I apologize but I was unable to get into this book so have not left any public reviews. I am removing older books from my profile and I am sorry that I was unable to read more of them. I will be more judicious in the future about which books I request and will keep up with publishing my reviews.

Really enjoyed this. Moving and interesting. As a rescuer myself, this book felt so familiar. Author Zheutlin has a very readable voice, and I felt like he was talking directly to me.

Rescued ⭐️⭐️.5

A heartwarming and humorous new look into the world of rescue dogs. Sharing his experiences as well as stories and advice from families and advocates, the author reveals the surprising lessons rescue dogs can teach us. For anyone who loves, lives with, or has ever wanted a dog, this charming book shows how the dogs whose lives we save can change ours for the better, too

I’m honestly not sure what I was expecting with this book. But whatever it was I didn’t get it. Small snippets of the book were in fact heartwarming and even a few were humorous but my overall sense of the book was dry and often tedious.

Maybe it was the warm fuzzy feeling I associate with rescuing my dogs, all 5 of them. Their antics, their individual personalities, the love they taught and the heartbreak of saying see you again. Sadly that feeling was missing, in fact the book contained very little emotion and came across as repetitive. Jumping back and forth between snippets of his own rescued dogs and of several other rescue families.

This book is a heart-felt review of what it means to adopt a rescue dog -- both the joys of seeing the dog happily enjoying life and the challenges of bringing a previously independent dog into your home (with all of its attendant fears and habits and behaviors). We have fostered a dog named Freckles, and adopted a seven year old husky rescue named Eva, a kitten from the SPCA named Anna, a street cat on the verge of death named Angus (who always acted more like a dog than a cat), a rescued Dalmation from the SPCA named Holly, a puppy named Soot who was found in an industrial rock pile, and our current puppy escaping flooding in the south named Lily. We've enjoyed a variety of animals and animal personalities, so we know the joy rescued pets can bring. Reading Mr. Zheutlin's accounts often reminded me of moments with our pets and how they changed who we are on the inside. How we have watched our children grow with them. How we have cared for them in their last days. How they truly do understand and comfort us during our times of loss and pain. The author's insights are real, honest, and accurate. The only critique I would have is that sometimes it felt like the book was overplaying the selflessness of rescuing an animal that would otherwise have been destroyed. While that may be true depending on the specific circumstances, I don't feel like I need a pat on the back for adopting rescues. They gave me more than I could ever give them. (Although if it encourages more people to step forward an fill this need, I'm all for it.) Heart-warming read.

I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this anymore. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!

It took me forever to get to this book, but I really enjoyed reading it. I felt so much more love for my dog, even though she isn't a rescue. Dog books can be hard to read sometimes, but overall I really liked this one.

I really enjoyed this book about a man and a dog. And a bunch of other dogs that have been rescued about wonderful people. While I enjoyed this book I feel like other similar books have done a better job. One thing that was a bit annoying for me was all the times he said "more about that later". Otherwise, an enjoyable read for anyone who calls themselves a dog lover.

Thanks for the opportunity to read a review this book.

I was looking forward to reading this - I mean, who wouldn't want to read about rescued dogs? - but I was pretty disappointed. While I can see the merit in a book extolling the benefits of having a rescue dog in one's life - satisfaction from saving an animal from almost certain suffering, the joy of caring for someone wholly dependent on you, a reason to get out of bed and off the couch - this book was more an amalgam of very short and disorganized vignettes about owners and their rescue dogs. The anecdotes Zheutlin collected from the people he encountered (presumably) in researching his previous book, as well as his observations about his own three dogs, are repeated again and again and again. This book needed an editor, and, in my opinion, should never have been published.

I'm sorry to say it, but I just didn't care for this book. Two stars for dogs. It's quite short; took me so long to read because I kept forgetting about it.

I received an e-book copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Would you choose a puppy or an grown dog from a shelter? So often, it is the puppy adopted rather than the grownup dog. Too often puppies are brought back when they aren't "fun" anymore. This is a book about a second hand dog the author about besides other stories from others who have gotten a second hand dog. There are so many amazing lessons dogs can teach us. This is a book that shows how special second hand dogs are. The dogs have so much love to give one. They are so loyal. I've have had second hand dogs and they are incredible. I truly enjoyed the book. I would recommend it to do lovers and those who are thinking of adopting a dog.

