Kristen Ashley did it again! With The Farthest Edge she had me captivated from page one.
The Farthest Edge is a full length novel and the second book in the Honey Series. You don´t have to read book one, The Deep End, to understand The Farthest Edge; but I recommend to do so. There are only a few cross-over. Anyway The Farthest Edge can easily be read as a stand alone.
Meet Branch Dillinger and Evangeline Brooks and accompany them through their journey to a well deserved HEA.
This book has everything in it. Drama, hurt, pain, desperation, suffering, great emotions, scorching hot sex scenes and love.
The Farthest Edge is beautifully thought out, beautfully told and beautifully written. I could feel the characters emotions in the words.
Kristen Ashley is my one-click author, ever. I love her books, I love her words and I love her characters.
I Highly recommend The Farthest Edge and wish I could give more than 5 Stars. Thank you so much Kristen Ashley !!!
I loved the first book in the Honey series for it's uniqueness and introduction to something new-the alpha submissive. I ran into The Farthest Edge excited to go back into this world, and while it was pure KA, it missed the mark for me in many ways. I loved the romance, but never bought into Branch being a submissive. Where in The Deep End, Olivier is easily believable as a submissive AND an alpha, all I really got from Branch was the typical KA alpha forced into a submissive role. This disappointed me and took away from the essence of the series.
I did enjoy revisiting the characters from The Deep End.
K.A. absolutely delivers on the dirty, raw, filthy, oh so good sexy sex in The Farthest Edge.
I had no idea what to expect since I hadn't read the first book in the series, and this was my first "erotica" K.A. book. But in true Kristen Ashley fashion, she not only delivers her vintage style, she goes above and beyond in making those pages sizzle in my hot little hands. I need a cold shower stat!
K.A. writing style, if you don't already know, is as unique as her uber alpha heroes. To me, it's classic K.A. and I love it! Branch and Evangeline's story was not what I usually read. I dip my toes every now and then in erotica. I'm just not always in the mood. But this was a Kristen Ashley book...so erotica or not I was there. I was also very curious about the theme. I've read my share of bdsm but I can't say that I gravitate to the Domme and her sub as much as I would prefer to read about a Dom and his sub. With that said, I found this story enthralling. Totally and utterly enthralling, I was swept away, yearning for hea for Branch and Angie. My sweet broken alpha, Branch....I was gutted by his character. I was so wrapped in Branch's story that I completely forgot that Angie was even a domme.
Evangeline has had it rough too. When the unthinkable happens she steps away from the scene, away from the sex club, Honey. Branch comes into her life at that perfect moment, perfect for both of them. I loved getting a glimpse inside her head. In my mind this was totally Branch's story but without Angie's pov it wouldn't have worked at all. I thought her character was beautifully written. What she's able to give Branch, it's everything. Her scenes with him are so emotionally charged and I don't think I've ever been so connected to a sex scene like I was with The Farthest Edge. Her relationship with Branch allows healing and honestly, I've never thought of bdsm being healing.
There were times when I wanted more story. More substance is what I'm used to with K.A. and there were a few times when I felt like a story line, while minor, could have been developed in order to show more of Evangeline's growth in the story. None of that would stop me from reading this delish book over and over again!
* I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book *
RATING: ★★★☆☆/ 3.5 guilty pleasure stars!
REVIEW: If you haven't read my review for the first book in this series, THE DEEP END, then feel free to take a second to get yourself aquainted with the new, kinkier, side to Kristen Ashley's writing by checking that review first...
Now, if you're ready to dive into THE FARTHEST EDGE, let's do this...
I really enjoyed the second installment of the Honey series. It may not seem like it since I only gave it a 3.5 star rating but I think that that was largely to do with the fact that I liked the first book a tad more and therefore I had to make sure the star rating reflected that...if that makes sense. Because this series is supposed to be a slight departure from the normal KA books, the first Honey book was different and surprising and succeeded in pushing my book boundaries in all the best ways. This second installment, while still fitting into the theme of the first book, felt more like it was dialed down a touch and more closely resembled the Kristen Ashley books of old (and I say "old" in a cheeky way, as I'm sure any KA superfan knows). And maybe that's a good thing for those of you who were a bit skeptical...this one might be the book that will draw you in.
