Charmed Texas, the honey capital of the state is about to get a fancy park. The developer, Sully Lucky, just happens to be a former love of Carman Frost, a lawyer with wanderlust. The star-crossed lovers meet again raising the gossip level in the small town to a fevered pitch. A delightful read for the beach.
RATING: 4 out of 5
Lucky Charmed is the second book in Lovelace’s Charmed in Texas series, following A Charmed Little Lie that was released in April.
This time, we have Carmen Frost who has been planning to leave Charmed to follow her wanderlust dream after finally divorcing her husband… only to find out that her first love, Sullivan “Sully” Hart — the one who left her behind and broke her heart fifteen years ago — has decided to return and settle down in Charmed instead.
Similar to the first book, Lucky Charmed is written using the heroine’s first person narrative. I do prefer alternate point-of-views in my romance. I mean, there were times that I would’ve LOVED to get inside Sully’s mind, to know what he thinks and feels about Carmen. However, I admit that I enjoyed the drama and the surprises at the same time as Carmen.
Without knowing anything about that night from Sully’s perspective, Carmen’s emotion when she discovers the secrets being kept from her feels more effective. Besides, despite the lack of Sully’s POV, I still thought the chemistry between the two of them was strong.
I loved that Carmen doesn’t easily give in to Sully’s explanation. I loved that she gets angry at him. I loved that she confronts Sully (and also her mother). I loved that Carmen still tries to follow her dream. Sometimes it needs to be done — experiencing what you think you want or need before making any decision in your life.
I really think Sharla Lovelace’s writing clicks with me. Now I can’t wait to read book #3. Because there’s a development regarding that future couple in this book that intrigues the hell out of me!
PS: There are a number of errors regarding the name of Sully’s brother. At first it is written as Aidan. But later it is also written as Aiden. I hope the release version is cleaned from this mistake.
This eARC was provided to me by Netgalley.
I was so excited about the promises of this book because the reviews on Goodreads were so strong and that usually is a good sign for me. I also loved the plotline all the way through. But it sadly didn't have a strong impact on me like it did for the other reviewers.
It was still a cute and good read, but it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. The ending almost made up for it though. There were a couple of slow scenes, though I did really like the part in the middle where Sully felt the need to come to the rescue for something that happened. (Not going to say here!) That was when it got a little bit better for me. It's still a good read if you want something that's a cute summer read. It's definitely a beach type of read.
I also really like the cover!
Have you ever read a book and find yourself smiling. Not because something funny just happened, but because you're just having a great time enjoying a simply good book. That was me reading Lucky Charmed. The characters are great and sympathetic. It’s a small town story so there are busy bodies and a near instant gossip train, but there are also people who know your heart’s hurt or happiness, just by looking you in the eye.
This story was so refreshing. The characters are all so down to earth. Sully and Carmen spent just a few weeks together 15 years ago, but the love was real and the heartache true. When they finally see each other again they both know that their feelings haven't changed, but the road to HEA is rarely without bumps and a bruise or two.
I think if you read, it you’ll enjoy the ride.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGallery, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The second I finished this book, I just wanted to start it all over again. And if there wasn't a huge pile of TBR constantly poking me and reminding me of its very well noted presence, I would've done just that. There's something about the writing style that just grabbed me. It was so easy and whimsical and hilarious, that it made me want to read every other book written by this author.
I personally loved Charmed. Carmen's hating on her hometown and its people was the most hilarious thing. But I get it, how gossip-worthy anyone's story is in a small town like hers. And it's incredibly frustrating to move on when everyone's constantly reminding you of your mistakes or your long lost lover who left you stranded in a parking lot, for crying out loud. Or people judging you because they literally have nothing better to do. Of course, that's not what I loved about Charmed. What I loved was Lanie and Ally and Larry and Bash and Carmen's mom. And I couldn't help but sympathize with Dean, despite all his stupidity. He was in love with a woman who was in love with another man. AH the love triangle trope. Couldn't have been portrayed any better.
