If the Haunting Fits, Wear It by Rose Pressey was another enjoyable addition to her A Haunted Vintage Mystery series.
Cookie and Charlotte are off to the Kentucky Derby to help a client "dress" for the big events. Of course, Cookie, finds a dead body the first night there. We also get to meet not just one but two new ghosts who are both looking for justice. Dylan and Ken both show up to keep Cookie company while at the Derby which causes some problems for Cookie as she tries to juggle both men.
A steady plot, some twists and plenty of suspects created a mystery that was fun and easy to read.
What a well written mystery. Great plot and quirky characters.
This is one of my favorite cozy series. It's light hearted and fun to read. The ghosts are all likable and happy to have Cookie Chanel as a friend. With her sidekick ghost Charlotte and her companion cat who is her grandmother, Cookie heads to Kentucky for the derby. When a jockey's ghost needs help she investigates. This is book 5 in the Haunted Vintage Mystery and the clothing and vintage items in Cookie's shop sound marvelous. The fashion tips from her grandmother, Wind Song the cat are appropriate for everyone. This can be read as a stand alone but the background of Charlotte and Wind Song are too good to miss from previous books.
The Haunted Vintage Mystery series is a fun, quirky cozy mystery series. Main character, Cookie Chanel, owns a vintage clothing store, It's Vintage, Y'all. Her best friend, Hannah, is the proud owner of an occult shop. It's a blessing she has a friend with knowledge of the spirit world because Cookie is a ghost-magnet. Not only that, but her grandmother's spirit now inhabits her pet cat. The cat passes messages to Cookie by moving a planchette around a Ouija board. The stories are fun to read. The characters are charming. And, the mysteries are engaging. There are many paranormal themed cozy series out there....but this one is refreshingly different. Each book is filled with lighthearted humor, interesting plots, and likable characters.
If The Haunting Fits, Wear It is the 5th book in the series. A reader will learn all the background and prior situations of the characters by starting with book 1, but it's also perfectly fine to jump in with this newest book. There isn't anything vital in the plot that requires knowledge of the prior books.
The basics: Cookie has been hired to provide vintage hats for a Kentucky Derby party, so she rushes off to Kentucky. Just before leaving, she meets a female ghost who needs help discovering who killed her. The new ghost, Maureen, joins ghostly pal Charlotte and Cookie on the trip to Kentucky. But this isn't destined to be a simple business trip.....Cookie discovers the dead body of one of the derby jockeys, Ramon. His spirit joins her ghostly crew, asking Cookie to investigate his death. So while giving advice on vintage clothing for the Derby, Cookie is also investigating two murders -- Maureen's and Ramon's. Unfortunately, someone doesn't want her investigating. Threats and menacing thugs come Cookie's way as she tries to discover two killers and still get to the Derby on time!
As usual, I enjoyed this newest addition to the series. I enjoy the humor, vintage clothing tips and the quirkiness of the characters and situations. There were plenty of twists, turns and possible suspects in the jockey's murder. And the whole gang helped investigate Maureen's death. The Derby gave an interesting location change to the book.
All in all, a fun read and I look forward to the next book! At the very back of this book is an excerpt from upcoming 6th book, A Passion for Haunted Fashion, coming soon from Kensington!

Cookie Chanel is on the road helping a client, Danielle, dress for the Kentucky Derby. While attending one of the parties, she discovers the dead body of Danielle's jockey, Ramon. Of course, his ghost starts following her around. He joins regular ghost Charlotte and another woman who had joined earlier in the book, Maureen.
Cookie decides to stick around to see if she can help solve Ramon's murder. While there, both of her beaus (Love-triangle alert! Seriously?) follow her and try to help out. Not helping out? Heather, the woman who owns the B&B where Cookie is staying. Also not helping, the fact that Ramon doesn't seem to have been a nice guy. It makes it hard to find out who murdered you when there are a number of people lining up for the chance.
In comparison it to other books in the series, this book was just not as good. The love triangle with Cookie took up a lot of space (and didn't really add to the mystery), Maureen took up a lot of space (and definitely didn't add to the mystery), and there just wasn't enough room to develop the main mystery.
And don't even get me started on that horrible ending. I hope it gets changed before publication.
Two and a half stars
This book comes out June 27
This was so much fun to read! The ghosts are awesome, and the random comments and bickering added a lot of humor. I absolutely love "Grandma Pearl's Pearls of Wisdom." She sounds like she would've been such a sassy character. The mystery itself felt a little weak, but I can't pinpoint exactly what didn't work for me.