I freaking loved the beginning of this book. We get a shady and dark preview into one of the main characters and then quickly segue into the heart of our story. Evangeline is damaged and needs to "get back in the game". She's an incredibly strong character and even though this is a contemporary romance, and therefore two people meet and essentially heal each other and find love, we aren't given the impression that she needed a man to "fix" her. Evangeline finds it within herself to heal and then she gets to save the man she has chosen for her life. ...It's kinda awesome and one of the main reason's why I enjoyed this book.
On the other hand, Evangeline's climactic moment comes pretty early on in the book and then her character sort of stays one-note for the rest of the book. So it's a give and take. Even though THE FARTHEST EDGE has one of the strongest and self-sufficient women as the lead, the book becomes more about Branch and his journey. He ends up with the larger story arc, which wasn't bad, but I just wasn't expecting it to play out that way...and maybe that's just my own fault for having preconceived ideas (maybe Gaston was right, "It's not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting *ideas*, and *thinking*" ...just kidding!).
This is where I think that TFE is more like Ashley's core collection: whereas the first Honey book introduced a whole new venue and set of characters and played out in the semi-public venue of The Honey Club, this book is largely about the romance of two damaged characters in the confines and privacy of a house. Also, the lead male's past, job, and demeanor, also feels more like the alpha-male characters that KA likes to write. It definitely has a classic KA tone to the book and that might be the exact comfort zone that some readers are looking for!
None of that means that this book doesn't have some scorching and boundary pushing moments! The kinkiness is still in high effect and I loved it. I really wasn't sure that I would but once again I was surprised by how much I was drawn into the naughty bits. It was deliciously written. Like the first book, the "typical" male-female dynamic is flipped on it's lid and it makes for some hand-fanning-the-face moments and a much more fun and dynamic story. I won't spoil anything, I'll let you discover it for yourself (wink).
So once again, why the 3.5 star rating on a book that I really did enjoy. I think it mainly had to do with the pacing. While I liked the book, I think the biggest moment between Evangeline and Branch came very early on and then there was a lot of coasting. It was fun coasting, but it was also without a lot of surprises. But even still, I'll probably reread it, because that's just the type of book this is (the rereading for fun type), and I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.
This book was provided to me by Ink-Slinger PR in exchange for an honest review.
Ohhhhh, every time I read a new book by Kristen Ashley I fall more and more in love with her writing style and the stories she creates.
I don't want to spoiler anything, because I think that you need to jump in a KA book head first and follow her lead through the ups and downs of the characters' journey.
But let me tell you what I loved about this book.
First of all, Evangeline and Branch, the main characters, are different from Amelie and Ollie, the protagonists of the previous book. I really liked this, because we get to know another type of relationship that can be built between a Dom (in this case Evangeline) and her Sub (Branch).
I needed a little time to rearrange my ideas because I was expecting something similar to the previous couple, but in the end I was really happy about this change of scenery.
Evangeline and Branch are really a great couple, attracted by each other from the very first time they meet. Their relationship is explosive, magnetic, and I read this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down.
I loved the development of their story, and so Evangeline's wish to heal Branch and bring him to live again. Her strength was outstanding, in many ways, and she is a woman that I got to admire: she is compassionate, understanding, absolutely drama free, the perfect woman to heal Branch.
And Branch, OMG, he is perfect: I don't want to tell much about him, but just that there are so many different aspects of his personality, he's though but sweet <3
And as far as the BDSM part, as always, KA made me like something that is usually not my cup of tea. She gives something to these scenes that glues you to the page and make you lose yourself in the story. And as I said before, I loved how the DOM/Sub relationship was developed between Evie and Branch, a different type of relationship, maybe sweeter, less extreme, but I loved it.
