I really liked the premise of this and I'm a sucker for the start of a new series.
I liked Sadie and Alec. They're both passionate and stubborn and genuinely nice people. Their banter was amusing and the family dynamic was a lot of fun. I especially loved all of the older women putting then men in their places. Sadie's sister was a real hag and I wish we would have seen more of her demise.
Plot wise, it seemed like a lot of tell and not show. The thread about the druids and the heartstone didn't feel fleshed out. More often than not, Sadie and Alec tumble into bed instead of talking and I'm still not entirely sold on their chemistry. However, there were some sweet moments and a few hero/saving scenes and those were the things that kept me reading.
Overall, it was a quick and cute read. I would have liked an epilogue or an extra chapter at the end as it all felt fairly rushed. I am interested in the next book, but it will depend on who it features.

It’s been years since I’ve read a time travel romance and I was so excited to get this one. Alec and his family are in charge of protecting the Heartstone which feeds love and hope into all mankind. When they are in danger of falling under the attack of the enemy, the goddesses send them forward into time.
Sadie has never known love. Her life has been filled of insecurities and emotional abuse. Alec finagles her into his life and home having been drawn to her from the first “wee email” he received from her. What follows is a sweet love story as these two grow closer together. When Sadie’s sister does the unthinkable, Sadie takes the blame and Alec must find a way to show her not only what an astonishing woman she is but how much he loves her.
This was a steamy story with plenty of humor and great secondary characters. I did feel that the length of time after this couple’s separation was too long and filled with scenes that did not add to the story itself. I enjoyed it and would love to see where this author takes the brothers in future books.

Sadie’s Highlander opens with a bang as the entire MacDara clan is transported through time, extracted from a fierce 10th century battle by protective goddesses, in order to keep safe the sacred Heartstone. The first person Alec MacDara meets is Dwyn MacKay.
“I am guardian and tutor to all the druids here. I shall see to it that the MacDara clan does well and continues their legacy to the goddesses and humanity as the protectors of the Heartstone—the sacred stone of hope and love itself.”
“And this place is?” Alec asked, still squinting against the blinding light.
“Twenty-first century North Carolina. Welcome to the future, m’lad.”
In the fifteen years since their arrival in North Carolina, Alec MacDara and his three brothers have become extremely successful, parleying their past into the creation of modern theme park. Alec is the chairman of Highland Life and Legends.
Forget the roller coaster. Where do I get a ticket to ride him? Sadie Williams peered over the tops of her sunglasses, inching them lower to get an unobstructed view of the man currently flexing his assets. Damn. What an import. I bet he’s one of Scotland’s finest.
What an enticing picture Alec makes to an ogling Sadie Williams, with his “modified kilt, a tighter, sexier version, more like a gladiator’s short toga.” Sadie’s sister Delia runs a movie business: the sisters are at the theme park to take a meeting with Alec MacDara. Fiercely protective of his family’s legacy and the treasure within, Alec has never permitted filming at the park but over the past months, he’s been inundated with charming, irresistible emails from a persistent production assistant.
“I assume yer the writer of the emails?” Alec asked, his deep brogue melting into what could only be described as a wonderfully audible caress.
“Uhm . . . yes, I am.” Sadie ignored Delia’s irritated huff and extended her own hand.
An “irritated huff” is just the beginning for Delia. Vain and capricious, she is furious that Alec is not falling at her Louis Vuitton clad feet. How dare Alec be cordial to her sister and ignore her charms?
“Just let me do the talking. None of your stupid jokes or idiotic attempts at humor. Keep your mouth shut, your back to the wall, and take notes like a good little mute assistant or this meeting will be your last. Understand?”
Hearing Delia freely abuse Sadie brings to mind Cinderella toiling mightily to serve her demanding step-sisters. Alec will have none of it. He makes a non-negotiable demand that Sadie be his liaison with the film company.
Alec rounded the table, stood directly beside Sadie, and held out his hand. “Ye will be assigned to me for the extent of the six weeks of filming. Private quarters at MacDara Keep will be provided for yer comfort. Ye’ll want for nothing.”
Say yes Sadie! But Sadie is apprehensive about MacDara’s offer—what’s his angle? Delia, in her trademark vicious fashion, ignores Sadie’s worries.
