This is the second title in a series and I have not read the first, but Sparks does a good job of getting the reader up to speed. I wasn't confused or lost at any point, but reading the first would just give you a richer experience of the world.

Speaking of, I like the world Sparks has created and it's interesting enough that I will probably read the first and seek out the third when it's published.

The story is good, the writing is decent and the characters are alright. I never really feel in love with Rupert or Brigitta, but a few of the secondary characters caught my eye. I did appreciate the Errol Flynn imagery for Rupert. I thought the story took a while to really get going, even though there is a lot happening.

Annoyances, with super mild <spoiler>

Rupert's hat with attached braids had me picturing this:

<img src="http://www.zymetrical.com/images/rasta-cap-braids.jpg"/>

So not sexy.

I understand the reasoning behind the repetition for the three key phrases, but I feel like there were way too many. By the midpoint every time I ran across one my eyes rolled.

There were a few places where the characters or scenery broke from their world, making it hard for me to really immerse myself in the medieval type setting. </spoiler>

All of the annoyances kept this from getting more stars from me, but it's a book I could still recommend for anyone wanting a light, typical genre read set in an interesting world.

I was given a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Brigitta is one of the Embraced. She and her other "sisters" were left at a convent for their own safety as if found the embraced were killed. As she and her other sister's are traveling to be with their oldest sister when she gives birth their boat is stopped by someone looking for her. This is when Brigitta learns the truth about her background.

It seems that she is a Princess of Tourin and her brother wants her to come home... Poor Brigitta has so much to take in. The Tourin Navy plans on taking her to her brother but then someone else arrives and stops it....the famous pirate Rupert.

Rupert now has Brigitta and his plans are to ransom her to her brother. Rupert wants revenge against her evil brother but as he gets to know Brigitta, revenge doesn't sound so appealing. The only problem is, her brother will not stop until he has her...

Will Brigitta survive her brothers awful plans? What is Rupert hiding?

This started off a bit slow for me but I am not sure if it was the story or if maybe I was tired or distracted. Once Brigitta is with Rupert the story really begins to move and there is quite a bit of action.

Rupert is an awesome character. He is also Embraced, he is a wind sorcerer and this came in quite handy! He really is a good man who experienced a terrible tragedy in his childhood which grew into his need for revenge. His story is really heartbreaking. He is also very smart and is an inventor. The reputation of Rupert is much more evil than the actual man.

Even though he tries to deny his feelings for Brigitta, she is definitely getting to him. She is even willing to risk her life for him....

This really was a good story and was written well. Brigitta's brother is so slimy, you know there is not one redeeming quality about him. I loved Rupert's "Captain" of his ship, a man who raised Rupert. I would recommend this story.

I enjoyed Rupert and Brigitta--they were both likable characters. I also liked the premise of the story, but I don't want to include any spoilers here.

But what I LOVED about the book was the humor, from understated to laugh out loud. The running joke of being ravished was funny, and I'll always remember the hilarious lines in Rupert and Brigitta's "first time."

Romance will always be my absolutely favorite genre of books, no matter if its contemporary, PR, or anything (almost) in-between. Theres just something about romance books that are like no other style of books. I want those ahh moments and the excitement of the hero and heroine falling in love and everything that comes with a great romance book. But I must admit that one thing I undoubtedly love about Urban Fantasy is the world building. Authors who write UF really do an amazing job creating worlds that are so really and intricate.

That is what Kerrelyn Sparks is doing with this series. In book one I was amazed at the world she created and in this book I was blown away that she has yet again created this fantasy world(and keeps building onto it) that is so intricate, with each book she just keeps creating this amazing universe so unlike ours and so magical, and then if that isn't enough she creates these characters that you easily fall in love with and root for. From beginning to end she keeps you completely invested and hooked on the story she tells.

This book gives us Brigitta's story who we met in book one. On her way to being reunited with her very pregnant sister, the ship Brigitta and her sisters are on is taken over by another kingdoms navy, and if that isn't enough Brigitta learns who she truly is and then a pirate kidnaps her. When her sister pulled the telling stones out of the bag months ago and told Brigitta's future, Brigitta knew they were true and has waited for her time to come. Now that she is a prisoner for a pirate she knows this is part of her future. The more time she spends with the pirate Rupert Brigitta becomes convinced he isn't who he says he is and he is her tall dark and handsome she has been told about.