4-1/2 Stars. I always find a new Haunted Vintage Mystery fun and entertaining! Book 6 raced me to the Kentucky Derby with Cookie Chanel, owner of a nifty vintage boutique. Along for the ride is a new ghost, Maureen, who owned some of the hats Cookie purchased for a customer. Also, the ghost of Ramon, a jockey who was supposed to be riding one of the Derby contenders suddenly appears and Cookie is asked to solve two murders. Luckily, her savvy and sassy #1 ghost friend, Charlotte, is always by Cookie's side to help search for clues and keep the dialogue snappy and humorous. I love Wind Song, Cookie's gorgeous white Persian cat, who is cool and magical and has a closely guarded secret. The action is consistent throughout the storytelling and kept me guessing who the killer's were until the author reveal. I always look forward to Ms. Pressey's quirky characters, and the mysteries are neatly reined in at the end.
P.S. My heart was touched by the scene with Secretariat.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy from NetGalley and the publisher.
A decent fun read, liked the Derby tie in (especially since I work near Pimlico with the Preakness!) Wished the ghosts were a bit more developed this time, but unlike some others I had no issues in following the conversations, I've probably read way to many paranormal books!
I have thoroughly enjoyed Cookie Chanel and the Haunted Vintage Mysteries series. In 'If the Haunting Fits, Wear It' Cookie and the ever present Charlotte are off to the Kentucky Derby and pick up a couple of more quirky ghost friends along the way, both of whom need their murders solved. Cookie takes some silly and completely unbelievable chances in this offering in the series, which makes it a little less enjoyable than previous outings. I'm appreciative of the little resolve with the team Dylan and team Ken issue and I look forward to the next in the series.
I always look forward to the next Rose Pressey book, so was happy to be selected to review this one! She combines her knowledge of vintage fashion with these quirky characters to make laugh out loud funny stories! This one was a little busy for my tastes - with THREE ghosts and two murders to solve in one book - but she still managed to tie it up neatly with a bow. My question now is what is going to happen with these two beaus??
Cookie is going to the Derby. Cookie finds herself in Kentucky, for the famous Kentucky Derby and finds murder and and extra ghost or two along the way. This installment finds Cookie out of her comfort zone and into new territory when looking into a jockey's murder. Ramon had some enemies but who wanted him dead and why? We get too see the dark underbelly of the horse racing world and its not all vintage fashion and shine. Mystery wasn't hard too figure out and with all her books Mrs. Pressey writes a clean and uncomplicated mystery. It one of our patrons favorite series for this reason. Can't wait for the next installment
This is not my first Rose Pressey book. In fact, she is on the list of authors that I search for at the used book store. I really enjoy her Haunted Vintage Mystery Series, and was happy to review this book.
This is the fifth book in the series. This one was a bit of a departure, as we traveled with Cookie to Kentucky to see the Derby instead of hanging out in her Vintage Clothing shop in Georgia. We get to go to the fancy parties and hang out with the horses prior to the race. As most cozies take place in the same town every book, I thought this was a clever departure. And what a perfect venue for a clothes hound! I like the addition of Dylan coming to surprise her and spend time with her so he isn't left out despite Cookie being out of town. The mystery is interesting, although I was pretty sure who did it for most of the book. Staying at the strange B&B was an odd choice, but it did add some color to the story.
I liked the ending a great deal- Ramon's "departure" was very clever and I love what she tells Dylan (not trying to spoil it for you, but it's good!). I did feel a few chapters ending rather abruptly, but besides that, it was a solid entertaining read. Can't wait for the next one!

Book Review
It was kind of quirky, funny book. Cookie thought she was going to have a fun working vacation as she dressed one of the players at the Kentucky Derby. At first, it seemed to play that way for her, but then the murder happened and now she has three ghosts following her around. Two she brought with her, Ginger and Charlotte, and the jockey. It turns out that the jockey did not have the most sterling character, so there are a few to many suspects. Topping the list is a former girlfriend/witch, who enlists her friend to make Cookie's life miserable. A bed and breakfast, with a funky, make that weird hostess. Then her two boyfriends show up at her place of residence. So many events occurring before the murder is revealed.
If the Haunting Fits, Wear It is the fifth book in Rose Pressey’s Haunted Vintage Mystery series. There is excellent background information, which allows this book to be read as a stand-alone. This is an entertaining cozy paranormal mystery with well-developed characters, but the writing in this installment doesn’t flow as smoothly as the previous books in this series. Some of the details are off and some things are repeated more often than necessary, but since I’m reading an advance reader copy, those things may be corrected prior to publication. The clothing descriptions were interesting but a little too detailed for my taste; however, they fit perfectly with Cookie owning a vintage clothing shop.