“Are you that dense? For some strange reason the man wants you. Must have a fetish for fat girls or something. Consider yourself lucky. You. With a man like that? Six weeks of riding a prize Scottish stud. You should thank me—and whatever sex god that decided to drop him in your lap.”
Maybe Delia has a point—not! Sadie stiffens her resolve and negotiates on her own behalf. In return for accepting Alec’s offer, she demands that her sister put her on the team of screen-writers. Sadie’s dream is to be a screen-writer and this is her chance to make her dreams come true. Any guesses on who the real-life hero of her screenplay will be? Sadie’s Highlander is a lusty, luscious story—and the icing on the cake is that it’s the first of Maeve Greyson’s Highland Protectors series. More men in kilts to come!
Sadie Williams is a production assistant in a movie production company owned by her sister. Sadie had to convince Alec MacDara, to allow the production company to film on his property, the Highland Life and Legends theme park.
Alec MacDara and his family traveled through time to protect the Heartsone and the theme park is used as their cover. Alec agrees to the use of the park after meeting Sadie who he fell in love with.
Sadie has a problem with self-esteem because of her sister and the way she was raised. Alec helps Sadie with her self-esteem and Sadie helps Alec forget about the past.
I loved reading this book and I would definitely recommend it. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
A Cinderella-esque romance with Scots and time-travel!
Sadie’s Highlander is book one in Maeve Greyson’s Highland Protector series. Love, laughter and magic makes this a must-read!
Sadie Williams has big dreams of making a name for herself in screen-writing. It’s the reason she lets herself be her sister’s lackey. Her new role? Being her sister’s assistant as they shoot a highlander movie.
That changes when she meets brawny highlander, Alec MacDara, and he requests Sadie be his on-set assistant for six weeks. He’s not willing to let Sadie be on the sidelines. But there’s a lot more to the MacDaras than meets the eye.
The world-building in this book is fantastic. The MacDaras are the chosen ones to protect the Heartstone—a stone that makes life worth living and keeps love and hope in the world. They are thrown into the modern times in wooded North Carolina where they run a Highland Life and Legends business. Things get complicated when a modern-day insecure vixen takes center stage.
Sadie is an absolute treasure as heroine! She’s adopted, has insecurities about her curves, but she is determined to do whatever it takes to become a screen writer. However, she's subjected to the whims of her evil sister to make that happen. This part felt very Cinderella-esque to me. I love a good twist on a fairy tale. Meeting Alec wreaks further havoc as Sadie is pulled in different directions.
Alec is a deliciously refreshing character. What you see is what you get, and I love how he isn’t afraid of putting himself out there. A few scenes felt a little clichéd, but I will say there’s a food scene…hot tamales, guys!
*insert flames here*
My main complaint was that the Heartstone/time travel storyline doesn’t play as big of a part. The family has been settled in North Carolina for 15 years, and I so love seeing a transplanted hero or heroine as they first go about discovering their new world. I'm left wondering what will happen next and if something bigger is afoot.
Sadie’s Highlander is a refreshing and fun time-travel story that will pull at your heartstrings. Prepare to fall in love with this world.
4 stars!

Of all the Druid clans, the strongest was the goddesses of the MacDara bloodline. More devoted and trained by the warrior goddess. MacDara men and their sons mastered the four relic weapons sword, hammer, shield and spear. No better archers could be found but MacDara females.
Yet the MacDara clan were gifted with the highest honor. That is to guard and protect the blessed Heartstone. This is an ancient relic that contains a special unique energy that made every human’s life special, unique and worth living. To love, hope, evolve and live, without this gift civilization on earth would not be the same. Plus eventually the world would cease to exist. Yet as time went on the meaning of the stone and the lore was forgotten, lost in the circle of time and the mist. Though not forgotten by all existing by the Druid clans.
The MacDara descendents know exactly the cost. As in the tenth century they were brutally attacked and knows what it nearly cost their existence! Yet the three goddesses save Alec MacDara, his three brothers, his parents, younger sister and bring them to North Carolina in the twenty-first century . The MacDara’s will protect the blessed stone at any cost. As they know they must thrive and never cease to exist! No matter what century the goddesses place them in to save and protect.