Rupert has wanted nothing but revenge since his family and rightful future was stolen from him and that has been the only thing Rupert has thought of for twelve long years. When he see's Brigitta Rupert is sure she is just another way to take back what is his even if he has to use Brigitta to do it. But Brigitta isn't who he thought she was and soon she becomes so much more to him. Both Rupert and Brigitta hold many secrets and are scared to reveal them but soon they find themselves falling in love. But Brigitta's brother has plans for her and they don't include Rupert at all.

I loved this book, Book one was great and this one is the perfect continuation to the series. Though this series is very different from Kerrelyn Sparks other series this one is just as memorable. From beginning to end you are immersed into this world and along for the ride with Brigitta and Rupert. Not only did I love both Rupert and Brigitta but the side characters were just as great and important. I can't wait for the rest of this series and to see how it all ends(this book is a complete book, like book one but the storyline is a continuation). I can't recommend this one enough and I can't wait for book three, thank goodness we don't seem to have to wait too long in between.

*Thank you NetGallery and St. Martin's Press/St. Martin's Paperbacks for this Arc for my review

I received a free copy of Kerrington Sparks newest chapter in her Embraced series, So I Married a Sorcerer from Net Galley. Truly a great plot, action packed, mixed with romance I could not put this book down. King Gunther, the ruler of Tourin, rules his kingdom with a iron fist and a black heart. He wants to ensure his ruke over his kingdom and he will with his sister. Brigitta grew up on the Isle of Moon and unknown to her the Princess of Tourin. Brigitta and her sisters set off to see their sister Luciana in Eberon. However, Brigitta is kidnapped by the pirate and sorcerer Rupert. Rupert has something else planned for the Princess. However, when the fates collide things do not go as planned. If you historical pararomance, give this a read, you will not regret it.

3.5 stars.
This is book two of The Embraced Series. Rupert has been tormented by his past losses. So much so that he kidnaps Brigitta in order to exact his revenge. Of course, they fall in love. I did not enjoy this book as much as the first, I thought it was too long, and much of the book could have been wrapped up in less pages. I did enjoy seeing some of the old characters like Broady, and of course the continuing mystery of the Embraced Sisters. Sorcha's story would be interesting to read next.

ARC received for review. This is the 2nd book in the embraced series. This one follows Brigitta and the infamous pirate Rupert. I loved this one as much as the 1st. This one has dashing heroes not found in usual places. Competitions and dragons, which always makes me happy. Can't wait for book three in this exciting and thrilling series.

So I Married a Sorcerer is the second book in The Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks. I really enjoyed How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days and was looking forward to reading the second book. So I Married a Sorcerer is a great addition to the series and I loved it as much as the first book. I love the fantasy world that Ms. Sparks created and I love her characters, the Embraced sisters we met in the first book and the men who fall in love with them. The writing is fun (I was grinning a lot while reading), the characters are complex and interesting, and the chemistry between them is sizzling. Rupert and Brigitta are so good together, I was rooting for them from the moment they met.

There is a lot of adventure, action, danger, and new and old villains. It is best to read this book after reading the first book, because even though this book is about a different couple, there is an important story arc (of Chameleon) that started in How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days and has a major part in So I Married a Sorcerer. Also a lot of characters from How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days appear in this book and some play an important role in this story as well. I am loving the fantasy world of The Embraced and looking forward to the next book.

This is the second book in The Embraced series and it does not disappoint. The story revolves around Brigitta who's gift is finding lost things, whether it be items or memories. While on her way to visit her convent sister Luciana, she is kidnapped by the infamous pirate Rupert. Rupert is on a path of revenge for his murdered family and Brigitta is a means to an end. Neither Rupert nor Brigitta expected to have sparks fly whenever they are together and Brigitta is shocked by the memories she uncovers when Rupert touches her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and loved how the romance between Rupert and Brigitta developed. Sister Fallon is a nice addition to the story. The poor nun is forever terrified that both she and Brigitta will be ravished by the sailors on the pirate ship. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book and the plot flows along nicely. The world has been established in the first book, but more details emerge in this story. I'm anxiously awaiting the 3rd book in the series. Fans of romance and fantasy will definitely enjoy this book.

Another amazing story in this second book in the Embraced Series. Kerrelyn Sparks really knows how to write a very adventurous love story that made it so hard for me to put down until the very end. Action packed adventure filled with handsome pirates, lost prince and princesses, evil kings, secrets and conspiracies, shape shifters, dragons, and cool powers. This story has it all. I really love all the magical qualities in these stories and the new world she has created. This story reads kind of like a historical romance but still has a contemporary feel to it. I'm not sure if I'm describing it correctly but bottom line is that it's an amazing story. I totally fell in love with Rupert and Brigitta. Individually they were great but together they were absolutely wonderful. Loved their characters and how their relationship developed. There were many emotional parts that really added to the storyline and really wonderful secondary characters. I seriously am in love with this new series and I can't wait to read more.

