The Farthest Edge
5 Stars
Explosive best describes this second standalone in the Honey Series. Every facet of Branch and Evangeline’s journey in The Farthest Edge ignited, from their fiery sexual chemistry to their erotic playtime, and I felt as if my heart was going to explode all over the place. My emotions became so entwined within the pages of their love story it consumed me. All their joys, heartbreaking sorrows and passion had me reeling, tumbling over the edge right along side them.
“Ready to slip over the edge with me, baby?”
Hellz yeah, I was ready. Intrigued by these two characters when first introduced in The Deep End, I was more than willing to jump into this novel. It’s erotica at its very best; brimming with scene after salacious scene of heart thumping, body clenching kinkery. Loved every minute of their sexy time. However, there’s so much more substance to this read than the BDSM element and sizzling hot sex. It has all the old school vintage KA romance feels laced throughout its gripping plot, lifting this story to an entirely different level.
“He breathed, he did not exist.”
Branch Dillinger is a ghost of a man haunted by demons and focused on revenge. My heart ached seeing all of his pain. Buried under a tremendous amount of guilt, he’s stone cold and detached. No commitments. No emotional ties. Just looking for a quick release with a temporary club Domme and then moving on. Everything changes when Evangeline Brooks (Angie) falls into his life, turning his world upside down. This feisty woman is determined to break through his glacial demeanor in hopes of soothing his ravaged soul.
“She’s the world I always wanted the world to be,”
Evangeline is such a lovable heroine ~ a spirited, down to earth girly girl who’s sassy yet sweet. She’s also broken, barely surviving the horrors from her previous D/s relationship. It is her temporary ‘no strings attached’ arrangement with Branch that eventually brings her back to life. Under Branch’s care, she blossoms and finds herself again.
What I adored most about Angie was her persistent faith in their connection and her extraordinary strength. Despite the pains of her past, Angie trustingly gives all of herself to Branch. She understands his desires as her sub, as well as his needs as her man, and guides their relationship with care. She becomes strong enough to fight for their relationship. And the love she has for Branch is powerful enough to push him to the edge, giving him reason to stay and to finally exist.
“But if you need more, baby, I’m here to give you what you need,” she murmured. “I get the score. Don’t you worry. But don’t you underestimate me either. Because I get what I want and if I want you, in the end, you’re going to give yourself to me. And it’s not just that. It’s also that if you want me, and you’re right here, you’re back, you said it yourself, you couldn’t stay away, so I know you want me, and that means I’m going to give myself to you too.”
I can’t begin to explain my love for this ex-military badass. I dislike comparing heroes since each is unique, but I saw hints of past loves within his personality namely Deacon, Raid and (strangely enough) Sam Cooper. It was so easy to fall for Branch as he embodied everything I love when it comes to a KA hero. The fact that he sexually submits to Angie does not, in any way, minimize his Alpha male tendencies. He’s dominating, gritty, has an outrageous carnal appetite and extremely protective as well possessive. I loved his gentle side, tending to Angie’s needs knowing her traumatic past, gaining her trust and heart. But what truly drew me in, aside from all his sexiness, was his agony.
“He was a dead man with a mission and so much baggage, she’d get crushed under it if she knew.”
Branch’s heartache affected me in an unforgettable way. There’s one particular scene towards the end where Branch unleashes all his sorrows that totally annihilated me. I was a total wreck and honestly, it’s one of the most achingly beautiful, tearful moments ever scripted. I love when characters, especially from this author, are so completely shattered their healing seems impossible. I want to feel their pain because I know for certain Ashley’s words and her couples will guide me through the gloominess to a place filled with love and beauty. KA has a magical way of bringing me joy through her writing. And when the road is paved with intense sorrow, as it is in this read, I appreciate the overwhelming feeling of bliss so much more. Both Angie and Branch suffered great betrayals in their past and it was beautiful seeing how their love healed. The way they comfort one another, establish trust and fall in love truly made this a touching story.
An enticing BDSM romance bursting with beauty, passion and raw emotions, The Farthest Edge is pure KA gold. If you’re hesitant because this book may seem vastly different from Ashley’s norm, don’t be. Everything I needed to lose myself within a great story was here, just with a heavy dose of kink. The familiar world building descriptive writing style, a captivating plot, dynamic characters, strong Alpha hero, powerful and breathtaking moments – I was in heaven, happily lost in Branch and Angie’s journey. Another stunning novel from The Queen. I’m not sure what other bees will be buzzing in the future at The Honey, but I do hope to see more from Aryas and Gerbil.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, St. Martin's Press.
