Had I known beforehand that The Legend was the final novel in a 3-book series, I'd have never requested an advance reader copy of it from Netgalley. Since I did request it, I felt compelled to read it through to the end, and, unfortunately, this was another case of too many characters and their interrelationships flying at you from the very first page. There are lots of good guys, but even more bad ones, shadow organizations, Black Ops, terrorists bent on world domination, bioweapons, a family of career criminals, the CIA, Delta Force, and eventually a romance of sorts, all of which had my head spinning. The aforementioned certainly hindered any chance I had of truly understanding the characters, their interconnections, their history and their relationships to one another. For that reason, I can only give this novel 3 stars. I highly recommend that this series be read in the order it was written.
This is the first novel I've read by this author, and she writes well. I would definitely read her again, but the level of violence in this supposed romantic suspense novel was off the charts and it surprised me. As for the hero and heroine, Callie and Wyatt, I often felt that I was reading about superheroes rather than normal humans. As a woman, I certainly felt more connected to Callie than I did with Wyatt, who starts out as cold, closed off, and unnecessarily cruel to Callie, who had the misfortune to fall in love with him as a teenager. I did warm up to him eventually, and moderately found myself liking the novel by its end, but as I stated earlier, this novel cannot and should not be read as a standalone.
You need to read the previous books in this series to really fully understand what is going on in this book. While Callie and Wyatt have so much tension between them they still have a job to do, and working together is critical to their survival. Who can you really trust when the reach of these bad guys organization seems to have limitless contacts. So, while The Saints are after Wyatt and her family wants her back to their corrupt organization, it is so fascinating to read how these two work together. There is so much unspoken between Wyatt and Callie and I just want them to have a moment to be real wth each other and Is ant Wyatt to just share how much he need Callie in his life and to clear the air of the past, hated that we had to wait till the end but that is how a good book goes.
This story was intense, but fabulous! Wyatt left Callie years before to save her from himself, but came back to help defend her and his family.
This book was way more than I expected, I loved it. This is book 3 of the Sons of Texas series and it can be read as a stand alone, but I could tell it was not the first book in the series and I was missing key points. I still enjoyed the book as it was, but I will be going back to read the first two books because I felt I was missing the complete picture of what was happening to these characters as well as the back story. I loved this world that Donna Grant has created. It was suspenseful and creative. The characters were highly intriguing and I didn't want to put the book away.
Wyatt and Callie were fun to get to know. They had chemistry and some pretty strong lusting going on. The vivid descriptive writing was right up my alley and kept me glued to the pages. I enjoyed the unique story line. I would highly recommend this romantic suspense.
Wyatt and Callie. I like the suspense. I thought this series was going to end as a trilogy so it was a bit shocked it was continuing but the story is good so I'm glad because there are still so many details left unanswered.
The Legend is the 3rd book in the Sons of Texas series from Donna Grant. I had somehow missed the first 2 books in the series, but felt like the author did a great job catching the reader up on the history of the Loughman family and the other characters in the series.
I enjoyed The Legend. I really loved that Callie and Wyatt had something between them from their past that Wyatt's family didn't ever know for sure happened. The tension and banter between Callie and Wyatt with everything going on honestly made me laugh many times, which was welcome as this book had so many stressful situations. I absolutely loved that both Callie and Wyatt are so protective of the other. I also loved discovering that Wyatt was the reason Callie's family had stayed away for so long.
I do feel like since I picked up The Legend, and it is the third book in the series I missed out on some key elements to the other members of the Loughman family and other characters from the series. I was able to catch on pretty quickly to the various bad guy characters, but it took me a minute each time a new person was mentioned. I loved the romantic suspense elements to the story and felt like Ms. Grant did a great job keeping her readers wanting more. So much so, that I plan to go back and read the first 2 books in the series to better understand all the choices made to date.
I adored Callie and Wyatt as a couple and even with all the turmoil around them. They had super hot chemistry and I was honestly surprised they waited so long to act upon that chemistry. They also truly loved each other and it showed in all the little and big things they did for one another. I enjoyed watching them both finally admit to their feelings and move towards a future together.
I'll say it now. I felt like this book had a bit of a cliffhanger ending. I honestly thought this book would wrap up the series, so imagine my surprise when everything wasn't tied up with a bow at the end. Yes I understood as the book ended we need at least one more story to get the whole Loughman family story, but I was expecting it to wrap up with The Legend, so it put me off a little at the end. That being said, I really enjoyed Ms. Grant's voice and look forward to reading more books from her in the future.
Rating: 3.5 Stars (B)
Unfortunately, I didn't get into this story. At the time I was trying to read it I was having some personal issues that made reading and enjoying hard.