North Carolina present day 2017.
Highland Warrior and time traveler, Alec MacDara and his three warrior brothers travel forward in time. This is to protect the sacred ancient relic Heartstone. They masquerade and keep under complete secret and under the guise and deception as owners and operators of a theme park. The park is called Highland Life and Legends.
As of late the chairman and CEO of the theme park, Alex has been ignoring and refusing request to film on its lands and premises. Then he meets gorgeous Sadie Williams, the sister of the motion picture company owner. It is the first time he can put away his 10th century Scottish home out of mind. He agrees to allow her to film as long as she reports to him every day.
As Alex can't help but be extremely attracted to this beautiful female. A woman who doesn't realize her self worth or full potential due to her evil sister Delia. Delia who had always treated Sadie as if she was something beneath her shoe. Due to Sadie being adopted, this cruel treatment Sadie has to endure gives self esteem and confidence issues and always feels like an insecure mouse. As her job is lonely assistant but her dream is to become a brilliant confidant screen writer!
Then this irresistible Highlander is a major confidence builder. Just exactly what Sadie needs to be the woman she was meant to be. As the sparks between these two fly and build into something remarkable. The question is will these two and their feelings be enough to build a bond strong enough to last forever?
A beautiful enchanting story, that will warm time-traveler fans hearts and leave them spell bound. Some major heart pulling moments so have your tissues ready. As a fan of Maeve Greyon’s page turning exhilarating reads, I highly recommend you check this and her previous “Highland Hearts” series which is absolutely fabulous. I wonder which brother and what relic weapon will belong to Grant, Ross and Ramsay as the sword is Alec’s relic weapon. I also wonder if the youngest sister will get a book as an expert archer. Well I guess us readers have no choice but to wait and see.

I received this book the publisher for a fair and honest review. I voluntarily agreed to read, review, blog and promote through netgalley. All words, ideas and thoughts are my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic ARC of this novel, received in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy Highlander romance novels with hot, hunky alpha warriors in kilts since my all-time favourite book is Outlander.
This one had some time travel and a hot Scottish Highlander but he fell for the heroine far too quickly. Sadie is a wishy washy doormat who believes she deserves nothing good because her sister, Delia, has convinced her of this. Apparently she writes really great e-mails but I found it hard to believe that's all it took to win Alex over after no interest in any woman for 15 years.
Sadie's low low self-esteem was a bit much at times. The insta-love and steamy scenes weren't my favourite either. It was more like erotic romance. There were some great secondary characters that I enjoyed like Esme and Alec's brothers. Delia just walked away with no consequences which I didn't like and the ending was frustrating and silly. Just not one of my favourite highland romances.
Sadie has been treated badly by her family ever since she was adopted years ago. Not as thin or conventionally pretty as her sister, she thinks no one would ever love her. Then she meets Alec, a Highlander mysteriously from another time. When he gets a look at Sadie he knows that she is the one. Those delectable curves and sassy spirit call to him. But can she accept the reality of his life? Fun historical fiction --
Awesome, hot book. The fast pace of the story made this a quick read and drew me in immediately. I felt like I was right there with Sadie and Alec and really wanted to give Delia a piece of my mind as well.
I am voluntarily submitting my review after receiving an ARC of the ebook via NetGalley.
I am a sucker for Highland romance novels with hot, hunky alpha warriors in kilts, and this one had a promising start with a creative spin on the traditional formula. This family of mouthwatering heroes has a valourous cause, but has been transported to modern-day North Carolina to fulfill their destiny. From there, things fall apart a bit. Sadie, our downtrodden heroine, lives underneath the thumb of her sister. With Alec's love and support, she seems to blossom and find some backbone, yet there really is no resolution of her main problem--her sister. And the novel's ending, while heartwarming to be sure, is really just too over the top and sappy for my taste--and that is not something I find myself saying often. Still, the book is an uplifting, quick read good for chasing the blues away. Fans of sweet, sexy Highlander romances might enjoy this novel, even though it wasn't quite my cup of tea. Still, I have read other books by this author that I have really enjoyed, so I plan to continue to try others to see if they are more to my taste.
SPOILER A:LERT!!! STOP READING NOW!!! I mean it...Really...