I I haven’t read a book this erotic in months. Jumping into this was like diving into a cold pool. Refreshing and it DEFINITELY wakes you up. With this novel I got too of my favorite things, Kristen’s writing, and deep sensual scenes that literally leave you panting. I was Obsessed with where this book would go and what would come of Branch and Ang.
Give mea man like this anyday. A man who is strong, sure of what he wants, and living to keep those around his safe. A man who looks at his woman and knows that even if he can’t keep her, he is going to be sure she loves every minute they have together.
This was a book about healing. About finding that broken part of yourself and accepting the fact that someone cares enough to shine alight there and fix it. I could read this book all over align and still not be bored with it.
Kristen weaves a sensual story that you wont be able to put down. All the fun from the first novel, with twice the emotion. I can’t wait to see where the next novel goes, because if it goes where I think it might it is going to be a wild ride.
Kristen Ashley is one of those authors who makes me want to flee away on a deserted island finding the time to read her books. I love her stories, her protagonists, her writing style it's definitely my cup of tea, but she wrote so many novels, I didn't read and there's so little time to do it.
"The Farthest Edge" is the second book of the Honey series, but can also be read as a standalone story. The thread that keeps together the novels is the setting in an exclusive BDSM club and the group of Doms and subs that attend it, becoming with time the protagonists of the stories.
I like to read this kind of books, but I have to admit I have a soft spot for male Doms in these stories, but I also have to say I never read about an "alpha-sub" like Branch, I loved him.
Branch's past has left deep wounds in him, transforming him into a detached man, who seems to wear armor no one has been able to overcome. He tried to silence his demons by dealing with them through extreme situations, looking for something nobody seems to be able to give him, as long as Evangeline enters his life.
Evangeline is a Domme who attended the Honey club, but she decided to take a break from the life-style of the club, after a scene with her sub com gone very bad.
Aryas, in turn, Dom and owner of the club, is able to push Branch and Evangeline toward each other, launching a challenge she can't refuse: no one has ever gone beyond Branch barriers.
He isn't the classic sub and the way for Evangeline to fo after him is tough, but it was spectacular how she put her clami on him. She is a strong woman and has conquered me for her stubbornness. Despite her past, she is not afraid to play with Branch and care for him, knowing their relationship is doomed because of all Branch's past and no certainty for their future. The only way she can earn Branch's trust, overcome his armor, and win his submission is giving him everything he craves, become indispensable to Branch as the air he breathes and pushing him to want to go back to her searching for more and more.
Together they find their balance and they are amazing together to read, and it's real BDSM between them, with intense and extreme scenes, very hot scenes.
Branch's past is always lurking on them, his secrets are a limit in their relationship and a constant danger, but despite all of this, the thing I liked in him the most is his brutal honesty towards Evangeline and his instinct ti protect her.
His priority is always and only Evangeline, her security and he doesn't want to hurt her.
I absolutely adored when he goes totally "alpha" on her.
I liked also the other characters in the story, the Honey club is a real group of friends who have been able to give Evangeline the space and time she needed to think, then be present at her side and making her feel their warmth and support. Among all, my favorites are Olly, Amèlie, Aryas and Stellan.
Without realizing it, however, Branch has also become part of this family over the time, potential allies in the time of need.
I recommend this book to those who love the BDSM genre, I started the series from this book, but I'm going to read also "The Deep End" and I hope the stories of others will soon be published. Could I cheer on Stellan?
The Farthest Edge is the second book in author Kristen Ashley’s The Honey Series and while I really enjoyed the first book, I gotta say I LOVED this book. From start to finish, Evangeline and Branch pulled me in and they held me close for the entire sexy and beautiful ride. I just adored these two.
What do you get when you take a Domme trying to overcome one helluva obstacle after going through a helluva traumatic event at the one place being safe is held in the highest regard and put her together with a broken man of a Sub convinced he can never reach the sublime connection the right Domme can bring? And what do you get when those two are written by Kristen Ashley? I’ll tell you….you get pure magic.
Branch is literally a dead man walking. He’s a ghost, a man dead to everyone he’s ever known, living in the shadows. He’s done and seen things that a lesser man would never be able to handle. But he owns his life and he knows who he is and what he needs. He’s not shy about it and I love that about him. He also has some of the biggest walls built up around him that I’ve ever seen, and rightfully so. He’s in search of something, someone, to give him what he needs.