I'm going to try not to regale you with my love affair with Kristen Ashley and her books because that is one thing that is widely known and does not change; let's focus on why The Farthest Edge was so hard to put down. Part of it was what always compels me to read a KA novel--I know I'm going to get a great love story, a mix of sweet and funny dialogue, and strong characters--but in this particular novel, I just loved that she created Evangeline and Branch for each other. I absolutely couldn't imagine two characters who are a better fit. Branch has isolated himself from relationships with people for so long that he needs exactly the type of woman Evangeline is. She's is patient and kind and his match when it comes to his sexual needs, but more than that, she's a fighter. When Evangeline sets her sights on something it's her quiet determination, her steel will, that makes her perfect for Branch. Additionally, she plays dirty to get what she wants...but her dirty is exactly the kind of dirty that works for and with Branch. Her brand of dirty is one of the sweetest, most intuitive brands of dirty I've read and I could kiss her for it. And not to be overlooked is Branch's complete adoration of Evangeline (though he's in denial, he's got it bad for her). The way he looks after her, his lip twitches, his quiet strength are all classic KA alphas but he's also got this huge hurting heart that makes him so endearing.
As with all of my favorite KA novels, the secondary characters are also important and I love that we not only get to see many of the characters we were introduced to in The Deep End but we meet someone important to Branch (and I can't help but hope we'll see more of this person in a future novel). These characters seem extra important in this series because through these characters we see our main characters gain more insight and perspective and it's through those conversations that I feel like we sometimes get even deeper into the hearts and minds of Branch and Evangeline.
I'm really digging the Honey series; it has all the things I love about Kristen Ashley's books and uses the amped up sexual play of her characters as a way to explore intimacy in a way that feels respectful and absolutely right for who they are and what they need.
If I had to use one word to sum up how I felt about The Farthest Edge, words like enthralling, gorgeous, moving, eye-opening, stunning, consuming, phenomenal, remarkable, and magnificent all come to my mind in an instant, but if forced to chose one, I’m going with consuming, because that is what happened to me while reading this book. This book consumed me for the three days I spent reading it, and then for days after when I was left thinking about it. A week later, I’m still struggling to put into words just how spectacular it is.
It’s not a big secret that I wasn’t exactly a fan of The Deep End, the standalone book that precedes this one, and introduces us to the Honey, and also, to an entirely different side to Kristen Ashley. It felt like Ashley struggled to find her voice, and I never connected to the book and its characters. Now, I know that many people felt the same way, and are maybe considering not giving this book a chance. I am telling you, do not hold on to those feelings when choosing to read The Farthest Edge. Ashley’s voice pours off the pages in this book. You felt it in every sentence, every chapter, every moment.
Branch is your quintessential Ashley alpha. He is a bossy, hardcore badass. He also doesn’t exist. He’s a ghost, and as far as the government is concerned, he’s a dead man. He is also a sub who doesn’t make any apologies for what, or who he is. But he does require complete anonymity when choosing a Domme. He expects to get in, get off, and get out. What he doesn’t expect is for Evangeline to rock his world outside of the bedroom.
If you’ve read The Deep End, you know the horror the surrounded Evangeline, and if you haven’t, I’ll let you uncover it, because it is a major part of the story. It helps to connect the two characters in ways you might not expect. Evangeline will go down as one of my favorite KA heroines. For lack of a more eloquent term, she was kick ass. She might have been hesitant at first, but she knew what she had in Branch, and her refusal to give up on him was my favorite part of the story. She was determined to keep him, knowing that he started this “relationship” with a plan to end it. Evangeline had a vision for their future, together, and she was unwavering in her attempts to get him there.
Do I even need to mention this hotness level of this book? I had to walk away a few times because if I thought human combustion was possible, it was going to happen. Read with a fan, a cool drink, and anything else you might have handy.
The Farthest Edge is a gorgeous love story about two people finding each other in the most impossible of circumstances. It’s a story about putting your past scars behind you, and moving forward towards the future you never dared to dream you could have, but always wanted. This book is full of feels. You are going to run through a gamut of emotions, and probably feel like you’ve run a marathon when you are finished. But every heart breaking moment is worth it. It’s all worth it.
I knew ahead of time this book was dark. However, I didn't anticipate it to be boring. To be honest, it took me some time to get into the book in the first place due to family interruptions. When I did, I found it dry as the story was being set up and never did become invested in Branch's story. I'm not sure what could have made it better for me and I had to stop several times before moving forward. with the book.