This book is great for anyone wanting to adopt a dog. It gives us information with mini stories about people who have or have had experience with rescue dogs. It highlights the unconditional love that a dog can have for it's owner. It also showcases the therapeutic and touching relationship between a dog and his master, everyone benefits.
Although this book educates us about the benefit and downfalls of adopting rescue dogs, I feel it would be interesting to all, including those who aren't dog owners.

I’m an animal lover and strong advocate for rescue animals. “Rescued” is written for anyone like me. Instead of focusing solely on the dogs it focuses on rescuers and how the dogs have impacted their lives. Recommended for all lovers of second-hand dogs.

Wonderful book about rescue dogs. I know my next dog will be a rescue. Dogs are so therapeutic and loving.

I'm a sucker for dogs of all sorts, but I have a particular soft spot for rescues. I currently have three rescue dogs (and a rescue cat) filling our home with love. I've had rescue dogs and cats all my adult life, and so I'm not new to the challenges they can present, with both health and behavior issues. This book, in my opinion, is aimed more toward people who are new to life with rescue dogs.

The author provides information on kill shelters and a little detail on how rescue organizations work. He gives us a look at what we might expect when rescuing a dog.

This book is told in a series of vignettes from the author's own experiences and an assortment of dog owners he interviewed. I prefer a more straightforward story. I found I couldn't settle in and feel the emotions here. We didn't linger long enough in any one spot for me to form a picture and attachment.

I do think this book is a great starter for anyone considering rescuing a dog or who is new to the experience. And I commend the effort here. I hope this book helps sway people toward adoption over purchasing from pet stores and/or breeders.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group for the opportunity to read and review Rescued by Peter Zheutlin. Rescued by Peter Zheutlin is about the all-encompassing wonderfulness of dogs. Each chapter opens with a quote sharing and stating the unconditional love of dogs and then tells of experiences when people’s lives have been touched by dogs. Beautiful, touching, humorous and deserving of a solid 5 stars for a book for all dog lovers!

This is a great overview of adopting a rescue dog. It includes stories of multiple families who have chosen to take a rescue into their home through either adoption or fostering. They are heartwarming and inspirational. As a rescue pet owner myself, I didn't find anything too new or astonishing in this book, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who is considering or wondering about getting a rescue. It will certainly give you many reasons to step out and take the plunge.
My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.

A couple of years ago, Peter Zheutlin wrote a book called Rescue Road, about a man who drives hundreds of thousands of miles to deliver abandoned dogs from kill shelters in the South to forever homes up north. Zheutlin went along for the ride and discovered how these trips bring love and joy to the rescued dogs and to the humans who often considered themselves rescued as well.

Now he's back with Rescued, the stories of these dogs and their newly adopted families and how their lives have been changed. Broken hearts have healed, souls have been restored, and lives have been saved. And one of those lives? Albie, the dog adopted finally adopted by Zheutlin and his family after his wife and kids spent years wearing him down. And while life with a dog isn't all Facebook photos and long afternoon snuggle naps and adorable games of catch, taking on a rescue dog does change your life for the better.

This is not always a easy book to read. There are many abandoned pets with sad stores who do not escape the shelters. I know that my copy of the book kept getting pretty misty, the words blurring in front of me (or is it just dusty in here? like, really dusty?). But it's as heart-warming a book as I've read in a long time, as well as beautiful reminder of what's most important in life.

Rescued takes you on a journey that will make you hug your dog (or dogs, or cats) extra hard, and might even cause you to increase your household four paws at a time. As someone who lives with a rescued cat (I am so lucky he adopted me!), I know the power of the paws, and I recommend reading this book and adopting furrever friends to everyone.

Galleys for Rescued were provided by Penguin Group TarcherPerigree through NetGalley.com, with many thanks.

I was only able to read an excerpt, but what I could read was heartwarming. The author, Peter Zheutlin, easily weaves in stories from his own life with the lives of others, while focusing on the heart of the story, the rescue dogs.
The story does not shy away from the hardships the dogs endure, but it also shows how rescue dogs can change how humans deal with their own hardships (i.e., empty nest syndrome).
I look forward to being able to read the entire book.

A delightful book about the challenges and rewards of adopting a shelter dog and the lessons you can learn from owning a dog, in general. I found myself smiling, laughing and tearing up at Zheutlin's stories about his own experience as a dog dad.