OK--I warned you. Here it is...
These are the main reasons I didn't enjoy this novel as much as others by the author.
Delia is able to dupe everyone far too easily for belief. How can one devious human pull the wool over the eyes of an immortal druid, a family of time travelling druids and her sister who already doesn't trust her? All Sadie would have had to do was speak up and say she thought her sister was up to something. Surely there would have been enough staff members at Highland Life and Legends that someone could have been left behind to watch Delia and her film crew, even if Sadie hadn't spoken up given that no one trusted her! Given the extraordinary measures the MacDaras went to in protecting the Heartstone and the sacred weapons and the number of times they talk about how little they trust Delia, it is simply too hard to believe that no one would have been keeping an eye on Delia.
And after the explosion, for a woman as smart and cynical and unsure of her own worth as Sadie is, there is just no way she wouldn't figure out Alec's ruse long before the book's final scene. Really? An entire suite filled with her favorite type of lily even though it is out of season? Strawberries and cream in the refrigerator after the unforgettable first sex scene in the book? The same champagne she shared with Alec? Sadie already had her suspicions about the entire thing being a scam, so all of that, combined with the letterhead using the same symbols she saw on the Heartstone should have let her figure it all out in the hotel suite, if not sooner.
In addition, after all the harm she causes, Delia never really gets the karma coming to her. She is allowed to simply fade away with no more than a punch to the nose, while Sadie works for weeks cleaning house and washing dishes. This element of the plot feels unresolved.
With some minor reworking to these elements of the story, I would give this book a much higher rating. Because I read an uncorrected proof of this novel and other novels by the same author that I have read have been better, I am likely to read the next book planned for the series despite my low rating of this novel.
Sadie was adopted into a very emotionally cold family at an early age. Her parents and sister Delia, never let her forget that she was different and inferior to them. Unfortunately, Sadie's finances are in the control of Delia, who makes Sadie work for her as an assistant in her movie production company. Delia is vain, cruel and dishonest, but Sadie is not. Alec and his family are from a special Clan that was sent from the past into the future so they could protect the Heartstone, a gift from the goddesses. They own a Highland themed park, where Delia wants to film her next movie. Sadie, as Production Assistant, has been in contact by email trying to get permission to film on the site, and these emails have come to the attention of Alec, who is taken with the person he sees behind the emails. The sisters meet with Alec and his family and a deal is worked out, but one of the conditions is Sadie must stay and spend time with Alec. This book gets very hot, very fast as both Sadie and Alec are very attracted to each other and act on it. Then when Delia is Delia and nearly causes a disaster, Alec must work very hard to convince Sadie that she is a desirable choice.
Reminded me of Outlander . I liked the story, the characters were interesting. Kinda predictable though.
I really liked the idea of the forward type of time traveling in Sadie's Highlander by Maeve Greyson. The North Carolina setting where the Highland Games are really held in the mountain region is a big deal, so it is fitting that Highland Life park would be located there. All of that served to make this unbelievable wonderful fantasy story plausible if it could actually happen.
How Sadie Williams and Alec MacDara’s story at first seems to be seemed a new rendition of Cinderella with only one obnoxious sister. However, Alec MacDara and his brothers, swoon worthy that they most certainly are, have a higher calling in this world. Surprisingly, there is a unexpected kindness in the warrior Alec that was truly appreciated, so it is no wonder Sadie fell so hard for him early. True love is found but not without its struggles, while Sadie finally learns to stand up for herself. It was great that Alec gave her confidence instead of her just relying on him.
This fantasy is a well-written, good fun novel. The first of what is hoped to be a series titled Highland Protector, whose job it is to protect the Heartstone. As much as ever, humanity in the twenty-first-century have need of love and to hope for a better future.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I requested it as it featured time travel and Scottish history, both of which are genres that have interested me in the past.
The novel began with a prologue describing how the MacDara family were transported from Medieveal Scotland to the US in present day charged with protecting the "Heartstone".