What upsets me the most is the fact that I wanted to like the book and the story. Although I think a lighter story for Branch and Evangeline would have not been true to their characters. The Honey Series is a good series, just not for me. I keep telling my daughter there are better books out there than Fifty Shades and am making her a list. This series, although okay, will not be on it.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and the Author for an honest review.
Kristen Ashley has done it again. Holy hotness Batman! This book literally melted my panties. While I enjoyed The Deep End, book one, I absolutely loved this one. There are a lot of feels in this book that caught me off guard. I’ve ended up in tears with many of Ashley’s books; I just didn’t expect to end up in tears with this one. I thought, hey it’s erotica it’ll just get me all hot and bothered. Nope this book made me feel and feel hard.
If you’ve read The Deep End, you’ve heard about Evangeline. She got the raw end of the deal in a scene that went bad. Since then she’s been guarded, checked out of the life, and she while she wants to reconnect with friends—the life isn’t something she’s expecting to return to. Her friend and club owner Aryas, though, he knows just how to tempt her. Branch is enigmatic, extremely private, and an alpha to the core. He’s brooding, assertive, and unapologetic. She’s sweet, determined, and ready to fight for him. The chemistry between these two is so fucking hot. Both Branch and Evangeline are extremely well-written, well-developed, and complex.
This book has its drama but it’s so skillfully woven into the story that it’s not glaring or over-the-stop. While I know that The Deep End has set her fan on opposite sides of the series, I think this is one that all fans can really enjoy. Since most of the info dump about the club and how it works took place in book one, The Farthest Edge is almost purely about the relationship between Branch and Evangeline. And besides the fact that Branch likes to submit, it is very much like her other stories.
If you haven’t given this series a try, I highly recommend it especially this book. If you’re an Ashley fan, definitely one-click it.
The Honey series is unlike any other KA series. There are strong women and men and that's where the similarities end. This series is a delve into the BDSM world and it is deep. I say this in the review because I know there are fans of KA who will read these books and rate them lower stars because it wasn't what they were expecting. So if you aren't into strong, dominant women heavily into the BDSM lifestyle, skip this series. It is a really well-written story that isn't for the faint of heart. So don't purchase and review low because it isn't KA's traditional genre.
Evangeline has gotten out of the lifestyle after previous events (they're in Honey so read that). And you can't blame her. But she is intrigued by this mysterious submissive Branch and wants to get back into the lifestyle to dominate Branch.
Branch is just trying to escape his life by any means necessary to forget what's happened. He meets Evangeline who totally turns his world upside.
As I said before, a great, well-written story that goes into the world of BDSM but lends a sensuality to it as well.
The Farthest Edge is the second standalone in the erotic BDSM series, The Honey Series by Kristen Ashley. Though it is a new couple and can stand on it’s own, I think it is a MUCH richer story if you read The Deep End first. The thing is though, I had some difficulties connecting withThe Deep End, and I did not have that problem AT ALL in The Farthest Edge. And though I thought it was the third person that gave me problems, The Farthest Edge was third person and I never even noticed.
We met Evangeline and Branch in The Deep End after a very traumatic experience for her, and it caused her to step away from the club and her nature for a while. But Aryas, owner of The Honey wants to bring her back to life.
“Got a sub for you.”
She blinked and her stomach pitched.
“Sorry?” she queried
“Perfect for you. No strings. No boundaries. This guy is not looking to connect. He’s not looking for a relationship. Hell, sheer number of Dommes he goes through, you might get one crack at him before he vanishes from your life. But at least you’ll get off the way you like it that one time. And if you can keep him around a while, you might have some fun, break yourself back in, give yourself what you need, without any baggage.”
Um.
Whoa.
That all sounded way too good to be true.
But still.
“I’m not… I don’t think…” She swallowed. “I’m not ready for that, and to be honest, Ary, I’m not sure I’ll ever go back there.”
