This 1st in The Murderbot Diaries introduces a a sentient machine (with organic neural tissue), Murderbot.
Though forced to work with (and protect) humans by contract, Murderbot - who prefers to spend time watching entertainment channels carried on company satellites - dislikes being around humans.
As Murderbot does whatever it takes to protect Dr. Mensah and her team, they in turn discover human traits in the SecUnit,
This is an excellent series, not to be missed!