Enter Evangeline.
Evangeline, the beautiful and strong Domme looking to overcome an event that haunts her to this day. She’s taken a brief hiatus from the lifestyle she loves so much and is toying with the idea of going back when the opportunity to claim Branch presents himself. It’s exactly what she needed. He’s exactly what she needed.
Together Branch and Evangeline are spectacular. They complete one another in the most perfect of ways, both giving when the other is in need and both taking when it’s given. It’s a beautiful dance of learning each other in the most important of ways with trust, knowledge, kindness, and love. Not only was the heat off the charts, but the emotion between these two is just beautiful. Branch learning to navigate feelings he doesn’t want to have and Evangeline learning how to love a man like Branch….*dreamy sigh*. Man, I just can’t get enough of them!
Kristen Ashley has once again outdone herself. I know these characters will be staying with me for a long time. Thank you, Ms. Ashley, for another phenomenal read.
Step into the Honey Club, where every sensual boundary will be tested in search of the ultimate pleasure…
Branch doesn’t exist. Living off the grid, he’s looking for a way to forget his past and the guilt that plagues him. But no woman has ever been able to bring him to the edge he craves.
After a traumatic experience of her own, Evangeline stepped away from the decadent world of the Honey Club. But when she gets Branch’s offer—to play without boundaries or commitments—it’s too tempting for her to refuse.
As their passion ignites, Evangeline and Branch push each other to their farthest limit, fulfilling their darkest desires while falling harder and deeper than they ever imagined.
Okay, a little about me...I'm not into erotica - so the fact that I made it through this book is like me making it through the Sahara without water. I'm just throwing that out there. This book was a lot for me to take in, especially in one sitting. It took me, possibly about 3 weeks to read this book and that's saying a bunch. I love Kristen Ashley...like I could totally sit outside her house and wait for her autograph!! So, for me to not love her book...well it's a little disappointing. But, here's the thing - It's a really well-written book and for those that like this kind of book....they are going to love it. However, I just didn't love it. Did I like it? Yeah, to some extent...I liked the characters and I found them to be believable and well-rounded. I also found the plot to...well have a plot. That's important. If you're going to have a book like this, then have the plot to go with it because you're gonna need it! She did that in spades and I appreciated that as a reader. Will I read the next one? Probably! Because it's Kristen and I read all her books and that's what her fans do. So, this book although not my taste in the sex department (there was a lot in there I just did NOT need to know y'all!!) I will probably pick up the next. If you love her writing, then so will you.
I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on NetGalley for an honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.
The Farthest Edge will take you there, and you'll enjoy every minute of it!
My first taste of 'Honey' in The Deep End was an eye opener. I had never read about an alpha-submissive before and if I wasn't so busy giggling, gasping, and guessing what was gonna happen next I might have taken notes. Instead I just paid very close attention to detail, and I might have had to read some scenes a few extra times, just to make sure I didn't miss anything. (wink-wink).
I was already intrigued by Evangeline, having read just enough about the traumatic event that was keeping her away from Honey to have me curious for more details. I was excited to get to know her and to meet the man that would convince her to step out of her comfort zone and revisit the lifestyle she had given up. I already knew that Kristen Ashley was a master at writing about alpha males, but now I can add alpha-subs to that resume. It was very interesting to learn that a man could still be strong and in control, even when he was giving control to a woman. I found it to be more of a mental submission, making choices on purpose, not giving in to something that he didn't want to happen. All he wanted was to be taken to the farthest edge, but what he got was more than he bargained for.
Evangaline was coming back to the living. The numbness was wearing off and she knew she needed to reach out to her friends who had been so worried about her. She wasn't ready to go back to Honey, but nothing was stopping her from having lunch and going to the book club, right? She was determined to give up the lifestyle. It was too dangerous. Not worth the risk to her safety and her sanity. She hadn't even been tempted... until she saw him. He pushed all her buttons and woke up the sleeping Domme. She saw more than he wanted her to. And she was determined to be the one to take him to the edge. Even if he was determined that she wouldn't.
Did I mention that he had a BIG secret? And it's a doozy! Not only is this amazing book full of sweetness and surrender, it's full of secrets and suspense. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, I wanted to know why, what, when, where and with whom it was going to happen. I wanted the big man to fall and the little woman to leap. They both had so much going on in their heads, but when they were together, all they saw was each other. Would they keep hiding, or give in to their passion and the possibility of more?
