I’m such a sucker for historical romances. I can’t get enough of them. This was another I really enjoyed. It was a nice break from all the adult fantasy I’ve been reading lately.
SADIE'S HIGHLANDER - Maeve Greyson
#1 in the Highland Protector time-travel romance series
GREAT CHARACTERS! - 4 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Alec and his family were transported from the tenth century years ago and have created a successful Scottish theme park. Delia and her film company want to use it as the setting for a movie, so she uses her sister Sadie to get it, fully intending to renege on her agreement.
Writing - 4 stars - This is a new-to-me author, and I was drawn into the story right away. The characters were designed so well that I was already rooting for them within the first few pages and knew just what to expect from each of them.
Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Alec is the perfect Highlander hero. He's strong and confident in his roots and his duty, but he's also vulnerable because he's out of his element in the 21st century. He's drawn to Sadie immediately, and they don't waste any time getting together. Sadie knows exactly what she wants--to be a screenwriter--but she's caught up in her sister's machinations and is totally being used and abused. Her dilemma certainly makes the reader want to support her, although her self-deprecation could have been toned down a bit. I mean, she went totally overboard with her negative thoughts, and it was frustrating at times. The secondary characters of the other Highlanders and the members of the film company both support the personalities built around Alec and Sadie.
Title - 3 stars - Pretty self-explanatory, leading the reader to know what to expect.
Cover - 3 stars - Nothing special for this genre. An attractive couple, a nice purple color, but nothing to draw the eye.
Overall - 4 stars - This was a very pleasant book, and I definitely want to continue with the series to discover more about this fascinating family and situation. I'm not normally a Highlander fan, but the time travel element kept things interesting, allowing the use of modern conveniences while still maintaining the Highlander flavor.

My first book by Maeve Greyson and I don't know if I would pick up another one. I was excited about the time travel aspect, but the heroine got on my nerves from the beginning, the plot drivers didn't make sense, and things were a bit over-the-top for me.

A time travel novel with a highlander as the main character? Count me in! I was excited because it had elements that I enjoy. Time travel… Check. Sexy highlander… Check. Unfortunately, it was hard for me to really enjoy and finish reading this book. Not sure exactly what it was but maybe it was because it was not your typical time travel romance novel. More specifically, while Alec MacDara and his family time-travelled from the past, I missed the element where they fumble and get their bearings in the current time period.
The chemistry between Sadie and Alec was undeniable and their interactions were cute. Both are passionate and caring individuals. The dynamic between the family members were also humorous and enjoyable. The only character I hated was Sadie’s sister who had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. To treat the people around her the way she did, especially her own sister, was deplorable.
This is the first novel of the Highland Protector series so it’s a good time to jump into this novel if you are interested in time travel romance.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. The story of Alec and Sadie is well written and enjoyable. Alec, who is from the past finally meets the woman he wants to spend his life with. Sadie is the adopted sister of an abusive sister who has used her as her own personal slave. There is a lot of intrigue in the book and you want Sadie to realize her value as a person. The book is a good read.
Sadie's Highlander is the first book (as of the date of this review) of a 3 part series. Sadie is the typical "plain Jane" sister and assistant to a glamorous and beautiful TV producer, who are visiting the Scottish theme park Highland Life and Legends to convince the MacDaras to let them film a movie on their land. Always being manipulated by her sister, Sadie is not full of confidence, but believes her sister is the key to a future in the film industry outside of her sisters company. In hearing the pitch for the filming request, Alec MacDara stipulates that certain actions from Sadie are to be included in the deal, one of which is spending time with Alec.
Despite this being a time travel book (although time travel really isn't very prevalent to the story, other than how the MacDara's got to North Carolina, and why they have a secret lair), much of this story is pretty far fetched and a little out there. While much of the story line is certainly interesting, I really was hoping for more. I don't know if its the writing style, or just the ridiculous events that unfold during the book, but reading this left me a bit unfulfilled. This book definitely has funny, hot, and entertaining moments, however I just wasn't all that impressed.

