This was such a delightful read! In a similar vein as How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, it's a fluffy and cute paranormal/fantasy romance with characters that are just so freak'n adorable. I'm not sure why I was surprised by how light the tone of the story is (maybe because it's a fantasy?) but it definitely was a good surprise.

The story and adventure is fun and action-packed. Brigitta ends up being kidnapped by the Dread pirate Rupert, there's adventuring out on the sea and when Brigitta finds out she's actually a long lost princess, we have some suitors battling it out to win her hand.

I loved the chemistry between Brigitta and Rupert. Okay, I'll admit, it's a bit insta-love but they're very very cute! The awkward flirting and the sweet moments were spot on and I liked that they were able to connect on a deeper level. And I love that Rupert was a charmer when he needed to be.

Rupert's revenge story (and cool powers) adds to the plot and creates a little big of an obstacle to a happily ever after (along with Brigitta's villainous brother. And yay! More Brody! I was so very happy to see more of Brody and definitely cannot wait for his story! Actually, all the secondary characters were pretty awesome (unless they were the bad guys, ha).

Overall, So Married a Sorcerer is cute, fluffy, fantasy fun! This was definitely a fun addition to the series. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll have a fun time with this, too!

""Oh, I'm scared."
He took a step towards her, his eye gleaming. "You should be."
She moved back. "Aye, the tidy pirate might capture me and wash my clothes."
His mouth twitched. "I'd have to remove them first.""

How have I missed this series? This new series from talented Ms. Sparks captures my attention and keeps me riveted from the first page to the end. Full disclosure, I did not read the book before this one and I will be buying it to read. It is possible to get caught up just reading this book as a standalone.

I love this new world. I love the concept of being embraced just as I like the different kingdoms. A feudal world with warring factions, despots, betrayal and a lost prince, what could be more interesting? Ah yes, magic and mutant powers!

Britta is a sheltered embraced witch who lived in a protective island where her father sent her. She doesn't know her history but when it comes to light, it throws her into a loop. When she is captured by her blood brother's army and then stolen by a handsome pirate, her staid life becomes too exciting. She knew this would happen because one of her sisters foretold this happening through her foresight. Britta has been bracing herself for this day and yet she is still completely unprepared.

I loved the snark and humour in this story. The characters are obstinate and contrary in fun ways. Britta and Rupert's chemistry may start out hostile but it is only because of their families. And they have to fight to define themselves as individuals, not the son and daughter of their respective feuding fathers.

This story is built on heartache and lost. The betrayals and the horrible things that happen to loved ones is heartbreaking. I love Rupert and feel so bad for what happened to his family. And his one surviving member who is found, it is just sad. Whilst this is all going on, there is an insidious enemy no one can identify or find. The goal of this enemy is clear, it isn't known if he is alone or if there are more. And what other agenda does this mysterious shifter have? He causes misunderstanding, trouble and destruction everywhere he goes.

This colour world with a star cross lover theme is recommended to all paranormal romance readers.

I'm sorry. I just could not get into this book. The characters didn't mesh and I didn't feel the pull. I really wanted to like it too.

So I Married a Sorcerer begins with Brigitta and her “sisters” traveling from the convent they’ve called home all of their lives to attend the wedding of their beloved sister, Luciana. As they near their destination, they encounter two groups of ships who have one thing in mind: kidnap Brigitta. More than shocked that anyone would want her, Brigitta is finally told that she is a princess. A princess that her treacherous half-brother needs in order to solidify his rein and a princess that the pirate, Rupert, needs to set his plan for revenge into motion. When Rupert takes control of the situation, and Brigitta, it doesn’t take him long to question everything he thinks he’s wanted all these years. It takes Brigitta even less time to question not only her attraction to him, but also the visions that plague her every time he touches her. She knows that logically she should fear him. He did kidnap her after all. However, it doesn’t take her long to figure out that he would never really hurt her and he is a better man than even he knows.

So I Married a Sorcerer is a wonderful addition to The Embraced Series. Kerrelyn Sparks has built another world that pulls you in right from the beginning. Brigitta is an endearing character who is naïve in the ways of the world, but wise beyond her years in her steadfast loyalty to those she loves. Rupert has been driven for years in his need for revenge, but rethinks everything once he gets to know Brigitta. Their back story surprised me a little bit and I loved how it played out. The supporting characters, as always in anything written by Sparks, always leave you wanting more. These books are romance stories, but they are written almost sweetly, with a little slow burn, a little humor and a whole lot of creativity. If you’re looking for a quick read that will leave your heart smiling, you will never go wrong with anything written by Sparks. I look forward to the next installment. Well done, Kerrelyn Sparks! Very well done!

