Sasha has been in love with her best friend, Xavier, for a while, but just when she's about to tell him how she feels, he gets back together with Ivy, his ex who cheated on him and broke his heart. In an effort to prove to Xavier that Ivy hasn't changed, Sasha poses as a guy online and starts a flirtation with Ivy. Soon, however, Sasha's plan goes way, way wrong, and eventually, each of them will do something they can't take back.
BAD GIRLS WITH PERFECT FACES is an edge of your seat thriller with high drama. The main characters are all deeply flawed and frequently make poor choices. What's really well done in this book is that even if you don't like the choices they make, you can understand the logic for each person, what led them to believe the path they chose was the only one or the best one available to them.
While I appreciated the characterization, I ultimately just wasn't super invested in the story. I liked the twists at the end, but I might have put the book down if it wasn't as short as it was. The type of drama (love triangle, backstabbing, blackmail, etc) ended up not being my particular cup of tea, but fans of series like Pretty Little Liars will likely love it.
Lynn Weingarten's books have yet to disappoint me, and Bad Girls with Perfect Faces is not going to be where that begins! The drama in this book, the plot, the characters, everything about it was absolutely perfect, and I was so not ready for it to be over by the time I reached the final page.
There is a girl, Sasha, and she has a best friend, Xavier, who has an ex-girlfriend, Ivy. Sasha has feelings for Xavier who is still hung up on Ivy who cheated on him when they were together. Following... yes see sounds really angsty. Sasha and Xavier go hang out one night and Ivy shows up, talks Xavier into getting back together. Bad Xavier. At this point, things just happen. Sasha takes control. Xavier finds himself in a bad relationship, and bad things happen. Plans backfire, good intentions turn not so good. And this is the mystery... What really happened.
I'm gonna be honest, this book was a book I noticed but paid no attention. I didn't think I had any interest in reading it. It sounded like an angsty read to me and I just wasn't in the mood to get involved. Well, looking through audible one day I found this book, it had some pretty glowing reviews... so I said okay I will read this... Oh, am I ever so happy I did. I am totally all over this read.
First off, this book completely screwed with my head. In so many ways. I thought I knew what was going on, who was who, who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. The mystery in this book was so incredibly well done. It was purely psychological and so suspenseful. In the first part of the book, there was a whole lotta character development and story build going on. I could tell things were going to get intense, eventually, something big was going to happen... It just wasn't even close to what I imagined. I was never bored, I was completely wrapped up in this story. I never once thought about putting this read away and doing something else... even things that needed to be done. I was so into this book. There was so much tension being built I just knew something big was going to happen. I could just feel the tension in every word... and something big did happen and it was oh well this is going to be trouble, big trouble.
I want to talk about the characters. Let me tell you when I say everyone in this book was screwed up, I mean screwed up to the max. In fact, screwed up doesn't even scratch the surface. These teens were off their rockers, angsty, angry, jealous, and were into head games and so much crazy. And even more crazy, I liked it. I liked the crazy, the screwed up, the missing more than a few marbles. They were likable in all their craze. They were interesting and multi-layered. There was a very fine line between what they thought was good and knowing they went too far. They were so wrong and I knew it was all bad, very bad things.. .but I wanted more. I devoured their antics. I even cheered them on. I know how messed up am I?
The entire story was just messed up, including the ending. The ending was so very disturbing and yet I liked it. I felt it fit and I was happy with how it ended but then not happy that I was happy with the way it ended. It almost felt dirty to like it and to enjoy this book. I am not sure anyone else has had this feeling but its very strange. I feel conflicted. After I finished this book, smiling and a little shell-shocked... all I remember is thinking am I okay to like something so messed up? I loved every moment of this book.
In the end... Guilty- I absolutely loved this book and I need more from this author!
This book has a ton of twist and turns and will leave you guessing. Chapters alternate between Xavier and Sasha. I didn't really like Sasha. She seemed a little too obsessed and angry. Xavier was just such a pushover. He continued to let Ivy treat him like crap and ignored his growing feelings for Sasha. This book had me feeling tense but I never got emotionally invested in the characters and their relationships. The twist at the end was slightly unbelievable. And the resolution of the story left me feeling unsatisfied.
Bad Girls with Perfect Faces is the story of Sasha and Xavier and just how far Sasha will go to protect Xavier from horrible thing, even when one of those horrible thing might end up being himself.
Sasha is the best friend anyone could hope for. Xavier went through a really crappy breakup where the girl cheated on him and Sasha was there for him through it all. He is finally starting to come out of his depression so they decide to go to a dance club they used to go to a lot for his birthday. At the club they run into his ex, Ivy, and stuff happens to the point where he ends up with her.