Sadie's Highlander is another great book by Maeve Greyson! I've read all of the previous books in this novel and this one is just as great as the rest. This book is the last book of the sister's and granny has finally made a match for the last of the girls. I love that each of the sisters are different in their own way and their men are just as unique. I highly recommend this book along with the rest of this series!
Sadie's Highlander by Maeve Greyson is fun! Why wouldn't a set of highland brothers hide in their future as theme park owners? The characters are delightful. The story has twits and turns (just like the roller coasters...). Highly recommend this one if you have a sense of humor and like a little giggle with your romance.
Sadie has never been given the love that she deserves. She doesn’t see her self worth. Aiden sees it even before he meets her.
Can he trust her with his family’s secret? Will she see the love that’s right in front of her before it’s too late? I certainly enjoyed finding out!!
5 stars!!!
The start of a very good series called Highland Protector I will be looking for more in this series. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I've only gotten into some historicals within the last year or so and decided that i liked the sound of this one. That and of course a Scot in a kilt. Duh.
I loved the different family dynamics and the overall feel of this one. I was surprisingly pleased with Alec and Sadie's story and would love to continue reading this author's books.
I really enjoyed Alec and Sadie's story! I don't normally read romances set in modern times, but I do love a good time travel. What interested me about this one, was that is was the male lead that had traveled through time. Most time travel books that I have read have a modern woman traveling back through time.
I loved Sadie!! She had gone through so much in her life, but was willing to do whatever was needed to make her dreams come true. My heart broke for her every time she talked about what her adopted family had put her through. I thought that Alec was the perfect lead! Even though he was in modern times, he had not lost the chivalry that he had been taught as a young man and defended Sadie every time someone treated her poorly.
I so glad that I decided to pick up this book and I'm excited to read the rest of the series to see Alec's siblings find their HEA!
An A for originality. Impressive, the author stayed away from the traditional run of the meal story to come up with a new concept that works. Good writing
If you love stories about highlanders you’ll love this book. Great storyline you almost feel like you are there. Can’t wait to read more by this author.
Although I loved this story, and all the meat it had, I found it fell way below my expectations. I found the inevitable sex scenes to be over written and the placement of said scenes really took away from the storyline.
Wow what a enjoyable story I just love it. I can recommend it honestly to any one who love Highlanders stories
This book was a cute story and the ending was very sweet! I am hoping I get to read the next one through Net Galley!
Alec MacDara and his family are druids in charge of the Heartstone. The Heartstone is the item that brings hope, love and creativity to the world. The MacDara family were brought forward in time by goddesses from the 10th century to modern day North Carolina to protect the Heartstone, and the family. They began and have run Highland Life and Legends theme park for many years.
Sadie Williams’ sister owns a film company and wants to film at Highland Life and Legends. Sadie emails Alec thinking that an assistant of some sort would be reading the emails. Alec actually reads them and is so enthralled with the sender that he agrees to an interview. The film company gets the right to film at HL&L but Alec has the stipulation that Sadie must stay at his home with his family the full six weeks for filming.
While Sadie is at the MacDara household she gets closer with Alec and soon they fall in love. Unfortunately Sadie’s sister, the evil beast that she is, ruins everything and soon Sadie is on her own once again.
Right after I received an eARC from NetGalley I opened this book up as I was pretty excited to read it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very far into it when I put it back down. Alec seemed creepy and I wasn’t sure about him at all. When the book title came up in my schedule again I wasn’t sure I wanted to finish it but I actually started from the beginning once again and gave it a fair shot. I think it might have been my state of mind that had previously made him seem creepy – he wasn’t. That said he was completely smitten by Sadie even before he met her and once they’d met he was like a puppy with a bone he couldn’t put down. They fell in love extremely quickly – like in a couple of days and that didn’t feel right to me. Sadie kept vacillating back and forth and that drove me nuts. They got engaged within days and yeah…that just doesn’t happen. (OK, I’m sure it does but extremely rarely IRL.)
The part that had to do with Sadie’s sister was ridiculous, imho. I guess Sadie had been conditioned by her sister to accept blame for everything the sister did, but I think Sadie took it to the nth degree and that was just too far. She put her relationship with Alec on the line because of something her sister did and it just didn’t ring true.
I’d love to say that what Alec did to win Sadie back to wonderfully romantic but I just didn’t think so. I wanted him to just talk to her instead of coming up with this incredible ruse – like that’s what he needed to convince her to be with him. IDK, seemed far-fetched to me.
Overall the story was decent but there was enough in there that bothered me that I’m not sure I can recommend this one.
Rating: 3 out of 5
It all has to do with a stone that needs to be protected, the blessed Heartstone.
A clan, the most prepared for such work, was chosen to be the guardian of the stone, the MacDara clan.
In the 10th Century, two people from the clan were tasked to do the unthinking to protect their legacy: time travel, when Alec Danann MacDara ends up meeting a special woman and who, in a way, with her irresistible way of being and her sculptural body, could put everything to lose.
Sadie Williams was all the distraction that Alec didn't need, but despite taking his responsibility seriously, he would do anything to keep the woman by his side who didn't belong to his time, but was his soul mate...
The book had all the ingredients to hold my attention: romance, warriors, time travel.
But for some reason I couldn't be drawn into the development of the story. Some parts were boring and the ending - the resolution between the main couple, was too fast.

I really struggled with this read.
It's not that I didn't like it at the beginning but it was just not super addictive.
There were a few things that bothered me but in overall it was quite an entertaining story and the male character was Scottish so... you know I'm weak.
The thing is that, halfway through the book and especially at the end, Sadie becomes really annoying. It was on its way to a 3 star review but... nope. It's really too bad because the story had potential. It is a time-travelling story set in the US with a Scottish family coming from the Highlands. Most of the characters were great. The plot started well but it all went down when the focus became Sadie. And I was really frustrated because we had a great fantasy plot that could have been amazing but was, sadly, not exploited.
I'm sad. But, I guess I don't regret it. At least, I got to meet Alec (who was still sometimes over the top, but still a good character). His protective side was really hot!