Amazing second book. It was just WOW!

My heart just broke for Rupert and everything he had been through. Brigitta is just perfect for him. Loved the side romance with Sister Fallyn and Stefan. There was lots of drama, action, plus sweet times and romance. Loved seeing all the sisters again. Can't wait for the next book...dragons...

This was a really good read. Had you asked me if this series was my cup of tea, I’d say probably not. Thankfully, the publisher invited me to review So I Married a Sorcerer and I’ve discovered something new about myself. I very much enjoyed this read. I don’t consider myself a fantasy/sci-fi reader, but obviously I should.

Well-written and engaging, I highly recommend it.

Oh. My. God. I think I just found my newest favorite series! I had already read How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days, so I already knew Luciana and her Leo. Brigitta is an Embraced, just as Luciana and her other sisters from the convent. The story starts, when Brigitta and her sisters embark on a journey by sea to go visit Luciana.

You don't have to read the first part to know why the sisters go to meet Luciana, but I would highly recommend it (mostly because I don't want you to miss out on yummie Leo...).

While underway, their ship is being followed by some guards of Tourin. And just when Brigitta is (sort of) politely asked to follow the men to the King of Tourin (who turns out to be her half-brother), a very hunky and scary pirate is whisking Brigitta away. Rupert happens to have heard about the half-sister of the King and the reason the King is determined to have Brigitta in his kingdom. But Rupert has ideas of his own, to use Brigitta for his revenge against the King.

Torn between two evils, Brigitta vows to escape and flee back to her sisters. But what she didn't realize, was the instant attraction between her and her captor, Rupert. Embraced with the gift of finding lost things, lost memories and lost feelings, Brigitta soon begins to unravel all the secrets Rupert has been hiding from everyone.

And when Rupert realizes she is more than just a pawn to get his revenge, will he be able to convince Brigitta to take his side in this quest? Or will his secrets scare her away?

Since I don't want to spoil the story for you, I can only say: high praise for Kerrelyn! Again, a fastpaced, witty, emotional and very original story. Keep 'm coming, I will be awaiting the next parts to see what will happen to the other Embraced sisters, starting with Gwennore in Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon. I can hardly wait! Five out of five stars from me. And a thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

I read the first novel in this series and I enjoyed it. This book in the second novel and it was just as good as the first. Ms.Sparks does an excellent job of writing and keeps you in suspense. The novel flowed very well and we get to see several of the characters for the first novel. The romance, magic, action, adventure, and many other themes keep you enthralled from start to finish. I cannot wait to read the next novel in the series!!
Brigitta grew up on the Isle of Moon with her other adopted sisters who are all Embraced. Brigitta has an ability to "find things", whether its an item or a memory. When shes learns she is the princess ofTourin, she is shocked. Her half-brother, the king, needs her to supply an heir for him. The prediction from the previous book is coming to pass. When pirates come upon their ship, Brigitta goes with them to protect her "sisters" and Sister Fallyn goes with her.
Rupert has a score to settle with the king of Tourin. He is a wind sorcerer and a pirates who has been causing problems for Tourin. But, he only steals from Tourin and helps the people, who think he is a hero. He takes Brigitta and Fallyn onto his ship. He plans to ransom Brigitta, but when he meets her, he wants to get to know her. Rupert has many secrets (and I will not reveal them....you will just have to read the novel to find out!!). There were some funny moments on the ship, especially about being "ravished". Rupert becomes frustrated with himself, since he believes Brigitta is the enemy, but he sees how different she is and recalls a moment from a long time ago.
As Brigitta and Rupert travel together, their attraction for each other skyrockets. They still cannot trust each other though, which creates much conflict between them. However, Brigitta realizes what she must do if she wants Rupert to be successful is his revenge. This leads them onto a dangerous path and follows Luciana's prediction. Brigitta believes Rupert to be a brave and good man. Now, she must be brave and make sacrifices. Rupert begins to have strong feelings for Brigitta and wants to keep her safe, but realizes putting her in danger is the only option they have.
As their plan continues, more secrets come to light that affect both Rupert and Brigitta. However, there is an even greater evil that the current king of Tourin who has plans for Brigitta. Will Rupert be able to complete his revenge? Will Brigitta an Rupert finally trust each other and admit their love? Who is this evil that threatens to destroy everything? Read this novel and find out!!
