I forgot how much I enjoyed Sandra Owens. Lauren met Court six years ago. After a wonderful week (which we don't see) she comes home to find her abusive ex-husband waiting for her. After nearly dying and keeping Court's name a secret she cuts him loose without telling him why. Fast forward six years and Lauren and Court meet again. Small world. Can they try again? With Lauren's ex's upcoming release date from prison it's unlikely - or is it. I loved that this book was emotional without being too angsty. I loved that Lauren is a fighter, despite Court being a protector. I'll definitely need to read the rest of this series and maybe dive into more Sandra Owens.
I received this book for free from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Lauren and Court had real issues that could happen to anyone. They found love that could last forever. It was suspenseful and fantastic. The pace of the story was perfect. A one click buy for the entire series and glad I own them. Loved it.
I need to quit requesting from this series because I'm getting perturbed that I'm DNFing them all. This didn't keep my interest long at all
Get ready for another Aces & Eights books that will make you want more of Sandra’s FBI agents. We have Court Gentry, the man you want in your corner and his woman Lauren. They had only a week of passion but it was enough for Lauren to see that her ex-husband Stephan is not the man for her. I loved that no matter the lies and suspense Court is calm for Lauren on the outside but in the inside he is struggling to be there for her. Sandra Owens has a great series and cannot wait for Nate’s story as the last Gentry man he is intriguing and sexy like Court. Loved it.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”.
I really liked this and the first book. The continuation of the characters, the look into the past and the action kept me well entertained. This author will be added to my new reading list.
4.5 stars
There is a lot to recommend in this action packed romantic suspense. It's a second chance for Lauren and Court, an underground agent. She is being stalked by her psycho ex husband and his family and fears for herself and anyone she cares about, which is why she let Court go. I loved Court and his brothers. I also thought Lauren and Court had a sizzling chemistry. I just discovered this series so I will have to read the first book and catch up. This series is a great find!
Thanks NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I totally fell in love with the characters and the plot. I definitely will be reading more from this author and series.
This book will keep you reading so don't start reading it late in the evening YOU WILL NOT able to put it down. It is such a compelling story. I so hated to see it end. I just love Court and his brothers along with Lauren.
This is the second book in this series and tells Court's tale of second chances with Lauren. Excellent story line with keeping the reader involved in the tale until the end. Really enjoy this author's characters and interactions. Looking forward to the next book .
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
I enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one. Lauren and Court where a good couple with lots of sizzling chemistry between them. Two strong and engaging leads.
Covert FBI agent Court Gentry loves his brothers, his job, and his Harley-Davidson. Once he loved a girl, too, but when she broke his heart, he put his emotions on lockdown…until she crosses his path again.
On vacation six years ago, free-spirited Lauren Montgomery fell hard for Court Gentry. She returned home happier than ever, only to descend into a spiral of abuse by her ex-husband, Stephan. When Stephan threatened to kill any man who touched her, Lauren cut Court from her life—but not from her heart.
When Lauren and Court reunite after her friend marries his brother, Court guards himself against the person who made him feel such intense passion and pain. Except the undeniable spark between them is impossible to contain and heating up fast. Six years ago, it was love. Now, it’s just lust. Keeping it merely physical is a foolproof plan…right?
When Stephan is released from prison, Lauren can’t outrun her past anymore, and Court vows to protect her. But with Lauren in imminent danger, Court must question his heart and risk his life to save the woman he never stopped loving.

I first fell in love with the Gentry brothers when I had the opportunity to read Alex Gentry's story Jack of Hearts. Little did I know that better was to come. This story is about Court, the middle brother, and we finally get a chance to really get to know him and how his past intersects with his hoped for future.
This book is hot but it is more the sexual tension between Court and Lauren. Yes there is some sex but nothing to graphic. It is also filled with danger, love, family loyalty and witty dialogue. All the needed ingredients for a book that will keep me up past my bedtime.
I do recommend KING OF CLUBS to any of my readers who enjoy a good romantic suspense as this one will keep you on your toes. I can hardly wait for Nate's story to come out.
*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.
Sparks, fire, ignition. Court can’t outrun his love for one woman. Excepting never to see her again things change when they are in close quarters once again. This time the stakes are even higher.
My first read from Sandra Owens and she has a fan. I love the suspene, drama, action, intense passion, and the fierce denial they both tried to pull off but did not succeed with. Court knew that he found an unreplaceable connection to the beautiful woman that torn his heart apart six years ago. He has no intention of allowing her to get close to him again. He feels that if he just engage in lustful acts that he would not get his heart involved.
To secure his safety, she walked away for Court six years ago. Now, Lauren has no choice but to encounter Court. Her best friend is marrying his brother. Things are more than just simple fireworks between the two. The passion, desire, chemistry and connection between then has just grown stronger.
I must ride this series to the end. I loved it. I will be going back to Jack of Hearts.
The suspense was exciting. Court and Lauren had great chemistry together. It is a very enjoyable read!