4.5 stars!

Alright. I know I said that I wouldn't be continuing on in this series, but I received a copy from Netgalley and decided to continue. And I am so happy that I did!

This novel was better than the first [in my opinion]. It was filled with adventure, excitement, hidden identities, secrets (so many secrets), romance (ahh, the lovebugs!), tournaments, bad kings, mysterious dragons, and once again the Chameleon trying to take over the world. I really loved Brigitta's strength and determination and sense of rightness. Rupert was hilarious in his antics and his responses to Brigitta's stubbornness, and I just loved him so much. The side characters were all amazing as well--Brody, Sister Fallyn, Jeffrey, Stefan. And I swooned over Sister Fallyn's love story even harder than Brigitta's; those two were just so adorable! Overall, I am sooo happy I decided to read this book and will DEFINITELY be continuing on in this series :)

I voluntarily read an advanced reviewers copy of this book

This is the second book in the series and I must say that I like the direction that it is going. Brigitta has lived her life hiding who she is from the world. On a trip to visit one of her sisters she is kidnapped and brought on the best adventure of her life.

Overall this was a really good book packed with action, suspense and romance.

I really enjoyed book one of Kerrelyn Sparks, The Embraced series I just had to read book two.

I truly enjoyed the world set up and how easily it is explained and I also enjoyed the background detail that went into both characters. As in a lot of these romance stories you have a storyline where Rupert wants nothing more than revenge for his family and Brigitta is his target and she has no clue what is going on. What is different in this story than? Well, the world and the way they handled were very different. I love the way the author had Brigitta to find all of the pieces to put the whole family background together and took it to Rupert and both characters fit together very nicely.

Overall the book was very good, but I had a couple of issues. I had mixed feeling on how the villain, Brigitta brother was handled. One part of me wished he was put out of his misery, while the other part if me is fine with the way it was handled even though I felt it was tad wimpy on her part after what all he’d done to everyone. There is no way she would have been able to have gotten by with riding a horse that long to help Rupert, being a horse rider newbie. I cannot believe nobody caught that bit before publishing. Sister Fallyn while she is adorable as a nun she was on my last nerve with the whole “pirates are going to ravish us” bit. The heck of it was she fell in love with one of them. What the heck? After screaming for days about them going to ravish them and now wants to be ravished by one. Yeah, well only in romance can you get by with those kind of lines. LOL

All in all, I did enjoy the story, characters and as Sparks fan I am glad I didn’t miss out on this story. I will be looking forward to book three.

I did not read the first book in the series, although it is part of a series the story stands on it’s own. The story was not interesting to me right away, it wasn’t until about halfway through the book that my interest was truly peaked. Once Rupert’s backstory was revealed things got interesting. Also Brigitta’s magical power allowed her to know Rupert extremely deeply so it excused the insta love that plagues these types of stories. The other characters were well thought out and fun to read. I liked that everyone participated in the second half’s adventures and that there was no damsel in distress. But a young woman fighting to take control of her destiny. The world building was great, and I very much looking forward to future books featuring dragons. elves, shapeshifters, and demons.

I was both so anxious to read this book and at the same time scared. First anxious because I loved the first book and couldn’t wait to continue the story. But scared because I loved the first book and I didn’t want this one to disappoint me and then lose one of my new paranormal series to look forward to. Rest assured, this was as fun a ride as I was expecting.

But also nothing like I thought it would be! Sorcerers, pirates, traveling in the high seas, kidnapping, dragons, and another battle for a throne and the princess’s heart. SO I MARRIED A SORCERER was packed full of entertainment. The world building is, again, original and fresh and it gives us a different glimpse of this world than what we saw in the first book. The plot and pacing are engaging and never dragging. I was glued to this story.

And then there’s the characters. Main and side characters alike, what a great cast this is. Brigitta is one of the Embraced sisters from the Isle of Moon. Her embraced power is being able to tell when someone is hiding secrets and finding lost items. She knows pretty quickly that the evil pirate, Rupert, that has kidnapped her is hiding more than his fair share. He also may be the man she’s supposed to marry because she can feel the connection between them. While Brigitta and Rupert start out in opposite sides of Rupert’s revenge plans, their lives become intertwined in ways he wasn’t expecting.

I don’t want to give away what this is all about, so you’ll have to read it to find out. I am so pleased with this novel because even though it was different than I thought it would be, it still delivered an amazing story with the exact feel that I wanted. While this was more of a slow burn romance, Brigitta and Rupert had plenty of chemistry sizzling the pages. The overall story arc kept me interested and since I’m so invested in the rest of the sisters, I cannot wait for the next one to find her love match.