Branch doesn’t exist. He lives completely off the grid and before even meeting Evangeline she has to sign an NDA. After a rough start, Evangeline decides she wants Branch, even for just one night, after all, Branch has NO LIMITS.
“No reflection on you and your skills, which are sublime, my beautiful baby.” He grinned a wicked grin. “Just that this guy is unbreakable. There’s no edge for him any Domme can get anywhere near to push him off and that’s what he’s looking for. Being taken to the farthest edge and shoved right the fuck over.”
Taken to the farthest edge.
Once they had each other once, they both realized that they wanted more, but Branch makes it perfectly clear that it will end. Evangeline though, is in it to win it. She will accept it if he has to go, but she will do anything possible to make him stay.
“I know what it’s going to be, Branch, but you need to know I’m not going to stop trying to break through.”
He nodded. “I get that. I’ll take it. Because I’m not the motherfucker I could be, but I am the one I am. But just to say, baby, you fight that battle, you’ll lose.”
“I’m stubborn.”
It almost looked like he was going to smile.
“Think I got that.”
She continued staring into his eyes and promised, “I’m going to make you happy.”
“I know.” …
“I’m still going to walk away,” he told her gently, confirming her thoughts.
There is a lot of dirty, kinky sex in The Farthest Edge, but it never outweighed the story. I realized that I don’t really get turned on by female dominant sex, but when this badass takes over, all bets are off! Can you say hot and sexy alpha?
“He’s the badass motherfucker the baddest badass motherfucker wished he was,” G whispered.
Likes:
Pure KA Alpha deliciousness despite that he’s a sub in bed (usually).
I loved Evangeline, I never had trouble connecting with her, and wanted her to win!
Branch was still a super-hot KA alpha despite his bedroom proclivities.
Though Female Dominant sex doesn’t really turn me on, there were some super hot scenes, and they weren’t animal themed as they were in the first book.
I really enjoyed visiting with Amelie and Olly, as well as a few other side characters.
It was a great mix of sex and story, but remember, this is an erotic novel, so there is still a LOT of sex.
Oh how I loved Cam! I am hoping we get a book about him!
Dislikes:
I prefer 1st person but honestly, I barely noticed that this was 3rd person.
As hot as the scenes were, I am just not really into male sub sex.
The Down & Dirty:
After not totally connecting to The Deep End (though I still liked it a lot), I was a little concerned about The Farthest Edge, but I didn’t need to be, it was classic KA with some kinky sex thrown in. I totally loved Evangeline and Branch and how they treated each other. I really enjoyed the secondary characters in this one, including visiting with Olly and Amelie. I totally recommend The Farthest Edge, even if you weren’t in love with The Deep End.
Rating: 4.5-4.75 Stars, 5+ Heat
Did not review. Love a kristen Ashley's books but this one didn't work for me so I posted as a promo/ excerpt only on the blog and social media.
Sometimes you need to travel outside of your comfort zone with a bold book. An adrenaline rush of a read, The Farthest Edge by Kristen Ashley hurls you over the edge. You'll dangle off the cliff of desire, dabbling in a thrilling and tantalizing world. Evocative and erotic yet tender and touching, The Farthest Edge burns the body and hijacks the heart.
The Farthest Edge starts with a slow burn but then SMOLDERS with sizzle and suspense! The INTRIGUE and INTENSITY made my heart beat out of my chest. The fusion of heat and heart MELTED me everywhere. Smooth and sinfully sweet like honey, this story stuck to me where I became UNGLUED.
Kristen Ashley takes readers on another tantalizing trip to The Honey Club in The Farthest Edge where deepest desires come true, including MINE and YOURS. The Queen Bees rule at The Honey Club where women take control as beautiful dominants with male submissives. This book focuses on one fire-hot couple: Evangeline and Branch. In the outside world, Branch is all alpha. Inside The Honey Club, he bows to the beautiful Mistress Evangeline.
He liked to be pushed to the edge? She was going to take him there. Shove him right over. And go over with him. And when they landed, they were going to explode. All over the place. And love every bit of it.
The push and pull of this story made me HOT and HEEDY, my head and heart thoroughly SEDUCED. Branch and Evangelines' push for power and pull of passion FLAMED with FEELS. I felt their angst bleed through me along with their desire.
