Brandon Deverill has come back to England after a 6 year hiatus. Lady Katherine Wilde is in love with him or was until an embarrassing incident.
It is a very racy novel, and is not your usual story line. The banter between characters is engaging and fun. The descriptions were great, especially about the ruins, and their ponds. There was danger, intrigue and pirates, or use to be pirates. She was a champion matchmaker and she had matched all her family. The family and friends were very loyal and loving, close knit. There was also danger between Brandon and Kate. This an exceptional story and I thoroughly enjoyed. I very highly recommend it. I received this from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed.
Delightfully enthralling tale of love tempered with wit and adventure. Nicole Jordan has added another delightful read to the Legendary Lovers series.
Brandon Deverill is in love with Lady Katherine Wilde – but he doesn’t know it and neither does she. She loves him too – and she doesn’t know it and neither does he. What a delightful, tangled, twisted set of emotions these two unleash on each other.
The one sure thing is – Brandon wants Katherine and has for several years. He’s American, but he has English relatives and was in England visiting those relatives when he met Katherine’s family and became close friends with them. However, being the honorable man he is, he made the decision to return to America and fight on the side of his country in the War of 1812. During all the time he was gone he never forgot Katherine and wanted to go back and claim her for his own. Then, his relative passed away and Brandon inherited a title. He could care less about the title, but it gave him just the excuse he needed to go back to England and marry Katherine.
You’ll absolutely love Kate’s matchmaking family and the stunts they pull to get Brandon and Kate together. You’ve met them if you read the other books in the series, but if you haven’t, you’ll get to catch up with them in this book.
Kate is a little spitfire who wants absolutely nothing to do with Brandon Deverill. You see, like the honorable gentleman he is, he spurned her advances on the night before he left for America and she will absolutely never forgive him. However, when Kate’s very-much-loved aunt asks Kate to fill in for her in helping Brandon gain some polish and find a bride, Kate can hardly refuse because the aunt has been unavoidably detained at a lying-in.
Sparks fly as the two of them square off and do their best to keep their jealousy from showing as the other dances and flirts with others. Brandon has absolutely no intention of finding any bride other than Kate, but watching him convince her is wholly entertaining.
Then comes the adventure – a trip to France and an encounter with a pirate with whom Brandon has a history. Will they escape in one piece – if they do, it will be a close call.
I hope you’ll give this delightful, can’t-put-it-down book a try – I am sure you’ll enjoy it.
"I requested and received this book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher."
I love Katherine's story with Brandon. So captivating and romantic. I hope this is not the end of the wilde series because I love this series! :)
Publisher's Description:
Nicole Jordan’s irresistible Legendary Lovers series continues in this sizzling twist on My Fair Lady, as a bewitching beauty and a rakish sea captain trade favors . . . and tempt fate.
Lady Katherine Wilde believes she has crushed any lingering romantic feelings toward Brandon Deverill, who spurned her six years ago. And now that the rough-edged rogue needs polishing to claim his inheritance, she’s willing to strike a practical bargain: Kate will mold the brash privateer into an acceptable English nobleman if Deverill will safeguard her from brigands on a voyage to recover lost family treasure. However, the soul-melting kiss that seals their agreement just may reignite blazing passion.
Brandon’s fortitude was sorely tested when he turned Kate away from his bed all those years ago. Even a rake such as he wouldn’t seduce an innocent beauty before sailing into battle. But now that he’s inherited a title and must take a suitable bride, he sets his sights on Kate. Though he fiercely desires her, true love is a notion that baffles him—until their adventure turns perilous and Brandon realizes he’d gladly trade his life to save the woman who has captured his heart.
My Thoughts:
Get ready for a wild, sexy read.
This was my first time reading this author. The book was good with a feisty heroine and an enigmatic hero. I can see the parallel to My Fair Lady/Taming of the Shrew because this Katherine is very feisty and wants her own way and Brandon Deverill most assuredly means to tame her or more accurately bring her around to his way of thinking on the matter of love.