This book has the story of one of the gentry brothers who are three FBI agents who own a biker bar as a cover for their jobs. It's an interesting twist on a second chance at romance. 6 Years ago Court fell for Lauren at the beach but she is but she dumped her up but she dumped him for no reason. Six years later he finds out that she is in trouble and she left him for a good reason. While protecting Lauren court and Lauren fall in love again. It's a fun story with good suspense and great characters.
King of Clubs is a sexy second chance romantic suspense. Court and Lauren fell in passionate love 6 years ago but Lauren ended it abruptly. Court never got an answer as to why she ended it, and his heart has been encased in steel ever since. When Lauren and Court are thrown together again can they get back to where they were before? Or will it just be a FWB situation? Of course you know if hearts were involved before, they'll be involved again and Court and Lauren are no exception.
Court's a badass undercover FBI agent, without being over the top alphahole about it. He's sweet, sexy and protective and once those protective instincts are activated when he sees her being harassed by her ex brother-in-law, he doesn't let her out of his sight. Lauren is a tough heroine, she's had to be what with all the abuse her ex husband put her through. There's a lot of action without it overwhelming the romance, Sandra Owens does a great job of balancing the two here. So if you like your romantic suspense with liberal dashes of sexy, a badass, dirty talking sweetheart of an alpha, and a tough, feisty heroine, then King of Clubs is the book for you!
I love second chance romances and this one was good. King of Clubs is a well written story, with some good plot twists, lots of action and excellent pace.
I not only liked both main characters but they felt normal and believable as people. The chemistry between them was so hot and the connection very real. Court was a bit of an a$$ when he first learnt the truth regarding Lauren's disappearance 6 years ago but thankfully, once he got over himself, Court grew to understand and accept her choice.
With his alpha male 'bada$$ness' and also his hidden gentle side Court was one smoking hot hero. Lauren wasn't a pushover either, she stood her ground when necessary and made her own choices.
The story really held my interest and whilst some aspects were out of the usual (hacking, FBI agent etc) they were within the realms of possibility. The writing was of a good standard, the plot flowed well and the story was very easy to read. I enjoyed the book enough that I have now bought the first book in the series.
A definite must read! Loved reading about Court and Lauren.
Lauren Montgomery did the one thing she had to breaking the love she shared with Court. The only thought that ran through her mind was she would do anything to protect him. Six years later she has managed to own a profitable bookstore with her best friend Madison. Life as she knows it will soon change. Everything she knows will be threatened and what she lost to protect Court will all be for nothing. Nonstop action and suspense!
King of Clubs is the second title in the Aces & Eights series and features Court Gentry and Lauren Montgomery. This story is a second chance romance, and a romantic suspense. Although this is the second title in the series, it can be read as as standalone I haven't read the previous title and in no way felt lost throughout this title.
Ms Owens has created a pair of characters that are both flawed, whilst at the same time quite believable. I had mixed emotions when it came to Lauren's character. In some ways I found her really quite endearing, and I definitely felt sorry for what she had endured in her past. I respected the fact that she is a survivor, but some of her doubts and resistance really frustrated me. Court on the other hand I really adored, he's a sexy, bad-ass undercover FBI agent. I felt in some ways that Lauren played on his vulnerabilities left over from his childhood. Nevertheless she grew on me as she developed as a character throughout the story line.
The plot is full of twists and turns that kept me completely engaged. A great blend of action, intrigue, suspense and romance. I would recommend this title to anyone who enjoys a second chance romance, combined with a suspense and intrigue.
I received an ARC copy from the author through Netgalley for an honest review.
The King of Clubs is another WINNER by Ms. Sandra Owens. #2 in her new Aces and Eights series. I am absolutely loving this series. And the Gentry brother's. One of the things I love best about Ms. Owens is that her writing is such that she takes you on a whirlwind of emotions. Your right there with the characters. You fall in love with her hero's and want to be friends with her heroines. You laugh. You cry. You get angry. She leaves you on the edge of your seat with the absolute perfect balance of romance and suspense.. I loved everything about the KOC.. KOC is FBI agent and middle Gentry brother, Court's story. We are introduced to Court and Lauren Montgomery in the first Aces and Eights book, Court's baby brother Alex's story, in Jack Of Hearts. Though these can be read as stand alone's. You'll want to read both. I adored Court and Lauren. I'm a sucker for young love/torn apart/separated to be reunited later stories. So that got me. I felt for both Lauren and Court. I don't think I ever wanted to hurt a fictional character the way I wanted to hurt Lauren's Ex, Stephan. Despicable. Ms. Owens has a gift with coming up with original, unique, perfect pet names her hero's give her heroines. I was sighing every time Court called Lauren GG. Or Gorgeous Girl. I liked Lauren's back story. The preacher's daughter fit her perfectly. I could definitely see her as a preacher's daughter. I adored her family. Her Father and kid sister, Julie. I appreciated that Ms. Owens didn't Mr. Montgomery your stereotypical judgemental preacher that are portrayed in so many TV Shows/movies/ and books. He was just a loving Father. With Court's (the Gentry brother's) childhood he was the perfect Father figure/ Father In Law for Court. Ii laughed out loud at Court trying to watch his cursing in front of Mr. Montgomery I couldn't put KOC down. But I'm now sad that it's over. Can't wait for Ace of Spades. Oldest brother Nate's story
