Love and Other Hazards by Claudia Riess involves two main characters living in the city with their daughters. As the story progresses Glenda and Eugene meet. Their daughters are classmate. This novel explores lost hopes, urban living, and relationships. Loving another does, in fact, involve risk and vulnerability. This novel explores all of these topics and adds the complexity of an urban setting. I enjoyed this novel and found it be a very fast read
This was the first novel I have read from this author. I really enjoyed the premise of two hardworking parents trying to do what is best for their kids. They do this while developing a friendship which turns into a relationship. I love how they both treasured their families. I loved how the setting was New York City. I will definitely be looking to see what this author has coming next.
Thanks NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group/River Grove Books for the advanced reading copy of Love and Other Hazards, by Claudia Riess. I enjoyed this book about relationships, parenting, love, being guarded and in control as well as letting go. This story takes place in NYC. The characters are interesting and feel realistic. A fast read.
The story, characters and plot are so inviting and compelling, however, it is the beautifully written development of it all that had me keep reading the book and almost not wanting it to end.
This was my first NetGalley book and it downloaded completely unformatted - my other NetGalley books have been fine since then, so I'm not sure why this didn't work right. Unfortunately, even if it had been formatted, it would not have helped me to like this book. The characters were all flat and sections were so overwritten that it was truly unpleasant to try and follow. It seemed like there was a desire to throw in challenging vocabulary words in the dialogue, which made the conversations between characters just plain silly. I think there was a good premise and I did finish it, but I cannot recommend this to anyone else.
