The minute I heard about Prom Queen I was so excited to jump into this book , It sounded fantastic, so when I got the chance to read it early I opened it up as soon I could and It was just fantastic . Following Jessica and Jake was just so wonderful ,I love when couples have a past because we get all the juicy back story to go along with it and when you get all the backstory in this story you really understand these characters more because of it , I felt the romance in this book was sexy , fun and heartwarming . I felt like everything truly came full circle . I wasn't expecting to get so much out this novella but I did and this just speaks to how talented Katee Roberts is.If you are looking for an addicting, sex story, with some excellent second chance romance and a happily ever after ending that will fill with all of the swoony feels you should definitely pick up Prom Queen.
What a great way to spend the day as I relax on the river!
The prom queen, Jessica, wasn't very nice in high school, but she and the quarterback had everything planned for their future until he got hurt and she left him and their small town behind. Jake never really got over Jessica and hoped to get a little revenge. But when he saw her and realized she wasn't the same girl that left him, he knew that he didn't want revenge, he wanted another chance with her. Will they be able to forgive each other and move on or has their time passed?
Jessica and Jake were both harboring some guilt over their breakup ten years before and both never really got over the other. Jessica seemed to have changed a whole lot and it was nice to see what it was that had made Jessica be such a brat to others. Kind of gives you some perspective and maybe rethink some things about people you know ;)
As always, Katee Robert writes an amazing story with relatable characters. I'm dying to read some of the other stories in this series, especially the one about Leah.
*thanks to Barclay PR for sharing a copy of this with me*
Loved it, always enjoy 2nd chances. Had to finish in 1 day. This is a voluntary review, I do not get paid for this review!
Prom Queen (Bad Boy Homecoming, #3). This is a fun sexy read that has you turning pages. Jake and Jessica get a second chance in this Bad Boy Homecoming series. I enjoyed their story and this is the second book in the series I have read and they are great. I highly recommend this book and series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.
Prom Queen, A Bad Boy Homecoming book, by Katee Robert was a second chance story of two people who lost their way by circumstances and choices. But ten years later they have a chance to make it right.
Jake Davis was on the brink of having it all. Set to go to college on a football scholarship with his beautiful prom queen girlfriend. He was excited and ready to start his life…then tragedy struck and in an instant, everything changed. The girl he thought would always be there for him is suddenly running away. Eventually he moved on, started his own company and is content. Then the last person he thought would ever need the services of his company gives him an opportunity he never thought he would get.
Jessica Davis knows she was a mean girl in high school and that is putting it mildly. Now ten years later life did not turn out as she hoped. Her ten-year reunion is coming up and she wants to go, but knows no one wants her there. But her two friends and roommates tell her it’s time to put the past behind and make amends. But she is not ready to face them alone, so her friend sets her up with a fake date with Diamond Dates.
Imagine her surprise when she arrives and realizes her “fake” date is no other than Jake. She is ready to call the whole thing off, but talks her into moving forward with her plans. They can make it work. The problem? The more time they spend together, the harder it is to forget the past and the chemistry they had.
Prom Queen was a cute story of two people who were dealt a crappy situation and bad choices were made. But now they may just have a second chance. But can they learn to forgive and forget before it’s too late or will secrets come between them?
I really liked the characters and the growth Jessica showed from who she used to be. And though Jake thought he could take advantage of the situation, he was too good of a guy. I liked seeing how the couple was slowly drawn back together and allowed themselves to open up to each other.
I was really excited to read the Bad Boy Homecoming series as it sounded like something totally different - 5 couples; 10 different people, all someone we might identify with back in high school. Katee Robert's Prom Queen was terrific. Jessica and Jake had passion, emotional intensity, banter and kept me hooked from the get go!
When high school Mean Girl, Jessica Jackson decided to attend her 10 year high school reunion and go back to the town that she practically burned alive with her mean and cruel behavior, she decides to hire an escort to hide that fact that she is single and not the successful Hollywood A-lister she always said she would be. But what happens when her escort, Jake Davis, is the one man she is trying to avoid - the ex boyfriend she abandoned and left in the dust on her sprint out of town years ago?
I really enjoyed this story. I loved that Jessica wasn't afraid to humble herself and seek forgiveness for her crimes against her former classmates and that Jake, while being angry at first, saw that this "new" Jessica was a completely different person than who she used to be. This made for a great story! Bravo! 4 Stars! ~Ratula
I would like to thank NetGalley and Barclay Publicity for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
Prom Queen is a quick and sexy second-chance romance that has all the feels. Jessica Jackson was NOT nice to people in high school, and she’s not proud of how she acted. She’s so embarrassed that she does not want to return to her small Texas town for her ten year reunion, especially since she is single and hasn’t achieved her lofty career goals. She’s also nervous that she will see her ex-boyfriend, Jake Davis, because she has regrets on how she broke things off with him and has never truly gotten over him. Her best friends manipulate her into renting a date for the reunion in order to give her the strength to attend.