Kate has been in love with Brandon for a long time but the enigmatic sea captain although very attracted to Kate doesn't believe in love. He does ,however want her and has returned to England from America specifically to make her his. Kate will not marry without love though so they are at loggerheads over their differing opinions.
Will anything make these two of like minds or will it end badly?
I gave this book 4.25 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 4.5 of 5 flames. This book consists of some very hot love scenes and is not recommended for an audience. younger than 18 years of age.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Rogues and pirates made this a very entertaining book. Kate gets a little help, call it fate or just interference from family. I guess match making is in the family's blood. Poor Deverill doesn't stand a chance. Love always wins out.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Lady Katherine Wilde and Lord Brandon Deverill. Lady Kate is a young woman who is rather independent for her day, but who is still aware of society's rules, even having come from a large family known for often ignoring those mores. Lord Deverill is an American who has family on both sides of the pond and had to choose sides in the revolutionary war, and chose the fight for the colonies. The war is over, he is back in England and he's now inherited a barony.
Kate is tasked, by her favorite aunt, to assist Brandon in preparation for his entre' into society. But the last time Kate saw Deverill, six years prior, she threw convention to the wind and herself at Brandon. Unfortunately for Kate, Brandon didn't take her offer. Oh the humiliation!
So now Kate is forced to spend time in Brandon's company. He is even more attractive with a few years and a few battles on his person. The question is: will Kate be able to resist this older, even more masculine Deverill? Has Brandon changed his mind?
This was a fun story with an interesting plot even aside from the two main characters' relationship- as pirates, revenge, and a colorful cast of characters provided an entertaining background for the plot. This tale had a lot of heat too!
I would recommend this to romance readers who will thoroughly enjoy it as well.
This book started really well with the chemistry between the hero and heroine fairly scorching the pages. But as the story moved ahead, the love scenes between the hero and heroine became repetitive and bland. I had also really liked the heroine's character in the previous books from this series but in her own book, she comes across as annoying and a little dull.
* I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review*
My Fair Lover is the 5th book in the Legendary Lovers series. While this is book 5 in the series, this is a book that you can read alone. The author has skillfully kept almost all the characters from the earlier books in their books, only allowing the other characters in to help with the plot line. Which made for a truly wonderful read.
Now, I am going to warn you all, My Fair Lover isn’t your typical historical romance. Kate and Brandon have sex. Lots of sex. What was even more interesting to me was that birth control was talked about…mainly between Kate and her aunt Rachel. I have read a few Regency-era romance novels and I call tell you this: A)sex was a now until the main characters were married and B) birth control was not mentioned at all. So reading that passage, after they had arrived in France, was very refreshing and a bit educational. Read the book if you want to find out what I thought was educational about it.
I was kind of on the fence with Kate. While I liked her, I also kind of wanted to strangle her a bit. I liked her because she was a minx, she wasn’t afraid to be the odd duck out (and in Regency Era England that is a huge thing) and scandal really didn’t bother her. But at the same time, she was bothered when Brandon was attracted to her cousin and when a notorious widow had her sights on him. It was so conflicting and honestly, I didn’t know what to think of it or her. Also, she kinda was a busybody and kept interfering in Gabrielle and Jacque’s relationship…even after Brandon told her not too.
Brandon was a bit of an enigma during this book. I could never tell what he was feeling for her except when they were bumping uglies. I really thought, at one point, that he was actually going to go through with letting Kate find a bride for him and keep her as his side piece. So when it came about that he had feelings for her, I was pretty surprised.
The whole storyline about going to France to find the bodies of her parents and aunt and uncle was heartbreaking. I couldn’t even imagine losing loved one that way and no wonder Kate had nightmares about shipwrecks. I would too. I also loved that her family and herself was able to get some sort of closure at the end of the book. Like I said, I can’t even imagine.
The sex scenes were pretty hot too. They weren’t page burning hot but they were very steamy.
The end of the book was pretty typical but I do like that there was a hint of a next book. If there is, I can’t wait to read it!!
How many stars will I give My Fair Lover: 4
Why: Well written, steamy, historical romance that definitely keeps your attention.
