I couldn't sleep, figured I'd make this my next read. HUGE mistake. I found myself desperately flipping the pages until sleep was a forgotten memory and the night faded away, only stopping when I reached the end. I desperately love a good one sit read. Not because it was that short, but because I simply could not put it down!

The premise was moderately unique, pulling on a trope that has been done before but presenting it in a way that kept it fresh and never dull. The action was on point, keeping me on the edge of my seat, never knowing who was going to make it out alive.

Side note- a few of the deaths had a very gratuitous feel that I don't care for. Still, that didn't detract from the story enough to affect my enjoyment of it.

So many unique characters, so many personalities. I didn't feel as if I got to know them all as well as I would have liked, some of their plots were just light enough that it made it difficult to care. Still, the main ones were strong, and the story was easily carried along by them.

Naomi made for an excellent main character. Learning from her mistakes, growing and developing, all the key elements that make a reader connect with the lead of a story. She was so strong in her way, and became even stronger still as she struggled to overcome.

Besides, this book is full of ravenous sharks determined to eat everything in sight. Seriously, what's not to enjoy?

Good lort am I far behind on reviews. I read this one way back during the most magical week of the entire year . . . . SHARK WEEK!

No one is more familiar with how sharks behave around a group of seals than Naomi Cardiff. You see, awhile back Ms. Naomi thought it would be a great idea to jump into an ocean full of seals in order to get some one-of-a-kind nature photographs. What she ended up with instead???? A missing limb.

Fastforward to the present and a new feeding frenzy in the waters of Cape Cod. This time Naomi has been hired to report on a team of scientists who have developed a signal which will lead the seals – quickly followed by the sharks, natch – away from the touristy areas and over to a remote island instead. The only problems? They will have to play beat the clock with a Nor Easter and something wonky is going on with the sharks’ behavior ever since they started sending out the signal. It doesn’t take long to realize they're going to need a bigger boat.

I try to pick up a sharky book annually in order to keep with the theme. Imagine my delight when an advanced copy of this one was available at just the right time! I try and keep my expectations low and only hope for a teensie bit of plot along with lots of nomming by the sharks on these selections and this one delivered in spades. I was surprised by how much story this included and that we actually got to know the characters before they became shark bait. In fact, the only complaint I have is that there were too many characters. More and more people kept getting added to the mix which was obviously done in order to make a bigger body count. Really, though? I don’t care if 5 people or 25 people get killed as long as it’s good and bloody : )

ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, NetGalley!

what's its about:
A shark attack survivor believes she has already lived through her worst nightmare. She's dead wrong. . .

Naomi Cardiff is not one to give up without a fight and now, after learning about a series of shark attacks in Cape Cod, she s joined a team of scientists to put a stop to the terror. The plan: to lure the sharks to a remote island far from the populated coastline. Meanwhile, a fierce Nor Easter is underway. . .

In the midst of the storm, an alarming number of Great Whites have come to slaughter the seals in a vicious feeding frenzy. When sharks ram and breach the hull, Naomi and her team must jump ship and swim desperately through a sea of circling fins and gaping jaws to the tiny island. But as the swells from the storm begin to swallow their rocky refuge, how will they manage to make it out alive

my thoughts:
5 stars
OMG this book is a must read , it has every thing in it that I love when it comes to a scary book like this one, and then some, the characters are great and come from different back grounds of life ,
LGBTQA characters, it also shows you what can happen if you mess with mother nature , its the type of book that once you start to read it ,it pulls you in and it makes you want to keep reading, plus it makes you feel like you never want to go back into the water on get on a boat after reading it, I know I won't be doing either of those . With that said I would love to say thinks to NetGalley for letting me read what turned out to be one of my new favorite books of 2017 ,.

A good summertime read. Not too serious and a lot of fun. Take it to the beach but watch the water!

This is a very entertaining read.

Note that it's more of a serious thriller than SF Shark Week fodder. While I love cheesy shark week type books, I did enjoy this one.

Our sharks here aren't Jaws The Revenge types. These are just hungry, aggressive beasties who like to chomp.

Naomi is a great character. I really liked her and was rooting for her all the way.

Expect blood and bits of bodies throughout. Serious thriller it may be, but that doesn't mean you don't get severed body parts aplenty!

While I did miss just the tiniest bit of cheese, this was a good thriller that would make a very dramatic film.

I've been racking my brain trying to think of the last shark book I read, and come to think of it, I don't think I've read any proper shark-fic. I've read books with giant squids, aquatic parasites, and oceans full of otherworldly terrors, but have somehow managed to avoid Great Whites altogether. So, consider this my first proper introduction to this popular horror staple, and just in time for Shark Week!