I hope to get back to this story soon! I adore Donna Grant. I am heartbroken I didn't enjoy this story enough to finish the book
A Suspenseful Second Chance Romance
A phenomenal, suspenseful action packed read with a twist of romance, sexy panty dropping, steamy action between the sheets and out.
Wyatt and Callie's love story is a beautiful, tragic, heart wrenching journey that was an absolute honor to read. They both have their own demons, secrets, regrets and pasts that haunts them.
Denying their true desires and feelings will open them up to potential heartbreak but walking away once was one of the hardest things to do; walking away a second time will be even harder but together taking that leap becomes easier because being together makes them stronger.
Donna Grant has become one of my favorite authors to read and The Sons of Texas series has become one of my most favorite series to read this year.
I hope to have the Loughman men make another appearance on my kindle in the near future.
Normally I get sucked in by Donna Grant from the first page. While this story line ended up being okay in the end, it took me a while to get into it. I didn't like the push and pull with the relationship. It was stinted and at times over the top. To be honest, at first I thought someone else must have written this as it isn't Donna's normal writing style. It was a real struggle for me to keep reading at some points in the story. While the characters were well developed and world they lived in was vivid, it still wasn't enough to keep me excited.
Wyatt is someone who has held my interest since the first book to this series. He was so hard headed, tortured and broken that I wanted to know what drove him and his reaction to Callie. His inability to love or be loved broke my heart.
From day one Callie was a favorite for me with all her spunk and determination. She protected those she loves, she recreated her life so she wasn't like her loser family and her skill sets are amazing. At first I thought her dislike of Wyatt seemed a bit much in The Hero and wondered what a book about the two of them would be like. Throughout this book the author expands the past relationship between these two and the reader gets a very clear understanding behind what drives both of them. All this friction adds to an exciting and dramatic story,
This book is about redemption, forgiveness, ever lasting love, and seeing hidden truth behind conflicting words and actions.
I give it 5 STARS for all the action scenes, the sexual tension between Callie and Wyatt as well as the resolution between everyone and Orrin.
First of all I have to say that I have read Donna Grant's paranormal series including Dark Sword and Dark Kings, this is my first read in her contemporary series and I freaking loved it!. Even though I have not read the other 2 previous books, this one did not skip a beat at all. So I had to catch up a bit and find out a little back story but that did not detract me from this story. This book is about Callie and Wyatt and the love that has been simmering for years. I was intrigued and captivated with the fact that they are trying to stop a weapon from falling into the wrong hands. There is action, interspersed with suspense and romance. I loved the way this story flowed and that Callie and Wyatt were finally admitting those deep hidden feelings for each other before Wyatt left. Dealing with the bad guys, and trying to stay ahead of the Saints proved to be a non-stop action, suspense thriller, that I thoroughly enjoyed. In the end, from what I can gather, some questions are finally answered and the story wraps up with HFN as the battle still ensues. 4.5 stars!!!!!
Loved this book! Sexy, suspenseful, romantic - this book has everything! I can't wait to read more in this series! Highly recommend!
This is the third book in the Sons of Texas series. This picks up right after the events of book two. (You can read this as a standalone if you want though. The plot is explained well enough) Wyatt is back home to fight with his brothers against the bad guys that are after their family. He's also got to deal with the girl he left behind but never forgotten.
I really liked both Callie and Wyatt. Callie in particular was a strong heroine and she didn't put up with any nonsense from Wyatt. I thought the romance was done well and I really enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for second chance stories.
The overall plot was fast paced and entertaining and I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

Review will be posted on Goodreads and retailers shortly.
I loved the first 2 books in this series, so I am not sure why this one didn't work for me. But I have chosen not to finish this title and to not review.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to read the title.

The Legend is the third book in the Sons of Texas series by Donna Grant. It was truly a thrill ride with a ton of action. I wish that I had read the other two books, not so much because I needed the other two books for guidance, but more because it was so good that I couldn’t put it down. The Legend was exactly that, legendary. The fight sequences were amazing. The characters were passionate. And, I was drawn in from the very beginning.
The Legend is the story of the oldest Loughman brother, Wyatt Loughman. He is all Delta Force bravado and skill. He literally kills on instinct and is a lethal weapon like no other. Wyatt comes back home to protect his family and the love of his life, Callie Reed. In addition, his family runs a ranch that is a front for a Black Ops organization that stamps out terrorism around the world. This time, they are under attack on all fronts. Past and current enemies join forces to bring down the Loughman clan. Oddly enough, one of those enemies is Callie’s family of criminals who refuse to let her live a life free of crime. Wyatt is relentless when it comes to protecting those that he cares about. When their lives are on the line, he answers the call with precision. Even when he is outnumbered, Wyatt doesn’t even flinch. Callie isn’t too shabby in her skills herself. She may not be as savage as he is but she is a very brave woman. They are made for each other even if they continue to try and deny it. Of course, when they stop denying it, things heat up.
