaller "build your own recipe" sections—for example, using a chicken recipe as the base for recipes involving sauces covered in earlier pages. Some of the recipes were surprising, and I flagged a number for my own lunches. Despite not being a full paleo eater myself, there's no doubt that paleo food is tasty. Overall, the book is definitely worth a read, regardless of if you're a carb-lover or a full-on paleo pundit.
My family is not 100% Paleo, but we are gluten free and want to have more of a Paleo leaning so I am always looking for all of the recipes I can possibly find. I have the original Nom Nom Paleo cookbook and I will admit that one is not my favorite as far as the appeal of the recipes, but I loved the set up of the book in the comic style and there are enough good recipes in there that it caught my attention when I saw this new Nom Nom book. I am so glad that I did. Ready or Not is full of fantastic recipes. I do not think there are many any here I wouldn't try. I love that there is a recipe for gluten free tortillas, a recipe I know I will utilize time and again. Another thing I really liked was that there are several pressure cooker recipes included and since I recently started using an InstantPot to save on time and cook more at home that is a huge bonus to me. I would actually love to see an entire Nom Nom Pressure Cooker Cookbook in the future! One last thing I thought was really cool was that many of the recipes presented either alternative cooking modes (slow cooker instead of pressure cooker if that's not your thing or you don't have one) or a different option to make the recipe a different flavor making the options pretty endless. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to cook more at home whether you subscribe to the Paleo lifestyle or not. There are tons of great recipes here not to missed.
She's done it once again!!! Her first book is my very favorite paleo book. This one will be my new favorite. So many amazing recipes presented in an easy to follow fun way! There are so many pictures in this book. Every step is photographed for some recipes. It's great to be able to see what my food should be looking like. Visual learners this book is for you. Everything is broken down into manageable steps. There is great background information and tons of practical help for those new to paleo cooking. The recipes vary in difficulty but none are unattainable by any means. There are multiple cooking methods included. Instantpot recipes are plentiful! She even presents different methods to cook the same recipe.
The book has tons of cartoons in it so my kids loved it too. I want them to love cooking and these features have really made them love to look at the cookbooks.
I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I will be purchasing this book when it comes out!
Thank you to Netgalley for letting me review this book called Ready or Not!: 150+ Make-Ahead, Make-Over, and Make-Now Recipes by Nom Nom Paleo.
The book is well illustrated, with personal photo's cartoons, funny comments and lots of excellent information throughout. I loved the weekly shopping list and the menu list for every day meals. The personal touch's were sweet and fitted in very well with the personality of the writers. The recipes were very clear and with illustrated photos and cartoon's to show you how to prepare the food.
Pressure cooker is so 80's but has made a come back in this lovely book. So I blew the dust from my electric one which was in the cupboard and never used and its being used thanks to this book.
The conversation page is excellent, very clear and very colourful like the book and has been printed off, and placed on my inside of my main cupboard in my kitchen as a reminder and future reference.
Recipe index what a brilliant idea and helps you prepare a meal in advance and can freeze it etc or if you are cooking a meal for people who have nut allergies etc. Fab idea.
I love the book throughout. It made me smile and lol with the personal touches. This will be purchased when it comes out in the shops and will have a place in my kitchen. I have cooked lots of the meals now and they have been amazing.
Review on Good reads
I received this arc from Netgalley for an honest review. This is another great Non Nom Paleo cookbook. If your interest in Paleo or want easy recipes these books are for you. Not only is there great recipes and information but there's also humor found within. I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy.
Engaging and informative style, easy to follow recipes (that even this non-domestic goddess can follow), and mouth watering photographs, make Ready or Not! a must read.
Try the Cracklin' Chicken and thank Nom Nom later :)
Such a charming presentation! The comic book/manga style is so unique for a cookbook- it really stands out from the rest. The recipes look delicious and were beautifully photographed.
I look forward to recommending this title to cooking enthusiasts - Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for a review.
Love the entertaining cartoons! I didn't think I was a fan of the paleo diet but the author takes any negativity out of it and makes it seem to be a positive way of life. This book is adorable and the recipes look amazing. The illustrations and pictures are WONDERFUL!
I love the graphics! It's cute, quick and easy to read and the recipes are delicious! As a beginner in the paleo world, it is a great addition!
Can't read--I read and review books on my Kindle. Unfortunately, Net Galley titles doesn't indicate which titles are only available as a protected pdf/ not available for Kindle, or I wouldn't have requested. Too bad--I was looking forward to this!
Thank you anyway-
Incredibly well-organized presentation of the paleo diet for newbies. A bit chatty but the cartoon characters and color photographs are a delightful, novel approach to this cookbook about a popular trend. Recipes for all skill levels, info about ingredients, articles about foods used, and how to set up your kitchen are included. Not for vegans or vegetarians..