The vibe of the story was all-around positive, hilarious and swoon-worthy. And somehow, that made the intense scenes... even more intense..? There's definitely something different about this one, because... Okay well, here's a confession; I cried. I cried when Carmen learned the truth about Sully's departure. I don't know what it is, but that level of selflessness just made me want to sob my eyeballs out. And here's the thing, I didn't even cry while reading Colleen Hoover's books. Although her books were certainly the definition of INTENSE. This one just hit me. Hard. Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting it. But dammit, it was good.
Carmen is the person I'd want to be like when I'm in my 30's. She still has her childish innocence and she's so carefree and... definitely not 33. I actually had to remind myself that she's 33 with a job. SHE'S A LAWYER, FOR GOD'S SAKE. But that doesn't stop her from having a sleepover with her 33 year-old BFF. ATTA GIRL. I just LOVED that.
I have waited for the story of Carmen and Sully, and the story didn't disappoint. There are so many levels of reveals and new understandings that it was hard to put down. The book was not rushed, and the ending was entirely satisfying. There is a whimsy about Charmed and I would like to visit again to read about Bash and Allie. Once again the story is spectacular, but the coarse language and graphic sex I felt detracted from what a potentially great book this could be.
this was great. A lot of resolution for the characters. Also openings for further books. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Sharla takes us back to Charmed, Texas. The author captured me in the early beginning and I couldn't put the book down until I knew how Carmen and Sully's story played out. The reader's had the pleasure of seeing a the characters from the previous book, I loved how the story intertwined with the first. Carmen and Sully's HEA never quite happened, will they know be able to put aside everyone's else's wishes and play the hand that they should have decades ago. This is a story of second chances, can their love for each other be enough to make it work this time. Readers you are in for a treat. Hold on as this one has some twist your weren't expecting, but will true love pervail?
We met some new characters, I would love to learn more about Kia.

The cover, cute enough to make me want to read it.
The story, for those of us who read “a charmed little lie”, we met Carmen, the no-nonsense lawyer who hated Bees. When she was young, she met Sully, he was just passing through her town with a Carnival that was his life. Carmen decides to run off with him but he leaves her and breaks her heart. So every year when the Carnival arrives, she pretends to be happy with her husband, even though she is miserable. I was really hoping that she will be stronger. Even though we hear the reasons he did what he did, it still did not sit well with me. It really frustrates me when people make decision on your behalf, they think they know better when in really it might be what makes you unhappy. I was really angry at her mother and at Sully and even though Dean was well, mean, I felt his pain, she was “Sully” to him.
The fact that she wanted to see other things and do what she hadn’t had the chance to do, it made Sully give up on everything, so my question was, why did he come back? To win her back? And he just gave up so soon? Was she supposed to wait for him until he was done with the carnie life?
The romance, I believed her, the pain, the longing, the love she felt for Sully. Him, I needed more pages for him to convince me that he really loved her and not just the idea of her being someone he could settle with.
Carmen, I loved being in her head. She was screwed by a lot of people, even her own town talked about her, she suffered a lot and still was able defend herself even as she melted.
Sully, I don’t know, there was something about that made mad. Maybe because he thought he was doing the right thing without asking her.
Overall, did I like the book? Yes, though now I need the next one. Would I recommend the book? Yes.
This is book 2 of the Charmed in Texas series, and although it does stand alone with no cliffhanger, I would suggest reading the first book because it gives a little more insight into the characters that star in this one. There is both on screen sex and cursing in this one – if f-bombs offend you, this is not the book for you because everyone uses it.
Carmen is a hot mess. Ironically, this is the exact same line that I used to describe Lanie in my review of the first book. Even though I didn't think it could be done, holy cow did Carmen out-hot-mess Lanie...and it wasn't even a close contest. This book is told completely from Carmen's point of view which is entertaining because of her aforementioned status as a total hot mess, but she is also so ridiculously scattered that it sometimes was difficult to follow. I liked her, I really did, but I wanted her to be stronger than she was, to be honest. Her outbursts in defense of herself were painted as something she should feel bad about, but those moments were the moments that I actually liked her the best. She should have had those outbursts from the start to curb the ridiculousness of the Charmed townspeople, Dean, and even her mom.