I really loved the family aspect of this book. The fact that the three brothers and their father also play an essential role in saving the world is great. More importantly, none of them are flawless. They appear to be real people with issues that they are willing to set aside for the greater good. And their extended family is quick to come to their aid. The final fight scene was epic and reminded me of a scene from Tombstone. I just may have to go back and read the other two books.
This is the third book in the series by this author. These books should be red in order, as this is the continuing story. Each one of the books is about a different brother but brought together to make one bigger story. Amazing characters you will just fall in love with. A fantastically written story that will keep you hooked to the last page. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book
Callie Reed is no stranger to danger. Her family is notorious for scheming and bilking funds off others. The family business isn’t anything she wants to join. Instead Callie got work at the Loughman’s Ranch with Orrin Loughman, the family’s patriarch, treating her like a daughter. However, his son Wyatt’s feelings towards Callie were never brotherly. When she first came to the ranch Wyatt didn’t trust that Callie wasn’t exactly like her kin, but she proved him wrong with hard work and determination. Wyatt fell hard for her, and their mutual attraction led to a hot and passionate summer, but that quickly came to an end when Wyatt’s mother was murdered and grief and anger took over. Wyatt left the ranch and signed up for Delta Force, but he never forgot Callie. Now fifteen years later Wyatt is back since a nefarious group, The Saints, are targeting his family and the world. Seeing Callie again has stirred up all those long-buried feelings, but do they have any chance together after so long? Can Callie forgive him? Do they even have a future with the danger his family faces? Wyatt doesn’t know that he could even stick around if there was, but he’s beginning to realize all that he missed out on by leaving.
Callie fell in love and had her heart crushed by Wyatt Loughman. The memories of those hot sultry summer nights they spent together so long ago are brought back when Wyatt returns to help, but Callie doesn’t want to let him have a chance to hurt her again, so she tries to keep everything professional and business-like. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and the danger that keeps coming for them underscores the fact that life is short, better grab hold of love while you can.
I enjoyed this story, but I think I would’ve liked it more had I read the previous stories because of the ongoing story arc with the Saints and their past with the Loughman’s. There was much I didn’t understand, and storylines with other characters at play with this installment that I didn’t get. Still, I’m a sucker for a second chance romance, and when the story focused on Callie and Wyatt I perked up. Danger, action, and revelations about the murder of Orrin’s wife (Wyatt’s mother) unfold. Like I said, some of this was over my head. I would like to go back and read/listen to the previous books, because Ms. Grant sets a fast pace and writes an addictive plot.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book, and Sons of Texas series, is not your average romance. While there are definitely steamy and sexy moments, the bulk of the book is action packed. This installment of the Sons of Texas series follows Wyatt Loughman, who is a stubborn and fiercely protective oldest of the Loughman brothers. This book is full of suspense, heat, protectiveness, fierce loyalty, action (with weapons), espionage, and betrayal and the Loughmans work towards saving the world from a biological weapon. Like the book and series, Wyatt's interactions with Callie, a woman who has been like family to the Loughmans for many years, is sexy, smart, frustrating (only because you are rooting for them, and they basically keep self-sabotaging their potential relationship), and so full of heat and longing.
I really enjoyed the book, however do note that the relationship between Wyatt and Callie is just as prominent in the book as the action and goal of the series to protect against the weapon. The book is not a lighthearted read. While I did enjoy this mix, I did have to think about all the events taking place and paying attention to the details does help the reader understand everything going on with the Loughmans and those working with them. While this book can be read as a stand alone, having read one book prior in the series did help me to understand the overall theme of this series through this book, as many characters you meet in earlier books appear throughout this book with prominent roles.
It does appear that there will be another book in the series based off of the slight cliffhanger ending, as it relates to the whole 'saving the world' situation, not necessarily a cliffhanger for Wyatt and Callie (although based on previous books, I am sure they will make an appearance or two if another book in written).
The Legend by Donna Grant is the third book in the Sons of Texas Series. I highly recommend to read the books in order.
The Legend picks up where the Protector ends.
This is Callie and Wyatt's book.
Callie's estranged family is famous for being criminals and she despises them. She's a Black Ops group member. She works with Orrin Loughman, Black Ops leader and rancher.
And there is Wyatt Loughman. He was Delta Forces, but had to return to rescue his father and fight against their enemies.
Only problem is, he has a major crush on Callie for forever.
Orrin's missing and the enemies are on the front porch. Calliue's life is in mortal danger. There are many twists and unexpected turns; spies, traitors, alliances and enemies, ambushes and much much more. Nothing is as it's seems. This book had me at the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down. I liked the characters- the strong heroine and the stubborn hero-, I liked the story, I liked
the words and I give 4,5 Stars. Thank you Donna Grant.