I'm not telling you the answer, you need to find out for yourselves. But I can tell you this, I WANT MORE! More sexy alpha-subs, more Honey, and more Kristen Ashley. The line forms here...
Just give me a few minutes to get over my swoon for Branch and Evangeline’s romance in The Farthest Edge. It is beautiful, sexy, a pleasure to read and experience. Both of them are a bit broken. Both are trying to find their way in the world again.
For Branch, finding his way means putting the past behind him. To move on from his survivors’ guilt and to embrace life again. Sure he’s living his life, but he doesn’t truly feel alive until he meets Evangeline.
Evangeline has been living her life away from the Honey Club. Who can blame her after the trauma she experienced both mentally and physically there in what should have been her sanctuary. But it’s time for her to join society again—time to re-engage her Domme tendencies. And Branch is just the perfect specimen to bring them out.
I truly enjoyed this slow burning, sexy as hell romance between Branch and Evangeline. The two of them together burned up my kindle. I adored their interactions—loved witnessing them fall in love. Low angst, low key, smoldering love. It was just what I needed to read and fall even harder for the amazing characters in this series. I’m hoping Gerbil is next in line for a story!
After having read book 1 in this series (The Deep End) and found it a little wanting, I was really looking forward to reading this, knowing that this series had a lot more to offer, and hoping it did just that with this next book.
I was not disappointed - this book was fabulous!!! Whereas book 1 was all about the Club and an awful lot of BDSM descriptions and explanations about the lifestyle, this is concentrated on the couple and their relationship. In book 1 Oliver and Amèlie loved to get in on and show off in front of others for their viewing pleasure, book 2 is all about Branch and Evangeline and is the complete opposite, their privacy is paramount.
Evangeline is a Domme at the Club, but had a really bad experience where her sub and partner turned violent and attacked her. She has been out of the scene for a while, learning to get over the attack and to get on with her life, not sure if she can return to that lifestyle, but then not sure if she can live without it either.
Branch is a badass!!! He's a ghost in every sense of the word, with specialist skills used to his advantage. What he's not seen and done isn't worth knowing!! He's seen and done things that he thinks makes him a very bad person. He has no ties or commitments to anyone, and with what he has experienced he has certain sexual needs.
Club owner Aryas uses Branch every now and then, and knowing both Evangeline and Branch, tries to set them up together.
This book was such a hot read!!! Phew!!! But not only the sex and and scenes, but the ensuing relationship between them. I loved Branch and his unapologetic domineering Alpha ways, yet how he was with Evangeline as her Sub was just outstanding, and how his behavior changed was just so sweet.
Brilliantly written, it grabbed my attention from page 1. I loved the characters, they complimented each other perfectly. It was also quite an emotional read at times as we learn about the characters' pasts and what they've been through. A fabulous 4.5 stars, and highly recommended reading!!
A war isn’t won in a day; in fact, when war is waged, there are ups and downs, starts and stops, and forward and backward movements.
Fighting a war when the enemy is a fucked up mindset with extreme amounts of baggage and self-loathing may not allow even a whole arsenal of weapons to obtain a victory, but that doesn’t mean the white flag needs to be raised…it just means different maneuvers have to be executed and implemented in a way that breaks down the impenetrable barriers and has the ability to offer counter moves when the enemy retreats, withdraws, and even leaves the battlefield.
If there’s one characteristic that Evangeline Brooks seems to have in spades, it’s the fact that she’s a fighter. As a Domme, she understands the type of control and strength that’s needed to wield a whip or a crop, and she also knows how to read situations and proceed with the required actions. And, even though the aftermath of the incident with her ex-sub, Kevin, redefined her life in a number of ways for the past year or so, the fact that she re-enters the lifestyle with a sub as challenging as Branch Dillinger seems to be from their very first encounter, unequivocally proves the type of kickass Domme Evangeline is as well as the fact that there is no way in hell she’ll allow Branch to completely evade her attempts at claiming something other than his cock, his ass, and his body without putting up one heck of a fight.
From the start of their play, Branch’s guard is up, which isn’t anything new since it’s been that way ever since his life went to shit and he became nothing more than a dead man living in the shadows. He’s upfront with Evangeline about what they will have and what they will not and he’s honest about the fact that he will walk away from what they share simply because he can’t be someone he’s not nor will he allow himself to be something more than he already is. Branch refuses to take the steps to heal himself because he believes he’s the problem…that his sins are too great and that allowing himself to actually have a life dishonors those who gave up theirs…those who no longer have what they should have had because it was taken away too easily.
