This was my first time reading one of Schmidt's books. I really liked the storyline. It wasn't your typical rich alpha man, struggling woman story that so many books seem to lean towards lately. I wouldn't mind reading other books from this author.
Note, I did receive a copy of this book from the publish for purposes of reviewing.
Wow! This story really packs a punch. It's sexy and a bit dirty do if that offends you, steer clear. I really enjoyed it. Terri and Mick walked me through their story beautifully. They are both well rounded and believable characters supported by an interesting cast of secondary characters. The plot is nicely developed and held my interest throughout. The pace wasn't so much a walk as a gallop. I struggled to tear myself away and look forward to more from this author.
The "Stud" with the Diamond Stud in his ear!!!
This is one of a romance reader's favorite tropes and Ms. Schmidt writes this one with delicious hotness, heart-racing sexual tension, surprising plot twists and even an element of depth to the story.
Our heroine, Terri is beautiful, intelligent, loyal and struggling. She lovingly cares for her brother, who in the prime of his life, has been stricken with a devastating disease. She does this by working two and three jobs. More than her loyal and golden heart, she also has an air of sexual desirability about her.
Enter Mick who is and has been privileged all of his life, yet never truly had a genuine connection with anyone, save for his deceased grandfather. We see him through the eyes of Terri...and he acts like a douche with his dismissive and demanding ways. We also hear how sexy he is and how good he smells. Everyday for five months they never speak to each other when he comes into the coffee shop where Terri is a barista...But there is no denying the sexual chemistry as they eye-eff each other.
Ms. Schmidt begins the actual sexual connection between Terri and Mick with a sizzling scene at a club party where Terri works as a server. A subtle but powerful attention getting beginning to Terri and Mick's sexual relationship.
The reader finds the erotic scenes done very nicely...by nicely I mean hot, hawt, hot, explicit, delightful...a touch raw and gritty, sex...to include cybersex in an online videogame.
The story involves that lovely tension created by the characters finding themselves changing and perhaps being ultimately transformed by real, genuine and self sacrificing love.
The surprising symbolism of a "Stud" is what happens to both studs per se...the man and the diamond stud earring in his ear.
I was invited through NetGalley to read an ARC and if I felt inclined, leave a honest review. I was so delighted in the read, I purchased a copy. This was the first time I have read this author and I consider this a most happy accident!!! I just love it when an ARC is this good. I will certainly hope to read more of her work.
I paid for my copy even after receiving an ARC, so I feel very comfortable recommending you to one click this entertaining and engaging read.
First of all I need to say how much the tittle and the cover suits the story and the hero.I could easily imagining him like that and the title is perfect. It was steamy and super hot.The heroine is strong and sassy and the hero super hot.Great combination.
I loved every minute of this book. The characters had great personalities which made this book even more enjoyable. The hook had me from the beginning and I couldn't put this book down. There is just the right amount of romance and humor to balance out the crazy plot. The writing to me is done perfectly at just the right pace, I never felt the story was rushed or dragged out. I also really enjoyed a little back story on the secondary characters it made this book come full circle. There were a few times where I wasn't sure how the story would go but it flowed perfectly. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
I was gifted a copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
This book had everything you could want. A hot Alpha who doesn't take no for an answer. I recommend this book to everyone
Apparently I'm in the minority here, but that's OK. I didn't love Stud. I sorta liked it, but it didn't wow me or stand out in any way.
Mick is an arrogant jerk, a suit wearing rich guy who comes into the coffee shop where Terri works and they engage in snarky eye f*****g across the counter. It's the highlight of Terri's days because the rest of her days are filled with taking care of her brother, who has developed ALS like symptoms and she shuttles him back and forth to doctor and therapy appointments. She had to give up her job to take on a bunch of other part-time jobs so she'd be available to help her brother out whenever needed. So when she gets the chance to interview at Mick's advertising company for a full time position, she jumps on it. Unfortunately, Mick's company is not open to telecommuting or flex hours, so he rejects her out of hand. That's not to say that the two don't enjoy a healthy sexual tension, and then a one night stand, but still, no job offer. That is, until she is catering one of his meetings and his clients are taken with her ideas for their video game and push Mick into a corner and he ends up hiring her as a contracted employee, which means no benefits and no job security.
Somehow the two end up in a FWB situation that develops over her giving him a crash course in the game their clients are launching. It's a game Terri and her brother are huge players of, and Mick needs her knowledge so he doesn't look like an idiot in front of their clients. As they while away their nights playing the game and sometimes cyberf****** I wondered where it was all going, because it had stagnated for me. They didn't seem to have much of a connection beyond the physical, and when the inevitable ILY declaration was made I was really surprised because I really didn't feel that between Terri and Mick. A healthy physical attraction, sure. A snarky, funny way of communicating, definitely. But, LOVE? Not even close. And then there's the weird, rushed ending. It seemed to be just thrown together and rushed, not a good ending to what could have been a great story.
So, while I liked the premise of Stud, I didn't connect to the story or the characters at all. I wish I had, because I was really excited to read this, based on the blurb (and the cover, it's HOT!). I was hoping for more: more heat, more vibrant characters, more action, more everything, and unfortunately, I did not get it.
Terri Cooke only just manages to bite her tongue every time Mick Wentworth walks into the coffee shop where she works to get his regular order. However, the more she gets to know Mick after he asks her out, the more of him she wants to see. Yet, when she finds herself working for his family's marketing firm to help him impress a new client, Mick decides they need to keep things professional. But that's easier said than done, especially when they're spending so much time together. Will Terri be able to win Mick's heart, or will his family drama put their happy ever after in jeopardy?
