This highlander book isn't the typical story. Instead of the tradition woman following back in time to fall in love with a Highlander the roles are reversed. The male highlander is in present day time living in North Carolina. I felt this story was very fast paced. It needed to be slowed down and more developed, the main characters fell in love as quickly as someone finishing their dinner. I also lacked much knowledge of the main character which hinders my empathy towards them.

One thing savvy readers of this blog will learn that I'm a very shallow person and sometimes yes, I am attracted solely by appearance.  Yes, I am one of those...when it comes to book covers!  Maeve is a new author for me but one of my favorite romance genres is men in kilts, so when I saw this cover, my finger could not hit the request button on Netgalley quick enough!!

The first thing I will say about this book is I love me some Alec!  There is nothing like a strong, protective Highlander wearing a kilt to enthrall a girl, even if he is in modern day North Carolina and not the highlands of yore.  And Sadie is definitely interested which is good because I would have been really worried if she wasn't...

There are a lot of great moments between them and the other characters, and I always love NICE yet sometimes irritating, interfering families, not a raving lunatic bitch of a sister.  (Was that mean? Read it, and I'm quite sure you will end up agreeing with me on her!)  Miss Martha and Dwyn are especially entertaining, and Harold...well, you readers that know me will understand why I liked him so much!

I can't wait for the next book in the series...who will be the next hot MacDara to fall?

I just loved Sadie and Alec and the chemistry they built over the story. Such an interesting take on the "time-bending" Scotsman with our crew landing in North Carolina! I was glad for Sadie's happy ending and is it too soon to hope that Alec's brothers get stories of their own?!

I can't even begin to express how much I loved this book. Finally a heroine who isn't "prefect" and doesn't end as "perfect"! Sadie has old issues with trust as well as issues with her self image. By the end of the book she's learning that she's perfect as is and that people love her for herself! I loved how Alec is able to help her reach that state. I do hope there more coming for her sister in the next book!

Sadie's Highlander is a modern day highland romance with a bit of time travel/paranormal thrown in. This is well written and executed.
The only reason I gave it four stars was that I had a really hard time getting into it and buying the storyline. I'm not going to give any details because I don't like spoilers.....

Let’s take a minute to drool over the cover of this book. It totally fits with the book. My mental image of Alec is definitely personified by the male model (the braid in his hair is a plus). The female model used for Sadie is dead on with my mental image of her. The cover shows the love Alec has for Sadie and vice versa. Kudos to whoever designed it because they obviously read the book and got a cover that matches the book. Not very often that it happens

I really was expecting Sadie’s Highlander to be one of those bodice-ripper romance novels. And in a way, it was. But what I wasn’t expecting was the feels I got from reading the book and the direction that the plot took. It was something that took me by surprise.

Sadie had an awful life. She had been abused her entire life by her older sister, Delia and she didn’t feel that she had any worth. It was awful to read how Delia treated Sadie and set the standard for how other people treated her. Sadie was at the bottom of the totem pole, the low woman in the pecking order at her job and in her personal relationship with Delia. It made me so mad to read those scenes because Sadie was so sweet. While I knew why Sadie didn’t want to tell Delia off, all about the money, I really wish that she did sooner….for my peace of mind.

Alec was one of the last druid Highlanders who had been magically transported to North Carolina to help protect the Heartstone from those that would use it for evil. He had fallen for Sadie while they were exchanging emails and seeing her in person sealed the deal for him. I liked him because he saw through Delia’s BS and saw the fake, evil person that she was. When Delia did something truly unforgivable (read the book), I really thought (and hoped) that he was going to kill her. Which disappointed me because he didn’t and he had to deal with Sadie’s emotional fallout.

Now, I wasn’t a fan of the Instalove but in this book, it actually worked. Which surprised me because I am firmly anti-Instalove. Go figure.

The sex scenes were super hot but I am not a fan of sex with food. Alec and Sadie’s first sex scene involved whipped cream (and I had a mental image of the whipped cream bikini from Varsity Blues running through my mind even though they didn’t use it like that) and strawberries. The whipped cream was fine but the strawberries were….interesting. Now they did get eaten but my main line of thought during that sex scene was “What if they get stuck? How would you explain that to the ER Doctor“. I had the same thought with the pecan pie scene….lol.

The end had to have been my favorite part of the book. Alec was doing everything and anything to show Sadie that she mattered. I ugly cried the end of the book. I can’t wait to read book 2!!

How many stars will I give Sadie’s Highlander: 4

Why: Great 1st book in a series. I can’t wait to see where this series is going to go!!

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Sex, language, and violence.