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex and some mild violence

A Wilde Ride
Lady Katharine Wilde first met the American Brandon Deverill, seven years previously but was humiliated when she tried unsuccessfully to seduce him into staying in England a year later. It has been six years since she last saw him, she is 24 years old, moves in the highest society, is a successful matchmaker but has never got over him. Her aunt asks her to find a match for Deverill but she doesn't know that he, wants only her! Six years ago he was a gentleman going to war but the war is now over and he has inherited an English barony and requires a wife however, he doesn't want a love match and Kate won't settle for anything less. Recommended read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
What’s it About? Years ago American Brandon Deverill turned down Lady Katherine Wilde’s affection and left to fight in a war against England. Now he’s back and he needs Kate’s help to claim his inheritance, but at the same time he wants to see if there’s still an attraction between them. Kate however, has learned her lesson and while she agrees to help Brandon, it’s not without conditions. In exchange for helping him become an English nobleman, she wants Brandon to provide protection while she travels overseas to find a lost family treasure. Brandon also needs a suitable wife and thinks Kate would be perfect since he still desires her but Kate won’t marry without love and he doesn’t think he’s capable of that.
Overall reaction to the story? I liked My Fair Lover but I wasn’t bowled over by it. Deverill and Kate’s past had been mentioned in previous books so I was excited to read more about them and I wanted to see if the “annoying” Wilde cousin had finally grown up. She did but her romance with Deverill seemed a little one sided with him “knowing” so much about her. I did like the plot because it finally gave the Wilde cousins the closure they desperately needed with regards to the deaths of their respective parents and it took Deverill and Kate away from London for a fresh setting and a different set of conflicts. Overall, a fun read with plenty of adventure to be had.
Describe the hero in five words: Intelligent. Stubborn. Determined. Cautious. Loyal.
Did you like him? Most of the time.
Why? Brandon Deverill was in a difficult situation. He was an American who worked with the British in the past, had British friends, and even his cousin was a titled British citizen but when war broke out between England and America, Deverill fought for the Americans. Now he’s back in England to claim a title and lands and doesn’t know how he’ll be received. It was interesting to say the least. I liked the guy, sometimes I wanted to shake him and really, what was up with him being so knowledgeable about Kate’s inner workings. He wasn’t a bad guy, he just had too much power in the relationship in my opinion.
Describe the heroine in five words: Loyal. Loving. Intelligent. Caring. Fair.
Did you like her? Surprisingly yes.
Why? Throughout the whole series I’ve complained about Kate’s overzealous matchmaking (It’s like she didn’t even know the meaning of the word subtle) and her lack of maturity. Now she’s all grown up and I had to give her a fair chance at changing my mind. She did for the most part. Kate has gotten that ever so necessary reality check and it changed her from a foolish little girl into a cautious woman with brains. I liked the more mature side of Kate. She was more practical and tended think of consequences rather than doing everything “in the moment.” Kate also showed a different side of herself than in the previous books, she was kind and caring but also defiant and capable of defending herself.
Let’s talk about the romance: Here’s where I struggled a bit. Deverill and Kate have a history together, one where she offered herself to him and he flat out refused her. It made Kate more wary about him but Deverill was always so dang sure of her and her emotions. Almost like he was a mind reader. That made the romance seem less, I don’t know, less romantic I guess is what I’m trying to say. I’m tired of men who look at the women “knowingly” or smile “knowingly” as if he can divine her thoughts. I wanted Deverill to be as unbalanced emotionally as Kate. I didn’t want him to be so sure about what she was feeling or what she wanted. No matter how “educated” he was about the fairer sex, he was not a mind reader and Kate was supposed to be different than other women he had been with any way. I wanted Kate to have more of the power this time around, to put Deverill in that uncomfortable position of knowing nothing and feeling everything about Kate. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few moments where Deverill had doubts but all in all his knowing so much made him and the romance feel less passionate and more calculated. The physical chemistry was there but even that was more about him “knowing” Kate better than she knew herself which yes I get that he was more experienced in that area but still, he’s not a mind reader! He can’t know what Kate wants/needs all the time.
