I absolutely love christmas, and I love the snow and watch the birds from my window.
This book will not disappoint. But arguably, you will get pleasure from this book all year round. The artwork is wonderful.
I actually ended up purchasing this book for my neighbour and she has had hours of fun both watching and reading. So, I guess that means I would recommend this book.
Enjoy!
I love all things Christmas, and this book did not disappoint. The drawings were beautiful, and the verses and discussions she put with each was timely and appropriate, even if you might not think of them as being "Christmasy." I was envious of her artistic talent and thought this would make a lovely hostess gift at the holiday season. My favorite drawing was the pink flamingo as it reminded me of a dear friend, which is always nice when a book reminds you of a friend.
Christmas Birds: Art and Inspiration for the Season and Beyond by Kathleen R Bates. Even if I didn't know the story of how Kathleen started, the book is a collection of beautiful images that people of all ages will appreciate. Knowing her story makes them even more special. Kathleen started over 40 years ago with a Christmas card design in pen and ink and she has continued to create images for personal Christmas cards every year since. After the first few years, all of her images have a bird in them and it's her tradition now. Not only are the images beautiful and the accompanying inspirational message but I'm also so impressed with her courage to send these out as a way to minister and share the message in an nontraditional way. I highly recommend the book. And I think it's an encouragement to us that you never know the impact of what you're doing today and how it can have ripple effects 40 years later.
Lovely Christmas card illustrations and biblical references.
A beautiful book put together by a talented artist. This is a collection of Ms. Bates original paintings for Christmas cards that she sent to friends for over 40 years. Each one is accompanied by her thoughts on the meaning of Christmas and also quotes from scripture. Sublime.
A collection of yearly Christmas card illustrations with sentiments and Scripture to friends and family has become a gift to the world--0ne reflecting the Greatest Gift from the Greatest Giver. Thank you, Kathleen, for sharing your gift with all of us. A book of beautiful bird paintings that can be read as a devotional. A book for believers and a book to touch the hearts of those who have yet to meet the Creator of the splendid creatures so magnificently portrayed in this unique work. Five stars.
Ms. Bates is a self taught artist. She portrays her subjects beautifully and ties in bits of interest with each bird. I enjoyed snipits of her personal thoughts and experiences as she ties it all into the Biblical account of Christmas. My favorite might be the Scarlet Ibis. This is an enjoyable and informative read.