Maeve Greyson's new book "Sadie's Highlander" is an original -- not your standard run of the mill "Highlander" romance novel. If you love the Outlander series you will find some interesting and enjoyable detail in "Sadie's Highlander" that put me in mind of it several times.
The incredible main character is a terribly lonely, beaten down orphan named Sadie who doesn't believe she deserves to be loved., which makes it much harder for her new client (as well as Highland Chieftain) and soon to be lover Alec MacDara to overcome this mindset.. Complicating matters further are her wicked step-sister/bosses machinations to make Sadie's life even more miserable than it already is.
On one hand I found Sadie's character frustrating due to her constant belief that her step-sister would do the right thing when she had never done it in the past, but this "looking for the good" in people quality is part of what makes her what she is and part of why Alec falls in love with her. But it all comes out right in the end, so
if you want to read a Highlander novel with a different twist, I highly recommend "Sadie's Highlander".

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. I am a sucker for time-travel romances especially when the involve handsome Scottish warriors. Alex definitely fit the bill. Totally swoon-worthy. I felt Sadie could have gotten a little backbone though. I hated the way Delia walked all over her. All in all, a pleasant read.

Although he would never admit to it, Alec MacDara has fallen for a woman because of her spirited emails. Sadie Williams is the voice for her sister's desire to film a Scottish themed film on his family land, where they own a Scottish theme park-- and perhaps a little something more than that.

Alec quickly falls for Sadie and courts her. Sadie has self-esteem issues and cannot open her heart with all the damage of a life-time of mockery from the family that adopted her and dreams not yet unfurled without the necessary courage.

But when things get good, oh how good they are. Enjoy the journey, friends!

What a magnificent writer this author is! From beginning to end, I did not hesitate in reading! What a fantastic story! Historical, Scottish Warrior and Time travel all in one book. I must say that I am completely captivated by this authors gift of writing. Her way of pulling the reader into the story and as it goes along having them experience emotions from what is happening. Each chapter of this book was an artwork of writing. I was captivated, titillated, and totally enthralled inside the story. I could not put it down and when I finally finished it, I just wanted more immediately! It is hard to find books that are not copies or same old same old story. This was different. It has life, passion, love, romance, fun, adventure and characters that you will enjoy. So buy the book and experience a wonderful world of fantasy and imagination that will leave you wanting even more. I was given this book in return for a honest review. Anna

I know I shouldn't start with the end, but I loved the dedication, and it perfectly captured all that the book makes you feel. Alec and Sadie are the interlocking pieces of the puzzle, each different in their own way, yet connected. It was wonderful to see Sadie, who has been stepped on by her sister all her life, overcome her insecurities and even more awesome to see Alec, time traveler from the past, become everything she needed to shatter all those insecurities. Can't wait to read the next MacDara brother's story!

Maeve Greyson delivers another great book and beginning to a series in Sadie’s Highlander. Sadie is the adopted daughter to wealthy deceased parents who left her very little and left that little bit under control to a cruel, lying, selfish sister. Her sister, Delia, runs the family film business with Sadie as her assistant. Delia wants to film on location at a Highland Life and Legends theme park in North Carolina.

Alec MacDara and his family, parents, three brothers and a sister, live on the land in which the theme park is located. It is Sadie’s job to convince the MacDara’s to let them use their land. Sadie begins emailing Highland Life and Legends daily to try to win them over. She believes she is emailing an assistant like herself and begins to really open up to the ‘assistant’ about life in LA and the quirks of her job and the people around her. But, in reality, she is emailing Alec. He pretty much falls in love with her through the daily emails.

Alec and his family are the protectors and keepers of the heartstone and the weapons used to protect it. They were transported fifteen years earlier from Scotland to North Carolina by the three goddesses to whom they are responsible. The heartstone and weapons are under the castle and mountain located on the property, too. The castle will one day be Alec and his wife’s home once his heart finds his wife. Alec begins to believe through the daily emails that Sadie might just be her. There is something about her in the emails that calls to him.

Delia and Sadie make a visit to the theme park to convince the MacDara family of the benefits to them to allow Delia’s film to be filmed on their land. Alec’s agreement is that Sadie must stay with his family throughout the filming and they must stay away from the castle and the parcel of land surrounding it. Sadie finally agrees to stay with the family, but does not quite trust Alec. Delia, also, agrees to stay away from that section of land.

Sadie and Alec’s connection is quick and strong. Alec becomes her protector against Delia and those who work with her. Sadie must convince him that she has and can take care of herself, especially where her ‘evil’ sister is concerned. Sadie wants to be a screenwriter and knows she must placate Delia in order to hope to one day be allowed to write. Ms. Greyson wrote Sadie as a caring, humorous heroine who is a bit curvaceous and overweight, not your typical tall, thin, athletic heroine and you like her all the more for it.

Not one to give away a story, you know Sadie gets her highlander in the end – it’s the getting there that makes for a good tale. You will find their romance to be quite sensual at times as Ms. Greyson is gifted in writing that way, especially as Sadie learns the benefits of true highland dress for females, as well as, for males in their kilts. Just picturing Alec in a kilt is mouth watering.

