I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a truly wonderful story. The characters are wonderful and plot was well developed. It kept me reading until I finished. I LOVE this type of romance genre. The wonderfully strong alpha warrior from olden days come into modern time. It is swoon-worthy!!!!! I can’t wait for the second book!!!!! Alec and Sadie totally deserve one another and I hope they have recurring roles in the next story.
Alec and his family have traveled from the past to protect the sacred Heartstone. They currently live in North Carolina and run a theme park as their cover. Sadie is an assistant for her sister's production company. She has been corresponding with Alec to get permission to film on his property. He, along with everyone else, dislike her sister on sight, but welcome Sadie with open arms. Sadie has a difficult time accepting that Alec chooses her over her sister; her sister is sophisticated and thin while Sadie is curvy and has been emotionally abused by her adopted family her whole life.
Will Sadie and Alec find a way to overcome the hurdles that stand in their way to a happily ever after?
Alec and his family are wonderful and Sadie has been put down so often that she believes she is unlovable. Alec and Sadie are made for each other, but she needs a lot of convincing that he is really interested in her. A nice easy read for those that like a little time travel and modern highlander story. Look forward to the other siblings' stories.
Predictable plot, but well written and overall an enjoyable read.
I have loved Maeve Greyson’s Highland books since I first discovered her Highland Hearts series and now, I am so lucky to starting Book #1 of her Highland Hearts series and just by reading the first book SADIE’S HIGHLANDER - I can tell that this is going to be just as engaging, funny and sensual as her prior series.
Alec MacDara and his brothers and family traveled forward in time to be the protectors of the sacred Heartstone. They are now owners and operators of a theme park called Highland Life and Legends. As the chairman of this enterprise, Alec has been keeping the real castle and it’s treasures separate, while fending off a plethora of requests to film on the grounds. However after some very charming letters from a production assistant, he agrees to a meeting. At first, the minute he meets the CEO of the company he realizes what a mistake he’s made, but then he notices her assistant. The woman with lush curves who is so down to earth he almost forgets his name!
Sadie Williams is the sister to the owner of the motion picture company who has for years kept Sadie in the lowliest of positions while Sadie waits for her sisters promise of one day becoming a writer. However Sadie was shocked when Alec agreed to allow the picture company upon one condition! Sadie would have to live in the castle and report to Alec every day of the company’s progress. Sadie agrees but wonders why Alec looks at her as if he was waiting to gobble her up! Knowing she was a bit on the chubby side and having always been told by her sister she was ugly, Sadie didn’t know what to think of the hunky Highlander who thought she was beautiful!
Fabulous, funny and sexy - couldn’t ask for more and Maeve Greyson delivers in spades!!!

While the time travel premise is a little bit silly, Alec was just the man for Sadie. She needed someone to empower her to stand up to her sister and her sister's cronies. He needed someone understanding and loving. Fun read.
True, un-yielding love does exist. Sadie is a writter who is trying to make it big. The problem isn't that she can't write, but that her older sister holds the keys to whether her writing is accepted in Hollywood or not, and she isn't a nice person. Sadie is her do all person because she wants her break, but her sister is a liar and wants what she wants at whatever the cost. Sadie is the one to take the blame, even when it isn't her fault.
Alec MacDara is one of the protectors of the Heartstone, thrown into a time and place much different than his birth in order to protect it. He is fiercely loyal and will do whatever it takes to protect his own.
Sadie and Alec are put together when her sister sets her sights on MacDara land for a new movie. Sadie, the writer between the two woman intrigues Alec and it spurs him to allow them to film on his land. Through a series of events both good and bad Alec and Sadie form a relationship with dangers and interference. Can Alec prove he truly cares for Sadie? Will Sadie realize her own demons and let them go? All questions that are faced in this fascinating story.
Enjoyable time travel story. Sweet romance story with some humor thrown into the mix.
This was so fun! Highland men? Check. Strong heroine? Check. Time Travel? Check.
The time travel was a tiny bit of the story - so do not let that deter you from picking this gem up. The interaction of all the characters drew me in, I found myself really caring about the great ones and hating the ones you were supposed to hate. I found myself racing through it to see what would happen. Waiting anxiously for the 2nd one.
Sadie just wants one person to care about her, to want her but while she doesn't have a wicked step mother she sure got the stepsister in the person of her adoptive sister. Enter Alex, a time traveling highlander come forward to protect his people and their legacy.
The quirky humor was just the thing to make this story fun and a quick read
I recommend it highly
A well written historical romance about Sadie and Alec. I like historical stories very much so I had high hopes for this. I liked the story line. The story flows nicely without big breaks. The characters are both well described and develops through the story. They are strong, passionate and likable people. There is some chemistry between Sadie and Alec but I would have like more. I liked their families as supporting characters. It made me laugh, sigh and cry a bit. There are drama, action, passion and emotional ups and downs.
I feel that it would have benefitted with an epilogue to round up the story or an ending that was a bit different.
I look forward to reading about the other brothers - hint :)
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book for my honest review!
