This book is what it says it is, and it does it well. Its random, such as details about blue whales, growing two inches in outer space and that cats and jelly fish DNA have been crossed to create glowing cats. Its bizarre, fun, distracting and charming. This is highly recommended to anyone who can read and might like something fun. The illustrations are as irreverent and endearing as the facts.
I am such a sucker for useless knowledge. The more random, the better. It would not take much to convince me to read a book about useless knowledge, truth be told, so I was going to read this no matter the format.
But the fact that Mike Lowery has, for most of his life, done some form of drawing every day, and then slowly it evolved into illustrating a random bit of knowledge every day? I would like many more books like this, please and thank you.
There's nothing overly fancy or stylized about these facts. The drawings are simple and clever and sometimes truly hilarious. The information is actually REALLY interesting. There's an entire page devoted to rabbits, which, hi, what a way to cheat and win me over. Plus the Napoleon thing.
This book was made for people like me, who live for completely useless information you can use as a party trick. I love it.
There are so many random illustrated facts...... It was so interesting to read each one of them.
This is a fun book for browsing, but I don't think it would circulate.
I want to thank NetGalley and Workman Publishing Company for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate this opportunity.

Synopsis: Random Illustrated Facts is an illustrated book that has tidbits of random of information to go along with each illustration. The book has different categories such as; different animals, history and everyday things. It even has information on a glow in the dark cat!
Review: I give this book 5 out of 5 random stars! I read this book with my children and they thought it was a hoot! It was very fun to learn random things and see them laugh about it. I think this book is great if you love trivia and random tidbits. This was a quick read but a fullfilling one!
An quirky book about a bunch of illustrated random facts, as the title says. The facts were interesting and I was constantly reading them out loud to my coworker. (I'm a library technician in a high school library.) We were both very amused by a few of them in particular. Like, "There is a cheese in Sardinia that contains live maggots." Gross! The only shortfalls to this book is that the hand illustrated font was hard to read at times and, being a librarian, I wish there was at least a mention of the sources to these facts. Other than that it's a great coffee table book.
Adorable, sweet art work and a great variety of trivia facts make this book one that I can definitely see gifting people for Christmas and keeping in our guest room. A great book to pick up and peruse!
Just what it sounds like, a compendium of random facts about history, animals, food, science, and every day things presented like in an illustrated journal.
So I was just going to start this tonight and finish it slowly. Yeah, that didn’t happen as planned. I devoured all 200+ pages in one sitting. Granted, it is a quick read with all the illustrations. Mostly, though, I couldn’t put it down because it was fascinating. There are some very weird, wonderful, horrifying, hilarious, and gag reflex inducing facts out there. Some of these I knew before. Others I never even knew to ask about. I would've given this five stars if it had included a bibliography, but given the author's note about how he put this together, I also understand how much more work that would have required. If you’re the kind of person who watches Jeopardy to find some kind of justifying outlet for all the random stuff you know, you’ll probably need this book. If you’re an insatiable sponge for random facts, you probably were sold at just the title. Oh, and if you’re looking for a gift for someone you have absolute no idea how to shop for, they should probably find something in here interesting. I definitely have to find a copy of this for our middle school and high school library. Teens loving knowing these weird little facts, and it’s a good time filler book (and there’s no objectionable content).
No content issues. (Though there is some gross factor stuff…but nothing over the top.)
An interesting book of really random facts. I guess I was wishing for a bit more info. I enjoy Mike Lowery's illustrations.
A colorful and playful book of illustrated factoids. Very much what is described on the tin. I've read quite a few factoid books over the years and this one had a few facts that were new to me, which is a rarity. Well done!
This was so much fun to read. I loved sharing some of these facts with my husband and friends while/after reading them and the pictures make learning it all so much more fun and easy. I think that everyone would get a kick out of this book for some reason or another.
It has different sections - History, Animals, Food, Everyday things, and Science, each were equally fun. I think the Animals section was my favorite. And I think the Food section was my least favorite - there are some facts that you just don't need to know - I may never eat jelly beans again (sad face).
It was a lot of laughs and I think even as a gift or just a coffee table book this is a great book to have.
Cute book. This would be a great option for kids to read when they are interested in weird but true books.
Everyone loves random facts and cool doodles. This book has both these things. It is a wonderful collection of random about a range of topics with totally amazing drawings framing them.
Random illustrated facts. A Collection of Curious, Weird, and Totally Not Boring Things to Know is exatly "what you see is what you get", that is a random mix of trivia and curiosities illustrated.
The book geos from animals trivia to cooking ones, general culture and entartainment.
It's a nice book, with good illustration, perfect in my opinion for a nice, light headed present.
Thanks to the publisher for providing me the copy necessary to write this review.
Simply put this is just a fun, enjoyable book. Full of awesome illustrations and interesting, often funny, facts. I learned a lot and in such a fun way. I'm always drawn to books like this and this one was definitely a great read. Quick and quirky, it's the perfect book to read in one sitting with a cup of coffee.
Random Illustrated Facts is one of those rare fact books that actually shares facts that you don't already know. Add in the engaging illustrations and it's a winner :).
Very interesting book. I didn't know a lot of these facts, and the illustrations kept things from getting dull. School was unbearably dull, so I guess true facts are supposed to be? This wasn't.
I loved this book! I like reading interesting facts, and I read them quite often, but in "Random illustrated facts" there were just a few I already knew. All of the facts were quite interesting, and hilarious! The illustrations were so funny and cute, and complemented the facts perfectly. Some of my favorites were: the very first one - the pekingese as a last line of defense, the Saddam Hussein novel, all facts about animals, the Alaskan ice-cream and the the facts about mushrooms and jellyfish (weird!). Mike Lowery has a great sense of humor, and I'll definitely follow him anywhere on the internet, since these doodles are amazing!
I would classify this as a Bathroom book. Interesting to check out a few pages but not to sit and read cover to cover. Each page has a fact which is illustrated in a cute, often random way... aaannd that's about it. Pretty much does what it says on the tin. The illustrations are nice and simple but not overly interesting.