Well, Jake happens to own that date rental company, and he’s floored when he sees Jessica is his newest client. He still holds a flame for her, although he was devastated when she broke up with him and left. He decides to step in and fill in the role of her date, but he doesn’t tell her until he shows up at the airport to fulfill his duties.
Jessica's mortified that Jake knows she needed to rent a date, and she’s terrified he’s doing this as a form of revenge. But he’s not doing this to be cruel, although he does want answers. When these young lovers find themselves together again, all of their feelings resurface and their attraction is reignited. They have a history and ten years of separation to churn through to move this from a fake date to anything real, and they both have their defenses up making it difficult to excavate their past. It is obvious they never stopped loving each other, and they just feel right together.
There is something incredibly sweet about Prom Queen and idea of two young lovers finding each again as if they were destined to be together. Jake is swoon-worthy. He could be bitter about their past, but he is not, and he truly just wants to understand Jessica and wants what is best for her. She has a lot of guilt over her past and has to really work through her feelings. Even if Jake and Jessica want to try again, their lives are in two different states and their happily-ever-after is not assured, but the reader will root for these two to figure out how to make things work. Prom Queen is sexy and heartfelt with sweet and fun moments, and its story is a testament to the power of first love.
Prom Queen is one of those narratives that inspires lust, humor and thought provoking commentary. Katee Robert definitely knows what it means to make a statement. Just like Jake and Jessica, we all have our make or break moments. Some are terrifying, others are heartbreaking and then there are the ones that can lead to something wonderful. Jake's life defining moment left him broken, bruised and with no where to go but up. It was a long hard road but it lead the boy football star to make some real grown up decisions. Jessica's life changing moment took a lot longer but boy was it a doozy. The high school it girl with the mean spirit and the uppity attitude, now needs the help of the boy she carelessly cast aside. Payback is a *****. Ms. Robert uses realistic situations, smart dialogue and great characters to get her point across.
This was supposed to be one of those “I’ll just take a tinsy peak at the beginning and then...” books, but I ended up devouring the entire thing in no time. True, this is a novella, but I got caught up in this character driven second chance at love romance and wanted more even when the words “The End” popped up on my ereader.
I was totally Team Jessica from start to finish. She may have been THE mean girl in high school, but people change and she has. Life didn’t turn out the way she expected and she’s come to terms with most of it. I loved her honesty about herself and the insecurities that drove her to be that person in high school and how they are currently affecting her in a totally different way. It took a bit of time for me to warm up to Jake. I understood why he felt the way he did, and felt the need to do what he did, I did, but at the same time no real man would do that in my book. But does he redeem himself? He does and it teaches a valuable lesson about forgiveness and redemption.
As this is a novella, things progress quickly between Jessica and Jake (confession and slight tangent: the name totally makes me think of Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles and makes me happy sigh) but Ms. Robert manages to put a lot of heart into their reunion and gives you a well rounded look at who these two used to be together and who they could be if they can let the past go.
This book was ok. I felt like it built up nicely but then rushed to the HEA. The heroine was set up as having to overcome all these issues and then she just blazes into the reunion and is a bitch to everyone. Then all of a sudden she makes up with her mom in one conversation. Too fast paced resolution for my liking
Jake Davis was a star in high school, had a scholarship to play football and a gorgeous prom queen for a girlfriend. But he was injured and lost everything. Fast forward ten years later, he runs a company that provides women with dates for special events. His high school reunion is coming up and he is suprised to find his ex prom queen girlfriend is a new client looking for a fake boyfriend for the reunion.
Jessica Jackson in high school was the mean girl prom queen type. After high school, she left everything behind even her boyfriend to pursue a hollywood career. Well that didn't turn out, she is now, twenty-eight, single, and works as an insurance agent to A-listers instead of being the A-lister. She was so mean to everyone that she can’t just go back to her home town with nothing going for her. Her roommates and friends set her with a fake date for the reunion.
Jake decides to be Jessica's fake date and when Jessica realized she tries to cancel his services as her fake boyfriends. But their chemistry is still hot as it was in High School, it is even hotter. It isn't long before Jessica is drawn to Jake and a kiss leads to his bed. Can Jessica and Jake move past their heartbreak and move forward? Or is the wounds from heartbreak too deep?
I liked this book. It was a good idea for a book. I just felt it was too wordy and needed less words to say what author wanted to say. There was also alot of unneeded parts that made it not flow and well as I would of wanted. It was a good book.
I was interested in this whole continuity, even though I've only read 2 of the 5 authors before. Katee Robert is one, and while I really enjoyed this novella, I didn't love it. This is apparently book 3 of 5, but they're all supposed to be self-contained. I really loved the back story and the build up, but I felt it was all resolved a little too quickly, and I felt the strong need for an epilogue, which we didn't get. I'll give it 3 1/2 stars.