In chapter 1 we immediately see Sadie, the heroine (and gofer for her famous sister) lusting after the hero of the story in a very graphic way. I found this a little off-putting. I prefer relationships that are built on more than just sexual attraction. This put me off reading for a bit but I eventually got back to the story and for the most part found it enjoyable. Sadie has been a victim of her sister's bullying for so long that she is used to being taken advantage of and is rather lacking in the self esteem department. She is a woman with curves who long to be a writer for her sister's film productions and Alec MacDara is instantly smitten with her. He allows her sister to film on his family land under the agreement that Sadie must work directly with him and will be held responsible for any problems that arise. And of course problems do arise.
Alec's family are a delight and it is easy to see how this book lends itself to sequels following different family members. Sadie's sister on the other hand is horrific and deserves to pay for her actions.
Although there is lots of "thinking" about having sex, it actually doesn't happen till further on in the book but when it does take place once again I found it more graphic than I personally prefer. To each his own. Would I read other novels in this series? Yes, I probably would. 3.5 stars
Oh my, what a fabulous time travel story, this is the beginning of the Highland Protectors, a family chosen by the Goddesses to protect the ancient relic called the Heartstone. They transported the family from Scotland in the 10th century to 21st century North Carolina and to the four brothers, Alec, Ross, Grant and Ramsay MacDara, powers in the shape of artefacts to help protect it.
This is Alec's story and his artefact is the sword.
I enjoyed the camaraderie and interaction between the characters and I was pulled in from the first page and couldn't put it down.
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley and I voluntarily leave my own opinion
Highland warrior Alec MacDara and his brothers traveled forward in time to protect the sacred Heartsone. Their cover? Owners and operators of a theme park called Highland Life and Legends. As the chairman, Alec has been fending off requests to film at the breathtaking property. It’s only because of the charming correspondence from an enterprising production assistant that he agrees to a meeting at all. That’s when Alec meets a woman whose lush curves make him forget, for the first time, all about tenth-century Scotland.
A lowly assistant for her sister’s motion picture company, wannabe screenwriter Sadie Williams is shocked when Alec agrees to let them film at the park upon one condition: that she report to him daily. Sadie’s sister always told her that their parents only adopted her because they felt sorry for the ugly little stray. But Alec looks at Sadie like she’s the most tempting creature in the world. And with his gleaming, musclebound body stripped down to nothing but a hip-hugging kilt and boots, Alec clearly knows a little something about temptation.
Alec MacDara and his family are druids in charge of the Heartstone. The Heartstone is the item that brings hope, love and creativity to the world. The MacDara family were brought forward in time by goddesses from the 10th century to modern day North Carolina to protect the Heartstone, and the family. They began and have run Highland Life and Legends theme park for many years.
Sadie Williams’ sister owns a film company and wants to film at Highland Life and Legends. Sadie emails Alec thinking that an assistant of some sort would be reading the emails. Alec actually reads them and is so enthralled with the sender that he agrees to an interview. The film company gets the right to film at HL&L but Alec has the stipulation that Sadie must stay at his home with his family the full six weeks for filming.
While Sadie is at the MacDara household she gets closer with Alec and soon they fall in love. Unfortunately Sadie’s sister, the evil beast that she is, ruins everything and soon Sadie is on her own once again.
Right after I received an eARC from NetGalley I opened this book up as I was pretty excited to read it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very far into it when I put it back down. Alec seemed creepy and I wasn’t sure about him at all. When the book title came up in my schedule again I wasn’t sure I wanted to finish it but I actually started from the beginning once again and gave it a fair shot. I think it might have been my state of mind that had previously made him seem creepy – he wasn’t. That said he was completely smitten by Sadie even before he met her and once they’d met he was like a puppy with a bone he couldn’t put down. They fell in love extremely quickly – like in a couple of days and that didn’t feel right to me. Sadie kept vacillating back and forth and that drove me nuts. They got engaged within days and yeah…that just doesn’t happen. (OK, I’m sure it does but extremely rarely IRL.)
The part that had to do with Sadie’s sister was ridiculous, imho. I guess Sadie had been conditioned by her sister to accept blame for everything the sister did, but I think Sadie took it to the nth degree and that was just too far. She put her relationship with Alec on the line because of something her sister did and it just didn’t ring true.
I’d love to say that what Alec did to win Sadie back to wonderfully romantic but I just didn’t think so. I wanted him to just talk to her instead of coming up with this incredible ruse – like that’s what he needed to convince her to be with him. IDK, seemed far-fetched to me.
