I really enjoyed this book, much more so than the last one. Was any of it believable (I mean, how many menage couples can you have in one team)? Absolutely not, but it was still hot. However, this book actually had a pretty good story line with some depth to the characters. I almost think you need to read Book 1 first to get the background that was referenced an awful lot in this book though. I didn't read Book 1, so when what happened in that one kept coming up, I was a bit lost as to the significance of some parts until they were explained later. But it's not necessary and this can be read as a standalone.
I remembered Tom & Danny from the last book - they certainly weren't my favorite characters then because of that crazy party at their apartment that hurt Jane/Sam/King. But they grew on me in this book, especially Tom. We also met Carmina previously. She suffered a traumatic brain injury after an IED exploded in Afghanistan. Her and Sam were the only ones who survived. She's been making a lot of progress over the last couple of years though and can now talk pretty well compared to the difficulties she had communicating before. I loved that Tom and Danny didn't care about her disability and was there for her regardless.
Tom is openly bisexual and is definitely a player. He's never lacking for company, but he's had a crush on Carmina for a while and she continues to ignore him. Tom is Danny's roommate and lately he's begun developing feelings for Danny. But of course Danny is straight and wants nothing to do with what Tom is offering. Carmina is ready to step out into the dating world again, or at least wants to get laid, so she shows up at Tom's party one night. She hasn't been able to have an orgasm in the last 3 years since her injury, so she's desperate now. She decides to let Tom be the guy to help her overcome that issue. Eventually, Carmina ends up with Danny and then goes back to Tom. Eventually they all three get together, but it's not until the end of the book when that happens really.
Tom was incredibly sweet to Carmina, quite to my surprise. He turned out to be such a softy underneath that playboy status, not just to Carmina, but also to Danny and those that he cared about. I loved everything about Tom, especially when his bossy side came out in bed.
Danny took a while to grow on me. He definitely had his hangups and it was holding him back from a relationship. When he did finally get over it, it was all kind of rushed and happened suddenly it seemed. I didn't buy it...but it paved the way for him to be with Tom & Carmina.
Carmina turned out to be quite a player too in this one lol - well, with only two guys and only in the beginning of the book. I really didn't think she had it in her, so she surprised me when she came out of that shy shell. I was really happy for her though because you could see how much she struggled with any sort of interactions with people in the last book.
The ending was left wide open, which was disappointing since we didn't see how they were perceived in public or by their peers. It just sort of ended with them deciding to give things a go as a couple and I feel like we didn't get any closure or a finale to their story, not like the last book. That's my only real complaint, otherwise, this is a steamy, albeit unrealistic, read.
Another hot Rebels threesome. This problem characters are good for each other.
I received a ARC from netgalley for a honest review.
I'm sorry, but this one just isn't for me. DNF at 55%. Also, when Danny and Tom get together for the first time was really weird, honestly I'm not even sure that was consensual.
Another 10 star - touchdown pass - for Samantha Kane! The Rebels are in it to win it! ~ Heather, White Hot Reads
Samantha Kane is one of my go to authors. Once I found the Rebels I was hooked. I can't even describe the love I have for her prose and characters. From Broken Play to now, I'm in sexy, sassy, football heaven! I'm a Southern girl at heart. Born and raised in Texas where football is King... and I don't mean King Ulupoka.
The Rebels are the kind of team that I'm totally captivated by, both on and off the field. From the very beginning they've had to work their sexy backsides, nearly off, to develop a rapport. They needed to learn to trust each other. This started in Broken Play and has been an underlying theme throughout the rest of the series, to date. And it's perfect. It's all about team work.
Now, let's dive between the sheets. There is no shortage of steam coming from this bed. Tom, Danny and Carmina are HOT, HOT, HOT! (See what I did there?) As with anyone they each have their own demons that they are fighting, but together, they help each other overcome.
"You couldn't have room for love when bitterness filled your heart." <---- Talk about poignant. This totally struck a cord with me. As humans love is a basic necessity for us. Until we step away from whatever is filling our body, minds and souls with bitterness and negativity, there is no room for love. And this is my reminder to let it all go.
I think it's imperative for us to take away something from every experience we have, and books are experiences also. This will be mine. From the flames blazing out of the sheets and the last second touch down passes, the Rebels continue to teach me lessons of life and love! #TeamRebels
Tom no longer questions who he is interested in. He is tired of one night stands and pushing the boundaries of fantasies that have long run rampant in his head. Carmina is still struggling with who she is and just wants to be normal after being wounded while serving her country. She does not let her injury define her and wants to reclaim the life she once had. She slowly begins to spread her wings with Tom but her attention never wanders far from Danny, Tom's best friend and teammate. Danny constantly denies how he feels and struggles with how he can truly be happy. The three of them together complete the other as part of themselves was missing. It takes each one of them conquering their fears to truly come together.
This book is officially my favourite in the series. It combined plots from all previous storylines, yet still managed to create a standalone story concentrating on the three main characters.