How about that supporting cast? Deverill and Kate spend the majority of My Fair Lover alone but there are a few scenes with Kate’s family, and Deverill’s friends including his cousin Trey whom long time fans will remember from his own story, Wicked Fantasy.
It was nice to have a quick check in with him and Antonia.
Click It or Skip It? Click It. My Fair Lover rounds out the story of the Wilde cousins quite nicely despite the fact that I felt the romance was one sided. I was glad to see that this family had the final bit of closure that they needed to move on.
This book was good, but it just didn't keep me as invested as the last story in the series did. There was good chemistry and the sexual tension built well. The plot fell flat at times, though.. Still worth the read, though!
I will have to say that I was so excited to be granted a copy of My Fair Lover…this series has been very close to my heart. I love retellings, especially those with famous tales or fairy tales and this author has done a wonderful job with these retelling. My Fair Lover follows My Fair Lady. So for those of you who love that play…this book is for you. I personally have never seen My Fair Lady yet, but now I definitely want to. Our delightful tale starts with the return of Brandon Deverill, who once was a Privateer for the American’s, but now is a English Noble and the man that spurned Kate Wilde six years previous. Now she is to help him find the perfect English wife, perfect for his new title. Kate still cares for Brandon, but doesn’t trust him. But he is the perfect man to help her locate the ship wreck that killed her parents. Thus begins Brandon and Kate’s adventure from the cities of London, to the beaches and coves of France.
I will say that I was looking forward to this couple, most especially Kate. She is the infamous matchmaker that brought her siblings and cousins together and had the idea of “Legendary Lovers” and now this is her story. I first want to point out that even though this was a likable story, it isn’t my favorite of the series. The story line is steady and strong, but I tended to lose interest in and out of the story at random moments. Which was disappointing, since that doesn’t happen when I pick up this author. Despite that, I still liked this story quite a bit. I enjoyed seeing a couple that finds their way back to each other like these two do. At first, Kate is trying to set up matches for Brandon even though she is pretty jealous. But Brandon wants Kate and wants her as his wife, even if he doesn’t believe in love like Kate Does. But Kate refuses to marry without love. I had a fun time seeing the dynamics of their relationship change, and the search for treasure and dealing with pirates and have some sexy times on the deep blue seas.
My only other complaint is that I fell out of touch with the love story here, I just didn’t feel their chemistry and connection like I wanted to. And since this was a book I had high hopes for, I was disappointed and let down at times through the story, but there were many other aspects that I enjoyed and recommend you pick this author up and try out this series….unique and sexy fun!!!
I fell in love with Kate and Brandon's story on page one when the book started with a cross-dressing encounter. Adorable! The characters were easy to love and had you rooting for them the entire way. Bravo!
Kate, an intelligent, witty and sarcastic heroine meets up with her one true love again when Deverill comes back to town to find a wife. The sparks fly and the adventure begins that takes them on a dangerous journey to find her parents' burial ground. The plot is intriguing and the romance is sweet and anticipatory- the full package in this saucy love story.
This book is a great story of two lovers who were separated by circumstance that fate pushed back together. While the book was well written the story line was slightly predictable. I knew from the first chapter that the two main characters were going to end up madly in love with each other and that was very concerning for me. But I was pleasantly surprised when although the story was predictable it was still a very enjoyable read and I found myself cheering for the success of the characters. I love that the heroin is written to be cunning and a great strategist. I loved seeing her make plans and how they played out in her favor in ways she had no idea they would. This would be a good book for someone just getting into the genera of historical romance who may not be able to predict the outcome so easily.
I give this book 3.5 stars.
I've been a fan of Nicole Jordan for years, and have been waiting anxiously for this story since the preview in The Art of Taming a Rake. Kate is the matchmaker that brought her siblings and cousins together and had the idea of "Legendary Lovers" and now this is her story.