I always love reading one of Ms. Schmidt's books, and this story was an extremely hot and wonderful read from start to finish due to the explosive chemistry between this couple, which is instant from the moment they come face-to-face for the first time in this story; Mick's family drama that makes me feel sorry for him, because his family are horrible; and the dialogue, which was the perfect blend of intense moments and teasing banter that had me loving the hero, even though he comes off as an arrogant ad executive that thinks he can have anything he wants.
Both the main characters were riveting and I loved their back stories, of which made me sympathize with both their situations. Such as Mick's family drama that illustrates how dysfunctional they are and how determined everyone is to blame Mick for their problems; and what's happening with the heroine's brother that makes her want to be there for him. Will Mick come out on top against those that are determined to bring him down? Will his brother finally do the right thing? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she was to help her brother through the tough time he's facing. It isn't easy and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her brother, because he used to be so independent and outgoing and now he's struggling to do things for himself. I also liked how she helped Mick with the account and that she showed him how good the gaming industry can be.
While the hero, he's arrogant, hard-working and I liked how determined he was to turn his family's company around after the scandal, although Mick and his team had managed to keep the details from being exposed. I also liked how Mick did his best to resist the heroine once they began to work alongside each other. No way was he going to allow another scandal to rock his family's company. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is how he dealt with his family and didn't allow them to get to him too much, even though they're determined to turn his life upside down. Certainly, Mick's mother has got a vindictive streak and is determined to do whatever it takes to bring the hero down.
Overall, Ms. Schmidt has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry and romance was explosive due to the hero's dirty talking and the heroine's ability to challenge the hero, especially in the moment when they met. Just because other women fall all over him, it does not mean that Terri is determined to do the same, especially when he doesn't treat people all that nicely. The way this story ended had me worried for one of the secondary characters and how what happened would have an effect on the hero and heroine. Will Terri be able to accept what Mick tells her? However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up wonderfully, as things are good for not only the hero and heroine, but also the heroine's brother. I also liked how Mick's family drama worked out for the better when it came to him and his father's relationship. It was just too bad Mick's mother didn't suffer the same fate as his father, although it -- at least -- seemed the hero's father was repentant for everything he did. I would recommend Stud by Jamie K. Schmidt, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope; office romances; or books by authors Sidney Bristol, Jessica Lemmon, Kelly Jamieson and Meredith A. Walters.
Fun, sexy read. Loved the chemistry between the characters!
So good and so much fun. I hesitated to tackle this arc from NetGalley & Team Schmidt partly because the title and cover did not attract me. These sorts of stories where the billionaire and sassy down-on-her-luck gal save each other can be so cheesy, but Schmidt did a great job of making us relate to their story and wish we had a stud of our own. Practically enjoyed this read in a day and didn’t miss out on what else I could’ve been doing.
Books that matches the wits of man verses woman in the game of sex and love is always exciting. And this book is no different. It pulls you into the challenge of who is going to crack first. The sexual tension between the two characters is beyond the veil. His love of coffee and her love of his companies product was the perfect way to draw them into each other.
This story flowed really nicely and was well written. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very good book. I love the family drama and hot sex scenes.
I have to be honest and say I haven't read much by this author in fact I think it's 2 books including this one, but after reading Stud I will be looking at more from Jamie K. Schmidt. I really enjoyed this book, it was an interesting story that had a lot going for it.
Terri is having to work as many jobs as she can fit in to help support her sick brother, Mick is an advertising CEO that has the family from hell, he needs to learn fast how to play video games to keep his biggest client on his books and happy. Terri can teach Mick everything he needs to know but what happens when feelings get in the way, will they both be able to fight the attraction they feel for each other after all this is only meant to be business and what happens when Mick crosses the line and gets Terri's brother onto a much needed medical trial.........
Two people who have so many obstacles thrown into their life's, a woman who should have a career not 3 part time jobs, a man who should be running a successful family business not only fighting to keep that business afloat but fighting with his family as well. This book is full of twists and turns, it's funny and sad all rolled into one, oh did I mention it's hot !!!
Great job Jamie K. Schmidt
After looking at the cover and the reading the first couple chapters I thought this would be a DNF for me. I did not want to read another alpha-male/subordinate female book. Then the book took an abrupt U-turn and you find out Mick Wentworth is not just a playboy and Terri Cooke is not just a barista. Mick is fighting his dysfunctional family to save the family business and maintain peace within the factions of the family. Terri has put her marketing career on hold to care for her brother who has an ALS-tye disorder. Mick and Terri are attracted to each other and act on it until Terri comes to work for him to help land a big account at a software company that produces a video game that Terri and her brother play. Since Mick is Terri's boss, he tries to stay away from her, but he fails and has her report to his brother so that they can date. I felt that the "I love you" came a bit too fast. While they were physically attracted to each other, I missed the love building part. In the end, Mick resolves his family problems, the business prospers and there is a HEA.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish this book which means I will not be able to review it. I truly appreciate the opportunity and apologize for the inconvenience the lack of review may cause you.
his is a sexy, amusing and enjoyable story. Mick is real jerk in the beginning, but as you slowly get to know him you learn that he's charming and generous and funny. He has a big heart, but it's disguised as selfishness and control. He finds himself drawn to Terri, once he stops and sees her, and his one and done attitude doesn't seem to apply to her. Terri is a sweet, snarky and caring woman who is fascinated by Mick, but doesn't want to have a relationship with him. Things get more complicated and entertaining as the storyline unfolds. It's a really great story.
Funny, steamy, a good read that held my attention, especially with the female lead holder her own against the alpha male