I liked Sully a lot, despite his very weak reasons for leaving Carmen behind without a word a decade before. I thought that he was a really good guy, and I liked the way that he was trying to make a better life for himself and the fact that he was trying to do all the right things to be a good guy, even when the people of Charmed treated him terribly. He's charming and sweet and a seriously good guy, which is refreshing in this day of guys who act like total jerks being called “alpha” to excuse their poor behavior. There's none of that here, he is just a seriously good guy.
If you like a good kissing scene, you're going to like Sully and Carmen together because these two have incredibly chemistry and their kissing scenes are smoking hot.
While Aunt Ruby was cute in the first book, I have to admit that the “Bailey” stuff that happened in this one wasn't my cup of tea at all. It wasn't a deal-breaker and it didn't make me want to quit reading, but it made me roll my eyes very hard as I read. That whole scene felt like a Star Trek fanfic rather than a contemporary romance novel – without that this would have been a five star read for me.
Although this book doesn't have the same sweet, charming qualities that made the first book in the series a must-read, it's a cute, easy read and a nice addition to this series. I cannot wait to read Allie and Bash's book.
I was generously granted an ARC of this book via NetGalley and was under no obligation to write this review.
This book sure made you have all the feels. I loved Carmen in A Charmed Little Lie and wanted her to find love and a happy ever after. We finally get the story of her and Sully's past and it's heartbreaking. Carmen attempted to go on with her life and mistakenly married Dean who never filled that void of true love despite marriage. Dean had his own reasons for leaving and while you are mad and upset at him you also fall in love with the guy.
This was emotional read as Carmen searches for what she is lacking out on a road trip- the saying if you love something set it free- if it comes back to you it's yours- if it doesn't it never was. Well that is perfect for Carmen and Sully BUT I also think it is perfect for Carmen and Charmed, Texas. Carmen needed to be set free and float around to find herself. Her return sealed that Charmed is for her.
This book is romantic in it's telling of Sully and Carmen's love story. Something just screams that raw, desperate passion and love that two souls just belong together.
I loved A Charmed Little Lie and from the moment I finished that book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book in the Charmed in Texas series! I am ecstatic to say the wait is over!!!!! Lucky Charmed was everything I had hoped it would be (and more)!!! Sharla Lovelace is a master at second chance romances and she proved that once again in Carmen and Sully!! Having been introduced to these characters in the first book, I enjoyed that we were able to jump right in and get to the meat of the story!! From the very beginning I was "all in" and ended up spending the entire day glued to my kindle until I finished this fantastic novel. Sharla Lovelace has an amazing talent of creating an original storyline with awesome characters. Lucky Charmed is a 4.5 star read that I enjoyed so much, I feel a re-read in my near future! The Charmed in Texas series has secured it's place as one of my favorites and I am VERY excited to get my hands on Once a Charmer, the third book due out in October!!!

If it's meant to be it will happen! That's how I feel after reading this book. It was amazing! I really felt like the connection was there between Sully and Carmen. They were teenagers crazy about each other, but due to certain circumstances Sully left Carmen in her hometown without saying goodbye. Fast forward years later and he is back in town for good and things are definetely tense and awkward. I was surprised, heartbroken, happy, frustrated, and swooning while reading Lucky Charmed. Sully breaks your heart, makes you want to grab him by the shoulders and shake him, makes you angry, and then makes you feel like your the only important thing in the world. Carmen can't let go of the past no matter how hard she tries and she needs closure. She tried moving on, but it didn't work and seeing him again after so many years just brings back all the memories. The good ones and the bad ones. It's a great second chance romance novel, I look forward reading the next book in the series. Highly recommend reading!