Overall the story was decent but there was enough in there that bothered me that I’m not sure I can recommend this one.

This will post as a guest review on Book Binge.

I was captivated by this romance. It was fantastic. I read it in one sitting, it was so good. I didn’t really know what to expect going into the novel. I was a little hesitant about the whole time travel magic aspect and while I'm still not sure how I feel about the Druid and magic part of the novel, I did enjoy every other aspect. The characters, the feel of novel, and ultimately the romance were all on point.
Sadie is an amazing character. I love her views on her body and how women are depicted in social media. But my favorite part about Sadie was her inner monologue, without fail it always made me laugh.
Another thing that made me laugh was Alec and his family. Nothing is funnier than a big burly Scotsman getting embarrassed by his mommy. But I loved the family bond Alec's family had and how they interacted with on another. It gave the novel a homely touch.
Once thing I always like to mention when it comes to romance novels especially are the sex scenes. I am aware that not everyone is comfortable with sex scenes. If that is the case then you shouldn’t read this novel. There are many steamy and very detailed sex scenes. Hint: I will never look at a strawberry the same again. But if you’re looking for a hot novel to knock your socks off then look no further, this baby has got it.
Overall, a sizzling romance with much laughter and love. It’s an amazing story, with amazing characters. My only complaint is that I want more and I am not very patient.
This was not my cup of tea. I got so sick about hearing how "fat" the lead was. Ok I get the point you wanted to show that "big" girls can get love too. It went way overboard was too obvious. Especially saying women who were thin were evil. I love how every man in the story was beautiful. No dad bod men here, but we had to make a point for the women in the story,
My review wasn't positive so I didn't post it.
Alec is a sexy highlander, and he wears sexy kilts and lives in a castle...in North Carolina. His family has been tasked by the goddesses to protect the heart stone, which is responsible for giving humans a reason to live. Kind of cheesy, but cute. They've been thrown from the tenth century into present time so the stone can be protected, and they've created this highland theme park. Enter Sadie, who is an aspiring screenwriter. She has a demon of a sister, who owns the motion picture company Sadie works for. She's basically stomped all over by everyone except Alec and his family. Sadie and Alec
Sadie and Alec have some good chemistry, and I loved how much Alec supported her. What bothered me was how Sadie just took her sister's shit and it took until the climax for her to stand up for herself. There was some insta-love going on too, and seriously the timeline of how their relationship developed was a little too much for me... My other issue was how Sadie learns about Alec's origins. She was understandably skeptical when he tried explaining it to her, but then she just has this epiphany and blindly accepts everything he's telling her.
Despite this, I still really enjoyed reading it. I love time travel in my books, and I really love sexy highlanders, so that was enough to keep me reading mostly happily. Sadie's sister was a real bitch, had no work ethic, and basically had no respect for anyone but herself. There was enough going on in the plot that I never got bored and I loved watching Sadie come to accept herself. This was an easy and quick read; perfect for the summer!
Sadie's Highlander, by Maeve Greyson is a compelling paranormal romance that mixes historical highlanders with contemporary times.
The MacDara clan is tasked with the honor of guarding the sacred Heartstone. Due to extreme difficulties and violence in 10th century Scotland, the MacDara family is transported to the 21st century in North Carolina.
Alec MacDara, a former Highland warrior, is now the CEO of a Scottish historical theme park called Highland Life and Legends, which his family owns and operators while concealing their ancient past and continuing to protect the secret Heartstone. When a Hollywood company requests to film at their theme park, Alec meets Sadie Williams, a struggling screenwriter and assistant to her obnoxious sister, and decides that she's perfect for him. Sadie is riddled with insecurities, yet she focuses on writing skills, as well as her attraction to Alec.
With a pleasant mix of modern day and historic highlander romance, it's a lovely story with captivating characters and humorous interactions, yet the ending was slightly disappointing and unfulfilling, especially compared to the rest of the highly enjoyable story. However, it's an ARC, so (hopefully) the ending will be adjusted in the final print.
Sadie's Highlander is the first book in the Highland Protector series, and it's geared towards those who enjoy reading contemporary and highlander romances.
Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