This series is a perfect choice for all fans of some good old bookish kinkiness. Even if you are not crazy about ménage, you’ll find yourself rooting for Tom, Danny and Carmina, as right from the start they seem perfect for each other. Each of them has got a past they need to deal with, and desires, which they never knew existed before they met each other. Their friendship quickly evolves into something more, even if not all three of them are ready to face it.
Real issues are experienced by the characters in this book. Carmina has worked for 3 years to improve the ability to communicate after a traumatic brain injury received in Afghanistan. Danny is still dealing with anger from the near rape of a friend years ago. Tom is Tom, cute and friendly.
Very well-written. I think I've lost my ability to believe that a football team has this many people living this lifestyle. Not gonna happen.
I was a bit on the fence with this series when i read the first book but I have to say that i have enjoyed all of the subsequent romances greatly. I think the writer has really found her stride and i can't wait to read more!
Wow! This book was a lot to handle. There were definitely some great moments in this book that stick out to me that made this book enjoyable. There was, however, some moments where things seemed to drag or have no meaning. Despite that, this book proved to be entertaining and fresh.
Carmina is best friends with Sam, a professional football player with whom she served in the Army when their vehicle was hit with an IED, leaving Carmina with a traumatic brain injury. She moves to Birmingham to be near her best friend as she deals with PTSD and relearning to speak. Through her friendship with Sam, Carmina and her service dog, Buster, get to know several of the football players, including Tom and Danny. As Carmina works on rebuilding her life, she determines to regain her sexuality and hopefully reach fulfillment after three and one half years of drought. Tom and Carmina begin a relationship, but she has a secret fantasy about both men.
This is a departure from my typical sub genre and I received an uncorrected proof copy in exchange for my review. I saw “sports” and “war veteran” which are two of my favorites and requested the book without reading the description. So I was a bit surprised. First of all, because this “uncorrected” copy looked perfect as I read, and I find mistakes 99% of the time without even looking for them. And second, because there was tons more going on with the characters’ physical relationship than I had anticipated. That said, if this is the type of book you like, you’ll love reading Carmina, Tom and Danny’s story. I also appreciate the fact the author sheds some light on the difficulties some of the men and women who have so selflessly served our country deal with when they return home. The characters were authentic, the storyline was great, and the love was beautiful, genuine and unconditional. Isn’t that the kind of love to which we all aspire?
Two football players and an army vet. Carmina has traumatic brain injury from a IED in Afghanistan. She has trouble speaking and some words taking longer to get out. She hasn't had an orgasm in three years. Her best friend Sam is in a relationship with a guy and a girl. She doesn't want a relationship just sex.
Tom is a farm boy who plays football and is also bi. He has a crush on Carmina since he meet her. He also wants Danny, his roommate, colleague and best friend. Danny is a big guy who thinks he is only interested in women. He is attracted to Carmina too but has too much baggage.
Tom convinces them both to give this relationship a try. This story will set your ereader on fire, have you laughing and wanting to cry. Great story. Awesome characters.
Misconduct, #4 in the Birmingham Rebel series, has all the passion and excitement that I’ve come to love in this series. There’s a healthy balance of romance and plot, and there’s lots of action on and off the field. Tom’s ready for some full touch contact with Danny and Carmina. Danny, hesitant about his feelings, causes a little delay of game. And Carmina, determined to feel like a desirable woman again, is hoping she won’t make an incomplete pass. What you get is another score by author Samantha Kane.
Tom Kelly has a wild man reputation on and off the field. He’s pretty carefree about his sexual lifestyle and has tried it all. But he’s tired of the sexual merry go round he’s been on and wants something more, like so many of his teammates have. Especially if it involves sexy Carmina de la Cruz and his best friend Danny Smith.
Danny Smith has been known to be as kinky as the rest of the team. He’s Tom’s roommate but they’re best friends too. Tom’s seen him at his worst and knows his deepest secrets. Danny knows Tom is attracted to him but he gave into that kind of temptation once and has no plans to go there again. He’s confused and guilty over what he did and enjoyed. Danny has been attracted to Carmina since the day he met her. But Danny is dealing with a lot of anger and bitterness resulting from his past. He’s not ready to take on a relationship and someone else’s baggage when he has enough of his own.
Carmina de la Cruz is an Army veteran suffering from traumatic brain injury sustained during her last tour in Afghanistan. She’s avoided going out and being around people. What guy would want a girl who couldn’t manage a simple sentence without breaking out in a sweat? But she’s tired of the “dry spell” she’s been on for the last 3 years. She’s ready to face her fears and make some changes. When she does think about ending that dry spell, she imagines doing so with Tom Kelly and Danny Smith. Tom seemed so natural when it came to sex. Not awkward at all. And she was the queen of awkward. She’d noticed Danny looking at her with an intensity that unnerved her, but she wasn’t sure if those looks were always directed at her or at Tom. And that thought turned her on. She’d be the luckiest girl ever to have one of these guys. What was she doing thinking of two? It was all so complicated. How could she and Tom work if Tom wanted Danny? And how could they work if she wanted Danny too?
