I couldn't put this book down! I found myself sneaking away to read it every chance I got. The magic, creative characters, and Harry Potter-like story line drew me in and wouldn't let me go. I also appreciated the lessons taught by the characters' behaviors. I would definitely recommend this book to intermediate school age and beyond!

The Adventurers Guild is one of the best middle grade books that I've read this year! The cover is awesome-sauce and the synopsis sounded great so I wasn't too surprised. Although, both synopsis and cover has betrayed me on occasion.

One thing that this book did remind me of is table top gaming. Which I will admit—I cannot get into. However, the creativity and storytelling capabilities have translated well into this novel.

The friendship between Zed and Brock was endearing. I loved how they supported one another and had each other's back.

My favorite character, however, was a supporting character named Jett. He's a young dwarf that sacrificed himself for a friend and thus became disabled. I don't want to spoil too much here but I absolutely adored the fact that Jett didn't let his disability keep him from his quest. I'm really excited to see how they incorporate him into future installments. I'm sure many of my reader base knows that I'm a mom to special needs children so I loved to see a hero with a disability for children to look up to. It warmed my heart to see Jett still treated with respect and as a valued member of the team.

After reading I turned this book over to my twelve-year-old and she hasn't stopped fangirling since she read it. I actually had to tweet the authors to ask when the next installment was coming (fall 2018) so she'd stop bugging me about it!

Overall, this book was an enjoyable, quick read. I would suggest it to families that like tabletop gaming and fantasy books. Parents and children alike will be able to enjoy!

A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. All opinions are my own.

If you liked The Hunger Games and The City of Ember, you will like this book! It follows the same type story line, where the world has had a catastrophic event that causes only a few areas of survival. The story has it all: unlikely heroes, and surprising villains

Zed had always dreamed of joining the Mages Guild. The magical protection that the Mages offered to the city of Freestone, one of the last remaining safe havens in the world, drew him. As half-elf and half-human, Zed desperately hoped that his lineage would qualify him for the coveted role; however, since Zed came from the servant class, there wasn't a lot of hope that he would be chosen for such an illustrious position. If he was chosen to be a Mage, maybe he could travel to the elf city, Llethanyl, and see where his father was from... maybe he could meet someone else who looked a little like him. Brock, his fully-human best friend, had been groomed and prepared to take a place in the Merchant's Guild, a fitting position for the son of a merchant with a good head for business. When Guildculling Day comes around though, their dreams are snatched away by Alabalsel Frond, the leader of the Adventurers Guild, who chooses Zed to join her crew of ragtag warriors who defend the city from the Dangers, monsters lurking outside the city's protective magical barrier. Compelled by love for his friend and a top-secret mission, Brock impetuously volunteers to join the Adventures Guild with Zed. That is just the beginning of the adventure. Faced with many a seemingly-impossible task, together with their new friends, Zed and Brock and the other initiates work together to protect their beloved city from an unknown evil. Will they be able to figure out who is behind the wicked plot in time to save Freestone?

The Adventurers Guild by Zach Loran Clark and Nick Eliopulos is great middle grade fiction. With a healthy blend of exciting adventure and lovable characters, this story is a wonderful find! The camaraderie between Zed, Brock, and the other new initiates made me wish I could join the Adventurers Guild myself; who wouldn't want to have such loyal friends and battle mysterious monsters like kobolds and nagas... well, maybe I would skip the battles and go directly to the victory celebrations and the vats of ambrosia. I was drawn into the story quickly and stayed engaged until the end. My main complaint is that the story was over too soon. I am already ready to read the next installment. Although it is a fantasy, the story doesn't seem outrageous, unbelievable, or cheesy as I've experienced in other middle grade fiction, and I'm of the opinion that others will find the story as endearing as I did.

Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Hyperion for a copy of this book for review. All opinions contained above are my own.

After some kind of magical apocalypse has taken place, the world is full of ravenous monsters, and three children from different social classes find themselves in the respected but feared Adventurers' Guild. They are learn to trust each other and their unconventional leader. Then they rise to the challenge of saving their city from treachery and incompetent leadership. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

This is a great start to what, I hope, will be a long series of adventures in a fascinating world full of monsters, treachery, politics, and magic. The story is told in alternating viewpoints between two engaging protagonists, one, a half-elf with blooming magical skills, the other, a crafty merchant's son who is being drawn deeply into a world of spying and questionable alliances. I suspect this series will be a big hit!

I really liked this middle grade fiction story about kids in class based society that seems to value magic but not magical people. The story revolves around three main characters who come from different walks of life-one is from an upper class, one from a comfortable middle class, and one from the servant class. Each of them are pulled into the guardian guild on the "Guildculling" which is the day when kids are given their jobs for life. This was a really exciting story with lots of interesting adventure. I think the kids will like it a lot.

