Um, this cutesy Christmas Hallmark-like story was not the best. Most of the time I stay away from contemporary genre because it can get so overrated. I found this one to be overly cheesy, and the main character is not my favorite. Honestly, the only reason why I picked this up is because of the cover. It is just so beautiful!
The main character is so snooty and in love with a boy she barely knows. Also, she is so rude to a boy she also barely knows. I love order and all that, but one does always know about another's situation.
It did have its moments with Charlie and JD, but other than that, Charlie was oblivious to everything going on around her. All she cared about was her crush who I cannot even remember his name now!
This book did have a great writing style, which may be the best part, and a really good pace so I have to give it more than 1 star!
Sorry this is so short, but it is almost my bedtime as I am a tiny bean!(:()
This book was a cute, quick read. Makes me want to read more YA Christmas stories. Thank you to Netgalley for providing me a copy.
This title is cute, but not really anything new. It follows the usual tropes in most YA romances. Although funny at times it feels kind of generic. It was a fun quick read, but if you are looking for more substance try another title.
Ahh this book was so cute! I could tell what the ending would be -- it was a little predictable, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this book at all. I really loved the writing style and the characters.
Charlie reminded me a little bit of myself. She's someone who likes to have control of things, and she likes having a plan. It's something that causes a lot of problems for her with people outside of her friend group, and even those in it. I love how her character grows throughout the novel. She learns how to compromise better and truly begins to listen to others and their opinions.
J. D. and Morgan were easily two characters that complimented Charlie's well. They give her balance and depth that wouldn't be there if there weren't characters who didn't understand her. I was so jealous of Morgan's baking ability the whole book! She has some mad talent that I wish I had. Not only does she make things like cookies and cupcakes, she makes donuts and other cool desserts like that.
The plot, while predictable, was good. I liked the whole set up and the idea of a Secret Santa to win over your crush. I have never been this creative in an attempt to win someone over.
All in all, I highly recommend this one. It's the perfect book to get you in the spirit of the holidays.
My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff is a darling, festive book for teens or those who would like to re-visit their teenagerhoods. Anyone can identify with Charlie and her crush. I didn't love that there were two potential love interests, but that's just a personal preference. Luckily there was no real love triangle, because those can get annoying really fast. The writing was great. I wish there were more YA Christmas romances out there, because they're so fun when done right!
This writing style didn't really work for me and this was a book I wound up DNFing. I did, however, order copies in this holiday season for a display I made at work and still handsell it to the teens!
I really enjoyed this book. I’m sorry I forgot to give feedback in 2017. It was one of my favorite books I read that year.
My New Crush Gave To Me was surprisingly very good. Even though it was a light story, and somewhat silly at times, I found it entertaining to read.
The romance was different than I thought it would be at the beginning, but she ended up with the guy I wanted her to and I liked the ending. Also, I loved the gift giving aspect and that is all I'm going to say about that. ;)
All in all, I'm glad I read this book. A cute mainstream YA story.

It was predictable, but a cute fluffy Christmas read.
It wasn't anything spectacular, but was enjoyable, warm, and the perfect romantic holiday read.
I loved this book! The full review will be posted soon at kaitgoodwin.com/books! Thank you very much for this wonderful opportunity to connect books to their readers!
I’ve been looking forward to reading this but it just didn’t sit well with me. It’s sad because the concept of the story was really cool, but I really couldn’t get past a couple of chapters.
This book was a cute little high school romance. I would give this story a 3-3.5 stars. This is the first book I have read by this author, her writing was good but the story itself didn't grip me from the beginning and have me begging for more, I am not a huge fan of YA so that may be part of my block with this book but it was a quick quirky read and I would recommend to others that are looking for a lighthearted book.
When Charlie wants something she is determined to get it ... with the help of J.D. someone she despises she creates a plan to get J.D.'s cousin Teo to be her date to the Christmas Ball... when all seems to be going according to her plan she will realize some truths of her own and maybe it isn't Teo (the perfect man on paper) that is she is crushing on..

First, I should say that I enjoy a good YA book. This one had the basic story I'm a sucker for.
It is sweet and high school romance filled. You want the characters to make the choices to lead them to where you know they belong. I'm happy to have read this. However, I couldn't get into the main character, Charlie. I wanted to like her,but found my like falling short. I'm not sure why.
All in all, worth a click if you are into YA books.
This was a fun Christmas read, even if it was a little predictable. I must say that Charlie was a little annoying at first. She was always mad at J.D. for something. But, she does become more likable as the story progresses. Petroff does a good job in putting us in Charlie's head. She is very much a teenage girl with a serious crush! It's almost to the point of obsession, but in a funny way. The story was completely in Charlie's POV, which made sense for this story because the plot twists would not have worked if we got in J.D.'s head. Overall, it was a cute, clean, Christmas-themed story. I would recommend for ages 13 and up!
*I received a DRC for an honest review.
I dived into this cute and fluffy contemporary about a Type-A teenage girl who recruits her “annoying” fellow classmate to help snag her a desirable date for the New Year’s dance. There’s cheese, tomfoolery, and some cringe-worthy Christmas caroling, but ultimately it left me smiling and — at times — laughing out loud. And even though I’m past my high school days, this authentic story was a great read for this Hallmark-happy time of year. Full RTC.
This was a cute, fluffy Christmas story. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but the author did a nice job creating a likable (and relatively diverse!) set of characters living in a fun story.
My New Crush Gave to Me is the perfect holiday read that will bring even more warmth and love into your heart. It's a cute little book with plenty on offer if you are looking for contemporary that has heart.
This Christmas-themed YA novel was so cheesy and predictable, but so festive and fun. It felt like a feel good Hallmark movie with a YA spin on it. I enjoyed the minor characters just as much as Charlie and I found myself rooting for her to the very end!
Not my preferred genre, but I liked it well enough. Pretty predictable, but I read more mysteries where there are supposed to be twists.
Charlie is in control of everything in her life from the school news paper to her super planned out schedule. After being dumped, she is in need of a date for the biggest party of the year and hatches a plan to get the cutest guy in the school through the school newspapers Secret Santa.
Charlie was a rather annoying know-it-all. I couldn't wait for the moment when she realized she as wrong about everything. J.D. was an ok nemesis to her. Other writers have played this love-hate relationship better but these two were still cute. I was glad Teo didn't end up being a total villain. A cute holiday romance for fans of John Green's Let It Snow.
“My New Crush Gave to Me” would have been much better as a short story. As a book, it’s cute and a quick read, but there is a lot of filler in there. Once it finally picked up around the middle I enjoyed it, though I could never spend much time in real life around the main character, Charlie!