Fire meets ice when Evangeline and Branch collide, a fusion of power and passion that ignite to a BEAUTIFUL BURN. Branch is a brooding and beautiful alpha who needs to be tamed. Evangeline is a stunning beauty who needs to control. Branch needs to be deliciously dominated to forget. Evangeline needs to dominate to remember.
"I need you to sway my world right about now."
"Okay, baby," she whispered, "I'll sway your world."
I was a voyeur in Kristen Ashley's delicious dominant and submissive world, one where I wanted to be a player too. This series is the best mix of DECADENCE and DESIRE. A delicious drug, The Farthest Edge is the ULTIMATE ADDICTION. The Farthest Edge pulls you out of your comfort zone, hurling you over the edge straight to ECTASY! You just can't help but SUBMIT to this story.
"Ready to slip over the edge with me, baby?"
💋💋💋💋💋 4.5 Edgy and Enticing Kisses
The Farthest Edge is the second novel in Kristen Ashley’s new different Honey series. While you don’t need to read the first novel The Deep End before reading this one, I would recommend it. This series is about female Doms and Alpha-subs and all things BDSM with a mix of Kristen Ashley’s typical awesomeness. Evangeline is a Dom who after a traumatic scene takes a leave of absent from the club. Branch is a Alpha-sub who is a private mystery with a specific set of skills and a special sexual preference. Evangeline’s friends worry about her and to get her back into the game give her the challenge of Branch. After Branch turns her down, it’s game one. Evangeline knows what she likes and will stop at nothing to get her man. The Farthest Edge is an attention grabbing novel with a whole lot of steaminess. It’s gritty, raw, real, and at time terrifying. From the very first page my attention was captured and I couldn’t put it down until I was finished. I would easily give this novel 5 stars.
Starting a new KA book is always a treat. Whether it's paranormal, contemporary or her latest BDSM I am always filled with excited anticipation. The Farthest Edge took my excitement and turned it way up with each page read. I loved this story and I loved the characters. The depth of emotions, the sizzling chemistry and the desire to know more about Branch and Evangeline completely engrossed me.
We first learned about Evangeline in The Deep End after she endured a devastating situation. Now in The Farthest Edge, she is moving away from her past and back to her old self, and while she has help from her friends she also isn't afraid to go after what she wants on her own. That personality trait is what I loved most about Evangeline - her strength and determination was inspiring. I also find Domme's really intriguing and Evangeline is a Domme after my own heart - sweet, lovely and almost normal in everyday life but when in a scene she becomes a fully capable badass. I loved that she could be both soft and hard when the situation called or it.
In my review for the previous book in this series, The Deep End, I spoke about not truly getting the concept of an alpha-sub but with Branch I totally got it. He is your quintessential KA alpha - strong, demanding and a fierce protector but with the bonus that he loves to be on the receiving end of some very hot kink. Like Evangeline, his past is filled with pain and betrayal but also with a bit of mystery. He tries to keep his heart closed off and emotions in check but as usual KA has her characters fighting hard to bring down all those walls.
The beautiful relationship between Branch and Evangeline was worth each word read and each page turned. The struggles, the heartache, the amazing sex and the feels were all so amazing to read. Kristen Ashley's move into the BDSM genre has been a pleasure reading. Each book in the Honey series takes classic KA themes and styles and turns them up a notch with intense intimacy. I firmly believe there is nothing that KA can't write.
4.5 Stars
The Farthest Edge, was my first time reading Kristen Ashley, and although this title is actually the second in the Honey series, it can easily be read as a standalone.
The Farthest Edge, although a BDSM book, has a strong focus on the relationship, chemistry and connection between the elusive Branch and Evangeline. This pair of characters are endearing, dynamic, and incredibly complex.
Evangeline is a warm, caring, compassionate character, with incredible resilience, independence, strength. Whilst Branch is quite her opposite a bad-ass, brooding, complicated alpha he is incredibly self assured, assertive, demanding, bossy and dangerous. At first I found it difficult to resolve this strong minded alpha being the submissive in the relationship.