Jessica Jackson is from a small town in Texas, and she was the queen bee bitch in high school. She was the Regina George of her senior class, and as a 28-year-old adult, on the cusp of her 10 year high school reunion, she knows it's time to face up to it. She has many apologies to make, especially to her life long friend, and high school first love, Jake Davis. She left him and split town for L.A. after graduation, and she hasn't been back. She has been in therapy and realizes what her issues are, and why she was so mean to everyone, but she knows it's time to pay the piper. She just knows she can't do it alone. So, her best friends/roommates convince her to hire a date for the weekend to attend the reunion with her. Best laid plans...
Jake Davis had big college football dreams, that were all derailed after a car accident late senior year left him with a shoulder injury he couldn't come back from. It also left him without the love of his life, when Jessie dumped him and left town. He was so mad at her, and frustrated with his situation, that he never really dealt with all of it properly. He started his business, Diamond Dates, and has many guys working for him. When he sees Jessie's application come through, he knows he can't relegate this off to another employee. He decides to get a little payback, and to act as Jessie's date for the reunion to mess with her. But, he had no idea the impact she would still have on him, or how it would feel to be with her again.
Jessie and Jake had A LOT of issues to work through. What she did to him was terrible, and she doesn't know if she can trust him when he says he forgives her. She's constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. Meanwhile, she has to deal with her mega Mommy issues blasting out since she's back home. Her mom is a piece of work, and it was hard to watch how she acts toward Jessica. It's easy to see how those issues turned into her taking out all her anger on other kids at school, though it doesn't excuse it. Jessie was a bully, and she never had to deal with any repercussions of that.
Jake and Jessica's chemistry was strong from the start, and you could see how much they were still drawn to each other. But, secrets and old grudges make it hard to let the past rest. I really liked how they dealt with their issues, but by the end, it all felt a little rushed to me. Also, as a lover of epilogues, I really would have enjoyed one here. Hopefully once I've read the entire series, I'll feel a bit better about it, but I really think it would have enhanced the story.
Overall, I did like this story, and I'm glad I read it. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
Back in the day Jessica Jackson wasn't the best person, she was going places and those around her were not going to hold her back. She burnt a lot of bridges back then, made a lot of enemies, and looking back at it all now she is not proud of her actions. With her impending reunion she knows the right thing to do is return home and make her appearance, being the Prom Queen and all, but she is certain that no one will be happy to see her there. Her life didn't turn out as planned, and she hasn't really accomplished all the things she set out to do, she doesn't even have a date that she can bring home to show off, so her friends suggest she hire one. So, she reluctantly takes their advice, thinking a date can take some of the heat off her, but when her date shows up at the airport to pick her up she gets the surprise of her life... it's her ex-boyfriend... the one she left behind!
Ten years ago Jake Davis watched the love of his life walk away and never look back, all the promises she made going along with her, as well as the future they planned. She wanted to make a name for herself on the big screen, and so sticking around town wasn't going to help her do that so she just walked away. He has since then moved on, going into business for himself, a business that helps women out with dates for special occasions, and when an application from his latest client lands on his desk he gets the surprise of his life... it's his ex-girlfriend in need of a date for their reunion. No way is he passing this one off to his employees, he's going to handle this one himself.
I really enjoyed this book, the story line captured my attention right away, and held on tight the whole way through. Jake stole my heart, I am a sucker for alpha male characters who are protective and willing to do what it takes to win the girl...and he totally won this girl! It was a great second chance romance story that warmed my heart and gave me the feels, I highly recommend this one!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
Karma is a bitch, that's what this is all about. Jessica realized too late that everything she'd done in the past had come haunting her back. The mean girl slash cheerleader was finally going to face her victims in the upcoming high school reunion and Jessica was sure they'd throw eggs at her because of her attitude then. Just thinking about the reunion was sending shivers down her spine, not because of her ex-boyfriend hottie Jake Davis coming too, but because she didn't have anyone to bring as a date to the dreaded get-together. Until her friends signed her up to an escort-type service for people who needed fake dates.
I didn't expect to like this story, for one, I really don't like bullies in high school and second, I am not much of a second-chance romance believer. Yeah, I've had such horrifying experiences about these instances in high school (I was bullied a little by a teacher's daughter when I was in junior high, so that kind of sucked. And then I had a boyfriend before who cheated on me but I gave him second chance and just blew it all away because he went back to his cheating ways. So yes, those tropes really get under my skin, so forgive me if I was hesitant to read this.