Sasha doesn’t want to see him go through another breakdown so she does something seemingly innocent to prove that Ivy hasn’t changed. Only maybe it isn’t so innocent and maybe this will lead to something really bad happening.
In the end, I found this book to be a very satisfying mystery/thriller. The synopsis on the book flap makes the bad guy seem like one person while the book makes it seem like another but in the end the real bad guy is... mysterious.
Overall, I gave the book 4.5/5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher who provided me a copy of this book via netgalley!
When I looked up, his smile was wide and real. “Ready?” he said.
I faked a smile back. I had gotten so good at faking things.
I thought: You brought this on yourself, Sasha. You will have to pretend forever now.
He squeezed my hand again. He couldn’t begin to imagine what this actually was. He had no idea what I’d done. What any of us had.
Can you hear me screaming from here "cover lust" ? Because I'm screaming and it's real, that cover is absolutely gorgeous and I adore how the title and the cover work so perfectly together.
This book is about two friends, Xavier and Sasha, the relationship they have with one another, the relationships they have with other characters and how that influence everything in the end. Bad Girls with Perfect Faces is a very wicked tale of morally grey characters doing rather questionable things.
It's kind of difficult to review this book because I don't want to reveal anything to you because it would be totally fun-ruining. But it's also hard to fangirl over it/rant over it without spoiling anything. So, I'll try to speak less of the plot and more of the way the book will make you feel.
This book shows perfectly how obsession can make people do very crazy things. I feel like every character in this book had a very dark kind of attachment towards someone. There were no healthy relationships in this one, only these very strong, intense connections.
I loved Sasha, she was a very complex character, very loyal to those she loved (I think her loyalty could be her downfall, actually). I adored the scheming plots that took place in the book, it was interesting to see how the 'bad' characters weren't punished in the end, but it was also a very open ending, building up the suspense that it might happen sometime in the future.
To be honest, I felt bad about most of these characters, they were so messed up (usually because they had some family issues or self-esteem issues or whatever) that you could barely hold them accountable for what they did. I felt like Weingarten did a great job at making you feel sorry for these characters. You knew what they were doing was very troubled, but you couldn't help understand their reasons behind their actions.
I took off a star from this one because I felt like after the climax, things weren't as interesting as before, it might have been my mood, I don't know. But I didn't really feel it, I wasn't really interested in Sasha and Xavier's trip.
Also, I thought Xavier, as a character, was a bit too bland. It might be because he was surrounded by those girls who had such strong personalities and completely overshadowed him.
All in all, I really liked the title and I would recommend it to anyone who loves mystery!
This was a wild ride, from start to finish. As I was reading I kept pausing (even though it kinda killed me) to tell my fiance what was happening because I needed someone else to experience this book with me. This is a book about friendship and how far you'll go to protect the ones you love, even from themselves. It was dark and twisty and a liiiiiittle ridiculous, but I didn't much care about the ridiculousness as I was reading, I just wanted MORE. Ivy is a pretty terrible human being, but the rest of the cast of characters aren't necessarily the best either. Saying that, I still really liked reading from Sasha's POV and Xavier, although way too forgiving, was an interesting character as well. There's a lot of foreshadowing and misdirection, so you never quite feel 100% confident you know how things are going to end (like, I even read the ending and I was still surprised by some of the events, THAT'S how twisty this book is). I definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a twisty thriller about friendship.
Beautifully twisted “Bad Girls With Perfect Faces” is a fun and dark look into the mind and the lengths we could go if it meant protecting the ones we love the most.
This book was so so good and I think I was so hooked by it because of how real it was. The characters in this book could have easily been people I know in the world and the decisions they made (though awful) could have logically been made if you were under similar circumstances. The characters were both likable and unlivable at the same time. They were flawed and reckless but undeniably human and that’s what made this story so good to me.
In this life, technology and social media make things so much more personal yet impersonal at once. It’s so easy to abuse it and do as you like that sometimes the line gets so blurred you don’t know what is right or what is wrong anymore. Stories of people getting catfished are all too common and you have to wonder what sorts of things cross a persons mind to the point where they think that getting to that point is ok?
I’m so drawn to this book because it makes me think of things in such a philosophical way yet I am still completely entertained. I love a good morally twisted story and this one was done amazingly well. Gosh, I can’t get over how much I absolutely loved it! The actual storyline was amazing, filled with so many WTH moments and OMG moments and Holy Cow moments that blew my mind.
Anyway, if your still here reading this post you shouldn’t be because you seriously need to be reading Bad Girls With Perfect Faces! You won’t regret reading this twisted contemporary thriller brimming with twisted grey areas of our reality.
