A very useful and systematic journey through the most important stages of creating a successful novel. It appeals both to writers and book reviewers, with a lot of noteworthy directions and advice about bringing your writing craftmanship to a more professional level.
A great tool for new and aspiring writers though I did feel that this was better suited for the novice writer.
In an effort to return to writing, I completed this book. I'm not a beginner, but this book helped me compartmentalize the preparation and writing process. I will say that I'm "writing advice fatigued," but believe this is a great resource for all authors, especially new ones to use in their preparation. This will definitely be on my "go-to" shelf.
I enjoy reading books about writing because though I have written a few books, I feel like I always want to keep learning the craft. That’s the beauty of writing, you can always find something new to apply to your work. In the top books, Take Your Novel To The Next Level, Marjorie Reynolds and Bring Your Fiction to Life by Karen Wiesner the reader is shown new skills to really power up writing.
In Bring Your Fiction To Life, you learn how to:
Master the three-dimensional aspects of characters, plots, and settings using detailed sketches that define the past, present, and future aspects of each element.
Develop complex opening, resolution, and bridge scenes that expertly lead readers through your fictional world.
Construct and analyze an outline for your manuscript, using tools and techniques to analyze scenes that lack dimensionality.
Brainstorm, research, and draft efficiently and effectively, and juggle multiple projects with ease.
In Take Your Novel To The Next Level, Marjorie shows us how to engage the senses while writing, placing the reader in a very believable and also keeping in mind subtext, dialogue, and so much more.
Every single book about writing imparts new wisdom and even if you are a seasoned novelist, you can get some gems from reading these two books.
