Catching Lily didn't really catch my interest I'm afraid. It's not horrible, but it's not great either. Lily runs her own handmade handbag business and Alan is an undercover patent attorney investigating her for fraud. While this is a good premise, it was executed a little blandly. I kept hoping for the story to pick up and give me something exciting, but it never did. The pace is really slow, the characters are generic and about the only great thing is the ending.
I think I would have enjoyed it more if either the suspense were really amped up or the passion was turned up. But as it stands, it just languishes in the middle of the road between cute and clean and steamy and suspenseful. It's like a cute cozy mystery with a tiny bit of romance thrown in, except in those type of books, the leads are usually bright and entertaining, and here in Catching Lily, neither character is particularly interesting or a standout.
If it weren't for the sweet, slightly emotional ending, I would have rated this 2 stars, but the ending was sweet and a little swoon worthy so I had to tack on an extra star just for that reason.
This is the first book I have read by Julia. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This book is about a small business girl named Lily who custom designs handbags. She is struggling with her business, trying to keep others from stealing her designs. One day a guy name Alan walks into the store and she is struck by how handsome he is. Alan is a patent attorney who is investigating fraud. As soon as he sees Lily he is struck by her beauty and is curious about how she could be involved. Can Lily save her business and keep her heart from breaking? Can Alan find out who is behind it all and save Lily from danger in the process? This book was extremely well written. The author took her time to develop the story and lay out the plot. The development of the characters were unique and interesting. This story was not rushed. This book will definitely keep you guessing to the very end. You never know who is involved in the whole scheme. Overall it was a very good book. I will read more by this author. I do recommend this book. It’s a very cozy read.
I found this book confusing, only in the last few chapters did you really get what they were investigating and then investigation changed and I wasn't sure what was going on. Lily came across to me as an annoying ditz, she had no clue what was going on around her with anyone. This story wasn't my cup of tea.
This just didn't hold my interest at all. I hate to not finish a book, it truly upsets me but I couldn't finish it. DNF around 20 percent.
*Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review* This book was not for me. The cover is cute and it seemed like it would be interesting, but to be honest, the characters were awful. Lilly is too trusting, naive, and she reminds me of a teenage girl. She meets this new guy who is cute and nice, but always asking her questions about her business plans and her designs. To me this would be weird and I would be on alert and Lilly does find it odd, but then he smiles at her and suddenly she forgets all about is weird behavior. Or when she finds him checking out the back of her store and asking if there is a basement, again odd, but then he gives her a quick kiss and flowers and all is forgotten. One minute she trusts him and the next she pushes him away and isn't sure if she should allow him around her. She was very back and forth. Some stuff in the book just didn't add up and this guy was a horrible undercover investigator. He was also very back and forth. I was hoping to like this book, but I just couldn't get into it.