It was a likable story, however it isn't my favorite of the series. The story line is strong, however to be honest I lost interest in and out of the story. Which was so disappointing, since I've never lost interest in this author's stories. At times, the story felt as though it was not written completely by Ms. Jordan herself. Her usual style didn't come through to me in this particular story. The only other complaint is that I didn't feel the chemistry and connection after the prologue. Despite all that, I still enjoyed the story.
At first, Kate is trying to set up matches for Brandon even though she is pretty jealous. But Brandon wants Kate and wants her as his wife, even if he doesn't believe in love like Kate Does. But Kate refuses to marry without love.
I do recommend you pick this author up and try out this series...you will most definitely enjoy it!
I received a copy of this title from the publisher for an honest review. My Fair Lover is the 5th title in the Legendary Lovers series, but can be read as a standalone. This title was 3.75 stars for me so I round up to 4. My Fair Lover features Lady Katharine Wilde, the last unmarried Wilde cousin, and Brandon Deverill, the new Baron Valmere. Katharine and Deverill had been attracted to each other 6 years ago, but he rejected her advances and left to go back to America in wake of the war of 1812. Now that he is back in England, Kate sneaks into his hotel room dressed as footman to clear the air as she has agreed to help him find his perfect mate. Little does she know, Deverill has never forgotten her or their kiss and has decided she is the perfect wife for him. Kate refuses to settle for less than love, but Deverill plans a marriage devoid of softer emotions. Deverill has been avoiding his emotions since fighting in the war where he was forced to face the British, whom he had worked for in an unofficial capacity. Kate presents Deverill with several potential brides, but finds herself jealous. Seizing the opportunity to court Kate while visiting France to help put to rest the death of her parents, aunt, and uncle when their ship sunk years ago, Deverill works to convince Kate that she is his perfect bride. Kate is strong and can hold her own against Deverill, but at times comes across naive when it comes to her views on romance. Deverill was likeable, and I appreciated his devotion to Kate. Overall, this book was an enjoyable way to pass a few hours.
An entertaining story packed with humor and lots of drama and all the things that make romances yummy. Nicole Jordan showcases her talent in an enjoyable way by delivering another fun read that will appeal to all lovers of romance novels.
Another great Legendary Lovers and Wilde siblings book from Nicole Jordan – the matchmaker meets her match. Brandon Deverill refused six years ago to give in to his desire for a young Katharine Wilde. She went to his bed hoping to keep him in England and away from America. Unknown to Katharine at the time was that Brandon was a spy for England and unknown to Brandon was that he had deep feelings for Katharine that he could not even admit to himself. The underlying theme of Kate and Brandon’s story includes a level of trust and openness that they both need to reach in order to truly find their HEA – they both keep secrets.
Altogether this makes for an interesting start to their story. Brandon has inherited a royal title and enlists Katharine’s assistance in finding a suitable ‘convenient’ wife. Katherine is continually ignoring her feelings for Brandon and begins making lists to help him find the ideal wife. Yet, her own feelings keep getting in the way.
As part of their bargain for Kate helping him find a wife, Brandon agrees to accompany Kate to France to try to find the shipwreck that made all of the Wilde siblings and cousins orphans. (Although this part of the Wilde history is covered sufficiently in this book, it might be a good idea to start the series at the beginning to make this read that much more enjoyable). The journey includes working with a man whom Brandon has an acquaintance of a dubious nature which definitely causes problems. Without going into a lot of detail, Kate and her family are finally able to find closure for the loss of their parents. I will say as a side note, Gabrielle’s continued love for Louvel, especially when she knows his sick nature, is kind of sad. She should want more for herself, like escape.
But, back to Brandon and Kate, their journey to France and their journey to their HEA is challenging. Kate is not one to be compliant, nor keep her thoughts to herself, which adds to their challenges and troubles. You will love her strength, independence and attempts at matchmaking. You will appreciate Brandon’s virility and gentlemanly ways towards Kate and her ideas.
Ms. Jordan leaves open the Legendary Lovers series with the possibility of more matchmaking to come. I am looking forward to it.