Zed and Brock are best friends who live in Freestone, one of the last cities left after the Dangers came. It is the time of year when the young people of Freestone are apprenticed to their guilds. Zed, a half-elf, hopes to be placed with the mages. Brock hopes to be placed with the merchants to join the family business. The Guildeculling doesn’t go as they planned however as they both join the Adventurers Guild. The Adventurers are the only people who venture outside the wall of the city. They are led by brash, gruff Alabasel Frond, who is not afraid to put the new recruits in danger to prove they are worthy of being Adventurers. Zed and Brock and the other recruits soon learn that they have to think on their feet and rely on each other if they are going to survive. They also learn that things in Freemason are not what they appear and the whole city may be in danger. It is up to Zed and Brock and the rest of the Adventurers to save them all.

I actually liked this book way more than I thought I would. The world building was outstanding. Zed and Brock were delightful characters whose stories were told in alternating chapters. I don’t always like multiple author books, but I thought this worked really well. I actually read this straight through and was kind of sad that I didn’t have the second book already. It is a fast-paced adventure set in a world of high fantasy with magical monsters. Definitely a series kids are going to enjoy.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of the book.

The Adventurers Guild is SO good and I'm pretty excited that it's going to be a series. I went into this book looking for a book for my 7 year old to start after he finishes reading Captain Underpants and while it is definitely too advanced for him right now... it has found a fan in this mama.

This book has magic, monsters, and adventure. There are heroes and villains and characters that you're not quite sure about. This book doesn't leave you on a cliffhanger, but you definitely want to see what happens next for this unlikely group. I'm buying a copy of this book for our bookshelves and I'll be first in line for the next one when it comes out.

Good characters with diversity for the fantasy world (elf, dwarf, noble). A good plot with lots of adventure

First and foremost, many thanks go to NetGalley and Disney Hyperion for the chance to read this fantastic ARC.

Zed and Brock are the best of friends, even if they come from two very dissimilar classes of life. While Zed pines away at becoming a future member of the Mages Guild, Brock knows that his destiny holds a distinctly different route, the life of a merchant. However, both boys’ paths quickly change when they wind up in the Adventures Guild, and they must now face the Dangers that lie beyond the wall.

The Adventurers Guild was an enjoyable read, full of enjoyment and adventure. If your children/students love Rick Riordan or J. K. Rowling, you need to get to know the names Zack Loran Clark and Nick Eliopulos. Even with the dueling perspective and introductions of new guilds and characters, readers will easily be able to follow along with the story. I would personally rate this as a book middle school or even high school level book. While the verbiage is easy enough for middle-grade readers, some of the action scenes might be a bit repugnant, even for upper-level elementary readers.

I received an ARC edition from Disney Hyperion in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.

If you love Harry Potter and Keeper of the Lost Cities, you have to check out this new magical adventure tale about two friends - Zed and Brock - who have both been drafted to be part of the Adventurer's Guild. Their role is to fight the Dangers that lurk outside the walls of their protected city. Zed who is part-elf learns that he has strong magical abilities and his funny and loyal buddy Brock is always working to protect him. With new friends and their frightening and fearless leader, Frond, they uncover secrets that may lead to the destruction of their world as they know it. Full of fast-paced action and great characters, this is great for 4th-8th grade readers who love magical stories.

Thank you Netgalley and Disney Hyperion for the digital ARC of this book! When I saw this book on Netgalley, it sounded like something my 9 year old would really enjoy. I rated it 3 (solid) stars for myself, but I'm sure when he reads it, he will rate it higher.
In a walled city surrounded by dangers, children are selected for their future careers by the city's Guilds. This year 4 of them end up in the Adventurers Guild--the most dangerous of all, tasked with going outside the safety of the walls.
This book has everything you might want in a fantasy story- Magic, monsters, elves, and of course Adventure. I felt like the peak of the action came & was resolved really quickly, but there is great potential for this series!

I chose to read this book because it was billed as something that I could move my Harry Potter fans to when they wanted to find something new. Like HP, it had lots of adventure, well-developed relationships between the main characters, and magic. Unlike HP, which I felt started fun and light and became more serious as the series went on, The Adventurer's Guild was pretty heavy from beginning to end, with life-and-death choices throughout. I thought it was a good examination of human nature, and as the main characters made choices and had choices made for them, their reactions were ones that my students could identify with and imagine themselves making.

This middle grade heroic fantasy book was set in a world with very familiar people, creatures, stakes, and roles, and thus the plot was somewhat well-traveled and predictable, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless. The interpersonal relationships were well-drawn, and the adventure story was exciting and fun. While an adult who's cracked the spine of a high fantasy or two won't find anything to surprise them here, it's a great book for the middle grade audience it's intended for.
