Cute in a way that I wouldn't spend actual money on this, but might recommend someone get it from the library. Might be a good birthday present for a kid you don't know too well.
This is a fun and interesting book. I think it would be better for a younger child than an adult. I would have liked if there were some citations on each page or in the back of the book, or any links for further reading on certain parts. The big problem with books like this is that if you read something you think you've seen debunked other places, you want to know where they got the information so you can compare and determine which is more accurate, but that's impossible without citations or references.
I did have some minor difficulty reading some pages because the format of the text was a bit strange, but it only took a few seconds to figure out.
The artwork was great and really added another dimension to this book, and a few pictures did make me laugh. Overall, if I had a middle-grade or young teen child/relative/friend I would very likely give them this book or recommend it to them. For older friends/family members I think it could make a fun coffee table book as well.
I do not know why I love random facts so much but this book was perfect for me. I love novels but seeing an artists interpretation can be so much better. I enjoyed every moment that I devoured this book and will go back to read more. Having already shared it with a friend, I would definitely recommend it!
I really liked this book! I love to know facts and this one is such an interesting read!
At first, it was a bit difficult to understand the doodles, since I'm not used to it, but I got used to it in no time and there's a bunch of interesting facts in here, some that I already knew but a lot that I have never heard of!
Some examples are:
About Ben Franklins first US coin; the origin of the word prodigy; there's a bunch of animal facts that are really interesting like, polar bears, cockroaches, rabbits, frogs, etc; some very weird facts about food; and so on.
Some of the facts in this books really leave you open mouthed!
It's really well done, both the way the facts are organized and of course the doodles, that were really great and easy to understand. Sometimes even funny and unexpectedly detailed!
I only wished some parts had a bit of extra information...
I really liked this book, and I will much probably buy it because I am sure this is a book I would like to open and read once in a while!
I definitely recommend it if you enjoy some weird and interesting facts!
I really enjoyed this comic. I liked the illustrations, they’re colorful and full of detail, and no two pages were organized the same way, there was no pattern to them. The random facts are so interesting too! I was so inspired to read up on things. Did you know that ancient Chinese emperors used to hide Pekingese dogs in their sleeves as a last line of defense? That sounds so unbelievable! That is the first fact in this collection, and it sets the tone for the rest, they were all equally entertaining. This book is fun, I think everyone can enjoy it.
I do love books like this, I loved the layout and the mixture of fun and quirky facts. Definatley one I'd very highly recommend, its fun and you learn - what more could you want - 5 stars!
Fun graphic novel full of fun, sometimes useless facts (Which are always the best). The illustrations were enjoyable, funny, and tied the whole thing together really well. I knew some of the facts, but not all. I always love books like this.
This book was so cute but also very informative. I love books that have facts in them and have read many different books similar to this with random facts. A great part of this book is the illustrations. I know that this author is popular for his illustrated children's books and I can see why from this. His illustrations are often quite funny in this book and are a great addition to the facts within the book. Also just so interesting and weird. Many I had heard before but then there were many that I had never seen before. I think this book a neat little book that may interest many people. I enjoyed my reading of it and am glad that I got the chance to read it.
This book would make a great gift for all ages. It has lots of fun and weird facts which you could probably find elsewhere, but only in this book do they come with cute doodles and illustrations. I would have liked more information about sources for the facts, but I can always Google them.
I absolutely adored this. The illustrations complimented the strange facts and had me looking up stuff and reading more about them.
Informative and entertaining.
I received a copy for review from Net Galley. The following opinions are my own.
This a book full of illustrated random facts that was born from the Author's daily sketchbooks. The art is cute and the facts are a lot of fun. Some of these I already knew, but most I didn't! There is a wide variety of subjects. Just a lot of fun.
For parents- I found nothing inappropriate. In fact I would recommend this for the entire family as well as adults.
This book is just so darn fun to read. Random facts are fun. Illustrations are fun. Together, they are so much fun! Seriously, this is a picture book for adults, a great conversation starter, and an excellent way to pass time. My life is richer for knowing that Saddam Hussein published a romance novel, and the root of the word "prodigy." It is also richer for having seen Mike Lowery's sketches and illustrations to go with.
Great for people who love random facts and @cracked photo contests. For more random facts from Mike: http://randomillustratedfacts.tumblr.com
This is a great book full of very fascinating facts! They are grouped into different categories so you can dip in and out as you wish. I imagine this would be an ideal book for pre-teens who would enjoy sharing and wowing others with their newly learned facts! Mike Lowery's illustrations are brill, and thanks to the introduction I learned about how he often doodles and decided to put these to use and turn them into a book, and that made the book that little bit more endearing.
I love the random facts. There were some that I had to look up to check were actually true, but they were and they were really cool! The illustrations were pretty good as well, I liked them, especially the cats.
My major complaint with this book is that the pages are too busy. When there are four facts per page and the writing is in different fonts and sizes, it became very difficult to read the individual facts and it became more of a blur of information that I had to decode. It's good for children because it keeps their attention, but not very good at passing along the information.
I love random facts. While I knew some of the ones included in theses pages, others made my jaw drop. And I mean that literally. These are facts you'll want to share with friends, family, and even strangers who are around you when you read!
I've always been a guy who loves random useful and useless facts, and comics. This book combines both into a super fun, and informative read. I'd highly recommend this book for anyone great for just picking up and enjoying. Also, a dynamite gift idea for anyone who loves comics and random, fun facts!
This is a wonderful collection of weird/fun facts. I love Mike Lowery's drawings and paired with fun facts this is a book that will certainly make it onto my bookshelf.
This was a fun book to browse through and to read the sections together as well. I even learned a couple of things!
This is a fantastic book! It's got the allure of the books you tend to see at Urban Outfitters or in the front of the bookstore, but it's interesting and well written enough to hold your interest past a simple flip-through. As an art educator, I can imagine adopting it as a project for students to illustrate their own facts in a sketchbook/etc.