A perfect addition to the Birmingham Rebels series. One thing I love about this series is that I get each character’s individual story before I watch them make that journey together to discover that they are just what the other’s need. Carmina was tired of being treated like she was fragile or an invalid. She needed to know how strong she was and she needed someone else to see it. Danny had a hard time accepting his feelings and attraction. It was easier to live in denial than to accept what he wanted. Plus, he was carrying so much anger. He needed to let go of his anger and embrace who he was. Tom was perfect for them both. With Tom, Carmina didn’t have to think through everything she said or did. She could just trust in Tom and give up control. It was like that for Danny too. He’d never felt as vulnerable as he did with Tom and Carmina, but he found a freedom in it he’d never experienced before. Together they learned to trust and let each other in. When love filled their hearts, there was no room for worry and bitterness. I can’t wait to see whose story is next in this series. There are so many possibilities. This was a little slow but it developed the relationship between the characters.
I can safely say that I'm a Rebels fan...
Carmina was the hook for me in this book. It's not always easy to pull off a story with a wounded female veteran character, but Samantha Kane does it here, and does it well. This is the forth installment of the Birmingham bi-sexual football team. Tom, Carmina and Danny find a way to work through a lot of baggage and end up in the best relationship of their lives.
If M/M/F is your thing ... READ THIS BOOK!
What happens when you are attracted to one man that makes you feel cherished and another that makes you crazy with lust. Carmina has to choose between Tom and Danny, but is a twist like no other the three come together and Carmina gets the best of both worlds while Danny and Tom figure out that they too have a connection. This story, while surrounding football playoffs, brings the reader far away from the game and lands them directly into the chemistry between the three characters. The overriding issues of the threesome and the men coming out at both bisexual are treated with grace and honesty making this a book worth reading.
Misconduct: Birmingham Rebels is book four in the Birmingham Rebels series by Samantha Kane. First, I want to say that I’ve loved this series from the start. I have gotten attached to this crazy football team and their sexual escapades. I’m so glad that Danny, Tom, and Carmina got their chance for their own story.
We met Danny in the first book. He is Coach Marion’s best friend and is carrying some pretty deep scars on the inside from something that happened to both of them years before they ever came to Birmingham. Now, he is Tom’s roommate and they are also best friends. He knows Tom is interested in more than just friendship but he’s not going there. He let down his guard once and never again. And then there is the way he feels about Carmina. Carmina has her own issues, she doesn’t need someone like him who is dealing with all kinds of baggage. So he keeps his feelings to himself.
Carmina de la Cruz has been home from Afghanistan for a long time. She moved to Birmingham to be near her closest friend, Sam who is also a member of the Birmingham Rebels. He was also with her when everything went bad in Afghanistan. She has physically healed from the explosion that they drove over, but her head is still messed up. She has trouble with her words, and she gets overwhelmed easily. But Carmina is ready to live a normal life, get a job, be with a man, or two. She can’t help but to notice Tom and all his country boy charm. But so has every other woman, and man for that matter, since Tom doesn’t turn down an offer from either sex. And then there is Danny. He is completely the opposite of Tom, all serious and brooding. But there is a chemistry there, and she has caught him watching her. Is she really attracted to them both?
Ever since Tom finally realized he liked being with both men and women, he has been going crazy. But he knows this isn’t really what he wants. He wants a committed relationship. He has fallen hard for his roommate, Danny. But he keeps it to himself. And he is also strongly attracted to the sexy Carmina. He’s caught Danny looking at her as well.
Both Danny and Carmina are dealing with serious issues. Who would have ever thought that Tom was the one who could help them. The Tom I first met in the first book is so different than this Tom. He’s all grown up. He genuinely cares for Carmina and wants to help her. And his feelings for Danny are deep. He somehow just knows how to help these two. It’s like he’s their missing puzzle piece. And wow did he ever find his inner Dom!
The Rebels are playing their best season ever. But the game against Las Vegas is the last game of the regular season. And a member of that team, a person that has a history with Danny and Marion, has the potential to ruin everything. Can Danny let go of his anger and just play football? Or will he choose to exact his revenge?
First, this book is crazy hot as all the books in this series are. But it’s so much more than that. It’s about letting go, allowing yourself to live, and love. Both Danny and Carmina have guilt and anger they have to let go of in order to move on. And it seems Tom knows just how to help them do that. I’m not sure how many books are going to be in this series but I hope Samantha Kane keeps going. It’s so much fun and I’ve come to love this crazy bunch. So turn down the A/C, ladies, and come and meet the Birmingham Rebels. There is enough testosterone here to fuel your fantasies for a long, long time.
I was planning on giving this 4 stars but when I went to review it on Goodreads I couldn't stop myself from giving it 5. I think that is the sign of a really good book.
The characters in this book were so heartwarming, charming, and well developed. I really enjoyed the romance in this story. It was so cute and very real. I can't wait to see how the relationships in the previous stories came about. One of my favorite things to read about, especially in romance stories, is one of the characters coming to terms with who they are, what they like, and realizing that it is okay. Kane did such a good job in this book that it is easily one of the best ones I've read.
I highly recommend this book but keep in mind that it is not for the light hearted and definitely not for anyone under 18.
It was an okay read. I didn't enjoy it as much as I did a previous book in this series.