Evangeline has lost confidence and trust in the BDSM lifestyle, after becoming a victim at the hands of her sub. She is hesitant to begin a relationship with Branch, and what starts as a relationship of convenience to gain mutual pleasure becomes so much more.
Although this is a BDSM romance, there is so much more below the surface of this story line, its a story of two broken and damaged individuals, who find comfort, solace and healing within each others arms. Whilst their story is sensual, passionate and provocative, their chemistry is intense, and the love scenes are full of heat. The Farthest Edge is incredibly well written, a captivating and heartfelt story that is incredibly raw, gritty, and full of emotion.
Now I have to decide where to begin with Ms Ashley's previous works, whilst I await the next title in the honey series.
5 Stars!
I knew Kristen Ashley was special the first time I ever read her words. Sexy. Sweet. The BEST alpha males. Ashley never disappoints whether she's writing bikers to everyday men to rich men. She is just a queen in romance and I'm not afraid to admit that... life-long fan here!
Well lo and behold... she is blasting into the erotic romance world, making her name known loud, and taking it by the reins... stepping out of her comfort zone and giving readers an out of the world experience.
The Honey series is like NOTHING I have ever read and everything I never knew I needed. Alpha male submissives paired with strong female dominant... can you handle the heat?
You know you want a taste... these guys like to give up control in the bedroom but outside... they are the kind we crave when we read romance novels.
The Farthest Edge is the second standalone in this series and definitely a step above book one, The Deep End (which I loved hard.) This book was so addicting... intense, jagged, broken, mesmerizing, beautiful, passionate, and completely captivating in all the right ways.
She's broken... trying to heal. He's jaded... cold and closed off.
Evangeline and Branch were brilliantly penned... hooking me from cover to cover and giving me all the feels on each and every page. Every moment of their journey was beautifully broken and so sensual... holy smokes the sizzling sparks and undeniable chemistry was HOT.
I got lost between the pages of this story the moment it landed on my kindle and I regret not one moment of it... it was just that amazing.
If you want different, erotic, emotional, addicting, and intense... then the Honey series might just be for you.
I highly recommend this book.
Title: The Farthest Edge
Author: Kristen Ashley
4 unexpected stars
I was captivated by the hype of Kristen Ashley's first instalment of the
Honey Series and was more than curious to know what this author was like, so I picked up The Farthest Edge hoping to get caught up in the latest series that is picking up readers by storm. I haven't read the first book and wasn't too certain on what happened either, so maybe that had an impact on my enjoyment of The Farthest Edge. I found it difficult to really get immersed in the story, maybe the fact that there was so many parts added in parentheses that didn't seem necessary and was necessary and present in every single page I read. Or maybe because there was information that I didn't quite understand because I hadn't read the first book. Either way, there was just something about the story that I can't quite pinpoint, that made a somewhat negative impact on how I perceived and enjoyed this book.
4 breath taking dreams
That being said, there was some elements that did captivate me. Evangeline's need and desire to own Branch after his rebuttal was something of a surprise. I would have pegged this man as a Dom considering his demeanour and career choice - but boy did Kristen Ashley prove me so very wrong. I enjoyed watching these two push each other's limits further than they could have ever imagined. It's the type of story that lets you look at things differently but as I mentioned before, there was just something that got to me in ways I can't explain. The idea (the premise) behind the novel is a good one, but maybe there was just a little something missing to make it that ,inch more spectacular.

Part 2 of an ongoing series but can be read as a standalone
My The Farthest Edge Review . . .
As per usual, another great KA read. I do admit that it does take me awhile to get on board with the alpha submissive role, as this is all new to me in my BDSM reading, but if anyone can pull it off it's KA. This is technically book two of a series but could be read as a standalone but I do strongly recommend reading it as a whole because The Deep End (book #1), helps set the tone and gives more information on the alpha submissive role.
We got to meet Branch Dillinger in The Deep End when he helped out Olivier, and the two of them became friends. In The Deep End we got to hear about Evangeline Brooks but not officially meet her until this book.
~ What she expected to do was use him to heal her last wounds.
