I'm not sure how, but Donna Andrews consistently delivers a well-written, enjoyable mystery. Every Single Time. Meg's family might be a bit confusing for those who haven't read the earlier books, but new and old readers will enjoy Gone Gull.
The newly minted Biscuit Mountain Craft Center has been experiencing a raft of vandalism. Meg Langslow is there to teach blacksmithing and support her grandmother, who owns Biscuit Mountain. When Meg discovers the body of one of the other instructors, she adds sleuthing to her list of duties.
After twenty previous entries in the series, there aren't a lot of surprises here. Quirky, well-drawn characters--including much of the Langslow family--and deft plotting makes for a satisfying read.
A lot of the charm is spending more time with Meg and company, but newcomers could definitely start here without being lost--and then go hunt up the rest of the series.
GONE GULL:A MEG LANGSLOW MYSTERY BY DONNA ANDREWS is the 21st book in the series. Don't worry folks, Meg & Ms Andrews are still going strong!
I became a fan of Meg's some time ago and have all of the series. Yes folks, Meg and her rather wacky family is in GONE GULL, all of them. This time they are at Biscuit Mountain Arts and Crafts Center which is run by Cordelia, Megs newly found grandmother. Problem is all is not going to plan. Not only is there a vandall on the premises but someone has started murdering people. Meg, is trying to find out who plus find the vandall and keep teaching blacksmithing to here students. Meg is also trying to find the thought to be extinct Org Gulls which her grandfather wants to save.

I give Andrews top marks for keeping her story lines and locations fresh for 21 books. As is typical, but even more so in Gull, Meg takes center stage. Many of her usual family members have brief cameos with two new members introduced. Given the family's propensity for trouble, I can see these newbies appearing often in future books.
While there was plenty to like, I found it hard to stay engaged. I would really like Meg to have a sidekick helping with her investigations. It could vary from book to book or be one person. I miss that chemistry and by play. The killer also outs themself and it really still could have been almost anyone based on the little useful info. meg uncovers . in this one, she eliminates (mostly family) more than uncovers.