Cookie Chanel loves all things vintage and is the owner of a vintage clothing shop named It's Vintage Y'All in Sugar Creek, Georgia. Cookie has the ability to see and speak with ghosts and her cat, Wind Song, is psychic and uses Ouija boards and Tarot cards to communicate with her, and interestingly, is her Grandma Pearl. Charlotte Meadows is the ghost who has adopted her. Cookie has become comfortable with her gift and sometimes slips and talks to the ghosts in front of others. Danielle Elston asked Cookie to find vintage hats for her to wear at the upcoming Kentucky Derby, so Cookie is gathering vintage hats from a trunk in an attic when Maureen Weber, a ghost, appears stating the hats are hers. Once Maureen realizes Cookie is live and can see her, she wants Cookie to find her murderer. Danielle, who has a horse entered in the Derby, wants Cookie to attend the Derby to make sure she’s dressed perfectly for all the events, so Cookie arranges for her best friend and mother to watch her shop, packs her bags, and she, Charlotte, Wind Song, and even Maureen, pile into her red 1946 Buick convertible and head to Kentucky. While attending the first luncheon, Cookie stumbles upon the body of Ramon Gooden, the jockey who was supposed to ride Danielle’s horse in the Derby, and his ghost wants Cookie to investigate his murder.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
I think that I need to look at these books before requesting them LOL I had never read any of the other books in this series, but I really loved it a lot. I can't wait to delve into the other books of this series and many more after hopefully
This is more of a 3.5 star rating. I've read all of the books in this series so far. I love the vibrant covers on all the books, but this is my favorite cover so far.
The vibrant colors caught my eye and I'm just a huge fan of book covers, they tell a lot about the book and the author.
In this story, my favorite clothing fashionista, Cookie Chanel is at it again. Dressed in her vintage attire, it's time for the Kentucky Derby and everyone is excited.
Cookie and her sidekick, Charlotte are soon in the middle of a murder when new ghost, Maureen, seeks Cookies help and the death of a jockey at the derby stirs things up.
I loved that the story took place at the derby. It was different and it made interesting.
Parts of the story fell flat for me and I was skimming pages that didn't interest me.
I think the confusion for me lies in the investigation itself. When Cookie is helping a ghost and solving a murder, it gets a bit disjointed and hard to follow.
I think with a little more polishing, this would have been 5 stars.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
Brilliant loved the book one of my favourite authors. I enjoy reading the tips for vintage shopping on each chapter. The only thing I didn't like was the two love interest I really think she needs to tell Ken that they can be friends only . I glad d that cookie has finally told Dylan the truth about seeing ghosts . I had a feeling who the killer was but was still unsure until the end ,I couldn't put the book down .Thank you for letting me review this book and will look forward in reading her next book .
This is a series that you definitely have to read previous books to enjoy.
Although this book was not my cup of tea, fans of the series will enjoy it.
I couldn't finish this book, I gave up when the jockeys eyes mysteriously changed from brown to mesmerising blue. Choppy, no continuation, stilted writing.
My thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
3 1/2 stars
If the Haunting Fits, Wear It is the 5th book in the Haunted Vintage Mystery series. It's an entertaining cozy paranormal mystery that made for a fun afternoon read. The book is set right before and during the Kentucky Derby.
Cookie Chanel, the owner of a vintage clothing store, is hired to provide clothing and hats for Kentucky Derby parties. Her client, Danielle, has a horse running in the race, so Cookie meets all the trainers etc. involved with getting the horse ready to race.
As in the other Haunted Vintage Mysteries, Cookie is accompanied by Charlotte, a ghost who adopted her and her cat (who also happens to be her grandmother). In this book, she's also with Maureen, a new ghost who wants Cookie to find out how she was murdered. At one of Derby parties, Cookie finds the body of the jockey, Ramon, the jockey who was supposed to ride her client's horse. Ramon appears as a ghost and wants Cookie to investigate his murder.
I enjoyed the book, but the dialogue was sometimes hard to follow because there were three ghosts speaking whenever Cookie had a conversation. It would be easier to read if the ghosts' dialogue were somehow distinguished from the rest. Cookie solves murders to get rid of the ghosts that follow her around, and that premise is a little far-fetched, but it's a paranormal mystery so suspending belief is part of appreciating the book!
The characters were fun, the setting was different and unusual, and the writing was well paced and easy to read.
The Kentucky Derby setting made the book stand out, and the descriptions of the dresses were great and sounded beautiful. The background information about horse training was interesting as well. This book could be read as a standalone without reading the others in the series. They are all engaging.
This was an amusing, quick cozy mystery, and I recommend it to cozy mystery readers, especially those who enjoy paranormal or fashion mysteries.