But surprise, surprise! I had a great time with Prom Queen by Katee Robert. I loved that Jessica Andrews redeemed herself and saw the fault of her ways; that was really important to me. I loved that she also took a chance with love the second time around. At least she wasn't cheated by her ex so their renewed relationship became sweet and lovely. The drama was okay, it was essential to the story; the characters were real and relatable. One could easily find herself in this characters and I myself couldn't help but fall for them, especially with Jake.
Overall, this had been such a delightful read! I can't wait to read more of Katee Robert's books and the rest of the Bad Boy Homecoming series!
What does Jessica see in Jake? A second chance, a hot body and, something else. Personally, I didn't care for him. He seemed very bland with no spark of personality to gravitate toward. SPOILER ALERT It was good of Jessica to stand-up to her mom and realize that she doesn't need to please everyone. END SPOILER
The way people acted seemed exceptionally juvenile so I could definitely see this as a subplot in a tv show.
Overall it wasn't the worst piece of garbage I've ever read, but I certainly won't remember it in a year.
When I first heard about this series, I thought it was such a great idea. Five different authors each tackling a story about a high school reunion and the various tropes and stereotypes that pop up in that kind of scenario.
With Katee Robert's Prom Queen it's pretty easy to deduce who in the high school we'll be reading about. But regardless here goes:
Despite not having a reputation as a sweetheart, Jessica Jackson was a popular girl at Catfish Creek High School. Cheerleader, Prom Queen, pageant winner, dating the star quarterback of their high school football team, Jake Davis. But things come to a crashing halt when her Jake is injured and all their dreams / plans for the future change. She leaves Jake when he needs her most for the glitz and glamour of LA. Now, it's time for her ten year high school reunion, and being older and wiser, Jessica is looking to go back and make amends to those she trampled while trying to remain on top. Unfortunately, her life now is nothing like she pictured it all those years ago and she will definitely not be attending the reunion, with the threat of facing Jake, alone. So, she contacts Diamond Dates.
Jake Davis's world came crashing down when he was injured. Losing not only his football scholarship, but Jessica was tough, but he made it through that time. Now, he runs a successful business setting up women with dates for special events. He's pretty shocked when Jessica's name pops up as an applicant for Diamond Dates. Jake thinks this would be the perfect opportunity to finally get back at the heartache she caused him all those years ago. So he decides to pose as her date for the reunion.
Neither of them are expecting the sparks and attraction to still be there after all these years, but they are, but will their past prevent them from moving on with their futures?
The second chance romance it one of my favorites, and Katee Robert does a great job with Jessica and Jake's story. There's a lot of history between these two, and I think one of the only things I would have liked to see expanded upon was the history. Not only were they high school sweethearts, they were childhood friends. I would have loved to delve further into that friendship between them before they became romantic because I think it makes the heartbreak of what happened later even more relevant.
Otherwise, for being a novella length story, and therefore one I finished within a day, I thought that things were filled out pretty well, especially the heat factor between Jessica and Jake. Their unresolved feelings for each other were scorching, yet I also liked the fact that Katee Robert didn't sacrifice anything within the story just to give us more sex. It all balanced out very good in the end.
Although this one is touted as "book 3", it's completely stand alone. Looking at the other titles in the series, and reading about the various secondary characters, I think I've got some of the connections made already. In any case there are quite a few characters that I look forward to seeing more of in the other books to be released in this series.
I am a new Katee Robert fan.
I really enjoyed this book even though I had not read the previous 2 books in this series.
This book is well written and even though it didn't get me hooked on the book I will want to read the others in this series .
I give this 3 out of 5
A sexy novella with a hero (Jake) who will make you swoon, and a heroine (Jessie) who you just want to hug! They're prefect for each other, and once they own up to their past, you can't help rooting for them!
This read was short, sweet and oh so entertaining. I didn’t read any of the other books in this series, but if they’re anything like this book I’m definitely going back for more.
A class reunion brings Jessie back to her hometown, to face the past and make amends for all the ‘mean girl’ pranks she pulled as a teenager. People got hurt in the process and especially her ex boyfriend, Jake, who she left behind. But Jessie is a changed woman, and after 10 years and a little push from her best friends, she decides it’s high time to apologise.
What she didn’t expect was Jake. Even though a lot has changed in their lives since the last time they saw each other, being with him was easy and familiar. But it’s always a dangerous game to dream about things you cannot have, and with separate lives with hundreds of miles between them reconciliation is a difficult, if not an impossible task.
3.5 stars
That was fun! And I didn't expect this to be emotional too, I shed quite a few tears. Anyway, I love Jessica from the start; wouldn't have pegged her for a Mean Girl, tbh. We didn't really get a flashback on her supposed meanness in high school, except for a quickfire exchange on reunion night where we got a glimpse of the girl she used to be.
Overall, it's a short and sweet second chance romance, and I'm really intrigued about the thing going on between Drew and Leah so I guess I'll be watching out for that one next.