Since finishing the Highland Hearts series by Ms Greyson, I have looked forward to reading her new series. However, I was a little disappointed in this first book of this series. The previous series really displayed the author's vivid imagination in her writing. This was a very enjoyable read, certainly a cut above most books of the genre, but some of the events were a little predictable. The storyline starts with great promise, a protector family on the cusp of being overrun by their enemies is transported to a new life in the future. I would have liked to have read some about their early days adjusting to their new life. The storyline evolves around Alec, the oldest son and Sadie who has been under her sister's thumb her whole life. Although their romance is the main story, it also is about Sadie coming to believe in herself and her talent with Alec's help. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Love this book. Definite read again. There’s an instant attraction between Alec and Sadie. Great characters. Emotional read. (laughter, sadness, sniffles) Alec is so sweet Alex and Sadie both have trust issues. Alec has a secret that could affect their future. Sadie makes a decision that affects their relationship and Alec is determined to prove to Sadie that she is all he wants in his future. Recommended read like be reading Maeve Greyson’s book. Great story teller.
This is a time travel romance which I am not a real fan of and I generally stick strictly to historical romance. However decided to read something other than my norm. The story had good characters with plenty of humor. For me this was an okay story I just have a hard time reading time travel.
This was a wonderfully sweet Highland historical romance with plenty of heat!!
I really enjoyed this one! The premise of the series is fantastic and the MacDara family is awesome! Alec was swoon worthy and just alpha enough to make me fall for him as quickly as Sadie did. Sadie was so vulnerable and fragile and I hate that she accepted the way she was treated by her sister (the horrible, lying witch) and everyone else.
*thanks to the publisher for sharing a copy of this with me*
Sweet romance with a bit of humor! I really enjoyed this book!
As always a big thank you to Random House Loveswept and NetGalley for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this review.
In the last series that I read by Maeve Greyson the heroines travelled back to tenth century Scotland but in this first book of the Highland Protectors the hero's have jump forward into the twenty first century. Which is awesome, though they have adapted by the time the story really gets going it was interesting to see Alec's reaction to all the changes. I am usually not too fond of books with a fantastical aspect to them, but something about Maeve's books just intrigues me. They are all so well written. Another thing I really love is that Alec takes such an instant liking to Sadie and the attraction is explosive. I love how protective of her he is when it comes to her interactions with her sister. The one thing that made me so very sad was that Sadie was so easily hurt by her sister. I wish she would have been a stronger person, but if she was it might have not worked so well with Alec.
I give this book 5 time jumping kisses.
Happy Reading... Adri
I've read my fair share of time traveling Scottish Highlander books. More than my fair share. I expect them to have kilts, alpha males, fish out of water jokes, seriously hot romance. You get all of that in Sadie's Highlander, but it still didn't quite do it for me. I want my romantic hero to be strong, and possessive, but I want it to be in a consensual way. Instead the comments that Alec made throughout the book about beating his sister or kidnapping Sadie were grating at best. I get it, he's from the 10th century, but I'm in the 21st and it made me want to read him a feminist riot act. Then, Sadie talked about her weight A LOT, but not in an empowering way. Rather she was always seeking validation for her appearance from outside influences. Admittedly, this book was not for me.
In Scotland in the tenth century Alec MacDara is charged not only keeping his family safe but the Heartstone a blessed stone which fuels humankinds most basic instincts the need to love hope and evolve without it civilizations would cease to exist safe too. Unfortunately while protecting the stone the keep is being attacked by people that want to claim it. In the thick of the battle while trying to protect it the goddesses see fit to transport the entire MacDara clan to a different time twenty first century North Carolina a time of peace. When Sadie Williams first meets Alec he is swinging a sword and she can’t help but be entranced by him. Alec is part owner and CEO of Highland Life and Legends a theme park of Scottish myth, lore/legends and kind of holds Sadie’s life in his hands. Sadie and her sister Delia have asked Alec to use the theme park as a filming location for a movie. Alec has conditions of his own and one is that Sadie will be assigned to Alec for the extent of the six weeks of filming. Will Sadie do it without losing her heart to Alec and can Sadie handle Alec’s biggest secret of all?
I have brought a few of Ms. Maeve Greyson’s stories just really never getting the chance to read any of them except for this one. I so love a good Scottish highlander story filled with wonderful characters that are real with a story I can literally sink my teeth into. Ms. Greyson gives me that and so much more. The story might jump around a little in the beginning but after that it keeps me firmly rooted in modern times with a highlander hero that not only makes me cheer for him but dare I say it is perfect fodder for a book boyfriend that yes I couldn’t help but fall for him. The story moves effortlessly with a certain charm and the scenes magically came alive if Highland Life and Legends really existed I seriously would want to go.
As I said the hero Alec MacDara was just the perfect Scottish highlander handsome, caring and pretty yummy that made me want to lick him up truly a great hero to fall for too. I think throughout most of the book I couldn’t help but drool over him just like Sadie not because he was so beautiful and compassionate but he just had the perfect makings of a book boyfriend that I have to add him to my list of book boyfriends not only that I kind of fell for him too. Sadie was an equally great heroine smart, savvy, curvy, feisty and intelligent what’s not to like about her. Okay sure I wanted every time her sister put her down or made fun of her I wanted her to beat the ever living daylights out of her. Yes they are sisters and the sibling rivalry is there but really her sister is just a battle-ax she kind of deserved everything she got maybe she needed a little more. In a sense I didn’t want the book to end and the ending felt a little rushed but still the book was good. Of course I do hope Ms. Greyson writes about Alec’s brothers Ramsey, Ross and Grant also his sister Esme because this book was such a joy to read that I can’t wait to read it again!