If you’re an avid Kristen Ashley reader, you know that she creates diverse and multifaceted characters…those who have an array of attributes that both help and hinder the events that take place in their storyline. Evangeline and Branch are complex characters whose layers are slowly revealed throughout the course of The Farthest Edge. And, even though Evangeline is a what you see is what you get woman, the way she approaches life and understands what’s at stake when she starts things up with Branch makes her a highly dynamic character – one who adjusts to change with ease and who works around issues in order to acquire the outcomes she desires.
I don’t think readers truly get to the depth of Branch even at the end of their story, and I think that’s deliberate on Ashley’s part because if he’s not going to give Evangeline everything about his past then readers don’t deserve it either. But it does help that other characters play a role in unveiling the truth of Branch’s past and what it has cost him, and the advice that’s offered to Evangeline through those different avenues allows her to approach her battle with Branch in ways that he won’t see coming and ways that will make him heal even when he wouldn’t choose to do so on his own.
Evangeline and Branch’s relationship is a work-in-progress throughout the course of The Farthest Edge and as she brings him to that edge, preparing to take him over and provide a soft landing not for just his body but for his heart and soul as well, she does so knowing she may lose not only what they have but what she’s always hoped she’d get. But the victory will be worth the pain it takes to get there as long as when everything is said and done her big boy is willing to not just play but to live as well.
The world Kristen Ashley constructs in her Honey series is one that will push readers to the edge because it forces them to truly understand the Domme/alpha-sub relationship and acknowledge that the men who submit to their Mistresses are not masochists – at least not completely or pansies who willingly give up control in all facets of their lives; they are men who know what they need to get off and to free themselves from the metaphorical bonds that drag them down and won’t let go until they’ve submitted to a power that can help release them from the chains that confine them. It’s an enticing environment that Ashley creates, and even though it forces readers to step a bit out of their comfort zones with the kind of play that is illustrated throughout Evangeline and Branch’s play, it also clearly showcases just how sensual and beautiful that kind of relationship can be when a Domme and sub find a connection that they never want to surrender.
4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
What to say about The Farthest Edge. Well, I loved it. I went into it with a little trepidation after The Deep End, which I did enjoy but some how just kind of missed the mark, but it is like Kristen Ashley found her way with these two characters. There was no longer the unsure feeling in the words, the 'scenes' were smooth and tied wonderfully into the story. The Alpha-Sub, which is who these books are really all about, really shined through in this one. Branch's two sides were so evenly matched that he came across as much more believable and Evangeline, well she knew exactly how to work him.
The Farthest Edge is a story of two people who have removed themselves from the world, who are essentially lost and no longer living, just ghosting (Branch a bit more literally than Evangeline) through life. It is the story of how through patience, understanding, and ultimately love they bring peace to each other and allow each other to open themselves fully to their family, friends, and most importantly one another.
I loved that as opposed to Amélie and Olivier's showiness, with Branch and Evangeline we get a soft, quiet, private couple. Don't get me wrong there is nothing terrible about putting it all out on display if that's what you want to do and or see but it was nice to go from one side to the other in these two books. It gives a total different feel which as a reader we are grateful for, you don't want the same book over and over.
As with all Kristen Ashley books, she excels in story telling, in crafting a believable while still outlandish story that will have you flipping pages and gripping your e-books. I love that she stays true to that in these stories. As a reader of all genres I have read a number of erotica/BDSM books in the past and sadly more often than I would like I find the books to be jus one 'scene' after another, the substance lacking to make room for more 'steamy' moments and while those books can be a quick enjoyable read the best kind is one that is based on a believable story, with a relatable couple, and has the steamy moments woven through out and Kristen Ashley hit it perfectly with this one.
I am really looking for more from this series, I have so many questions about all the different players and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I loved that Amélie and Olivier were involved in this story as well as several of the other characters we got to know in The Deep End with the addition of a new character that I am really curious to see if something happens with.
Keep in mind this is a BDSM storyline and one that Kristen Ashley has taken a chance with since it isn't your typical dynamic. You may be a huge Kristen fan but this may not be the series for you and that's okay. Make sure you know what you are going into before you get there though. This book is an Erotica, it is a balance between the Hero being a Sub and an Alpha male, while the Heroine is the Domme with the ability to understand the Alpha in the Hero. There is a beautiful story but there is also sex, sex that may not be within your comfort zone. If you find that this story isn't for you but you love a good romance let me suggest any of Kristen Ashley's other books, she is an amazing author who has taken a huge leap with this series and you will find it to be a really great series if you know what you are about to read and you go in with an open heart and mind!