After reading Shark Island, I can certainly see the appeal behind this particular sub-genre, and this book is pretty well crafted and entertaining as all get-out. Naomi is a shark attack survivor, and one year after her near-death experience she joins the scientific crew of the Thaumas to document their efforts in relocating a massive proliferation of seals off the Massachusetts coastline. The plan is to use an acoustic wave to target the seals, get them to follow the Thaumas and relocate them to the remote island of Bald Cap. The seals essentially become bait to help move the sharks away from the Cape Cod shoreline, but the acoustic signal has some unexpected side-effects (well, to the scientists anyway. Even people who have never read shark-fic before will know things have to go sideways pretty quickly with a plan like this.). Throw in a brewing Nor'Easter, a whole lot of blood-lust, and you've got a seriously fun The Perfect Storm by way of Jaws mashup.

Chris Jameson delivers a knock-out debut that kept me constantly wanting to know what's going to happen and who's next on the chopping block. Suitable to a shark horror story, there's plenty of chum in the water thanks to our large cast of characters, and the body-count is significant. The characters are all pretty well developed, each one given a strong moment to shine, if not several, and their interpersonal relationships are all believable and well drawn.

The main draw to Shark Island is, of course, the sharks, but Jameson keeps the human factor front and center, never letting you forget that these are normal people caught up in horrific circumstances. And while the narrative gets pretty bleak, with some moments that are downright hopeless, the story maintains an energetic buoyancy that kept me sailing through each page. The ending is a bit on the simple side, but makes up for it with an emotionally resonant send-off in the last few chapters.

This one is getting all five stars from me for being a wicked bit of fun. I was craving a solid bit of shark action and got exactly what I wanted out of this one. This was just pure joy for me!

Naomi Cardiff never feared the water but a casual outing with her girlfriend changes everything. She only wanted to take pictures of the seals in the area but the seals have drawn the attention of sharks as well and a fun outing soon turns into a fight for her life. The uproar over the attack on Naomi is quickly politicized. Subsequently, a scientific expedition is launched to lure the seals away from the coastline and Naomi uses her family connections to barge in on the expedition. Naomi is determined to face her fears… but no one on the expedition planned to face the sharks in the midst of a Nor’easter.

Wow! I love action tales where the very survival of the characters is at stake and oh boy is this ever the case in SHARK ISLAND. Chris Jameson puts his characters in the most precarious of positions even as he highlights the dangers that can occur when man meddles with nature. I like that Chris Jameson introduced us to characters on each side of the issue, as it gave us a chance to see that the issues underlying the experiment weren’t as straightforward as simply moving seals from one location to another.

However, the sharks are the true heart and soul of SHARK ISLAND. Their relentless attacks on anyone and everyone had me questioning if anyone would survive the expedition. I’ve been a fan of shark movies ever since the release of the first Jaws movie and SHARK ISLAND captured that fear perfectly.

SHARK ISLAND is the first book written by Chris Jameson and I had trouble putting it down even for a single moment. The action never stops as the author plunges you headlong into Naomi’s first attack and then leads you straight into the dangerous expedition she embarks on. If you love tales of survival, then SHARK ISLAND is just what you are looking for this summer.

Very unbelievable. The entire premise was to lure the sharks away from Cape Cod by broadcasting a signal that turned the seals into robots who could no longer think and act on their own, regardless of the danger they were in. This signal also turned the sharks into vicious killing machines with a revenge complex. It just seems far too outlandish. I was bored for the first half until the characters actually become stranded. And then I spent the second half rolling my eyes. I didn't like any of the characters, and found their backstories very boring and drawn out. There was an INSANE amount of profanity and gory, bloody shark attacks. Sharks were flying out of the water and snapping bodies in half with one bite, sending all kinds of carnage and refuse into the water. There was so much blood that people were feeling the water temperature rise. It was just too much gore, too much profanity, too unbelievable, and too over the top dramatic and theatrical for me. I'm willing to suspend disbelief, but this was gratuitously silly.

I received a digital copy of this novel from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I have been a big fan of shark fiction ever since I saw Jaws on the big screen at age 5. But this novel ain't no Jaws. It's not even Sharnado. At least Sharknado has the decency not to take itself seriously, whereas this novel tries to play it straight throughout despite it's ludicrous plot. Just like a poorly constructed ScyFy channel movie, the author plays the same tricks on the reader over and over. I don't think it's a spoiler to say lots of people get eaten in this book since it's called Shark Island and not Puppy Island. By the time the last person gets chomped to bits the reader will find themselves yawning through it. It's still kind of a fun read if you have very low expectations and can just take it as another work of sharkploitation, so I give it 2 stars for that.

We see it in the news all the time, Great White sharks are appearing in record numbers off the Northeastern coast of the U.S. Is it global warming? Whatever the reason, we all shudder, there’s a primordial fear of things larger and more dangerous than humans. In this story, Naomi Cardiff, a woman who survived a shark attack, now studies the creatures behavior. When sightings of large groups of sharks and then shark attacks occur off the coast of Massachusetts, she and a group of scientists struggle to figure out why. Now, with a Nor’easter bearing down and the scientists’ ship sinking at sea, they are forced to abandon ship and try to survive on a tiny island in an ocean full of hungry predators. The perfect beach read, although you may decide to stay out of the water!