And do it healing his.
All this so they could both move on, perhaps not whole, because she'd only had a chunk taken out of her, but she knew in that one meeting with him that he'd had great masses torn away from him. ~
Both of these two are a different kind of broken. Branch knows what he needs but doesn't think he deserves any happiness. Evangeline has survived something terrible and is fixing herself one day at a time. When Evangeline first meets Branch, she knows what she wants and needs, but knows it will be a tough game to win her prize.
"I'm yours, Evangeline. I'm okay any way you want me to be."
Branch first tries to walk away but when Evangeline shows him all she can be, he's easy to give in. But not completely. However, he truly does know what he wants.
~He like his ass fucked solely if a woman was behind his cock.
Hell, it could even be he liked his ass fucked because there'd always be a woman behind the cock.~
Branch may think he's alone in this world but he's not and he doesn't even know what true gems he has, especially with his friend and sounding board, Gerbil.
"That might be the straight-up honest truth, brother, but the true death is the death of hope and you die that death still living, you might as well just be dead."
Again, the alpha-submissive is relatively new for me and really the only author I have read of this type of role is from KA. First in Deacon, then in The Deep End, and now here.
~Right, there was something she hadn't yet quite understood about Branch that had been staring her in the face, heck, slapping her across the face since the first second she'd laid eyes on him.
He was a submissive.
But he was an alpha-submissive.~
The chemistry between Branch and Evangeline is smoking and a bit naughty.
"My big boy likes dirty talk," she murmured. "Your big boy likes everything you do to him."
The more Branch and Evangeline play their game the more Branch becomes a huge part of her life, helping to guide her to her happiness just as she's doing for him.
" . . . You dig what you do but nothing in life is perfect all the time. Decide how much shit you're willing to put up with when it gets shoveled your way and cut it off when it goes over that line. That's a good way to protect your downtime because, even if you dig what you do, too much of it is never a good thing. And straight up, honey, if you protect your downtime, you'll have a lot more patience when an asshole crosses your path and shovels shit your way. "
Branch is lovely but very stubborn. And he's having a hard time completely giving all to Evangeline. But his brokenness runs way deeper than most humans have to go through.
"If I could give it, one woman on this earth I'd give it to you, it'd be you, Evangeline."
Oh! These men! How I love them so. The honesty of who they are is beautiful to read, and its always great to see the friendship of Olivier and Branch and how they help balance each other out.
"Damian showed last night." he stated. Ol's voice went low. "Yeah, I heard I was tied up, literally, or I would have intervened."
Evangeline is the perfect balance for Branch and his friends.
"Well, fuckin' fuck me, uh . . . pardon my language, darlin'."
"Branch doesn't apologize for having a flair with the f-word so don't worry about it."
To truly set Branch free, Evangeline has to dig deep to keep him.
"Please, Evangeline, don't give up on him. He's the finest man I know. He's the finest man you'll ever know. He's earned his peace. This house. That pool. A pretty girl like you walkin' in the door. He'll try to push you away. All I'm askin' is, don't let him, and I can promise, you get through, he'll make it worth it."
"Your woman gets dead then every member of your team, your team, darlin', under your command on your watch gets dead, my take, you get a wee bit overprotective."
When Branch finally gives in, he does it effortlessly and beautifully.
"Branch, honey, it means a lot to me that you're giving me this. But I see now I shouldn't have asked for it. So I think to make it easier on you, that you should just -"
He cut her off. "Make it easy on me."
"Yes, so you can-"
"You make everything easy, Angie."
She looked out through the jungle of plants around her kitchen window at her pool, which was a gorgeous pool in a normal home where a woman fell in love with an amazing man.
She would never guess that was what the farthest edge looked like.
KA has such a gift at writing beautiful, strong Alpha males, submissive or not. I loved the story of Branch and Evangeline and I'm so excited for this series because there are so many more beautiful characters to explore. The evolution of Branch was a thing of beauty. And Evangeline and Branch couldn't be more perfect for each other.
"Me inside you," she whispered. "You inside me."
4 . 5 Broken no more thumbs up!