~ Happy Reading ~
Happy to be back at the Honey Club and even happier that Kristen Ashley went right into the two characters that intrigued me the most in The Deep End … Evangeline and Branch. The two people, besides Aryas, that had me wondering exactly what went on with the both of them. And, Ms. Ashley did not disappoint me in the least with the telling of their story, of explaining what got them to this place in their lives and how beautiful it would be when they healed each other.
Branch was mysterious, dangerous and sexually submissive. Evangeline was wary, afraid and a Domme through and through. Branch never encountered a woman who could totally master him. Evangeline finally met the man that could possibly shatter her in more ways than one. But, as their story progresses, as Evangeline gets her confidence back and Branch finally lets go, things get even more intriguing. Branch’s past is rearing its ugly head and that may be the one thing that pulls him away from the woman he is falling in love with.
Branch confuses Evangeline. First he is on guard, then he is sweet, then he is closed-off, then he is protective. He doesn’t want to be outed but then does things that make it hard for her to keep his secret. She’s falling in love with him but has no idea where it will lead. After no contact with him and a visit from a mysterious stranger, she knows that her heart will stop when he walks out of her life.
As the Honey Club progresses and we learn more and more about the characters, you can’t help but wonder where Kristen Ashley is taking this series. As she introduces new people into the mix, you have to hope that, in the end, they will all get their happily-ever-afters. She is showing us different sides to everyone involved and keeps us on our toes throughout the series.
Kristen Ashley is a very talented author. She knows how to write a story that is fluent, flowing and interesting. Her characters are very well thought out and she makes sure that you understand them and their actions. I know, sitting down to one of her stories, that I will be entertained, intrigued and satisfied.
This book was so sexy. I was fanning myself still after reading. Even more than that though. It was a beautifully emotional story. I thought this was a great addition to the series and I really enjoyed it. I liked it even more than the first book, but I love everything by Kristen Ashley. I have learned this late but have caught up quickly. I don't want to go to far into the plot. I will just say that I absolutely loved these two broken characters and I felt for everything they have been through and I loved seeing how they progress in their relationship.
I absolutely cannot wait to read more from Kristen Ashley and more in this series.
Okay so I'm going to have to be frank with this review because KA BLEW ME AWAY. I was so excited for this new series from her because some of her past heroes have pushed boundaries and been part of the not-so-norm. Now The Deep End was this electrically charged tale of two people finding one another and finding that level of companionship they had always wished for.
But Branch and Evangeline's story is one for the history books, folks. These two characters are in two different lows and feel they believe they have to accept that fact that they can never find true happiness for themselves. After Evangeline suffers a horrible tragedy at the hands of a man whom she trusted to be her sub, she's spent months away from the world she called home. Branch not only witnessed the aftermath of Evangeline's attack, but he's the one who was charged with meeting out vengeance, and not just his own.
I knew I would love Branch the minute his grouchy self walked on to the pages in TDE. But I couldn't fathom the LOVE I would have for the way he just GETS it. He understands Evangeline to a point where they are so symbiotic its unbelievable. Now wrap that up in the fact that Branch knows where her struggle is coming from, knows he wants her out of that inability to trust; so he lays it all out for her.
He can handle whatever it is she can and will dish out or demand of him. This lays the groundwork for Evangeline to find her way back to the life at her own pace, and in her own way. Little does Branch know that by laying that trust at Evangeline's feet he's given her a gift; the ability to let her chip away at the walls he's built to hide his gruesome past.
Thrown in the fact that the love between these two is just contagious and beautiful. And the sex is just....*whew*. I felt inappropriate reading it alone at home! Definitely one of the hottest reads EVER! Can't wait to see what more we'll have in store from The Honey Series!!!
Talk about a HOT read! Holy Cow the chemistry between Branch and Evangeline was amazing.
This book had a much different feel than The Deep End had, it could be because of the dynamic between the couples, but, I have a feeling it's because the majority of this book was held outside of The Bees Honey.
