Very formulaic and kind of old-fashioned 80's noir (think Remington Steele, Moonlighting crime capers BUT without the he/her romantic tension-snappy dialogue-chemistry; this is a done-deal that Scarlet and Gabe are rekindling their romance). The writing and storyline isn't anything deep. I appreciated the work the author did into art as I have always been fascinated by some of the legendary art heists.
3.5 starts.
Very catchy and intriguing beginning. Then I felt like I was in the middle of a game of clue wondering who done it while I was hiding out in the library. A good twist keeps the book interesting while there are intermissions for lots of "catching up" between Gabe and Scarlett.
Interesting mystery taking a big turn on the murder plot and enjoyed the ending.
Male escorts in Miami are being killed. Gabe Ferreira is a cop who has gone undercover as an escort to find the killer. He just never expected his old flame to hire him. Scarlett Bishop was his high school sweetheart but he broke up with her before he went to the police academy. He'd watched his cop father go through several failed marriages because of the stress & drama of his undercover career & wasn't about to do that to Scarlett.
Scarlett has become an art gallery owner specializing in contemporary art. She is in Miami to attend a huge art showing but has forgotten one thing. Due to catching her boyfriend cheating on her & breaking up, she doesn't have a date for the events & her rival is sure to make a point of rubbing her nose in it. Her assistant, Violet convinces her to hire an escort. Scarlett can't believe it's her high school love. He was planning on becoming a cop so why is he working as a cop?
The main premise is male escorts being killed which is a refreshing change. It seems like everyone is writing about females as the victims so I was pulled into the story right away. I love that the writer took the time to set up the history & back story but didn't have it drag on for too long. The attraction between Scarlett & Gabe was still there & the sexual tension was hot & intense. Scarlett's character was that of a strong woman just beginning to regain her confidence after being put down by her mentor. Her growth made a good side point to the story. The plot twist was not apparent from the beginning but rather came on slowly after the book was over halfway. If you enjoy sexy, romantic suspense with some hot sexy scenes, you'll love this one.
The storyline is a unique one that's for sure. Male escorts being murdered. Normally it would be women, so I liked that this took a different turn. The fact that Scarlett and Gabe were childhood sweethearts once, just made it even better.
What a good romantic suspense. Enjoyed it. Overall the writing was excellent.