I loved this novel. It had everything I need in a book. It had romance, action, magic, and PIRATES!!! Everything can be better with pirates. Kerrelyn Sparks did a fantastic job.

I love characters, characters are so important to me when I read a novel. In ‘So I Married a Sorcerer’ I feel in love with Rupert and Brigitta. Their ups and downs, and their struggle for love and survival. It was an amazing journey.

But even though I am gushing about the book there was one thing that I didn’t prefer. There were some cases, one in particular that I can’t mention without spoilers, where the characters didn’t act realistic, they acted against their personality. There is one scene that I’m really focusing on where a character acted way out there and against their personality, and it was done so that Rupert and Brigitta could have that happily ever after. I love a happily ever after, but in this case I feel like it ruined the scene.

Overall, a great read.

Finally, So I Married a Sorcerer by Kerrelyn Sparks is an utterly charming and delightful romance. The second book in her Embraced Series — described as Game of Thrones meets The Princess Bride — pairs an infamous pirate with a long lost princess in a story full of deception, danger, and fire breathing dragons. Oh, and it's a comedy.

Rupert is the most feared pirate in Aerthlan due to his ability to command the wind (Gotta love a hero with magical powers). His goal is simple: kidnap the long lost princess of Tourin, and use her to enact revenge on her half-brother, the King, who is legitimately The Worst Ever. As befitting a romance heroine, Princess Brigitta has "crazy" notions about getting to choose her destiny, and it doesn't involve being kidnapped and ransomed. Yet sparks fly between this "sorcerer of the wind" and this charmingly "overly dramatic" heroine who has some special powers of her own. After falling in love on the High Seas, they realize — naturally — that love might be the best revenge after all, making for a fast-paced story with tons of twists and turns that'll leave you guessing right up to the end just how Rupert and Brigitta will pull off a happily-ever-after.

This is the second book in Sparks' Embraced series. I liked the first book, and equally liked this one.

This has paranormal elements, but to me this reads like fantasy romance.

It is the writing, for me anyways, that makes this a good read. Sparks has a way of adding quite a hefty dose of humor to her writing so that there is not many times where this story does not make you snicker about one thing or another.

I recommend this to fans of the author and the genre. thanks

The second installment in the Embraced series is even better than its predecessor! I love how well Ms. Sparks connects her characters and their "special abilities*, and as I read I keep noticing how she sets up the next book within the one I'm reading. I'm really looking forward to reading more and finding out what happens to the other girls.

For the sake of being 100% honest, I had to give this book 4 stars instead of 5 for three reasons:
#1: The over use of Sister Fallyn making the signs of the moons in the beginning of the book.
#2: The over use of the phrase "overly dramatic"
#3: Brigitta's ability didn't seem to work when she hugged, kissed, or petted at points. This was the only inconsistency I found in this book and I checked back on the previous book, this wasn't there

I love Kerrelyn Sparks and this new series is a lot of fun.

The telling stones have been indicating for months that something big is about to happen to Brigitta. Nonetheless, she isn’t expecting to find out that she’s a secret long-lost princess whose evil brother has sent his men to retrieve her. But that turns out to not be as big a problem as the wind sorcerer pirate who has just kidnapped her! Brigitta boards his ship armed with her wits, a secret power, a shapeshifter protector she doesn’t know about, and a nun companion hell bent on preventing any kind of ravishing whatsoever.

The notorious pirate Rupert sails the high seas attacking royal Tournian ships and stealing all of their gold. He’s basically a fantasy sea-faring Robin Hood who only steals from the evil king (Brigitta’s brother). He mostly snatches Brigitta just because her brother wants her. There’s a vague plan about bartering her for gold, but Rupert and his pals are the good guys and not at all the kind of people who can barter with human lives. So that’s pretty much a non-starter from the beginning.

This book is just bonkers, really. There are sorcerers, secrets, improbable inventions, naked pirate butt, dragons, and more. At one point, I shit you not, there is a bonafide “ye olde medieval american ninja course” complete with a wild boar hazard. That one made me giggle.

This book was a lot of fun once it got going, but the first third really drags. So getting to the good stuff is a bit of a slog. Also, if you hate insta-love stories, then this is not a tale for you. It takes like a week for both Brigitta and her nun protector to fall in love with their respective menfolk. It worked for me, but your mileage may vary. I didn’t think this one was quite as strong as the first book in the series, How To Tame A Beast In Seven Days, which is a Beauty and the Beast story with a heroine who sees (and talk to) dead people. Both books are good escapist fun, though.