You, too, will love the secondary characters as Alec’s family are included. Each of the brothers is responsible for one of the weapons in connection with the heartstone. We should get to see how as the series progresses. Esme, their fifteen year old sister, was born and raised in today’s time, not the Scotland of old from which they came. Reading about her growing up in the upcoming books of the series may be really entertaining as she is quite challenging and witty when frustrating her brothers.

This is a definite read as Maeve Greyson can weave a tale of historical Scotland ideals into modern day times beginning with a bit of time travel and folklore. Enjoy!

Sadie's Highlander by Maeve Greyson was a surprisingly refreshing historical modern time travel romance. It's the first book I've read by this author and with all the smiles and rapidly turning pages, it will not be my last. I appreciated the opportunity to read the book and Thank Netgalley and Loveswept for the ARC in exchange for a honest review. Link coming soon.

A great new highlander story by Maeve Greyson. Not a lot of time traveling like her previous series but still a wonderful story about Alec, a 10th century Scottish highlander sent into the future to protect the Heartstone with his family. Some years later, he meets Sadie and totally falls for her. The story was entertaining. The romance between Alec and Sadie was sweet and hot. The villain in the story was very hate-able. I totally wanted to bitch slap her. LOL. Sadie had some issues to overcome and it took her a bit too long for my taste to overcome them but with the past she had, it was understandable. But there was a HEA in the end so I was happy with how the story played out.

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Even though I read several genre's of romance novels, the Highlander is my first love. I could probably count on one hand the author's I feel master the Highlander: the culture, the history and of course the HOT men. Ms. Greyson is one I would include as a master of the Highlander.

I have read several of her books but I think this was my absolute favorite!

The MacDara family has been brought forward in time as they are the protector of one of the world's most important artifacts. A loss of these artifacts could mean the end of man. They now live in N. Carolina and run a Highland themed Park, which is also a cover to protect the artifact. Alec is the oldest of the MacDara brothers, not really ever feeling he will find love and have an heir.

Sadie works for her sister, who has a film production company and has asked to make a film in the Highland theme park. Sadie's sister is a total b**** and treats her more like a slave, demeaning her every chance she gets. Sadie has dreams of being a film writer and feels her sister may eventually give her a chance if she bides her time. Sadie was deemed useless by her parents also, so her self esteem is non-existent.

As soon as Alec meets Sadie and finds out she is the writer of the emails he received in regards to filming at the Park, he is determined to spend more time with her. He thought she was charming, witty and funny in the emails and when he sees her, she is also beautiful to him.

One of his conditions to letting the Park be used for filming is that she spends the days with him, explaining what is going on with the filming. Sadie's sister sees this as a plus and basically tells Sadie to do WHATEVER she must to keep him occupied and away from the film site as she is not known by sticking to agreements when filming.

Sadie is just as attracted to Alec and they succumb to the attraction eventually. How can this last when she will be heading back to LA after the film finishes? Alec has other plans.....

When Sadie's sister pulls one of her unorthodox stunts, Sadie just knows it is all her fault and she can never forgive herself, can never be a part of Alec's life. Can he convince her otherwise?

I fell in love with Alec right away...he's handsome, smart, honest and such a good man. He shows Sadie from the beginning that she is not the person she was treated like all her life. And when he needs to be really patient with her it's hard for him to not just throw her over his shoulder and take her home, like a caveman.

I love the way Sadie's character was handled, how her needs were addressed.

If you are a lover of Highlanders, this is a must read! I look forward to seeing more of the MacDara family.

This was a poor start to a series.
At the very start you are overloaded with information that has too many holes. The lead male Alec falls in love within 15% of the book. Sadie and Alec don't do anything but have sex right up till 70% it's boring and there is no story apart from the sex scenes. The whole backstory needed to be brought in. I was disappointed the brothers weren't described and we knew nothing about them. They are after all part of the story. I hope the author doesn't disappoint in the next book of the series. There is more to stories than sex.
Sadies sister is an evil woman and is up to no good, but just when it starts to get interesting the book is quickly ended like the author had enough and just wanted the story to end. This was a huge let down and I wouldn't recommend it to other historical romance lovers. I will however pick up book two with the hope things get explained and more detail on the family is told.

Terrific story, giving the time travel genre a little twist. This highland family is bent on saving a modern girl from her awful family and herself. Quirky townspeople, brawl highland men and an all knowing demigod make this touching story fun and very readable.

Sadie Williams is employed by her sister's movie company and allowed to work at the ultimate theme park in North Carolina, Highland Life and Legends. The owner and operator of the park is Alec MacDara who is actually a tenth century, Scottish Highland warrior and time-traveler who has been transported to the twenty-first century along with his brothers. Sadie has to work closely with Alec and is attracted to the handsome Highlander. An enjoyable story and a cast of characters that are likable and engaging. Recommended for lovers of time-travel and historical romance.