Evangeline has been out of the life for a year, ever since her sub/boyfriend flipped out and severely beat her at the end of a scene they were having at The Bees Honey, but now it's time for her to come back according to her friends. But Leenie is not sure she is ready, well that was until she met Branch. We met Branch in The Deep End, if you haven't read it yet you really should because it sets this book up nicely with the back story that will enhance your reading of The Farthest Edge, Branch is someone I found very intriguing. Alpha-submissive isn't a term I have encountered much before but that is exactly what Branch is, he may be submissive in the bedroom but outside of it he was a true alpha male, and it was a heady combination that Leenie loved.
I am really enjoying this series and I cannot wait for the next book. There are quite a few people that I look forward to seeing get their HEA's, and even a few that I can see together, but only time will tell what Ms. Ashley has in store for us, but no matter what it is I am sure that it will be a great read because Kristen Ashley is a story weaver like no other.
I enjoyed this one a little bit more than the previous book! This one felt more like a KA book, and believe me when I say I love her books! So when I start this one, from the beginning I was sure I like it more.
Branch was mysterious, dangerous ,submissive, protective and sweet!I really liked him!Evangeline is strong and doesn't afraid to show how she feels.
Overall I find this story erotic ,sensual and hot.If you didn't enjoy very much the first book please give this one a try I can easily say that it's much better!!
Alpha males being submissive… I always thought that was a no-no combination, but I loved Kristen Ashley’s The Deep End. And yes, Alpha males can be submissive. The Farthest Edge is the second book in ‘the Honey Series’ and tells the story of Evangeline – one of the club’s Dommes – and Branch. I love their hot and sensual, but also sweet and typical KA story.
“She’d never had an issue with being that girl. It was just who she was. But that wasn’t the girl she was going to be anymore.”
For as long as she can remember Evangeline had a thing for BDSM. She just went with her feelings, learned from experienced Mistresses and became part of the scene. Playing with different subs isn’t her thing, Evangeline wants to share her world with her lover, her life-partner. Not just the dominance and submissive, but also the day-to-day life like a regular couple. She thought she’d found that, until all went down in a horrible incident. Branch is a man with a harsh past who’s literally living on the edge. He’s an Alpha man through and through, but needs the pain and submission. He isn’t looking for a woman, but he can’t say no the fiery Domme.
“Really gotta go, baby.” “’Kay,” she murmured. “Text me when you’re on your way home.” “All right.” “Later, Angie.” “Later, Branch.”
Evangeline and Branch aren’t looking for anything; she is not ready to get back to the scene and he thinks he can do with imitations of the real deal. A mutual acquaintance thinks differently and pushes the two together. Branch immediately turns Evangeline down, but she sees right through him. After some dancing around the couple settles into a strictly Dom/Sub deal, but this… is a KA story. There are some tense and head-shaking moments, but Branch and Evangeline just work. They have very hot moments that are of the charts, but also very sweet moments. I love the two of them together.
“She loved every second. When their mouths broke, she didn’t make more avowals of love. Branch wasn’t that way. They had it. They knew it. They didn’t need to go over it. They just needed to be easy.”
Branch and Evangeline are two very different persons, but somehow, they have that special click. Of course, it’s only physical at first, but feelings do get involved. I struggled a bit with the distance and formality of the leading lady of the previous Honey book, but I love Evangeline. She’s a real sweet KA heroine, but with a much kinkier side. Branch is Branch. He’s an Alpha guy with a darker twist. A friend pointed out he reminded her of Creed, and I fully agree. He has a total ‘Unfinished Hero’ feeling over him.
“Her Branch no longer surfed the edge. He lived the one they shared. And he loved it there. As did she.”
I love The Farthest Edge. I give the story of Evangeline and Branch 5 stars.
Evangeline Brooks has pulled herself away from her friends and the club she frequents called The Bee's Honey. After a traumatic experience with her ex boyfriend, she has pulled herself so far from that lifestyle, she isn't sure it is what she wants anymore. Until, she is talked into meeting someone who may be just the ticket to dipping back in, with some no strings and completely safe fun.
Branch Dillinger has been living his life in the shadows, doing odd jobs that his training as a soldier comes in handy for. He knows what he needs sexually, and sometimes settles for what is available just to get it. Meeting Evangeline doesn't work out... until she proves to him that she is the one in charge, whether he accepts it or not.
When these two damaged people enter in a sex only arrangement, that let's face it, lasts about 2.5 seconds... they will either heal each other, or the damage will become permanent...
I enjoyed this book, the story did move fairly slowly, but I enjoyed Evangeline and Branch's progression to their HEA. While they try to move past their individual circumstances that may be holding them back, they easily fall into a comfortable pattern with each other... which happens to include Branch being tied to the bed... a lot. Definitely some steaming sex and an interesting twist on the KA alpha male.
This book and the entire Honey series is such a departure from your usual Kristen Ashley story setting... when you hear Domme, male subs and a sex club, you may not know what to expect. This story is written to include her typical Alpha bad a** characters, great friendships and the kind of backgrounds and slow burn stories you have come to love and expect from KA. But the twist is... a lot of graphic male sub sex scenes. Very descriptive, detailed scenes where nothing is held back. Fair warning, if this is something that you don't want to read about, whether KA is a favorite author or not this book may not be for you.
All in all this book is an interesting and different addition to Kristen Ashley's repertoire and the second in the Honey Series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Shel: I'm going to try not to regale you with my love affair with Kristen Ashley and her books because that is one thing that's widely known and does not change; instead let's focus on why The Farthest Edge was so hard to put down. Part of it was what always compels me to read a KA novel--I know I'm going to get a great love story, a mix of sweet and funny dialogue, and strong characters--but in this particular novel, I just loved that she created Evangeline and Branch for each other. I absolutely couldn't imagine two characters who are a better fit. Branch has isolated himself from relationships with people for so long that he needs exactly the type of woman Evangeline is. She's is patient and kind and his match when it comes to his sexual needs, but more than that, she's a fighter. When Evangeline sets her sights on something it's her quiet determination, her steel will, that makes her perfect for Branch. Additionally, she plays dirty to get what she wants...but her dirty is exactly the kind of dirty that works for and with Branch. Her brand of dirty is one of the sweetest, most intuitive brands of dirty I've read and I could kiss her for it. And not to be overlooked is Branch's complete adoration of Evangeline (though he's in denial, he's got it bad for her). The way he looks after her, his lip twitches, his quiet strength are all classic KA alphas but he's also got this huge hurting heart that makes him so endearing.
Court: Ugh. From the very first page, I felt this was going to be even better than the first book in the series (and it was pretty amazing!). Our world is already set up, so we really got to dig into the things that make these two tick. There is so much to Branch's part of the story and I am so glad that we had his point of view and weren't completely in the dark. The sexiness of this book rivals even my favorites of KA and that is such a fun part of this series. I really would like to think people who practice BDSM would appreciate how that part of this series is handled. Then Evangeline is a fantastic heroine. She is secure in who she is, and even though her world gets shaken for a minute - she takes the time she needs to grieve and then sets about getting back into her life the way she wants it. She is also funny and sweet, and sort of hits Branch like a wrecking ball in how he is prepared to handle her. Just thinking about them again just makes me smile, because this book has so many feels (I teared up) and fun times, and heart racing times (for various reasons ;) that I love, love, love it!
Shel: As with all of my favorite KA novels, the secondary characters are also important and I love that we not only get to see many of the characters we were introduced to in The Deep End but we meet someone important to Branch (and I can't help but hope we'll see more of this person in a future novel). These characters seem extra important in this series because through these characters we see our main characters gain more insight and perspective and it's through those conversations that I feel like we sometimes get even deeper into the hearts and minds of Branch and Evangeline. Court: Exactly. Secondary characters and setting are always a huge part of a KA experience, and this book is absolutely no different. Characters we met before, a few new ones, and yes --- meeting someone important to a guy like Branch is a vital part of this story, and I cannot wait to see who is the focus of the next one!
Shel: I'm really digging the Honey series; it has all the things I love about Kristen Ashley's books and uses the amped up sexual play of her characters as a way to explore intimacy in a way that feels respectful and absolutely right for who they are and what they need. Court: I couldn't have said it better. This book is off the charts sexy, and Branch and Evangeline's journey is not one to miss!
Captivating...
Kristen Ashley has a way of pulling you in and totally captivating you with her stories. The Farthest Edge is no different. Two broken people come together, one desperate to find her way back the other just surviving.
Evangeline is desperate to get her life back after her last "relationship " went wrong. Hiding for the last year, her friends are probably pushing her to come back to them. One man could be her ticket if only he can open himself up.
Branch is a ghost who is totally broken. He's drifting through life with only revenge pouring out of him. He is convinced that nothing good will come out of anyone he's involved with so he stays to himself. Can Evangeline be his Salvation?
Y'all this is wonderful Book told in true Ashley fashion. She has a way of making us fall in love with her characters and their stories. Excellent read!
